crystal_moon098 do foreigners really think Americans are obsessed with money?? well...most of them are...So-so. Maybe obsessed isn't the right word for it, but maybe overly occupied with money seems more like my biased impression. However, this is something everyone does, so I'm not going to blame you. ; )

There aren't very many actual items that could possibly be considered American food. This is probably because America is still a young country, and people from all over the place immigrated there. Then, they brought their own traditional foods.

I'm American and I absolutely love most aspects of this country. We aren't all obsessed with money, we're not all fat, we are generally pretty nice people and most of us are willing to learn about foreign cultures due to the recent obsessions with anything foreign (( particularly, Asia and Africa)). I love all American accents/dialects and I love how diverse we are.
However, there are some things that piss me off. Like racism. In the south racism against blacks is still very noticable and hispanics are often treated like scum. I hate hearing my friends tell me about how they heard a group of people call a man a terrorist and wife beater because his wife and daughter wear a hijab. I hate the fact that when I'm in a store, the store owners often look at me in cruel anticipation because I have dark skin and my friend who's pale with blonde hair and blue eyes is treated with the utmost respect (( in the south)). I hate how young men think I'm sexually promiscuous (( probably spelled that wrong)) because I'm colored and when my white friends come up they respect them.
I live in Hawai'i and it seems the complete opposite. White people are treated like crap and are often insulted straight in their face and called sluts and power hungry beasts because they look different. They are often told to go back to the mainland and leave us alone.
The racists are a minority but still noticable.
I love America very much, I may disagree with the government but I love this country. However, I want to move out to maybe Canada, Australia, Libya or a Gulf state (( Kuwait, Bahrain, UAW, Oman etc))

However, I want to move out to maybe Canada, Australia, Libya or a Gulf state (( Kuwait, Bahrain, UAW, Oman etc)) You should visit my state Utah.....we wear *figurative* masks of kindness but in reality we are the most closed-minded people in the U.S. Many of us (like me) hate southern accents and there are people who have them but in more isolated areas. The mormons unlike other religions try so hard to get you in why their religion by any means necessary......for ex. when you nicely tell them no, they push it in your face. Many of friends had to say they were "Satanists" just so they would leave them alone. I'm NOT BASHING the mormons because that would be pointless. Don't take any offense if you're mormon because I know quite a few who aren't like what i'm describing. When I was younger if you weren't mormon you were OSTRACIZED by the kids who were. (Don't get me started on what they'll say if you're part of a different religion) Before I get ugly let me say this " IF WE DON'T WANT TO MORMON ,DON'T PUSH IT!!!!!!!!!!" stressed ............................one more thing................................................. Some people think a certain side of the state/country is better than the other. When it's just lower and higher income. OMG! Stupid people! I would rather live in a different country and if I can't do that I would be happy in Minnesota (I heard there was a Danish/Scandinavian speaking community up there), New york, or California (I have family there) [/Rant]

I have never lived or even visited a place where people didn't tell me where the "good" and "bad" parts of the area are, where high- and low-income areas do not get along, or where some group of people doesn't go to obnoxious lengths to convince you of something.

In English class we watched this movie called "American History X". It was clearly about racism in America and it was very good. Now I have a question for anyone who has seen it; is it really like that in America? Are there people claiming that black people have criminal genes? Do some racist people really destroy stores owned by non-white people? To me it's all madness! It's so childish... Grow up, racists! No one wants you the way you are.
I hope I'm not overly offensive or anything, that was not my intention. But I got very angry when I saw the movie, so I had to take it out by perhaps discuss the movie with others.
Oh yeah, I'm thinking about moving to America in a year after graduation and study. Preferably on the West coast, like Seattle (or Vancouver) or somewhere in California. smile Do they have good universities there?

I actually own that movie on DVD! Very good film. Sadly, the movie is based on the actual situation of racism in America. There really is a considerably large white supremacy movement here, it's just that they're a minority of the population as a whole and Americans generally don't like to admit that our country has a problem with racism, and so unfortunately people tend to just ignore it and let it happen. It's definitely nothing to ignore, though. I actually just saw a documentary recently about white power skinheads, and it's just scary to see how devoted and set in their ways they are about white supremacy. It's on youtube in five parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FnqA3lUL9E
