Stardust Drifter

It was adorable how much they loved the story of the little genie girl. I listened intently as well, curled up on Jack's lap as he pet me gently and read to them their favorite story. Soon they were fast asleep, and he quietly snuck out of their room.

I purred as he spoke, ever so gently nipping at his nose as he nuzzled me. I didn't mind being loved and cuddled!

I was set down on the table next to the bowl of milk, and my hunger caught up with me. I padded over to it and started lapping up the milk eagerly.

I listened too, to the story of how he had met me. How ironic, I thought, that he was telling me the story of how he met me. Mmm... I think I might want to visit the gypsy shop one day. If I ever get my body back.

I let him pull me away from the milk, and he started to cry. He missed me so much.... gods, I'm so close and yet so far, aren't I? He doesn't realize that the little kitten in his arms is the love of his life. I purred, nuzzling his chin and tickling it with my little ears.

After confessing his doubts of me being alive, I thought about that. There had to be some way to give him hope. Hope that I was still there, still trying to reach him. Scattering a genie or jinn in the manner Amani had done to me was more of an inconvenience for them then a true outright death. Any less motivated Genie or Jinn would leave them in pieces for centuries. It certainly was an inconvenience for me. It had taken all of my will to gather enough of my sparks to make this tiny kitten form... hopefully though, it was a large enough mass of them to act like a beacon for the rest. Once I gather enough mass... I can fully working on calling the rest of me.

But still... in the meantime...

Oh! The little one's birthday is tomorrow! I should come up with a gift.

I noticed that Jack was now searching the fridge for food to give me. And that he had placed Mickeahl's Eye on the table infront of me.

I reached out and placed my paw on the surface of the large ruby.

ZZZZZT. Mew!

The ruby had shocked me! Light smoke rose from my now poofy fur as it stood on end, now dry of the damp that had worked it's way into my fur. I looked down at the gem and it sparkled mischievously.

I had long stopped thinking of the Eye as an inanimate object. The way it sparkled with humor at it's slightly shocking greeting only enforced my belief that it had a consciousness and personality. And did the shock make me feel... stronger?

I shook myself and smoothed down my fur with a few licks, before batting at the gem and staring to play with it, sending it bouncing across the table. It glittered-- it liked it. As I darted after it, batting it around, I knew he didn't mind... Micheal never was a serious personality, after all...

Pulling out one of the chicken breasts, Jack began to gently cut it up when he heard a zap. Stopping what he was doing he looked over and noticed the kitten playing with the ruby. Not that it really mattered. Smiling softly, he watched her play with it. Somehow it seemed like it belonged to the kitten, oddly.

Jack hadn't realized Raja was right there! Nor would he until she gathered enough, or all, of herself. Returning to cutting the chicken he put it in a food processer to shred it.

Mixing a bit of gravy into it, he heated the food until it was warm enough and brought it over to the table. Gently picking up Mickeahl's Eye. he stared at the gem for a moment, this time nothing happening like it had the first time he gazed into it's beauty. "You like this huh? Well you can play with it..later. Here Amber you need to eat." he cooed setting the gem down next to him as he picked up the kitten.

Now returning to petting it again he smiled warmly at the kitten, but suddenly the gem began to shine and engulf his vision.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack was holding up Ruby, who seemed to look a bit older. They were at the zoo, near the giraffe exhibit. His two boys were next to him, one of them holding his hand, while the other...
He gasped a moment as he noticed the woman standing next to him. Her long silver hair danced in the wind, as her tanned skin looked flawless. The woman's mouth was moving, but held no voice. Jack, in the vision, turned and spoke his voice holding no sound. They both turned and he gasped.
Jack, in the vision pulled the woman into a warm loving kiss as his hand drifted down slowly to a small baby bump she sported. Even though now he was like a ghost viewing all of this, the woman pulled away and turned to look at him. It was...no it couldn't be....RAJA!!!
She blew a kiss and gave a wink before returning to the Jack in the future vision and softly laying her head on his shoulder. They all turned to gaze at the animals and everything was white once more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Ruby's light faded, and Jack was back at the table with the kitten. A look of shock on his face. For the longest time Micheal had felt the Human's sorrow, remorse, and pain of losing Raja. So, being ever so cheeky, he had shown the Human a vision of the future! How far? That was a mystery, but it would be the hope that Raja wanted to show.

