Thrarothar
Dragons hatched, then walked off with their new riders. Except that silly green balancing on one of the eggs. He wondered if the egg would hatch with her still on top of it. Hopefully it’d be something other than a green or blue. He narrowed his eyes. Was that? Yes the Kind and Keen egg was hatching. And it was just another green. Thrarothar was disappointed. A voice that wasn’t his made itself heard and he jerked.

His eyes meeting those of the green still among the eggs. No. Oh no. There had to be a brown or something hatched that’d called to him. He looked around frantically for a second but knew he’d not see a brown or bronze waiting for him. He met the eyes of the green again. A bigger egg? You won’t be needing an egg anymore my dear. The older teen arched his brow. She wanted to race? Alright, ready set go! Thrarothar spun around on his dune and ran as fast as he could toward the feeding tables.

Her eyes lit up when Hers agreed. Bumilth lowered her forequarters and waited for the go. Soon as he said it, the green gave a trill of delight and bounded through the clutch. At the last still whole egg she jumped up on top and bounced off. She raced across the sands as fast as her little legs could go. Candidates needed to get out of her way or be bowled over. Bumilth skidded to a halt, laughing, in front of the tables.

You won Mine! Now you have to feed me. Hello siblings of mine. She looked at those already there while she waited for Hers to get a bucket of meat.

Thrarothar came to a stop just moments before the young green. He did his best to remove the grin from his face. He had won, but some prize. The young man snorted as Bumilth relayed what he could do now. Dutifully he went and picked a full bucket; bringing it back to the tired green, he knelt down and put a small piece in her mouth. “Chew it well.”

Oh! that green finally got off the egg, though seemingly not of her own volition. She'd eyed the newly Impressed boy with his blue tended to by Bereck, it hadn't seemed too bad so she hadn't gone over, instead watching the clutch... she realised while she'd been watching Bereck, she'd missed another Green hatching.. OH! the playful Green that had been on the egg had Impressed, again to a boy. In the back of her mind she wondered if perhaps the damp conditions meant that ALL the greens and Blues would go to boys. Becka gave a mental shrug and turned her attention to the rest of the Hatching.

Suunath had been sitting in a prominent place on the Sands, not as prominent as Cepheith of course but enough that she and Kindra maintained a certain.. presence. That and Kindra wanted to support her friend, she knew how worried Narisa had been about the eggs. Suunath just as concerned had helped the other Gold by trying to help dry the sands.

When Moriath's voice called she lifted her head away from watching the hatching eggs, her eyes whirling gently green/blue, content. "They are good hatchlings, strong and decisive despite the state of the Sands, Cepheith did well" she said proudly, including Moriath and Cepheith in her words, as well as any nearby dragon that cared to listen. The older Gold was also Suunath's friend, they shared a Weyr as their riders shared Quarters so they two Golds were bound to become close.

Ildresaak smiled a little bit at Kaeyne's wryness, and his attention returned to the Sands briefly. One of the greens had Impressed, but - oh! The little yellow egg had hatched? Into a green, who was apparently getting her bearings from the ground. His smile curved up even more as he looked at her. That egg had been one of the few he had really liked.

But the more pressing issue was that bright, noisy blue on the Sands, walking among the Candidates. He clearly wanted all eyes on him, and Ildresaak realized he was closer than he would have preferred. Still, he stayed...more or less still. He didn't want to attract attention. Kaeyne was looking at him, he could feel it. But he braced himself against the gaze, didn't respond until Kaeyne spoke. "...yeah," he said quietly, looking back at his fellow Candidate. "I'm probably making more of a deal out of this than it deserves." He shrugged. "It's just...a little awkward to be here."

...What? What! Oh no he did not like this!

The Vibrant blue screamed and charged headlong towards Becka, all thoughts of ceremony pushed from his mind as she turned her attention to near all the unbonded dragons save himself.

He had been walking past the candidates to show himself to them, yes, but they were not his truest audience.

(Naanash and Vaail)

"Of course, if they do bite yah, don't pull away from them. You just get more ripped up," Vaail said mildly, rubbing his thumb and feeling the teeth marks left by his twins flit. "And keep the bity parts in front of you... am I missing anything?"

"The capacity to shut up," Naanash replied and nodded at Ildresaak and Kaeyne. "It probably be best if we distance ourselves from you." They wouldn't go too far but being tightly pack was dangerous. He gave a glare at his twin and spared a glance at the little blue before separating himself by a few yards. Just enough room if they have a other territorial bitter he could get out of the way without being mauled.

"Good luck!" Vaail replied, a tad loud and followed his twin to seperate themselves a bit. Distance was good and he put a few feet between himself and his sibling. Just in case.

"Well... that settled that problem." Vaail grinned watching the blue charge over to the healer table. "Screechy little thing."

