Would the trainer really have something to do with the gladiator winning? If these are two separate characters their interactions would only be outside of the ring. Unless there are some bonuses or stats or some special perks attached to having a trainer. I can't see putting a limit on the gladiator time in the ring because of them winning. I can see a limit in general because it is just a mini game.

Maybe ic the trainer title is something a elite gives out as a job so to delegate task and way of earning currency if their is a currency system in place. If this is going off the roman way then there would be a owner of a house for gladiators, than a trainer, the actual gladiators, then slaves.

With that their could be two types of gladiators under a trainer/house and they could wear a symbol or something to show their allegiances. The second being free fighters that could be seen more in the underground fighting or in the right whichever.

For the quest cut off would there be a warning beforehand or a grace period after? Some could feel rushed if they are told they only have four months to bring a quest from creation to approval. With life and what not. If so the person who ends up needing the grace period could be put on probation or something just to see if they are going to really stick with said character.

@ certs it depends on the actual size and art going onto them. I could see first stages with just name, player, and gender. That is if the first stage is newcomer only and people already in the city starting at second then the second stage would put the pathway and stage. Possible little things at the bottom (or however the cert is set up) showing growth a symbol of gained abilities, status (like purely mundane gets a bored or plain face little expression or something) the tattoo(a hint at what they will become If the character is a premade), house symbol (for gladiators and slaves), uh followers mark of the god they follow, and so on and so forth.

The symbols can also be made by the players to show the mark of their business if their business gains map status. Or family crest for the elites/high borne, houses, gods, schools etc, etc.