Jack placed a hand to his mouth and cried again, this time happy tears. The vision felt so real...could it be true!? Was Raja going to come back!? She was pregnant too, were they going to naturally have more children!? For the first time, in a long while he felt relief. It was then he knew in his heart...she was alive.

In fact, she oddly felt..close? Though Raja was still gone? Man he was tired after all. Yawning he pet the kitten a bit more before standing. "I'm going to bed little Amber. You eat and find a nice place to sleep alright? Good night little one." he cooed placing the gem back in his pocket before heading off to bed himself, leaving her to finish her meal.

I watched as he put the chicken infront of me, and I started to scarf it down with eagerness. Even something as thrown together as it was, it was still yummy. I enjoyed his petting as I ate.

A flash of light caught the corner of my eye and I looked up. There he was, with that familiar blank stare again. I looked back down at the food and continued to eat, until Jack came round. Micheal loved to do that, didn't he?

I looked up at him, and the man was crying again. This time... with hope in his eyes. I purred at the gem in thanks before it was stowed away in Jack's pocket.

I finished off the food as Jack wished me good night and headed to bed.

I waited.

It was about an hour before I jumped off the kitchen table and went padding to the living room. There was the coffee table, infront of the Chais, with a small side table next to it. I padded over to the coffe table and jumped onto it.

I had been thinking a while. What to give my children? I had much less power in this form, so I could only summon up small things.

It was then I remembered another master of mine... He had been cursed too, but in a different way. He had been a brilliant sorcerer, but cursed to never influence the world in any way. I had guarded his library for a time. It was because of this curse that I forgot him for a while-- though if I thought fairly hard I remembered him. Then after a while I would forget again.

Such was the fate of that man. To be forgotten.

But he had been... something close to kind. He had been harsh, and rough, but inwardly he had been lonely. My stint as a guardian of his research had eased up his life a little. I guarded his scrolls, I was allowed to read them. I lived in the library for so long I memorized each scroll-- it was thanks to him that I could read and write in the first place. He, after all, refused to have an uneducated genie guarding his scrolls.

Perhaps a simple scroll explaining sorcery basics? One look at my children told me they had an amount of power similar to mine-- but the magic type was more what Jack sported-- untapped sorcery.

I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, my eyes glowed white.

Infront of me formed a scroll. It had perfect white paper so soft that it was more like silk. It was thick, as big in diameter as a loaf of bread, and bound to a small wooden pole decorated by gold. The scroll was written in Ancient Arabic, alas. Perhaps it would motivate Jack to learn the language a little bit more. It was held closed by a white ribbon tied neatly in a bow, and a tag formed with my neat exotic handwriting upon it.

"To my dearest Ruby, Jacob, and Aziz. Happy birthday my little ones.

PS. I love you too, my dear, sweet Jack. You are a wonderful father. I am on my way home... I just need to pull myself together.

Raja Alfarsi
"

With that done, I left the scroll there, and I went looking for the cake. It had been in the pantry, locked away so the children couldn't find it. It took only a spark of magic and a well timed leap to open the door, and I went inside.

The cake was large, and decorated in a basic manner with chocolate frosting and curly piped letters.

I had a catty grin. If he didn't notice the scroll at first... he would notice this. I've always been flashy in nature.

The cake started to glow, and it started to change shape. It became chocolate and white marbled, and took on the shape of three lavish pillows stacked upon each other. The top pillow was decorated in pale pinks and golds, looking like velvet; the second, was a sort of checkerboard patterned in two different shades of teal, decorated by brightly colored little buttons. The last was the largest and a bright royal purple in color, plain in pattern but with gold colored edging and tassels, and shiny like silk. Written in frosting on the bottom pillow was the words "Happy Birthday!"