As he completed his work on the newly Impressed blue rider, Bereck looked up again sharply as a scream scythed through the air. A dragon. An un-impressed dragon charging at Becka.

Bereck was a man of sense and logic, had been for fifty years. The exception to this appeared to be when apex predators were threatening people he cared for. Loved? It was a strong word and the reserved man was careful with his feelings but she was his apprentice and he would not see her hurt.

His thought process as he shoved himself violently to his feet and grabbed his cane was hardly so coherent. There was a thing with teeth and claws, and Becka was under his care. It would not stand. Running caused pain and he felt it deeply but protecting her was more important.

As he skidded to a halt in front of the girl and levelled his cane at the charging hatchling dragon Berath... did not roar. Why did she not roar?

PostPosted: Sun Apr 28, 2013 5:18 pm

Becka hadn't been paying attention to the showy Blue, she'd been looking at the Green, checking her over initially to see if she could see any obvious things 'wrong' with her due to the damp Sands. She jumped backwards just a little as a scream echoed across the sands and the Blue charged towards the Healers table... Oh no .. was he hurt? .. how did he know where to come.. oh shards he was coming right for her, had she done something to offend him somehow?.......Bereck was running oh no... that couldn't be go.....

Oh well that wasn't anything like when Berath talked to her... not at all. "I..i will" The feeling hit her next and almost took her breath away, her legs wobbled a little but she didn't fall to her knees. She was almost scared to touch him, could scarcely believe he was really there, it seemed like a wonderful dream. "Phasianth...." she couldn't gather her thoughts together right away as she whispered to the Blue.

She looked up at Bereck, tears shining in her eyes as she put a hand on his cane to lower it away from Phasianth. "He's not going to hurt me... His name is Phasianth" she said, her voice wobbly but strong as she told Bereck the name of her dragon ... HER Dragon.

He searched her memory for a second then blinked at Bereck he directed at Bereck, nudging at Becka's hip he told her, nudging her again, gently and with love. he added, walking towards the tables with his wings held high and outwards, showing himself off as he went leaving Becka to run a couple of steps to catch up with him, shooting a quick glance at Bereck, surprised that her Phasianth had spoke to him, but bot as surprised as she might have been because she was used to Berath talking to her all the time..... BERATH!... Becka frantically looked for her as she walked towards the feeding tables with her wonderful Blue, caught sight of her and waved wildly, almost shouting up to her but changing her mind, Cepheith might not mind her offspring shouting about but a Human, even Bonded, might upset her. She settled for a great big beam on her face and tears trickling down one cheek, She still loved Berath a whole lot but this feeling with Phasianth was like nothing she'd ever felt, she just HAD to show him off to her later.

Zarike

More dragons hatched and few if any looked his way. Zarike wasn't feeling discouraged yet though. There was still half a clutch left! He'd avoided getting hurt too which was a success in his mind. Each new cracked egg brought with it a new surge of excitement.

Whatever happened, he would be sleeping well tonight.

Cai

Cai shrugged and was silent for a while, watching the hatchlings herself for any signs of ill health. She wasn't an expert on dragons, but she'd dealt enough with Miath in the half turn she'd had her that she felt at least some confidence in her judgement. Wen was right though, they all looked healthy for now. She sighed and gave a tight. "I'm fine."

Within moments her brows shot up though and she have a short breath, almost laugh. "Looks like Becka was right." She'd never expected a blue for the young healer though. Cai hadn't thought much about it but always figured if she Impressed, it would be green. Maybe it was her Benden upbringing. Still she couldn't be unhappy for Becka. Bereck on the other hand brought a surprising sense of worry up in her chest as he struggled to prevent the expected attack.

Wen

"You glared that young man right out of his seat," Wen replied, blunt and slightly coaxing and watched the next few impressing in interest. A blue then a green, and then ooh. He gave a soft snort, watching the blue charge and didn't jump, noticing the impression. "A friend of ooh, what is he doing?" Wen frowned concern not for the hatching but for the healer struggling to his feet.

Jemi
Jemi hummed, surprised. "Not the smartest move there. Getting in a baby dragon's way with a cripple leg. Brave though." She looked over at Wen's red headed healer friend. "Friend of yours?" She questioned.

[Shenja and Kalteth]

An Eating race?! That sounded great!

