Once the next day had rolled around, Shun showed up to the tent, feeling reluctant as always. The moment he overheard that they were to report to the courtyard, he went on his way to head in that direction. He wasn't really sure what to make of this assessment thing the trainee spoke of.
He arrived and waited while the voice spoke out, crossing his arms as he listened. He didn't have a very good feeling about all of this. Not in a sense of danger but...
The young man shook his head and stared as the volunteer lady stepped up to explain their first bit. And sure enough, his bad feelings came into fruition. He had to...partner up with someone.
He had to dance.
Rather than running off to seek a partner to begin doing just that, he continued to stand there with folded arms, staring up at the podium.

Shakuntala raised her eyes to the figures upon the podium. The talk of partnering up and dancing with others sent a small flutter of whispers to the bodies left and right to her. Unfortunately, she wasn't too keen about the idea. She shirked back into the underbrush of people and remained in their shadow until the procession began. The seventeen year old wasn't against the festivities, but her only experience with dancing was standing on her father's feet as a girl and having him lead. Shakuntala was fine with watching and listening; it's what she is best at.

Axel wasn't aware of the drama that had gone on with the field parade marshal, but he still thought the guy was a weirdo. He watched skeptically while the peculiar man described the selection process, and listened with mounting horror as the aproned volunteer told them about the dancing. Axel, like many of the others there, did not want to dance. At all. Unfortunately, he was stuck in the crowd. He looked around, feeling a bit panicky. Dancing was horrible, no doubt, but the people that weren't dancing stuck out. Some of them were wearing frowns, some trying to pretend to be oblivious to the goings on, but to Axel's eye all of them were just awkward, awkward, awkward. Unbearably awkward. The girl that had been messing around with the stupid horse last night was one of the non-dancers. He made his way over to her and gave her a little smile and wave. "Hey. Do you want to dance?"Awwwkwward. He didn't even know her name. "So we blend in, you know. I'm not too keen on this dancing stuff either. My name's Axel, by the way."

Danny had clung to Shun and Rikki's side for the rest of the day, before eventually returning home. She'd been berated for abandoning the booth so much, but as per usual she was let off the hook, because nobody really cared.
- Day 2 -
Returning the next morning, she was considerably more groggy, but still ready to have a good time. She was, at the very least, considerably more excited and energetic than Shun was.
When the person in charge announced a dance contest, Danny was all too happy to take center stage. She was nearly the first to jump in, bouncing a little with excitement. "What do I do, what do I do?" she murmured. Find a partner?
She turned to the rest of the crowd and said, "Someone-" Maybe a look to Shun- "Dance with me!!"

Lenore paused as she heard her name called and looked around. She caught a glimpse of blue pigtails through the crowd and rushed over to Zinnia. "There are too many people here." She shook her head. "Hi - uh...." The girl tried her hardest to remember her new friend's name. "Zin! Hi."It was at that moment that Saga took his position on the "podium" and delivered what to someone other than Lenore might have been a rousing speech. His place was taken by a woman, and Lenore's eyes went wide in horror at the mention of pairing up for dancing. She didn't want to dance with someone she didn't know! She didn't even want to dance at all, to be honest - the girl didn't understand the point of the odd movements. She turned a pleading look upon Zinnia. "I don't really want to at all, but, please, dance with me so I don't have to dance with someone else!"

Preacher stood motionlelss in the crowd as Saga spoke. Her eyes bore into him, sending hot yellow daggersof a glare tot he oblivious man. He looked ridiculous behind the podium, like a child playing dress up in his mother's clothes. His enthusiasm was innocent, though, if, as always, somehow misplaced. Sighing, Preacher twirled an errant curl around on finger. The rest of her navy hair was up in her hat again, secured but don't of creative tucking and a few precious pins. She wondered what kind of family Saga had had to make him so... flamboyant a young man. What a weirdo. She was so lost in her thoughts that she barely noticed when another person took the stage, only catching the last bits of her speech. Wait... dancing? Preacher blinked. Why would there be dancing? She looked around. Shun leaned back, arms crossed. His face was a little forbidding for today. Still, she sidled over to him. "Not gonna find a pretty lady to dance with, Shun? You're light enough. on your feet, eh. Unless you're here a-lookin' for marks?" The last sentence was said quietly. Preacher hadn't managed to score anything this morning, sadly. She hadn't really tried; the beating from Tinker has left her stiff and sore and while her fingers worked fine, a thief needed their entire body in peak condition. When she moved, Preacher swore she heard creaks and saw stars. A voice nearby caught her attention. Axel was going to dance. Preacher told herself she didn't care. troll toll for the briefest of mentions because why not

Watching others pair up eventually thinned the crowd that hid her from others. Suddenly, she bloomed despite wishing to be a wallflower. Hiding in plain sight was a difficulty. But before she knew it, someone did approach her.
Shakuntala gave Axel a look that crossed between surprise, apprehension, and reluctance. Her eyes glanced to her sides to make sure the male wasn't addressing anyone who happened to be next to her before bowing her head and kicking at the dirt before her like a child thinking too hard on a subject. Eventually, she rose her eyes back to him and gave him a sheepish, awkward smile.
"S-Sure," she said with a small grimace. "I'm Shakuntala, a-and neither am I. The dancing, I mean..."
Blending in with the crowd was better than being seen as a sore loser by others. People judged for any reason, of course.

