Camelot was glad the others had come over to add their opinions, nodding his head at the different suggestions and finding them much better than his own thoughts on the subject. No one so far had been able to touch it, but that did not necessarily mean no one could, they just might not have found the right person, as Niflhel suggested.

The idea of some other way to 'unlock it' or get it to do whatever it was it was supposed to do, was also a good possibility. Saying the right thing, doing the right thing: if there was some sort of password or trick to it, they would have to be there a while, trying anything.

"I think there is something here that we're missing. I'm not entirely sure we will find the way until it shows us, but trying whatever ideas you all might have certainly can't hurt. We can't attack it, can't call our weapons, and so far no one can even touch it, so doing damage to it does not seem likely. Ah. Perhaps the point of it is to get us to work together, to figure it out."

Andronicus snorted and watched the group flock to the scroll. She would have, but having a bum foot and not crutch or cane was really unhelpful. Besides, there were stairs. She'd found in her two hours being home that stairs were the bane of her existence right now. She couldn't exactly manuvever steps without something ending up in pain or half falling down them.

Going up was hell. She really didn't want to experience going down. So Andronicus stayed on her bench and watched. She was sure to be able to see something from up here.

---

Bifrost on the other hand, trotted down the group (because everyone massing in it) and decided to stand smack dab in the middle of the incorporeal scroll. Because clearly that was the way to open it, and clearly no one else was going to be as daring (she also just really wanted to stand in that mass of energy. It was warm...).

"It's really warm!" she said to the entire group around her. Well its a scroll that apparently needed opening, correct. What better way to do that then:

"I pledge my life and loyality to Chronos and the Bifrost. I humbly request your aid, in order to reveal the contents of the scroll," not quite the pledge, but close enough surely to invoke some sort of change in the scroll.

"'Abracadabra'?" Hvergelmir continued to offer helpfully.

"'Knighthood is awesome'?

"'The crow flies at midnight'?

"'By the power of Greyskull'?"

If she couldn't be much help, she supposed she could try to see the humor in the situation, while greater minds, evidently all much more experienced in these sorts of things, worked on figuring it out.

Babylon stared at the scroll, hands folded thoughtfully beneath his chin. "Why is this knight different from all other knights?" he suggested - or maybe he was saying night? The only thing clear from his intonation was he thought he was pretty clever. And hey - the time of year worked for the joke, right?

"You know," he called rhetorically to their absent host, stepping a bit closer to Hvergelmir, whose sense of humor he liked. "If you wanted to host a seder, you only had to say so. I'd have brought a dish. So, like, what? Have we got to find the afikomen before you'll tell us what's up?"

He made an eh, eh sort of gesture to Hvergelmir. There was a 98% chance, statically, that no one here had any idea what he was talking about.

Hvergelmir wasn't Jewish, but she'd been to several Seders before with the families of friends, when she'd been younger and had had more friends -- before the coma had whittled her list of remaining associates down to more or less just the one. She'd loved it -- the remembrances, the theme, the drama of it all -- it was a great way to commemorate a holiday.

She didn't pick up on Babylon's reference right away, but when she did, her face lit up. "Ooh, ooh! Maybe we're waiting for Elijah," she countered with a smile.

"I haven't met a Mars Knight either" Falias admitted. In fact prior to today Falias could probably have counted the Knights that he'd come across on both hands and if he went by the number that he;d actually talked to then the count would most likely be restricted to the single hand.

"And I haven't been a Squire for that long" he added in answer to Aventine's query about his upgrade. In fact he'd been a Squire for so little time that he hadn't even really examined his new 'weapon' and given that his upgrade had taken place on the floor of a burning warehouse he'd had bigger worries at the time.

Before Falias could finish his internal debate about whether he wanted to go into the burning warehouse floor aspect of his upgrade, he was distracted by the sudden sense of a large amount of energy, head turning automatically in the direction he'd thought it was coming from. "Did you feel that?" He asked Aventine, his voice slightly distracted.

He hadn't caught the scroll appearing, but it was hard to miss people suddenly moving towards part of the Coliseum floor "It looks like there's something there" he added perhaps somewhat needlessly.

Falias thought he'd caught sight of what looked like armour - Camelot perhaps - amongst some of the Knights congregating around the area where the energy seemed to be coming from, glancing back at Aventine as he offered "And t least it's something rather than nothing so maybe we should check it out." He waited a moment or so to see if Aventine agreed before suiting action to words and moving closer.

He managed to get close enough to spot the scroll, although that was largely helped by the fact that said scroll happened to be the size of a rug.

Shalott couldn't help moving forward when the scroll appeared. What did it mean? Was it an announcement? Could someone take it? She let her hand pass through the mist and shuddered at the power she felt there, greater than what she'd first felt when her husband powered up to Templar in front of her for the first time. That had felt overwhelming.

"Honey?"

She couldn't help but look to him for answers even though he was as clueless as the rest of them. He was of the scholastic mindset and she trusted that more than her gut reactions when the situation called for it. He was more analytical than she was most of the time. They had long talked about bringing the knights together to give strength in structure and guidance to those that were knew to the calling. She felt as adults it was their responsibility to guide.

