Apparently finished with causing trouble for now Damaged Eardrums and Look Before You Leap trotted along towards the candidates. At the edge of the several person deep semi circle they split apart, one jogging along one side of the semi circle and one on the other.
Damaged Eardrums passed by Carltis who stood right at the front of the semi circle and smacked him on the knee with a wing as he passed. He reached the end of the curve without pause or incident other than that however, and Look Before You Leap met him there. They exchanged glances and wing shrugs before parting again. Look Before You Leap started to pad slowly down the other side of the semi circle, but it seemed Damaged Eardrums had other ideas; he was heading towards the healers and their table.
Without apology he placed his forefeet up on the edge of the table and dropped his piece of eggshell, presumably for safe-keeping. He then sniffed carefully at everything up there. When he got to the numbweed he snorted, coughed, and dropped back down onto all fours; not good!... Oh, but what was this? Fascinated by the strange item he trotted up to an older human with bright red hair. The human backed up. He followed him. The human backed up again, brows knitting and lips pursing into a flat line. As this wasn't having the desired effect - namely getting hold of the unfamiliar thing he wanted - Damaged Eardrums turned to saunter away casually. After a few paces he wheeled around and dived forward, catching the strange item in his teeth and yanking it out of the human's hand. Before the man could do more than give a shout of objection he was bounding away across the sands, glee at his victory turning his eyes bright blue. He totally ignored the cry that followed him.
----------
[Bereck]
Good; it looked as if the pair of blues were finally settling down to Impressing. "About time too," Bereck muttered under his breath as they trotted along the ranks of candidates. As neither seemed to find what they were looking for he assumed they would swap sides, but only the spotted one of the pair took the side of the semi circle he hadn't covered. The dark and vivid hatchling on the other hand was moving towards him... or to be more accurate, probably, was moving towards one of the apprentices. Bereck looked thoughtfully at Cai as the dragon arrived and put his feet up on the supplies table. Anyone else who had done that would have got a sharp word, but unbonded dragons had to be left to their own devices so he bit down on the reprimand before he could voice it.
Maybe he should have voiced it; now the dragon was after him of all people!
Bereck backed off, frowning down at the blue; he was already bonded, and very much too old even if he hadn't been! The dragon followed. He backed up more and then, mercifully, it seemed to give up. Just as he started to relax the small stocky dragon spun around and with blinding speed sprang forward to tear his cane out of his hand.
"Hey!" The blue spun around again and took off. "I need that, come back you little brat!" He was not impressed, not in the least! "Children!" he exclaimed in disgust, dropping his weight onto his right hip to save the left leg and glowering after the retreating hatchling.

Cai (tag Bereck)
Cai nodded and pursed her lips. "That's what I had thought..." Even in the open air of Trine's hatching sands it was difficult to discern any color in the dragonet's hide. Neither did it's demeanor give away any clues to what it might be. Cai fussed with the materials on the table before her as she waited for it to Impress and the problem solved. She did not like not knowing.
A new problem presented itself as one of the blues, the one who'd cracked 'the black's' egg, trotted it's way right up to her table. "Hey!" She exclaimed, stopping herself from yelling it at the last moment as Bereck began to back up and she took the cue quickly herself.
Then it turned on Bereck. Cai glowered. Unbonded or not he lay one claw on the Master Healer and Trine would think his ears splitting cries were the quiet hums of sleeping flits compared to her.
"Bereck!" She cried when the older man was suddenly without his cane. She darted to his side but the hatchling was already long gone with it's prize. "Sharding dimglowed wherry brained brat!" She swore after it. She didn't leave the healer's area though. If Master Bereck needed her shoulder to steady himself she was there, but she wouldn't say so out loud. It hadn't taken long to learn the man had pride and she herself would have chewed out anyone who dare suggested it if she needed the same thing.
............................. Dizzian
~ So many blues...~ Dizzian leaned forward, arms propped on her knees as she watched. It was a lot like Courath's hatching actually. True no one knew the fate of the missing eggs, or what they may have contained, but seeing the abundance of blue and green dragonets made her smile. She rationalized that as they had not heard keening from the dragons, maybe the other little ones were safe? The search parties weren't back yet either. Really, if they'd heard the eggs at home were hatching wouldn't they have returned the candidates unless they too were busy? Dizzian liked to hope so. Maybe this would all turn out right in the end. She 'leaned' on Courath, drawing encouragement and reassurance from the bright green up above.
She knew the large hatchling below wasn't a black. Hadn't Solath been that dark upon his hatching as well? She'd seen plenty of dark chromatics in her turns that she wasn't going to get riled up over an 'enormous black hatching without help.' It was just silly. No, he was a blue if she had any experience.

