Once Rikki had a goal in mind, he set to it. It was a little awkward to swim at first, what with the egg and all his clothes and chains, but he was determined. He set his sights on the glow and swam.

The music is still playing, but now everyone can hear the song. The shrill scream has stopped, and everyone can move again. That means the mermaids too- and they are not happy!

Quote:

Rikki can continue swimming. If he rolls more than 10, he takes 5 damage from an attacking mermaid, and the mermaids restrain him for a moment. (IE, if you are at 20 and you roll a 15, you take 5 damage and remain at 20)

Everyone else is now fighting off an onslaught of mermaids!

There mermaids have 10 HP and do 1 auto dmg.
However, if you miss, you are “captured” by the mermaids, and someone has to rescue you by killing your mermaid.

EX: Bob attacks a mermaid and knocks it down to 8 hp, but then misses. He is now “captured,” so Suzy will have to kill the remaining 8 hp on that mermaid. If she misses while killing Bob’s mermaid, she too is capture. If there is only one person remaining, they are INSPIRED BY THE SACRIFICE OF THEIR FRIENDS and cannot be captured.

It made sense that the keys would stop fighting once the door had been opened. West didn't know why, it just did. What didn't make any sense at all was why one of the jackdamned things would remain mobile and, as far as he could tell, a hundred percent devoted to him. More than devoted. Obsessed. Infatuated. Consumed by. It must have been broken. He would show it the proper meaning of the word.

West swatted at the fluttery bit of metal, he even managed to hit it hard enough to knock it to the floor, but it recovered every time, buzzing away at his side no matter how much he tried to intimidate it. Eventually, he just left it alone, clenching his fists as he followed the group down the stone stairs.

When Rikki leaped into the water after the flame demon he couldn't exactly fault him, but that didn't stop West from directing a litany of curses at the reaper's back as he went, at least until his jaw seized up like the rest of him had. His new best friend froze as well, dropping near his feet with a ringing clatter. A frustrating minute or three passed during which all West could do was watch as the other boil made his way across the lake, but then the shrieking was replaced by singing and the calm, empty air was filled with angry mermaids.

West swung his fist low, catching both mermaid and key in his strike. The key immediately buzzed back to life. The mermaid did not.

The sound had stopped, and now Shun could move once more. Shaking his head and snapping out of his paralyzed state, he set Taima's pin aside, then called out his daggers. One of the mermaids launched herself at him. His blade caught her in mid air, knocking her back and away from him. It wasn't enough to kill her, but it was still a fairly sound strike.

The terrible sound did not make matters any better. While it paralyzed him, it was hard to really notice because Andrew had already taken residence with the wall. Was it getting crowded in here? It was really crowded with the bird and the yelling and the cursing. Wait some of that was from him. He couldn't even enjoy West's new friend in the chaos.


The sound finally stopped but that was when the mermaids attacked. One Came across the walkway and after him tearing at his leg. "Stay away from me!" Andrew kicked the mermaid after him and punted it across the room. No way in hell was he getting hauled into the water. Not even happening.

It might have been still alive, but it was certainly dazed at least for a moment.

The sudden inability to move was disconcerting, and Taima felt fortunate that she hadn't been in midair when the paralyzing sensation took effect. Still, she was relieved once she could move again. The shrill screeching had turned into a rather pleasant song, but there was no time to stop and listen to it. The mermaids, previously just a tasty annoyance, were now a tasty annoyance-and-a-half with the way they flailed around. That was okay. Taima liked playing with her food. She snapped at a flopping mermaid tail, gratified when her prey tried to fight back.

He'd been doing really great up until the mermaids regained some vigor. Just as he thought he was going to make it to the light, something grabbed his ankle and pulled him back roughly.

He struggled against the mermaid's grip, but he couldn't get out of it.

He kicked at the mermaid with his free foot, and she hissed and let go. Before she could grab him again, he turned and swam away. Paying attention and avoiding more mermaids slowed him down though.

The more he swam, the further away the light seemed. He was determined, though.

He should have known he'd gone too far without being bothered. A mermaid swam out in front of him, pushing him back and preventing him from moving forward. It hissed angrily when he swiped at it.

He swept his arm out, trying to brush the mermaid away, but it wouldn't move. IT swiped back at him viciously, baring it's pointed teeth.

He turned at kicked at the mermaid, at it swam away in a rush. There was a clear shot at the light, now, he just had to swim quickly.

He got to it without any more issues from the mermaids, thankfully.

On the other side of the lake was a pedestal, much like the one Shun had encountered earlier. However, this time there were no flames and no crazy ghost ladies, just the bowl-shaped indentation covered in golden runes. The same markings began to illuminate themselves in the air around the golden egg.

Regardless of reaction, something fishy was going on.

The mermaids were growing angrier and angrier. All remaining mermaids had fused together. They had now formed ... AN ULTRA-MERMAID.

It stands well over the entirety of the lake, and brings down one of its ultra fists to smash and smoosh Andrew. This thing MEANS BUSINESS.

Rikki approached the pedestal cautiously, because it was sitting there too peacefully not to be dangerous. As the runes began to glow around the egg he held it out as far as his arms would stretch and frowned at it.

What the jack.

He eyed the indentation in the pedestal, and the matching runes, and then unceremoniously dumped the egg into the dent. Clearly that's where it was meant to sit.

He turned around just as the mega-mermaid was formed, and was too busy gaping at it to do much of anything.

Shun wasn't sure what to expect out of this place. When the mermaids fused into something bigger and badder, he just furrowed his brow. It just seemed strange. A big threat, but strange nonetheless. With a shake of his head, he moved on over towards it as it lashed out at Andrew. Finding a spot to strike, he went on to strike it with his blades.
