End of school at last, and the gossip in the halls was louder than ever. Jewels decided she didn't much feel like rushing home, instead she felt like a nice warm drink and something sweet to ease her nerves. But Bridget had some sort of guy emergency, leaving the mole ghoul on her own as she entered the Coffin Bean. It was a good thing she didn't mind her own company.
She smiled shyly to the fiery ghoul at the till and placed her order, noting that the other ghoul working seemed distracted by her reflection in the hexpresso machine?

"I'll have a bluescarry muffin, and a hazelnut latte please." Tori said after Jewels had placed her order. She hadn't seen the ghoul before, but she looked familiar. Looking around at the small amount of people here was a little depressing.
"Wow small crowd today... Not just a few days ago was this place packed like flowers in a vase."
Tori hadn't notice Marcie talking to someone in the hexpresso machine.
"She's not nuts." She thumbed over to Marcie, "She's just talking to her friend."

"Well i've heard about loving your job.. but befriending the hexpresso machine?" Jewels quirked an eyebrow, she was half joking clearly. She smiled to Tori, she vaguely recognised the troll. "You're Bridget's... sort of not cousin right?" Her beast friend had a large circle of ghoul friends, but Jewels was never totally comfortable in a large crowd.
For this very reason she found the Coffin Bean rather pleasant tonight. No jostling for drinks, no struggling to find a seat. She rather liked the quiet nights, they let her hunker down in a booth all of her own and work on a little homework with a hot drink in one hand and a plate of rock cakes for snacking.
She smiled softly to Tori and extended a clawed hand. "Jewels."

"Hehe, that's Rorrim." She laughed at her joke a little, not really wanting to explain the mirror witch in the hexpresso machine so she just let it go.
"And If by cusin, you mean trol, like me? Then yes. Yes we are." She put a finge to her chin and ppnadered, ''Well to be honest, my intimidate family is so large, I'd guess my extended family is even bigger! We could be cousins and never even know! Hahaahaa!"
"Hi! I'm Tori." She shook her hand firmly with two pumps, just her her father taught her.
Just then their food slid their way with a perky smile from fairy monster. "Will that be for hear? We have plenty of seats! Hehe." the fairy giggles a little. "And that's a little strange for this time of year... Oh well! Where will you ghouls be sitting?"
Tori shrugged a little asking Jewels.
"Wanna sit for a little while?"

"Rory!" Marceline gasped, spilling foamed milk on the counter. She glanced sideways at the cafe, making sure no monster assumed she was talking to herself, but for privacy's sake... "Can you come down here and meet me in the back?" She quickly wiped up the mess she made when her iCoffin buzzed in her pocket...Dashner Hawke Um. Yes. It's where I belong, like you even care. "Speak'a the devil..." Marceline sighed, striding into the back room, where Rorrim was waiting for her. "Would 'acting really weird' include joining the circus??" She showed Rory her phone, and Dashner's hext message. "Ugh, this is all my fault... if I hadn't've yelled at him he wouldn'tve stormed off and...Jeepers..." She buried her face in her hand and sighed heavily, trying to hold back tears for the thousandth time this week.

"Sure!" She squeaked, then coughed and looked a little sheepish. "I mean.. sure, let's sit a while." Wow, smooth. She collected her cakes and drink and indicated a booth. "I've seen tombs livelier than this place."

"Yup it's deader then the morgue, and that's really saying something."
Tori slid in across from Jewels, taking a slip of her latte after a bite of her muffin.
"But I have to tell you. This is all due to that circus that's in town! A lot of my friends have run off to join, and trust me i get a free spirit better then anyone. But it's so strange that they all left so suddenly."
She looked up at her wondering if she was too new here to really understand what was happening was strange even for Salem.
"I mean, do you have any friends, who've run off?"

"So i've heard... " She sipped her own drink, looking a little awkward at the question. "I don't... really have many friends." She fell silent for a moment, she wasn't new to the school, she'd just never really had the courage to approach anyone. Bridget insisted she write a new scaremester resolution and Jewels had decided on but it wasn't as easy as just writing it down in a diary. All those cliques, all the little groups of close friends, it was intimidating to the small mole ghoul.
"What do you think the attraction is? O.. of the circus." she tried to change the subject.

Tori was feeling a little awkward as well. She didn't know just how shy she was, and that she'd really was not new just shy. She wanted to hold her hand and say, 'i'll be your friend!' Then she thought this through a little realizing it wouldn't help the moment.
If they became friends, if would be due to actions not words. So she tried to stay on subject.
"I'm not really sure. It's really not my thing, but i'm guessing fame and fortune?" Tori shrugged.
"All I know is that what ever's happening there, we'll probably find out once it opens."

