Apparently lessons were hard to learn for the black dog and it took a third stomp on his already sore foot to get it through his thick head that this gnome wouldn't allow itself to be 'reaped.'

Maybe she wasn't quite ready to give up yet. After a few minutes spent settling her wounded pride, Chaya returned for another try. Another miss, and she yipped in frustration as the gnome stomped her again.

One final good stomp from the gnome told Tybalt that he would never succeed as a reaper, causing the black dog to return the blow up scythe to Sparrow.

Trisha had been just walking by when the reaper handed her the scyth. Oh reap the gnomes? She held the inflatable scyth in her hands and stared at the gnomes.

Mayaa's eyes widened to the size of saucers when she was handed an inflatable scythe. It was probably a good thing she wasn't given a real one, because within seconds, she was already on top of one, laughing gleefully as she bopped him continuously over the head.

Clara had been walking past booths when she saw some little gnomes scurrying past her and was handed a large scythe by one of the dorm RAs she noticed had been working at the reaper booth.
With a swipe, Clara tried to "reap" one of the gnomes closest to her, but it had noticed and stomped on her.

Frustrated with the first attempt and annoyed at the little gnomes, which seemed to be teasing her as they stuck their tongues out before hiding again, Clara swiped at another gnome. Unfortunately, this one also saw the scythe coming and proceeded to stomp on her foot as well.

Clara felt like the other students and guests who had visited the dorm booth before had had a slight advantage because these gnomes seemed to have develop a skill in avoiding plastic scythes. Or she could just be twisting facts in her head because they were avoiding her and but she'd seen at least one other student catch one.
The next gnome got away as well.
