A part of Lin worried what would happen if the man regained his memories, but she was also certain that if he had been truly unredeemable he would have never been reborn.

"Then we will, that I will promise."

And hope that it all turns out well.

Mailon was grateful to them for that, and beyond that he was not much for conversation so Lin and Earendil left shortly thereafter.

Ahkshi had finished with the boy in the other room by now, and he was working in one of the other rooms, tidying things up, as Earendil and Lin were leaving. Earendil spotted him through an open doorway and tapped Lin on the shoulder.

"Should we ask him?" he asked her quietly, nodding at the physician.

"We might as well," Lin replied.

No point in dragging it out for longer, besides, they probably won't even get a resolution today since it depended on Kyrie on finally confronting the man.

Earendil nodded. He stepped back to the open doorway and knocked on it to get the physician's attention.

"Ahkshi?" he called out softly. "Do you have a moment?"

Ahkshi set down the tray he had just picked up and looked back at the two of them. "Of course," he replied with a smile. "What is it?"

"It's about Mailon," Lin murmured softly, "Uhm..."

She wasn't sure how to say this without being blunt, but in the end she couldn't see how not to be blunt in a case like this. So she just went with her thought process.

"How long is he going to be here healing?" she finally asked.

Ahkshi blinked in surprise. "Is there a reason he should leave early?" he asked them in response. "He is making good progress, but I don't think he is ready yet ..."

He trailed off, unsure of where Lin was going with the question.

To be honest, Earendil wasn't much better off. He let her keep going with the questions, since he was sure she knew what she was talking about anyways.

Lin paused and then finally replied, "Besides the fact he's going stir crazy in there?"

She looked at him carefully, wondering if Ahkshi had just simply not noticed how much this situation was bothering Mailon.

"Ahkshi, he's been there, from my understanding, for over a season. He doesn't know why he's being kept hidden away, he doesn't know what is the truth and what is a lie, and he's well aware that it's taking him much longer than usual to heal."

Lin was putting it out there, it was no secret that Ahkshi was hampering in the healing process to buy Kyrie time to confront the man, but this wasn't doing the man any good.

"And while I don't quite know how reincarnation works, I know enough to see that seeing Kyrie has triggered something. The problem is, he doesn't know why, he doesn't remember, and all this secrecy is making him paranoid and stressed."

She paused and then added.

"You're torturing him with the fear of the unknown."

Ahkshi set his jaw grimly and stepped closer to them so that he could speak quietly, without being overheard.

Unfortunately for Earendil, it meant he could no longer hear the conversation.

"Do you not think," the physician said quietly, "that I d-don't know this? I want this to end as m-much as you do. And as m-much as I do not like to have to do it this way, if I must make one of them suffer ... it will not be my wife."

His green eyes were blazing with passion, rather than fury, but his words were nevertheless intense.

"For three years he t-tortured her ph-phys-physically, and even after she k-k-killed him, she had n-nightmares about him for centuries," he went on. "Even now, s-seeing him again, her n-nightmares are returning. If he must wa-wait in discomfort a little longer while she g-g-gathers the courage to f-face him, so be it."

Lin supposed it is what people say in Gaia, karma can be a b***h. Since this was the guy's past life.

She sighed and ran her hand through her hair, but she looked at him with a mixture of sadness and disappointment. Sadness, because it was true Kyrie had been through so much, but disappointment because until Mailon was, unless he remembered and returned to his past life, a different man than the one who hurt Kyrie.

"Then at least tell him," she replied, "Of who he once was, it's not something I would normally condone, but I would rather feel more comfortable in making a man who remembers suffer for his deeds, than a man who as far as he remembers has never lived that life. Don't punish someone in this life who is an innocent, because what is to prevent any of us from chasing someone from one life to the next then?"

"And do you th-think that he would believe me?" Ahkshi sighed. "As you s-said, in this life h-h-he is a g-good man. Would he b-believe me were I to t-t-tell him that in a f-former life he was a m-m-monster?"

He shook his head. "N-none but Kyrie has the r-right to f-face him with that. Sh-she is the only one l-l-living who can tell him f-from exp-p-perience. If anyone else w-were to t-tell him and he were to ask 'Were you th-there?', we would have to s-say n-n-no."

He shrugged. "And when he de-demands proof? Eye-witnesses? Then K-Kyrie would be dragged into it anyw-way."

Lin conceded, he probably wouldn't believe them, or it might just trigger the rest of his memories. She wasn't quite sure how that worked actually.

She sighed once more, "Alright, when you put it that way."

She wondered though if Mailon would finally just try to leave even without his things. If he might try to break out because he really did not know what was going on? She didn't like the fact that Ahkshi called the growing dis concern a "discomfort'. Paranoia, could make people do really desperate things.

"But I want you to know he begged us to see he could find answers. He didn't ask, he begged, and if his things weren't hidden, he would have walked out of here without your consent. Really, if push comes to shove, he might walk out of here without his things."

She took Earendil's hand as if to motion the end to this conversation. Lin wasn't going to get into an argument with Ahkshi over this, but she hoped Kyrie would work up the courage soon. She didn't see this ending well if it went on for any longer.

Ahkshi rubbed his eyes and nodded. "Or he m-might rans-s-sack the clinic looking for it all," he murmured. He sighed. "I'll t-talk to Kyrie again. She h-has to face him s-s-sooner or later, and the l-longer she puts it off, the worse it's g-going to be."

He fell silent for a moment, then put his hands together and looked towards Lin and Earendil again.

"Why d-don't you c-come with me to c-convince her?" he asked them. "And ... if it's not t-t-too much t-t-to ask, would you b-be there when she d-does face him? If she d-does manage it? I would n-not want any accidents happening ..."

Implying of course that they may need to hold Kyrie back if something happened.

Lin nodded, that was a fair request. She wasn't sure if they would be able to keep Kyrie from killing the man if it came down to it, but they would try.

"Since we did bring this up down, it's only fair we help out," Lin assured him.

"Thank you," Ahkshi murmured gratefully. He motioned for them to follow him, and led the way out of the room and towards the door to outside. "I must be honest," he continued as they went, "this is a s-subject that I have ... tried to p-put off with Kyrie."

Earendil could understand that (and was grateful that Ahkshi was speaking up again).

"Actually, I was g-glad when she told me that she had c-c-confided to you a p-portion of what he had d-d-done to her," Ahkshi added. "To be able to s-s-speak of it with others ... I b-b-believe that is a s-sign that she is mo-more ready than she believes."

Lin nodded at this as she followed. She hadn't been aware that it was rare she confided in anyone about this, even though it made sense.

She hoped it did really mean Kyrie was more ready than she thought.