No, it didn't, now that she thought about it.
"That... No..." Shenja looked at his new dragon, startled, "Don't do that." he handed her another piece of meat.
Kalteth didn't understand! Why didn't Poth want to race her? Hatching wasn't tiring, it was great, right? Look! Look! There was so much to explore already and they had only just started! Kalteth was a bit put out.
"It's okay, I'll race you."
Kalteth perked up and gave Hers a nuzzle.
"Yep!" It would be fun to race, though with the buzz he was feeling anything would be fun!
she cheered, accepting another piece of meat.
Shenja turned back to Tacelon. "So how are you feeling, eh?" he was feeling great! He was sure this was the most wonderful moment of his life.
He could imagine all of the adventures they would have together, he and Kalteth. In truth though, he knew he couldn't imagine all of them. Adventures surprised like that.
Didn't matter. All the kid knew or cared about was that the future just seemed brighter and brighter the more he thought about it, and he hadn't exactly been a pessimist before.

Ooo! Kalteth was momentarily distracted by her light green-blazed sister coming towards them.
Her tail lashed delightedly at the prospect.

her attention was quickly caught by her attention-grabbing brother, she broadcast cheerfully, delighted at the prospect.

Shenja didn't think it was a bad idea, personally, and clearly hatchlings could run, but he had a niggling feeling that he should be careful. Or should he? He felt so giddy and hyped up.

[Rochelle]

"You're an absolutely horrible harper, with your big words," Rochelle all but cooed the words, going so far as to reach up to pinch his cheek when there was that screech. She jumped and looked back to the Sands to see... Bereck and the little shaffing healer they had just been speaking about. A blue. A loud blue. A neon colored loud blue.

And she started to laugh, flopping further against C'tis. It died into snickers quickly enough, her head shaking. "There'll be no living with her now! Shards."

-----

[Kaeyne]

Kaeyne flinched with the shriek, narrowed dark eyes on the pesky blue. Luckily it charged the Healers table, a girl there. A rather mangled looking healer leaped up - too old to Impress - and then a small girl stepped up.

Huh.

Well.

He assumed those were tears of joy. He crossed his arms. Ildresaak had a good point, the awkward air to the while Hatching of those that didn't quite... fit. The Weaver eyed the dragon on the Sands, their possible futures. "It's your life we're discussing," Kaeyne said at length. "You aren't making too big of a deal. I agree. The dresses are weird."

He kicked at the Sands, watching the grains as they scattered. "Anyone that feels less than awkward on what may be the edge of their life shouldn't be here."

[Diedre]

Diedre relaxed a bit, shifting a little on the sands as her feet tired of standing stiffly.
She didn't know why she had been worried. Aside from some clawing on the boy's side, this was very mauling free. She'd heard about worse, with dead candidates, and she didn't have to worry about Shenja.
Shenja...She looked over at him and couldn't help but smile. He looked so... happy. And of course he was already talking up people. Hopefully he wouldn't somehow get himself into trouble while she was standing out here in the sands.
She also couldn't help feeling a little jealous. He had impressed, and she had not? He hadn't even wanted to stand! He was just there for her...
She pushed the nasty little thought away.
No.
She was happy for him, and there were still eggs left. She looked around and realized something unnerving. These other candidates were strangers. She didn't know any of them. None of the girls, and none of the boys. The only candidate she knew was her own brother, over there with his own dragon.
It suddenly hit her how alone she was, really, on the sands and found herself wishing that the caravan would return soon. She missed them already, her extended family. She wished, actually, that they hadn't left. That they were there to see at least Shenja.
But they weren't there. For a moment, she tried to pretend, looking into the stands, and for a moment she thought she saw their father. But no, it was some other man. She looked back at Shenja and allowed herself one somewhat sad sigh before stuffing everything away into a little mental box and standing up straight and tall again. There was still a hatching. She could think about all the things attached to it later. When she wouldn't cry in front of hatchlings, dragons, and strangers. Appearances must be kept up, for tradition's sake.

Cai

Cai shrugged and rolled her eyes. "He needed to move." Was her only explanation for that.

"That's Masterhealer Bereck, Berath is his dragon. The girl who just Impressed is Becka, one of his apprentices. Aleck is his son... He Impressed Belcarrath in the same clutch we did. He hangs out with Rochelle and C'tis." Cai explained, watching Bereck and Becka carefully. Cai still was awkward around that group. Sometimes she felt she could be around them... maybe even enjoy their presence. At other times her stomach turned just thinking about them. She respected Bereck though, and liked Berath the most out of all of them.

Really, of all the people she'd gotten to know, the only person she was near consistently comfortable around was Wen. It was strange and she didn't like to think on it too much. If asked, she just chalked it up to Miath being infatuated with Rynsemth.

Kharmeen was pleased as more shells cracked. A robust looking green, all roly poly hatched out and was not long in finding a boy he remembered standing with last time. Good for him! Another blue and green were wandering the sands, looking everyone over. A good idea to take your time, after all... You were going to be together for the rest of your lives.

And then the bright blue went to a girl near the healers. He was easily spotted all over, a clever pattwen. Mentally, Kharmeen cheered for her. This blue seemed like he would be fun.
