Jerry shrank back, looking like he was ready to crawl out of his skin and through a window and possibly up a tree. Instead, he nearly whispered in a weak voice, "W-what about my guitar?"

Rep gave the officer a wave as he opened the door, and a bright grin.

"That sounds wonderful." Candace sighed, rubbing her temple and reaching a hand out toward Harrison. "I'll cover Jerry, and I can help with Melvin and Rep if you need." It would push her renovation plans back done but..ugh. Note to self, never put poor Molly through this. "Let me see, I'll give you my share."
Jerry said something about his guitar. What..he brought that?! What the hell, Jerry! "I'm sure they'll let you collect your stuff before you leave, Jerr."

When the door was opened, Melvin left with the sort of relief that came from being on a hot bus full of crazy homeless people and stepping out into the fresh air and a open sidewalk.
"I'll pay you back when we get back on the island." He told Candace or whoever was picking up his tab. He wasn't about to be in someone's debt that much after all.

Harrison pulled the hood of his jacket up grouchily.
"If you could," he told Candace. "We oughta charge interest."
When he got a receipt back, it was with a distinct air of gloom.

Jordan remained silent as belongings were sorted out and returned, and on the walk back to the portal. He held himself tightly contained all the way back, his shoulders tense and his movements sharp and jerky. Anyone who was awake enough and paying attention could probably tell that he was distinctly unhappy.
He waited until they'd made it back to the island and out of the portal room to round on the delinquents, turning sharply to block their path with a thunderous scowl. "Do you have any idea how monumentally stupid and ill-considered that s**t was?" he demanded of Rep and Melvin, aiming a glare in Jerry's direction as well.

"I h-had nothing to do with it!" Jerry squeaked. He had spent most of the march home in a gloomy, somber silence.

Rep was pleased to have his belongings back, as he gathered up the collection of odds and ends, mints, flint and tinder, rations and hot chocolate sachets he got a very odd look from the officer on duty and a comment about how the man had never seen someone with so much s**t in their pockets, or for that matter, so many pockets. Evidently they'd found his extra hiding spots sewn into his trousers, you could never be too prepared. He kindly let him keep the ruined t-shirt.
Harrison as he passed got a silly grin, after all Rep was sort of proud about doing something with so much bravado and manliness, it was like old times. He took the grumpy look and hood simply to be because it was early - he had no idea how much bail had cost - no one ever bailed him out in the past. It was nice to have friends.
Jordan's tension too went all but unnoticed by Rep as they returned, sure he was grumpy, but so was everyone when you compared them to the sheer satisfaction of a good night out and a morning of exciting times in a jail cell. Other people's misery was like a stepladder he could climb up to look out of the window on a sunny day.
When he was rounded on, he stopped in his tracks, looking put upon. He rolled his eyes. "It was just a bar fight silly, we didn't kill anyone."

The young recently awakened hunter had been up already, he still hasn't gotten the hang of settling down to full nights of sleep. Especially with such an exciting place full of exciting things. He was trying to figure out where they might keep the golems when he suddenly heard distant whispers around the corner. He kept his distance for now, simply pressing his chest into the wall and craning his neck to peer around it at the group returning from their adventure.

"Just a bar fight," Jordan said flatly. "You didn't kill anyone, but you sure as hell broke a lot of s**t and racked up a lot of charges. Did you put any thought into the fact that it's really goddamn dangerous to be fighting with civilians? Especially drunk, when you're not in full control of your faculties? You break stuff by accident, dude, just using it sometimes, it's way too easy to forget your own strength, and if you forgot to pull your punches on another human, what the hell do you think we'd do then?" He exhaled a hiss of air between his teeth. "You get your a** into enough trouble here without going halfway around the world off-island to do it. And that's another thing," he growled, his volume rising as he continued. "You had to go there? Out of every city with bars in the world, you go there? Somewhere where you're risking being recognized? All it takes is a look, you're not exactly non-descript and anonymous, you idiot!"
He uncurled his hand from the fist it had clenched into, flexed his fingers deliberately. "You make the fantastic ******** decision to take a nice jaunt home, you get in a goddamn brawl and get thrown into jail, you have the nerve to haul us out of bed to come retrieve your sorry a** and you're going to act like this was all just a fun little adventure? Your fun little goddamn adventure has cleared out the bank account. There's four months saving, straight down the drain. Good job! Still having fun?"
His eyes flicked to Melvin. "I thought you had more sense than to get yourself involved in a bar brawl, at least, dude. He said it was your fault - " Jordan jerked his chin at Rep, " - but only to me, so I don't know if he's just trying to shift blame or if that's actually true. Usually I'd be inclined to suspect the former without further evidence, but after that s**t you pulled the other day when you were sober, I give it more credence. Harass the wrong person this time? Ask a few too many questions and get punched? I'd like to say that'd be a total surprise, but I <******** can't because it wouldn't be." He gave Melvin a narrow-eyed, furious look. "You got lucky, though. Provoke one of us into punching you for being a smug, secretive, nosy a*****e, and it'll actually hurt. Normal humans, not so much."
Jerry got a long look. "Yeah," Jordan said. "You had nothing to do with it. I can't believe you'd go off to a bar with these guys." A flicker of conflicting expressions, anger and disappointment and something else more like hurt.
He turned his attention back to Rep. "Oh, yeah. It's a good thing you told us where you were going last night - oh, wait! You totally didn't! That was a lovely little completely uninformative note you left! I'll revise - it's a good thing your phones have tracking signals and the portal tech could give us the coordinates your little party went to. Great planning, great choices, great handling of the whole ******** situation. I need a ******** shower and a cup of coffee. Go get changed. You're filthy." He paused and gave Rep a brief, cold stare. "I'll see you later, a*****e, and it had better be later, because right now you're pissing me off just by being in my line of sight."
He swung around and stalked off towards the cafeteria. Harrison got a brief, apologetic look and a brush of fingers across his shoulder as Jordan left.

