Instead, she equipped a new deck, and threw on her special guild buddy bonus.
"I'm a little scared to go on ..." she said, brandishing her sword. "But we can do this!"

SANSHARK decided, now that he'd cooled off, this was the best time to switch to his other deck. He hated this deck, but understood how vital it was to the operation.
May as well heal, too.

After collecting her presents, Mimsy did what was very important for her to tactically do, and gave Robert his good luck kiss. And poked all of them again, just for fun, which probably wasn't important at all.

And for his next trick..~! Robert would shoot himself in the foot! Even though he didn't have a gun! Cards to the foot then? Yes, yes that is what happened. An inauspicious beginning for the fight. It was poignant, then, that he found a casket waiting for him when he failed. He looked inside, and nodded. That looked about right - lying there, dead, with his heart ripped out of his chest. No. Cut out. Yeah. That looked just about right.

Smoke rose out of the casket and images of her friends being slaughtered, her hands dripping with blood, and then something struck her from behind and she felt herself blacking out ...

She had died once before, but it was nothing like this. After peering into the casket, she was taken into a nightmare only her mind could conjure. It wasn't outwardly frightening, it was just silence, nothingness. But, nothingness had such a weight to it. Her shoulders slumped and her body felt heavy, she could hear nothing, see nothing but white, even the air lost its slight taste. It was only a few seconds, but it felt like ages, slowly wasting away underneath and unbearable, torturous pressure. She cried out, but no one would help her. Even now, hunters terrified her. Although she had met plenty who seemed like decent people, there were always others who would send shivers down her spine and force bile to rise in her throat.

Rage was like fire in her eyes, and she let out a war cry and shoved her bladed bow through his heart. He came back to reality screaming. It made no sense, Mimsy thought, for her to find herself within that coffin. Did it mean another iteration? A Mimsy from another world? The original, the one she sent home? Maybe just one quick look. Just a glimpse, just to know. ( It was warm, cooling rapidly around her fingertips. It was not moving. It was a human heart.) It was empty, and so was she - there was nothing to take, nothing to replicate, nothing to make her own. And now there was nobody to show her, day after day after day, how to correct everything that she'd been doing wrong, so she could feel as whole as she wanted to be. Nobody left to love her. Nobody waiting at home. It was as empty as a heart would be from someone who never loved her at all. She knew it was lost, that one last promise of humanity, and she lost the will to fight the shadows that would take her to the place that she really belonged. No. That wasn't true. It wasn't. This was imaginary and irrational, and that was not how this ended. He did love her. He said so. It had to be true.