Around it on the now quite fancily designed base were three small incense lamps made of solid gold. One was decorated by Rubies, one with Deep Russian amethysts, and the last decorated by Teal Topaz. They looked like the classic lamp a Genie would come out of.

They didn't hold genies... but they were still pretty. Quite a lovely cake, I must say.

I was now completely exhausted though. Half asleep on my feet I padded out of the pantry and closed the door behind me with the little magic I had left, before towards Jack's bedroom. I jumped onto the bed and I padded across the huge circular bed, and I climbed onto a pillow next to his head. I curled up and was asleep before I realized it.

((The cake I used for reference. ))

Jack lay in bed half asleep there was so much going on through his mind. Mainly Raja, she was alive. Still how? The woman had exploded in a flash of brilliant sparks? As he tried to think Jack just ended up getting frustrated as he thought in circles.

Closing his eyes for a moment he was about to drift off when suddenly something jumped onto the bed and in the corner of his eye he noticed the kitten snuggling down next to him. In the darkness he heard purring, like it was some kind of motor boat, as the kitten kneaded the pillow before curling around and settling to sleep. Turning he watched it sleep some and gently gave it a kiss on the forehead.

"Good night little Amber..." he softly cooed before settling down himself and going to sleep....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"DADDY!! DADDY!!! DADDY!!!!" shouted the excited voice of Aziz.
Jack was woken by his son jumping happily up and down on his bed. They would do this occasionally. Usually it was all three of them, but Aziz was usually an early bird. Laying there for a moment he gazed at a digital clock near his bed.
7:30 AM
He grumbled a bit and slowly sat up. Eye's half asleep, hair out of place, he stared at his excited son who giggled and tackled him in a hug. Cuddling into his chest Aziz smile. "Happy Birthday Daddy!!!" he happily said.
"Silly, it's not my birthday..." Jack chuckled back ruffling his hair. This boy, well there was no use in going back to sleep was there? "Wake up your sister and brother! We're going to make a Birthday Breakfast!"
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!" exclaimed the boy as he leapt out of Jack's arms and off the bed! Looking at Amber, who looked comfortable on the pillow next to Jack, the boy stared at the kitty for a moment before pointing. "Amber will help too right?"
"Amber will help too, now get everyone up! Hurry now!!" he smiled watching his son dart out of the room.
Glancing over to the cat he chuckled. It would probably just try to eat everything. Jack was still tired, but the love his children gave him was so precious. They were growing fast, and before long they would be off on their own. It was the small moments like this that he cherished the most.
I woke to someone shouting, and and the bed bouncing up and down in a manner that was extremely unpleasant for a creature of my size.
MROOOOWWWW! I cried out, shooting upward with a beat of my wings.
I found myself literally on the ceiling with my claws dug into the plaster and my fur standing on end. I tentatively looked down to see Aziz... oh Lord, it was just Aziz. Did that happen often?
It took me a moment for me to work my claws out of the plaster, and I fell away. I glided down towards Jack, and I landed on his head.
Mew.
((You are welcome. I thought you'd be amused at the classic "Scared Cat" reaction. I pictured the sound she made as the classic cheesy cat yowl you hear in suspenseful situations in movies. "That poor cat!"))
Jack jumped a little hearing the kitten howl. Looking up he laughed watching as it clung to the ceiling before letting go and slowly drifting down to land on his head.
"Get used to this Amber, the triplets love jumping on my bed. At least it wasn't all three of them today." he commented with love in his voice. Softly picking the kitten from his head Jack got up and held her in his arms.
"Let's get you some breakfast little one, before we all create a mess in the kitchen." he mused as he left the room, chuckling softly as he heard the kids grumbling as Aziz was trying to get them up.
The house was dark in the early morning, it was funny because when Raja was around this place would always smell like incense. Sometimes he would catch her talking to her babies or meditating. Even though he complained about the smell sometimes, Jack missed it.