"Dad!" It was out of Aleck's mouth before he knew it, and didn't he feel a bit silly when his father righted himself just after that needlessly alarmed outburst? It was the leap and the bound, the unbonded blue's focus on the still-healing healer; as a weyrbrat who'd been half-raised by Berath, Aleck had witnessed the damage young hatchlings were capable of at many of a Hatching, and he could read the signs - so why shout now, when the blue wasn't aggressive, just playful?

[Rochelle]
She blinked.
Well, shaff.
----
[Alina]
The Hatching had been relatively smooth, all things considered. Sharp teethed things bursting from shells never struck her as 'smooth', something akin to a dying star. Everyone came with high hopes, some things happened, most people left disappointed. It was, all in all, a rather depressing process.
She'd not expected one of them to run at Bereck and steal his cane. Alina lurched a bit at seeing it, her eyes wide and mouth ajar. What to do? Running down there and being all worried would do nothing but be humiliating. She stood with her eyes on Bereck, willing him to not, you know.
Fall or something.
That's when she heard Aleck yell out, her fluffy haired head swiveling to stare at him, and the worry, and hunched her shoulders at the sight of his worry. Last thing he needed to do was see her there when he was already worried.

Wykla greeted each new pair that passed on their way to the feeding tables. She shook her head at the blue who stole the healer's cane. Someone was going to have to keep a close eye on that boy. He was going to be a handful for his rider.

For the first time since hatching Damaged Eardrums stilled; froze was probably a more appropriate word. With eyes gleaming bright he spun around, searching for that something he had sensed so abruptly. It had gone again now though, faded away.... He had to find it. He had to! Cane still gripped in his teeth the stocky blue headed back in the vague direction of the candidates; had it been here? Pacifist meanwhile had just reached the candidates. Look Before You Leap was on his way past and the larger dragon waited for the spotted hatchling to pass by before approaching. His blue eyes skipped from boy to boy, never even resting on the face of a woman. His gaze lingered in particular on Roscoe but he made to move on by... and then he stopped, turned, and moved back to the Benden boy. Before the dragon even spoke the candidate would feel a connection in his mind, and then a touch of the hatchling's nose to his hand.
And then the hatchling spread his wings, and it became clear to the spectators what he was after all.
As the dark-hided brown Impressed the Circles-Within-Circles egg started to rock more vigorously amongst Sunnath's clutch. The last three eggs, two of Hyweth's and one of Sunnath's showed no sign of movement at all. Were these atypes? Were they just slow, or were they true duds? If they didn't move soon the strike of the clutchmothers' riders would reveal the truth.

As the Pacifist dragon stalked towards His, Darsha caught a better glimpse of his hide in the light. Not a black after all, but a very handsome brown. And he impressed quickly, too! She did find a full smile for that pairing, since she knew that as a girl, she would never impress a brown or a bronze. Those were boy's dragons.
The Damaged Eardrums blue seemed to have caught the scent of His, as well. Darsha looked at the remaining eggs on the sand. Four... only four eggs, and so many candidates left standing. She swallowed against her tightening throat. Hers was here... had to be here! The lack of motion from three of the eggs concerned her. She had heard stories about riders having to break open eggs, as well as the tragedies of dud eggs. She hoped that it was only that the dragons still inside were atypical and needed a little help.