Zin sighed with relief. There, she didn't have to be alone now. "Hi," she greeted with a smile. She turned her attention to the podium as the man and woman made their announcements. At the mention of dancing, Zin's eyes lit up. She didn't want to be a part of the dancing portion of the parade-- she had her mind set on marching with the other trainees-- but she would never pass up the opportunity for a fun party. Zin's eyes widened when Lenore desperately pleaded to dance with her. She tried and failed to suppress another giggle; somehow, Lenore's behavior never ceased to amuse her. "I'll dance with you," Zin agreed happily. "I was going to ask you, anyway. But," she added, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper, "I don't really know how to dance. Let's try our best, though!" With that, Zin grabbed Lenore's hands in her own and started twirling around with her, paying no heed to what the steps were supposed to look like. She grinned as she danced, clearly having the time of her life.

The fact that it was morning and Rikki was still here meant he at least cared to help out. It did not mean, however, that he looked happy. Instead he looked incredibly tired.
He stood by Danny and the others quietly, barely registering what was being said. He was awake enough to take Danny up on her offer, though, if only to look like he really knew what was happening. He didn't. "I'll dance with you," he said with a lazy smile, holding out his hand.

Danny squinted over Rikki's shoulder and stuck her tongue out in Shun's direction. Well too bad for him, she was going to have more fun with Rikki anyways.
She took Rikki's hand and pulled him towards the "dance floor" so to speak, and then realized one very crucial detail.
"Wait I don't know how to dance."

He followed Danny to the dance floor and then stood there, like he was magically going to know what to do. Squinting at the people around him, he shrugged. "I don't know either. Fake it til you make it?"
He lifted her hand above her head and lead her into a messy twirl. "Better to have fun trying that to worry about anything else."

A number of people were pairing up to begin dancing as requested. He caught Danny's gaze when she sought out a partner of her own, but thankfully Rikki had appeared to take that before she could do something crazy like try to drag him into this. Shun let out a light scoff at Preacher, then shook his head. "I don't dance," he said flatly, "Unless you'd call exchanging blows in a spar as a 'dance'."Regarding his last little sentence, his gaze flicked down towards the younger boy, then let out a breath. "I'd be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind. But no. I'm here for work. Just not... this s**t," he grumbled while making a wave motion to all the dancing.

Danny's face cracked a smile as Rikki eased her worries about dancing. It was good to know that he wasn't going to make fun of her for it. He would probably regret that the thirtieth time step stepped on his foot.
"You think they're gonna let us ride the horses?" Danny asked, eager lilt to her voice. "I've never ridden a horse."

Alec blinked his eyes open, having been asleep on the grass for some time not having intended to be so lazy and doze off for so long. Rubbing his eye as he sat up yawning he blinked a few times stretching. Not that he'd really been asleep that deeply. He could have sworn he heard his name a moment ago. "I know that voice.." He mumbled thoughtfully. Who had called his name, he glanced around looking for the source of the voice swearing he recognized a particular girl. Had that been Lillian? The girl rarely left her workshop with her old man, and was a long time best friend of his over the years. The prospect of seeing the girl at the festival sounded wonderful. "You rang?" he pipped up a little unsure if he'd get an answer having perhaps imagined his name being called. Then they were announcing a dance was going on. No way, he had two left feet. The teen covered his mouth giggling as he watched some pair up. Laying his arms across his bent knees he leaned forward watching the scene unfold with a warm smile on his face. He'd made a lot of what he hoped would be long lasting friends. They were all different, and had different attitudes and ways of going about things. That was evident as Rikki and Danny tried to dance together, or Tala and Axel the red head gave another little yawn. Astro Zombies` by the time you read this the thread may have jumped sorry we'll catch up in a booth/game or just jump in where ever alec is hun <3 any one who needs a dance partner in the mean time.

Lenore started to protest that she had no idea what to do, either, when Zinnia grabbed her by the hands and led her into a strange movement. Lenore looked around helplessly, blushing hard enough to match her eyes. Luckily, it seemed like everyone else was too engrossed in their own dancing or locating a partner to pay the two girls any heed. Looking back at Zin, Lenore couldn't help but notice the girl's happiness at doing something she'd never done before. Is that how you're supposed to feel? She wondered to herself. It was true that she was with her friend, and that it was supposed to make everything more fun. Maybe if she just allowed herself to have fun? Could she even do that? Looking down at the other girl's feet, she tried her hardest to match her movements. Looking back up, she managed a small smile to Zin.