Rep was about to give Jordan the same confident sass that he'd been giving most people all morning, but the smirk on his face very slowly died off as he realised that he wasn't kidding. He'd been hoping it was flirtiness disguised as hostility, that deep down the other man was impressed by his manly bravado the way his friends back home used to be. That wasn't the case.
He closed his mouth and let the argument in his defence die on his lips, taking on a decidedly glazed and distant look, a reaction he'd learned and practised throughout his life surprisingly well. He'd learned people didn't like you smiling when they scolded you, or looking confused - blank was the best solution. He'd wanted to go home, it had simply seemed like the best idea, he hadn't considered the risks - as always - he hadn't considered very much at all. He did narrow his eyes slightly though at the comment that he wasn't nondescript and anonymous, taking it to mean that he was loud and strange.
It was his turn to clench his fists as Jordan's words continued to cut deep, hearing in his own Rep way that it was resented that he'd chosen to ask them to help him and that the money was more important. Guilt mingled with hurt and anger as the text was brought up but he didn't so much as defend himself, just letting Jordan say what he had to, turning his irritation on Melvin too.
As he turned to leave, Rep was still speechless and wide eyed, but it didn't take long for the hurt and vulnerability to condense into cold, raw fury, everything Jordan had said was true, he'd been stupid and ignorant and likely hurt both of them by it.
But that didn't change his fury at having his pride torn down in front of a group of spectators, outrage overtaking everything else. It was too easy to let it. All that mattered was recovering his pride, recovering his standing. He yelled after the other sun hunter in a vicious snarl.
"Sorry I ******** asked you anything."

Jerry squirmed in his skin at Jordan's glare, his expression trembling. "I... I DIDN'T! I wasn't at ANY bar! Jordan, w-wait!" That look on his best friend's face- he couldn't deal with it, he couldn't take the disappointment, the judging. He hadn't had a drop to drink in MONTHS and he was trying his best to keep it that way.

For most of the conversation, Melvin was just waiting for Jordan to finish his belittling of Rep, feeling the smug b*****d deserved it, and was ready to just head on back to his dorm and get a much needed shower and change of clothes. It was when Jordan turned on him that his eyes widened in surprise, and he was tempted to point at himself and go 'Who? Me?', but Jordan then clarified that yes, he was yelling at him.
HIM, of all people! He could take some of it that was actually true, but Jordan was now profiling him as if he knew anything about him. ONE conversation in the cafeteria and he seemed to think he had him pegged. The lecture was not something Melvin, who was on little sleep, already high strung due to being in a filthy cell, and irritable due to sharing it with two ********, wanted to hear.
He did not deserve that, and he would not let Jordan dump his lecture on him and walk off as if it was all fine and ******** dandy.
He was already following behind and this time he cut Jordan off. "What the ******** do you know about any of this?! You don't get to lecture me, Jordan. I'm not your little bed buddy. YOU talk to me barely ever so don't you go preaching to me for one minor case of bad ******** luck as if you knew how any of it happened. It's rather shitty for you to make assumptions and to peg me with someone as having the exact same temperament and lack of patience just because I'm friends with him. I'm not Rep, and I didn't pick a fight with anyone at that bar. I, like any god damn person on the island, went on leave to get away, and it just happened to turn into a s**t night. For someone who I've seen show a lot of dumb forgiveness for rather crazy and near fatal incidents from other hunters, one bar fight shouldn't put your little panties in such a twist."
He stepped closer. "And don't go thinking that just because I didn't hug every single person I talk to or stroke their crybaby feelings means I'm some sort of b*****d on a rampage to start s**t. I went for a drink because I've been on this island for a long time and for ONCE, I wanted to just have a drink. OTHER people started s**t with US. We didn't kill anyone. I don't even start fights on the island where it's allowed unless it's for training. Have you heard of ANY incident where I got into a fight for any damn reason?" He raised his hand, not even letting Jordan answer. "NO. I don't, so don't you dare ******** start profiling me."
And to mock his own little stunt, Melvin turned and started to walk away. "And I said I'd pay my own bail when we got back!"

"You certainly act enough like a b*****d," Jordan snapped back, angry and irritable enough not to bother with the usual tactful qualifiers. "How's that working for you?"