Roscoe watched as the dark dragon stalked ever closer, strides steady and sure, it was becoming more and more apparent that the creature was headed for the male ranks. Roscoe held his breath slightly but forced himself to not step back and out of line as the hathling locked gazes with him. It wasn't until he went to move on past that Roscoe relaxed. He wasn't going to be stuck with a black..he wasn't..no he was meant for greater things then that!
But now..now he was turning back and Roscoe all but panicked...his worst fears seemed to be coming true, this never would have happened at Benden, and maybe it was a touch absurd but Roscoe was still adjusting to life outside Benden..had been having nightmares about accidently impressing an atypical since he arrived and the thought of this strange black claiming him was almost to much to bare. The pressure on his mind was overwhelming and Roscoe felt a quick urge to shoo the beast away even knowing it would be all but pointless. He didn't want a black...N'mol would be so terribly disappointed! But it was all but a done deal and Roscoe all but sobbed as the hatchling spoke to him. Those in the stands might think he sobbed in joy as so many candidates did but Roscoe was mentally saying good-bye to all the goals he'd had in life, flinging away a lifetimes worth of beliefs because how could he not with a black bonded to him?
But then Jaggeth was his and his panic paused because suddenly Roscoe knew, knew even before he spread his wings that Jaggeth, his jaggeth..was exactly what he wanted and he flung his arms around the solid steady brown. "Yes, yes we'll go, right away!" He assured the brown and there was more gratitude in his voice then anything else. Perhaps not all his dreams had died with Benden after all.

Torin couldn't help the amusement that came from the two blues and their antics. Well more like the bigger blue's antics, the smaller one seemed to be unimpressed. Still, it was fun to watch, even when he had crawled on top of another egg. Whoever Impressed to that one would end up with a hand full for sure. A wry grin tugged at his lips as he finally dragged his eyes away to see what the green was up to. Ah, steadily making her way down the line of candidates. She would only take the best it seemed. Torin couldn't help but approve. Even if the dragons usually always chose the one just right for them.
And then she was slowing. Had she found hers? Of course, that's when he noticed she had come to a stop in front of him. She was looking at him. Eyes widened as he felt that brush in his mind; the mind that was just realizing what that rainbow gaze meant. Oh. Ohh. Him? Really?
Torin. You are the one I felt before... and are the one I choose. I am Oishyth. Come now; I shall feed, and we shall talk. Oishyth. His Oishyth. A bright grin shone from his face and he nodded quickly. "Of course." Whatever she wanted. Leading his dragon, shards he'd have to get used to that, Torin headed towards the rest of the newly Impressed. Ah, it was T'rin now, huh? So much to get used to. We will be fine. The future holds much for us. Does it now? The present was active enough, but with Oishyth around now things would certainly change.

The Circles-Within-Circles egg rocked a few more times and eventually cracked open to reveal a pretty slender green, pale on her head but fading to a rich emerald around her shoulders. Blinking hard she ducked her head to paw a piece of shell off her cheek and then set off towards the candidates; her eyes were bright, alert and interested in the world around her. Damaged Eardrums meanwhile had stopped in front of the candidate semicircle; he looked disappointed. Apparently he was not to be repressed for long however, and apparently he was also bright enough to know cause and effect for rather than wandering around lost he trotted back towards the red-haired human. Right, he had been here and he had felt the thing he was looking for. The red haired human glared at him and folded its arms across its chest but he had no time for that. Rearing up on his hind legs, cane still in his mouth, he gave the healer a very light swat on the elbow with one forepaw. Ah- ha! His head snapped around and his body followed. All four legs worked to carry him forward in a sprint, a sprint that led him up into the Stands! Many, many unfortunate people were whacked around the groinal regions with the stolen cane but Damaged Eardrums was undeterred; he had found the mind that had drawn him in, the mind that was currently so very cross with him. The stocky blue halted on the row below Aleck directly in front him, and a swift movement of his head hooked the crook of the cane into the crafter's belt. Back down on the Sands the Look Before You Leap blue had come to a halt in front of Carltis. Carltis was craning around, trying to see what was going on up in the Stands. The little blue's eyes lit up, and if it were possible for a dragon to grin then he did so. anything stand in our way.>