Setting the kitten on his shoulder he noticed something. A scroll? Walking over to it he opened it up out of curiosity. Staring at the Arabic words he blinked a little in confusion. Jack knew a little, and learned a little more when his kids first began speaking, so he was only able to pick out some of the words.
Yet this definitely was her handwriting!
"Raja!?" he suddenly called out in slight excitement. Setting the scroll down his children would be able to read it easily. Searching around the house he found that it was still empty, strange. Looking at the kitten on his shoulder, Jack sighed. "Let's get you something to eat. Maybe some soup? I'll have to buy some cat food." he thought out loud.
Walking into the pantry he didn't notice the cake at first until he turned on the light and looked over to make sure the cake hadn't been touched. He stared a bit in shock..it was..different.
This had Raja written all over it! "RAJA!? Ok where are you this isn't funny!?" he called out starting to sound paranoid. Still silence. With a deep sigh he began to scour the cans of soup when his daughter squeeled with glee.
"A large nummy cakie!!!" she cried out happily. "Nummie nummie!!! Daddy did you do this!?" she asked already stealing a bit of the icing.
"H-Hey Ruby! You'll spoil breakfast! No cakie until later, understood!"
"Awwww!!! B-But Daddy, I-I want Cakie nooooooo~oooow!!! Can we have it for bweakfast?" she pouted after licking her finger. Jack frowned and crossed his arms.
"No, you'll have to wait! No cake for breakfast! We're making apple cinnamon waffles!" he said bending down and ruffling her hair. Ruby cried a little and hugged his waist.
"B-But...I-I want...cakie...." she sniffled.
Ruby was like him it seemed, not a morning person. Jack kissed her forehead and thought up something. Softly removing Amber from his shoulder he placed the cat on her head.
She looked up and giggled. "I know why don't you show Amber your room!" he said happily.
Ruby smiled and nodded wiping her eyes before picking the kitten off her head. "Yay!! Kitty!! Let's go play Ambie!!!" He laughed as he watched her run off.
It was then Jack realized why he was in the pantry in the first place..."Oh no I was going to feed the kitten!" he gasped then began to run after his daughter....
~~~~~~

After a few morning shenanigans, Amber finally got something to eat. The kitchen was now alive with all four of them making breakfast. Jack handled the more dangerous things while his children helped mix and pour and stir. The kitchen was becoming a sloppy mess, but he didn't care. He loved making breakfast with his children!

((They're able to talk very well. I don't see why they should be able to read at all unless he's been teaching them.))

I got a real kick out of seeing Jacks' reaction to the scroll. It was so funny! Alas, I wanted to hug and snuggle him and my children right now. Alas, I am a kitten for the moment, so instead I started grooming his hair.

Mrrooooowwwwww.... At the mention of the cat food I made an unhappy noise. So undignified! Yuck!

Then we reached the pantry. I saw the shock and excitement in his eyes, as he looked around for me. Silly man, I'm on your head! I thought.

A few minutes later I was used as a distraction for Ruby (which I didn't mind) and it became a game of back and forth ad Jack remembered he wanted to feed me. I eventually got my food (after knocking over an unopen can of chicken broth and stealing and egg from the carton and batting it around the counter. I want my egg drop soup, dammit! I'll make it myself if I have to!)

Of course, it became the waffles and egg drop soup, when the children wondered if what I was having was nummy... at least I kept them entertained with my play with the egg.

The kitten made an unhappy noise. Maybe it didn't want cat food? Then what could they feed it that was safe enough for it? Out of the corner of his eye Jack noticed the kitten knock over an unopen can of chicken broth and play with an egg.

Something in his heart told him to make egg drop soup. He didn't know why, but he felt it was what the cat wanted. Strange...it acted so different for a cat as well. The way it seemed to cling to him more than the children...almost as if...

Nahh..that would be silly! Still maybe this kitten was final parting gift from Raja? Jack secretly began to make the soup as the children began to play with the kitten.

Getting it obviously dirty, poor thing. Each one of them carried Amber back and forth with sticky hands. Jack softly picked her away and carefully used a soft wash cloth to clean up the kitten.

Oddly it didn't mind getting wet, which he was glad for...
~~~~~~~~~~~
