Alexis sighed, amused at her giggling and actually enjoying it though he didn't say so out loud. "Yeah, and you have a beautiful laugh," he said and dove beneath the water before Aoi could see him blushing.

Aoi was still giggling at how Alexis had yelped as she awaited an answer from him. And when she heard him agreeing that they could go see the place he had found she smiled. The second half of Alexis' statement made her stop giggling for a moment, though she giggled even more, all while blushing and nibbling her bottom lip. She dove into the water after Alexis and she gave a squeal of her own when her skin touched the water that was considerably cooler than the water she had just been soaking in. "This is so cold compared to that hot spring." she said, shivering slightly and thinking of how this water was the temperature that she normally swam in.{{ooc:}}

Alexis tilted his head as Aoi squealed, not having the mask on meant he couldn't speak to her, but he agreed with her fully. He started swimming quickly, partially forgetting about the mask at his hip in the process.

Shivering in the cooler water Aoi started swimming to get used to it again. She saw that Alexis did not have his mask on and she wondered if he was going to put it on. She mentioned it, though figured that he'd obviously know that it wasn't on. She was looking around as she swam, letting her eyes take in every detail because she wanted to be sure she knew her way around in case she wanted to go exploring on her own.{{ooc:}}

Alexis looked back when Aoi mentioned the mask, dipping a bit in his passage to evade the dipping roof. He looked back just in time to run into a stalactite squarely between the eyes, stunning him; the mask came dislodged as he went to grab for it and sank. It went over his nose and mouth and edged around his chin and throat, hooking just behind his ears where it would stay. Streams of bubbles came out of his mouth and nose, though unnoticed, a couple of narrower streams of bubbles came out through his hair. He did not know that he had the ability to breathe underwater through tiny gills slightly larger than the pores of his skin located from the base of his skull all the way to his shoulder blades since his hair covered them.

Aoi kept swimming along as she watched to make sure that Alexis would get his mask on. She saw that he was heading right for a stalactite as he went to grab his mask and she tried to warn him, though she was a little too late and she watched as he ran face first right into it. She cringed and she apologized for not warning him, though she doubted that she could have said anything in time. When she saw him get the mask on she watched all the bubbles floating upwards, very distracted by them. "So, which way to that place you said about?" she asked as she snapped her attention away from the bubbles and back to Alexis.
There had been things out by the islands that she had seen and she wanted to show him, though she figured that he knew most of the area around Gin Iruka, so she did not even bring them up. Although she thought about telling him of the small boat that she had found at the bottom of a fairly small trench. She had seen something glimmering from the boat, though due to the sharks she was reluctant to go anywhere near said boat. "Oh, would you like to see something that I found later? It was a really small boat and there looked like there was something shiny. Though we'd have to watch out for sharks... They almost seemed to be guarding whatever was in that boat." she said as she did a backwards somersault in the water.{{ooc:}}

Alexis winced as he shook his head a few times, blinking as he heard Aoi's words. He unconsciously inhaled, not realizing he did not wear the mask, before he spoke surprisingly clearly. "There's a tunnel a few feet ahead and to the right; it leads to an opening that opens above the gorge. To the untrained eye it looks like a normal rock, but I found it's actually a natural hatch that opens, and I'd like seeing that boat... it's possible I might recognize something on it," he said as he exhaled, not seeing the subtle, nearly invisible trails of shifting water behind his neck and hair. He blinked, rubbing his head as he looked down, noticing the mask. He paused after a moment, realizing that he was breathing just as if he wore the mask.... yet he wasn't drowning.

Aoi fully turned her head towards Alexis as she heard him speaking and then that was when she realised that he hadn't actually gotten the maks on. She had thought that he had and maybe she had been slightly ddaydreaming, which she did a lot and sometimes thought things had happened that in reality had not actually occured. "I... you... your mask... But I thought it was on..." she stammered, afraid that he would drown or something, then scolded herself aloud about daydreaming and thinking that she had seen his mask on.
She looked down and then dove right under where Alexis had bumped into that stalactite. She did not realize that he was fully all right with out it on, before frantically for the mask, thinking that she was wasting precious time to get the mask for him. She had given a scattered reply to him, not fully paying mind to how clearly he spoke. "All right... gotta find that mask for you.... and I'll take you to the boat..." she suddenly froze and looked to Alexis as she registered how clearly he was talking. "Wait... You can talk without the mask...?" she asked in a confused tone as she floated in the water.{{ooc:}}

Alexis saw her confusion and wasn't all that surprised. "Honestly, I have no idea how I'm not drowning at the moment," he sighed, narrow trails of bubbles escaping beneath his hair as he did so, though he didn't notice it. He shifted so that he was inverted, watching Aoi. "It's a few feet to your left," he said with mild amusement, rubbing the back of his neck before he paused, feeling the skin shifting ever so slightly. It reminded him of only one thing and he unconsciously voiced it in one simple word laced with surprise. "Gills?" he said softly, his fingers shifting with feather light touches over the back of his neck as he inhaled, feeling the skin shift slightly before he noticed slight pressure as he felt the water push against his fingers, confirming his suspicions.