"What do you suppose it is?"

Though, probably the more important question was what did it say, not necessarily where it came from. It had to do with them, all of them, assembled. It couldn't be a coincidence that there were only knights here in a Colosseum.

"It's a challenge." She murmured, passing her hand through the scroll again. She turned to her husband. "How long have we talked about this? Getting everyone together to answer questions, to counsel? This is a good chance. You are the strongest of all of us assembled."

Sherwood was torn between going closer to examine the scroll or hanging back until it proved it wasn't there to curse them all, or something. Besides, Newgrange didn't seem to be getting closer and she wasn't exactly keen on the idea of letting him go. Dragging him toward the thing seemed impolite, too. But against every other misgiving she had about this war and the lack of direction she had she could at least say she was still terribly curious about why they all existed. Indeed, she'd never dreamed there would be so many of them all different in their own ways. It was fascinating to see everyone gathered.

The magic part still didn't make her feel comfortable, though. If it could pull her out of her bedroom what else could it do?

"Maybe we should move closer. Maybe that's the handbook."

Or, at the very least, a clue of how to get home.

”Fancy seeing you here,” Sessrumnir grinned, approaching Palatine, although he did spare a wink to the ladies that were near her. “What do you think?” he asked, jabbing a thumb towards the scroll that appeared out of nowhere. “Maybe it’ll start reading us a story. If there aren’t holograms, I’m going to be very disappointed in Martian technology,” he joked, although he was fairly certain he would be ready for just about anything this planet threw at them.

There were several others already heading towards it, but Sessrumnir remained where he was, shrugging and crossing his arms. “Why have a coliseum if you have to get up close? Hey! Down in front!” he called, really wishing he’d managed to smuggle a beer or two with him.

Eventually he took a seat a row behind Palatine, leaning back to rest against the row of seats behind him. “Someone should try asking it in Klingon,” he suggested, mostly to himself with a laugh. “Seems Martian enough.”

Not that he knew anything about Martians, but obviously no one else did either.

With Sessrumnir, there wasn't really anything to do but roll her eyes and grin and bear it.

Except Palatine didn't grin. She just beard it.

“Sit down, a*****e,” she told him, but it seemed he already intended to do just that. She didn't bother to move aside to make room for him, which hardly seemed to matter to him at all seeing as he simply climbed up onto the bench behind her. Palatine figured this was tolerable. That was what he was now, after all—tolerable.

Still an a*****e, though, and she told herself the comment came out sounding more annoyed than it did in reality. The truth was it was hard to be annoyed with him when he was about the only knight she bothered to have any sort of contact with these days. It helped that he was family. Made it obligatory. It also helped that she knew he was capable of being serious. If only he made it a habit more often. In any case, his company was preferable to that of anyone creepy-young.

Palatine hardly blinked when the scroll appeared, merely settled back on the bench and unknowingly fell into a pose similar to Sessrumnir's, her legs crossed at the knee, feet casually resting upon the bench in front of her, while her elbows jutted behind, propping her up. She made no move toward the scroll, unwilling to thrust herself into the crowd of other knights.

She'd waited this long to figure out what they were doing here. Let the rest of them get a closer look. Palatine was fine right where she was.

“It's kind of amusing the way they all flock,” she said in an undertone. "Look at the wheeling," she added quietly. Her tone was rather blandly humorous. "Uniform direction changes... just like a flock of birds."

If Sessrumnir didn't get the reference, he wasn't worth her time.

Camelot might have been the strongest, but arguably not the most reckless, and curiosity and the need to punch buttons until something blew up was starting to over ride caution as Kairatos made a move toward the curious crowd milling around the scroll. No one had yet been blasted, but he thought Bifrost might be on the right track.

"Let's see what happens if we go with the non modified version." He suggested to the Chronos Page. "Or.. maybe..."

This was Mars after all, maybe it would work? Or did they all have to swear? He wasn't sure, but he tried to get close enough to take a tentative wave at the mist coming off the strange floating scroll. maybe there was something where it came up? Maybe they were supposed to use their rings?

"Hey, let me check something out." He added, trying to get closer and holding out the hand with his signet ring, nudging it at the curious scroll to see if ring and paper had any form of interaction, adding, because he did think Bifrost's idea was a good one...

"I pledge my life and loyalty to Mars, and to Kairatos.
I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine."

Niflhel slowly grew uninterested in the scroll as everyone began to gather around it as well and made his way to the Podium to look around it and investigate. Perhaps there was a tigger here too?

The Saturn knight wasted no time in inspecting each inch of the Podium as if he expected some great wizard of Oz to have a trap door or something. A button? It might have been a touch sophisticated but wasn't there almost always some sort of random hidden something or other with these things? "If I were a secret button.... where would I hide?" He muttered quietly enough that it got lost in the other voices quite easily.

As fingers, and full bodies, passed through the scroll it ebbed and shifted a little in response, though after each attempt it would slowly reshift to the original scroll form.