[Alina]
She'd been paying attention to Aleck, not to little dragons going slamming through the crowd like a mad man. The Starcrafter didn't harbor any 'maternal' sort of urges towards the boy but, still, he looked like her and Bereck adored him, he seemed an alright sort. It wouldn't do for him to panic, even if she wanted to hide away from him until the end of time if only so he didn't dislike her more.
Not paying attention meant cane to the thigh. It hit high and hard on the inside of her leg (and thank goodness she wasn't a man). Alina yelped, a whole slew of rough and inappropriate words leaving her as her leg spiked with pain and her hand clasped over the area.
She bit down hard on her lower lip, eyes squeezing shut and squeezing, as if it would help anyway. Shards. Shells. Ow. The dragon stopped (or at least the cries of pain subsided) and Alina squinted an eye open to see... Aleck. Aleck with a dragon on his belt.
... oooh, Ber was going to flip his lid.

[Carltis]
The noisy blue was harassing Aleck's father again, and now shooting off into the Stands. What was it's problem? Scowling a bit he twisted around to observed the chaos the little dragon was causing. Well that was just great, wasn't it? It couldn't possibly have-
anything hold us back.>
...What.
Carltis turned around slowly and looked down at the beautiful tiny... blue.
Malcarreth!
Any other thoughts he might have had were wiped away by the sudden presence in his mind. Dropping to his knees he flung his arms around the little hatchling and buried his face in the blue's spotted shoulder.
Wiping his eyes on the sleeve of his robe - he hadn't been crying, not a bit! It was just sand in his eye! - C'tis got to his feet and set off towards the meat tables, grinning like an idiot. After a few paces he paused and turned to face Rochelle, giving her a thumbs up. "See you soon, right?" Today was perfect; that dictated that she had to Impress too. That didn't make sense, but he didn't give a damn.
Malcarreth!
--------------
[Bereck & Berath - tag Cai, tag Aleck]
What? It was back?
Bereck glared down at the blue hatchling. "What's your complex dragon? Go away and- ow!" The dragon had slapped him! At least it was off again now and....
Oh lovely; into the stands.
That bundle of trouble was going to Impress to some young fool who had no idea of how to-
Dragon. What are you doing near Aleck? Get away from him you-!
Oh.
Oh!
An enormous grin spread across the healer's face and he spontaneously hugged the nearest person, which happened to be Cai. "That's my son!" Cai knew this of course, but Bereck hadn't registered who she was. Releasing the hapless apprentice he moved towards the bottom of the stands, his gait awkward as he heavily favoured he wounded leg but he was far too busy thinking about other things to notice the pain. "Aleck!" he waved frantically, still grinning like an idiot. "Down here!"
As HerHealer realised what was going on so too did Berath. Her head snapped around and down and she saw Aleck with the active little blue. she called, bugling ear-splittingly and ecstatically at the sight. knew it!>

Darsha remembered the Circles Within Circles egg well, and smiled at the little green who emerged from it. Such a lovely little thing! As she was hatching, two more Impressions took place and Darsha found her chest tightening again. There was the pretty Circles green on the sands, and three eggs that had yet to so much as twitch. Were they duds? Was there only this lone little green left? And what about the stolen eggs? Darsha shuddered a little bit. This was not how she had expected things to go. She had come onto the sands with such high expectations, and those were quickly dwindling. Still, she mustered up the last bit of optimism she possessed in the moment. Surely all three couldn't be duds. They would crack them open soon, and then everyone would find out just what waited in those last little eggs.

