For some reason, not thinking about how tired he was made him much less tired. Which was a good thing, but of course Whistle didn't notice the effect he'd had, now. He was too busy worrying about his brother's performance event now, which he'd been put in charge of. Well, he hadn't really been - he was directing the performance itself. Everyone else was also in charge, he had to admit. Just, you know, they were in charge of other things.

He didn't know why it was so concerning to him - he just, you know, wanted people to appreciate the tales they told their own foals. They were the good kind of story, too! And they often carried beautiful messages, and taught important lessons. A kin who centered their life around such childhood tales might, well, grow up a little idealistic, maybe - but they'd be a kin with their heart in the right place. That was what really mattered. That's what other kin had to be able to see.

Whistle spotted a strange little rock shaped like an owlcat on his way around the next curve, and didn't bother to hide the smile blossoming across his face. If he'd had the time, he'd double back to pick it up so that he could show it to a foal, but - well, it was an endurance course, and he wasn't supposed to stop. Maybe he if he retraced his path, later...

No, the path was too convoluted to be retraced. Maybe if he remembered it by landmark instead? But already he was so far past where he'd spotted it; he really had no time to figure out exactly what had been around. It had been...a rocky area.

Caught by his dilemma, his walking pace slowed slightly. Perhaps if he asked a Tidewalker to locate the stone for him when it was over...no, that might be too much of a bother, and silly besides. He could find another stone elsewhere!

Perhaps, though, he could find one of a more optimal shape - a cuter one. A lamb, perhaps? Those certainly were popular around the Mothers' Club! Or an egg might be easier - but egg-shaped stones were so common.
Perhaps if they painted the "eggs" they'd be popular among foals. He'd have to bring this up.

Tidewalkers and beach, that was, for he'd finally emerged onto the sand. Oh - running on this terrain was like running on the mud of the swamp. Whistle could not say he was fond of it at all.

He managed to work out a pace that, if not ideal, was at least better than the one he'd started the terrain using. This was perhaps the most difficult portion of the endurance test, Whistle thought: that it involved so much thinking. Though, he allowed, it did do what it claimed to. His endurance certainly felt tested, at this point.

He jogged onwards, hoping he'd at least outpace someone. He actually felt as though he wasn't doing too shabbily: it was simply dragging on. There weren't many kin around, but he had to remind himself that the test also rewarded kin who knew their own strengths, and thus chose appropriate stopping points.