However something else did seem to illicit more of a reaction. As Bifrost and Kairatos each spoke their own pledges the scroll pulsed with momentary light.

For a moment the 'scroll' remained floating there, until finally it began to unfurl, revealing a scrawled text. The knights would quickly find, however, that they need not be close enough to the scroll to read it (not that they could recognize the characters on it anyway), because from seemingly nowhere a voice filled the Coliseum or perhaps it was just their own heads...

"Knights of the Universe." Thankfully, and inexplicably, it was English.

"I have been calling out to you all for many years. Perhaps you have felt it or heard it in some way?" Most had at some point, whether they knew it or not. It had not likely been a voice at the time, but more of a feeling. When they first harnessed their powers. Those strange feelings some of them had when their weapons changed. When a knight was lost and in need. Though it might not have been a voice at the time, something had been trying to 'speak' to them all all this time.

"At last, now you have found this place that will let you hear me more clearly."

"I am the Code. I exist in everything, see everything. I observe the balance of everything. Light and dark. Order and Chaos. The universe cannot survive for long when the scales tip too heavily in one direction." Those who happened to be watching the 'scroll' would notice it's shape begin to shift, the mist swirling and shifting in color until it resembled instead a large scale. A scale whose arms dipped and settled in unison with the voice.

"It was the duty of your ancestors to protect The Code and spread it's words across the universe. This is your duty as well, the job of every knight. Protect the delicate balance. Promote peace."

"The balance shifted many years ago towards Chaos."

For a brief second, Newgrange considered Sherwood's words, and then finally he nodded. On one hand, he doubted he was in any way more of an expert for ancient magical scroll-reading than any of the other knights in the room, but on the other hand he was curious, and you never got any answers just sitting back and doing nothing.

"Maybe," he agreed after a moment, and then began to approach the scroll. He was in no rush, and moved at a slow enough pace that he didn't feel as though he were dragging the Earth page by his side. "Seems like it's come a little late if it is," he added, looking around at the more powerful knights who didn't seem to display any sense of familiarity towards the scroll.

"Some of these people seem like they've already gotten everything figured out."

He stiffened when the voice spoke; it had not been anything he had expected. He didn't know what he'd been expecting, but seeing the thing move—hearing it talk—made him stop where he stood. He didn't have any desire to get closer to the thing despite not feeling any sort of menace from it.

He felt a mixture of concern and relief; he was partially expecting a reprimand for letting his ancestors down, but this thing—whatever it was—sounded like it knew what it was saying.

So maybe it was the handbook after all.

Aventine stared, though said nothing for a long moment. She had clearly zoned out while staring at the scroll.

Its aura intrigued her and she was greatly compelled to touch it, though feared that there might be some sort of dire consequences from doing so. It was clear that she agreed with Falias insofar as she wanted to check it out; she was curious to know what it was—what it was doing here—almost as much as she was curious what they were doing here.

She couldn’t claim to be afraid, but she was definitely at least out of her comfort zone and didn't want to be facing this alone. She followed after Falias, though didn't try to get as close to the scroll as he did. Instead, she stood just a bit behind him, one hand lightly resting on his arm as though she were ready to grab it and run in an instant.

She nearly did the second it started speaking.

Blankly, she stared at the scroll while it shifted forms, and her fingers moved to wrap around Falias' arm.

Words eluded her, and rather than try to add anything to the conversation, she just looked around to see how others were taking this strange, magical, shape-shifting dust.

Babylon was thrilled that Hvergelmir not only got his joke, but was able to come up with a timely response right on the spot, and he grinned at her. Only for a second, though, because then the mysterious intangible scroll started to do a thing, besides just being mysterious and intangible.

"I don't supposed this is what you had in mind when you suggested we were waiting for Elijah," he said to Hvergelmir, more or less literally talking out the side of his mouth.

"Huh," he said, tilting his head to the side as he regarded the Code. He supposed that he understood about having heard it calling before - or else, he was doing that thing you did when someone introduced a concept way too advanced for you and you didn't want to look stupid so you just played along. But everything else, he definitely understood - though he was not about to tell an ancient piece of intelligent magic to tell him something he didn't already know.

That seemed rude, after all.

Shazari

This was officially way too ******** weird for Megiddo. And besides, she disagreed with all this bullshit about balance, anyway. "I thought we were supposed to wipe chaos out," she challenged. "I thought we were supposed to destroy it before it destroys us."

That was just, like, the law for the jungle, right?

"Oh, okay," Alfheim reacted with the same placid daze he had been trapped in since he arrived. The scroll's appearance had been weird, but a thankful distraction from trying to convince Svartalfheim that the planet Earth was not, in fact, ending without her on it.

It did bring up some interesting concerns about the frequency of mass disappearances, though, when his automatic assumption had been revealed to be that the society of Destiny City should cut them some slack because this was expected by now.

Hara seemed to be conversing just fine with other knights with him standing there like a prop so nothing had really occurred to prompt much awake behavior. He was still like 40% sure this was a dream or he was just baked and he had forgotten somewhere along the way.

And then the scroll started talking. Suspicions confirmed.