Aoi listened to Alexis and her confusion grew. She thought that humans would drown if they were in the water too long and she thought once again of the mask that had fallen. And as she heard Alexis saying that it was a few feet to her left, Aoi looked down at it and swam to it, grabbing it and taking it back to Alexis just in time to hear him say 'gills' and the confusion she felt before was nothing compared to what she was feeling right now. "What now...? You said something about gills...? You mean fish right...? You couldn't... I mean humans don't have gills... do they?" Her head was spinning from confusion, yet there was also some excitement there too as she thought of meeting someone that could breathe underwater, yet wasn't a fish or a merperson. 'What are the odds?' she thought to herself excitedly.{{ooc:}}

Alexis cocked his head. "Not that I know of, though there are some comic books that have characters with the ability to breathe underwater... though I never imagined I would be one of them," he said, half joking at the end as he took back the mask. "In the case of most of those characters, they almost always have what is assumed to be 'Atlantean' blood in them... though I don't know if there really was an Atlantis or not, and most scientists claim it is nothing more than a fairy tale," he said with a shrug; he wasn't sure if Aoi would know or not if Atlantis or something similar to it existed or if it had ever existed. He was still inverted in the water and deliberately shifted so his back was to her. "Feel the water just above the back of my neck..." he said as he inhaled.

Aoi listened with a grin on her face. She thought about how much she could show Alexis if he really did have gills, though she was still confused about how he had missed such an ability until that very moment. "So, there are made up people that have powers like that? And you're saying that these scientists are saying that Atlantis never existed? I'm guessing they don't think that I'm real, well the whole race of merfolk, are not real or something? I mean that may explain why they haven't ever found us... Although they may not be looking for us when they come into the water." she said.{{ooc: I heard that there is supposed to be some sort of tornado/storm warning, so I may get going early since I don't want to have the computer on in that. >.> Plus I'm not actually using my own computer. _Hoshiyuri_ OOC - I understand, so it doesn't bother me any. I do know what you mean, though. Alexis shrugged. "Yeah, though as for Atlantis, they haven't found any 'concrete' proof of it like relics or such, so they assume it's some wild tale.. and I'm not sure what most of them think about merfolk. I'm not surprised you exist, so it doesn't bother me," he said with a shrug, his hair hanging down towards the bottom of the tunnel as he deliberately covered his mouth and nose and exhaled, not realizing that narrow streamers of bubbles and faint swirls of water came from the back of his neck as he did so.
The reason he didn't know he had gills, even if they blended almost seamlessly with his skin, was because when his mother got sick, he rarely if ever got to see her and after she passed away he hadn't stayed long at home after that because when his father came home drunk... he was far from friendly.

Aoi tilted her head before speaking, "I don't know if my father knows much about Atlantis, though he used to tell me stories about it when I was really little and most stories are true, well not always, though for the most part they are. But I couldn't even ask father if the stories were true because of my having to keep scarce and not be caught... I can't even send dolphins or anything to go speaking to him for fear of someone finding where the dolphins came from..." She was glad that Alexis wasn't surprised by her being real and was very thankful that it was he that she had run into and not someone else that could have potentially harmed her. "I will try to gather information about Atlantis if you really want to find out about it, hough we'll have to keep low about it, since if my name gets out at all I'm so going to be in a lot of trouble or worse... Since I think that there may even be some shark merfolk after me... due to me having a high price on my head apparently and the fact that they love money..." she added before waiting patiently for Alexis to lead the way to this place he had discovered.{{ooc:}}

Alexis nodded slightly. "That would be helpful, though at the moment, I think we should focus on what we can do here, like finding that ship you mentioned... which could be close with the other tunnel," he said with a smile as he swam ahead, then swerved upward and to his right into a forking tunnel that led upward; it corkscrewed a few times before straightening out into an opening that went straight vertically.