Jewels shook her head. "All those bright lights... " She tapped her tinted lenses. "I'd sooner be able to see than have fame or fortune." Still, she frowned. "Even so... it's not exactly the modern surefire way to stardom is it? The circus? it's so... archaic. I even heard one of the students left to become a... freak?" She whispered the last word. "I don't like it... it's suspicious." maybe Bridget's paranoia was rubbing off on her, her mind was swirling with conspiracy theories. Curses, she was supposed to be far more grounded than this. She mentally scolded herself for such flights of fantasy.

Char-lene "Yeah, the truant officer came in and took him back to school... didn't look like the usual one that stalks around here, though... must've hired someone new... some fat old haggy-looking one..." Hellene, perching unobtrusively on a stool at the end of the counter, adjusted her over-sized Gorey Hurt sunglasses. She wasn't exactly in disguise to much as in traditional I'm-not-even-here glamorous spy garb. She wasn't sure why over-sized sunglasses and a very white long coat made one invisible and yet glamorous, but it worked every time.
Fat? Old? Haggy? It sounded familiar. She pulled out her 4 photos from the circus. There, in the photo of Nero, was a normie arguing with an undeniably fat, old and haggy witch. She was practically oozing these qualities in much the same way her body was trying to ooze out of her dress. Could it be? She had to be sure." psssssssst." Char-lene remained at the register." PSSSSsssssSSST" Hellene hissed louder.Char-lene rolled her eyes over to Hellene." Yes?" " Could I get a refill on this coffinchino and maybe an extra dash of chocolate on top and by the way does this haggy witch in the photo look familiar?" Char-lene slid Hellene's order down to her and glanced at the photo." No, sh- wait. Yeah, that's the truant officer who took the chicken away. Ugly thing ain't she?" " Yes, thank you. Ummmm...better make that to go." Hellene starred at the photo. Other monsters must have seen her. But who was she to Monster High? What did she want with the students? She resolved to show the picture around, beginning with where this conspirscary started: Lin.

Marceline LaGhede "Ugh, this is all my fault... if I hadn't've yelled at him he wouldn'tve stormed off and...Jeepers..." She buried her face in her hand and sighed heavily, trying to hold back tears for the thousandth time this week. "Gosh...." Rory hesitated, and then put an arm around Marceline's shoulder, giving her a coordinated, very-safe-fragile side-hug. "I didn't realize that was why he was so....weirdzo. I mean, one second he was ranting, the next he was almost crying, and the next I thought he was going to eat me alive."Rory looked at Marceline with his hand still around her shoulder...paused...and awkwardly removed it."Er. Sorry. You just seemed, I mean, it felt like maybe, I mean....never mind." There was a long silence as Rory tried to think of what to say next. He felt like somehow a lot of this was his fault."My mother is down on my friends and I think she'd say this was an example of why I shouldn't hang out with you guys, but I think she's wrong. There has to be a way for us to mend this, a way to make things right again!"Rory had a sinking feeling. Everyone knew that a mended mirror never looked the same afterward. He was unliving proof of that. But friendships had to be different. They just had to! There was something that he could do to make this right, wasn't there? Suddenly, grimspiration hit him."I know! There's a mirror in the circus! Only one, but, what if I went there right now and talked to Dashner? Maybe I could arrange for all of us to meet somewhere and crash this out?"

"No, um... I mean, it's okay... I..." Marceline's face flushed as Rory removed his arm from her shoulders, feeling a pang of disappointment. She squirmed awkwardly, leaning her back against a stack of the coffee shipment, as Rory pressed into the matter of getting Dashner back to his old self.
"I know! There's a mirror in the circus! Only one, but, what if I went there right now and talked to Dashner? Maybe I could arrange for all of us to meet somewhere and crash this out?"
Marceline's eyes widened, and she excitedly grabbed Rory's hands. "Oh my ghoul, that'd be perfect! We could sit down and talk this out and clear up all this bad mojo between the three of us and --" She paused when she saw Rory's face had taken a turn for the awkward, and she realized she was still grasping his hands; she released them, shoving her own into the pockets of her apron and staring intently at the flavor syrups. "I uh, I mean to say... This could work, Rory. Are you sure you're up to it?"

"Of course!" Rory didn't even hesitate, for once. "You guys are, well, you're my friends! I'd do anything for you. Honest. I would."
Another long, awkward silence. Rory cleared his throat.
"Uh-HEM, so, I guess I should be going, then. Okay?"

Marceline nodded. "Okay."
There was another moment of awkward silence, and suddenly Marceline felt a swell of fear rising in her. She had a very bad feeling about this circus, deep in her bones; and while she felt responsible for Dashner running off to it, she sensed it wasn't fully in his will to do it. She'd lost one beast friend, and now the other was going into the lion's den after him. Impulsively, she threw her arms around Rory and gave him a big hug, taking care not to squeeze him too tightly.
"Just... be careful, okay?" She asserted.