Breakfast was finished! There were scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, toast, english muffins, for Aziz because he loved them, as well as orange juice and milk. Jack told them to wash up and they ran off leaving him to set the table. Allowing Amber to rest on his head he set the table in silence, except for a few morning birds chirping outside.
"Well then, that's all done. Oh! I still need to feed you Amber." he softly said setting the kitten on the kitchen table. "Wait here a moment I have something for you."
In a matter of seconds a small bowl of Egg Drop Soup was set before Amber. Jack softly slinking into a chair near the kitten. "I hope you can digest this, for some strange reason I had a feeling I should make you this soup. It was one of Raja's favorites." he said softly as he watched Amber.
Raja was always eating the soup. Big bowls of it too. Being pregnant he was amazed at how much she could eat, yet thanks to her cravings for the soup the children loved it too. Maybe it was something they remembered swimming in her while she ate it? Still, Egg Drop Soup was popular in his house. Jack had improved a bit too, and in the soup he set before Amber it was prepared the way he would prepare it for his wife.
Or well, genie friend, but if she was still around she would be his wife technically. Softly cutting a bit of waffle Jack ate slowly as the children returned and began to happily devour their food. He watched with an expression of love, his children were his treasures. They were a gift from a woman who had been cursed to carry them for a long time. They were so beautiful.
In silence he ate just watching, chuckling a little as one of his children would occasionally ask for more to drink or another helping. Once they were full enough they ran off to play with their toys leaving a small mess at the table. Having children was a chore sometimes, but the joy knowing that you were able to bond with them was so priceless.
"I love them so much Amber. Still, they're growing so fast. I never realized how fast genie children grow." he said to the kitten now petting her fur gently.
I squirmed, but didn't resist as the children played with me with their dirty little hands. Gah! I see why cats are so picky about clean fur. The goop matting it up feels so grooooooosssssss.
Still... they were kids.
I was about to start licking myself clean-- you know, one of those kitty instincts-- when the kids ran off to wash up and Jack started wiping me clean with a damp rag. Oh thank god... I purred and held still to his attempts to get me clean. Eventually the dirtiness was gone, and I flapped my wings gently to dry my fur a little.
Then I was presented with my breakfast-- egg drop soup! I immediately dove in, lapping up the tasty meal happily, and playing with the strings of egg whites that floated around in the broth. As I ate I watched the children play and make a mess with a sense of motherly pride.
It wasn't long until I finished the bowl, my tummy pleasantly full. I was being stroked by Jack, and I pawed at his hand and gently niped at his fingers.
Hey Daddy...? Said Ruby, wandering in. She had the scroll in her little hands, which were thankfully clean. She looked fairly curious but a little confused. What's this?
Jack watched softly as Amber played with him a little. The kitten was so pretty, though what sex was it? Having the curiosity get the better of him he lifted her up and nodded.
Female huh? They would probably have to get her fixed, then again kittens with wings probably were rare. Feeling her squirm he set the kitten down just in time to have Ruby walk up to him and ask about the scroll.
"It's a gift from your Mommy." he said softly watching her climb into his lap. A small gasp coming from her, he shook his head before she could speak. "No Mommy isn't here right now, but maybe she somehow paid a visit to us last night? The cake was from her too. This, is a letter for you I assume. Since it mentions your names. I can't read all of it though..." he said hugging her gently.
((The kitten has so much personality~!))
And squirm I did. I pawed at him, not wanting to claw... oh god, he wasn't thinking of getting me fixed, was he!? Not if he wants to have more kids with me, he won't! He put me down and I looked at him reproachfully, and started to lick my ruffled fur in a dismissive manner.
The little girl gasped, but listened respectfully as he finished his sentance. She started to pout when he said Mommy wasn't here.
The two boys looked at each other, perking up when Jack had said their mother had paid them a visit.
Is she still here?
We'll go look!
Mommy! Mommy!
The two boys ran from the kitchen, calling for their mommy.
I looked up from where I had been grooming the fur on my back, and shook my little furry head and put a paw over my eyes in a catly face palm.
