Rep had set himself up just down the hall from the party, out of earshot of whatever bickering he'd started. Spotting Jordan he held up the bottle amicably. "Quiet out here. I'm just letting the trial in there blow over."

Jordan leaned against the wall beside Rep. "I don't know what Leon's problem is," he said. "You doing okay?"

Rep outright sidled over to slink an arm around Jordan's waist, leaning against him and inclining his head towards him. "Aye, I'm awright, I just wanted to get away from it. They are all ******** entitled to what they think. I just don't want to know it. I'm happy with my drink and my own company." he turned to plant a kiss on his neck reassuringly. "I'm no sulking."

Marcus had come to commandeer some booze. Hey, if you just left it out thee? Snooze you loose.
Now he was just watching the fireworks.
At least the year was starting to go in and out with a bang.

Jordan smiled and relaxed against Rep, relieved. "That's what I wanted to make sure of," he said. "It'll die down in a bit. I swear, parties around here."

"I know right." he said with a smirk. "It wouldn't be a party without a big rammy of an argument as standard." He drummed the fingers of his free hand against Jordan's chest. "Though I guess like, that's what happens when you live with your co-workers all the time. Every party is an office party."

"Well, i'm glad to ring in the new year and get it all of my chest then." Leon retorted back dryly, the cup was forgotten. Ale was already growing warm and there was nothing worse than lukewarm beer in his opinion. "Jerry can take down a wilderbeast, that's a damn fact and yes I am a hot head, i may be quick to violence and I don't do well around people, but i do my job, and my heart is always in the right place." If there was one thing he knew better than was to try and fight the sun bazooka wielder. "You sit here, and try to have normal lives, to bond and party when its futile. We gave all that up when we chose to come here. Keep pretending that we can mingle with society and not be stuck on the other side of the looking glass, trying to regain what we willingly gave up."
The notion was always so clear to him, but yet it was blind to everyone else. It never made any sense to him, to the point where he wondered if it was truly him who was blind. Words didn't hurt, ridicule and taunts, jeers and comments bounced easily from a thick hide. The gentle pat from Melvin was more than enough to cause the male to flinch and tighten a fist in case is was a strike, instincts were instincts.
The features of Melvin became clearer as he gave the blonde a nod and shuffled with him, Let these people have their party, making appearances were nothing but tiresome.
So damn tiresome.

"So the right place for your heart is to piss all over someone else's happy occasion just because your panties are in a twist over old drama? Are you so traumitized by our job description you're incapable of a nice party with civil conversation?" Jerry huffed. It unnerved him that Leon barely batted an eye when he had pointed out the Lifer would happily leave him and Rep to die and didn't deny that fact.
Where was this Right Place, that that was okay?
"Yes, our lives are ******** UP. But that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to ENJOY ourselves occasionally. TRY to be normal- be HUMAN. Otherwise you're just as bad, if not worse than what you accuse Rep of being." Jerry snarled, storming up to the man who easily weighed twice as much as him. "So what are you, Leon? Cause the only traitor I see here is a big baby who's jealous of the husbands to be. Pole dancing for Clarice not getting you the perks you hoped for?"

"The place in my heart that doesn't want to see comrades hurt over the loss of their betrothed which is the fate for us." Leon quickly went to correct Jerry. "The part that does not want to see others in distress when someone important is lost to them, to have to bear witness to the mournful wails of a grieving person when their spouse does not come back after a mission or returns a broken and shattered husk of their former self." he continued after taking a breath and finding whatever calm the boxer could muster. "I'm Vigilant in my job description that makes me act like this."
The urge to try and have someone see his side of the coin was palpable "The enjoyment of being alive should be expressed every day, not just on holidays that have no bearing on us anymore." he declared again, plainly and without anger. "No families in which to huddle around, No parents to see how well we've done, no pictures of children to share them. no. nothing. We have. NOTHING. we are nothing. Least of all, human."
Everything else that Jerry was all but empty hollow words. "Call me whatever you want; a traitor, jackass, a douchbag, an out of place athlete, whatever that can help you sleep at night."

"All I know is that the only family I've got is right here at Deus. I am grateful for ALL of them, and happy for any opportunity to celebrate that. And if Marcus and Cass, Robert and Petra, or anyone else want to spend what time we might have left together in a sign of loyalty and love is their business, and a brave move that I am jealous of. You can distance yourself all you want, make all the enemies you want, but all you're doing is shooting yourself in the foot, Leon. You called me a traitor once for looking out for myself when the rest of the group we were with wouldn't have batted an eye to sacrifice me or leave me to die. And you've been holding it against me ever since. How is that healthy, Leon? And to be lectured about sanity by me of all people, you really aught to rethink yourself."
The partying mood was ruined in his mind and for what? A sour young man with his priorities shoved up his a**. "Happy New Year to you too, and I hope you aren't going to be a liability that gets us all killed because you're too stuck up to do the right thing."

Ami didn't want to be here. Ami REALLY didn't want to be here. But no. Marcus had dragged her, insisting it'd be fun. It'd be a quiet get together between friends. Ami could handle that.
What she walked in on was not a quiet get together.
Leon and another hunter ... Jeremiah? Jerome? arguing over something probably not all that important. Screaming about a party. Ami's expression went from glare to straight up sullen depression.
"Oh great idea Marcus," she said, shrugging to his side and ignoring the booze entirely. She didn't want to drink, if she could help it. "May I excuse myself?" she said, nearly a hiss. Ami wanted to leave so badly, but politeness always stung her retreat.

"Happy New year to you too Jerry." Leon replied back. Letting the words Jerry said sink in for when he had the time to think on it. "If I do become a liability, I hope they do the right thing to save everyone else."

"Or you can man up and... and freaking relax and be friendly and just say congratulations like decent people do, and take the opportunity to enjoy yourself with what family you have here. Or is starting fights at an otherwise pleasant get together how you have fun? Cause as it stands, I don't doubt you'd leave me and my friends to die on a battle field for no good reason other than you don't like the way I wear my shirt. Prove me wrong."

"Hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right," Jordan mused. "Complete with attempting to be tactful about the boss's karaoke skills, sometimes." He glanced down the hall, considering going back to the party. No, not yet.

No families in which to huddle around, No parents to see how well we've done, no pictures of children to share them. no. nothing. We have. NOTHING. we are nothing. Least of all, human.
Melvin stood there frozen at the shouted statement.
Melvin? He's just a d**k shouting. Saliva was already feeling something stir, and was easy brushed aside by the Life Hunter.
He left Leon to fight, seeing that openness that he tended to like taken a step too far in the wrong direction. Moving to his bottle of whiskey, he took it and decided he needed a bit of a breather. Just a moment for things to pass.
While all eyes seemed to be on the commotion Melvin in some way started, he left through another side exit and down the hallway. He just needed a drink alone before coming back.