Cai
Back for round two huh? Cai's temper flared as the blue with the cane headed back their way. Once again she kept her distance, if it was just returning his cane, then no harm done. "Bereck Look ou-!" The dragon had reared back...and barely more than tapped him! Then if was off again, cane still in it's grasp. "You thrice betweened stinking wherson!" Chasing after the hatching would have to wait(not that she really would have done it... ok she might have)
"Harrassing the candidates, knocking them over even mauling them fine! That's what they're there for! How dare he come over here and attack you!" She'd grabbed a rag and numbweed for the Masterhealer's arm, not knowing the extent of the damage. Still muttering cross oaths she returned to his side only to be wrapped in an enormous bear hug, surprisingly strong for the old man. Her mind barely registered the strength as internally she'd been sent into her own panic. Someone was touching her, someone was holding and embracing her. It was all she could do to remember who exactly it was and NOT strike him herself.
She stumbled back as she was released and Bereck scrambled his way towards something. She heard a dragon crying above, but Cai was shaking and it took her some time before she registered his words and the fact that the blue hadn't mauled people but Impressed. To Bereck's son. Aleck. She'd be happy for him later.
Cai retreated to the table, ignoring the other apprentices as she rested her hands on it to steady herself. That was the first time in... she couldn't remember how long, that she'd actually been hugged by someone. Supporting injured people didn't count. Contact required for work never bothered her. This innocent, exuberant gesture had her rattled though. Her personal space had been violated and she couldn't even be angry at the person who had done it. More, she was angry at herself for how badly it had shaken her.
Deep breaths. She fought to regain her composure, yet she could feel the skin of her neck and ears burning. The other blue had Impressed as well. Carltis now also numbered among the newest riders, leaving their hot tempered girlfriend (Cai had never figured out if there was a relationship between any of them or not. She'd not paid close attention to their antics except for when they came to visit Bereck) still standing on the Sands.

[Wen] Wen was starting to regret taking of his sandals. The sand was hot, obviously, he knew that when he took them off. Atlini was a port hold and hot sand was a norm, standing still in hot sand and watching dragons pass him by was not. He was not going to put the sandals back on, even if his feet were getting a tad red and uncomfortable. He moved better and quieter in bare feet or in the thin black slipper.
Egg moving. The creamy shell was starting to break, tossing off the merry little blue and was that a dark tail? It couldn't be a black, the weight ratio to shell was all wrong considering how long it took the playful blue to break out his sibling. The dark dragon was not in a hurry, unlike the other blue.
A other impression, it was a trend among the blues to pick male candidate it seemed. He gave a simple not to the pair and watched the dark large hatching move, a bronze or brown perhaps? Just really, really dark? Puppies and foals all looked darker when they were newly born so it could be the same with the dragon searching for his.
It seemed that he wasn't the only one that would have a problem with thievery. A cane was likely a lot easier to return then flit eggs. Wen smiled slightly, watching the blue race around the healer's cane. It wasn't like the blue meant it to be mean after all. Curious and proud and it was a brown.
Somewhat dried off and spreading his wings, it was very clearly a brindle looking brown. A other of Sunnath's eggs had started to move and the blues were still running about the sands.
A other green, much of the two clutches had been green all gorgeous but only one had impressed to a male and there still were plenty of female candidates out there. She likely would go there. Wen turned his eyes to the blues, watching one of them bolt into the stands? He had heard of stand impressions, but to witness one was different. The tiny little blue with the dark spots seemed to have found his as well.
Which left the rather still little eggs. He had not touched the cloudy gray egg, and the jagged gray egg was not a favorite. Wen did not wish the jagged gray one any harm, but he was wary of it and the hatchling it harbored. The fact the bright orange egg hadn't hatched was worrying. It had been trying to hard when he had touched it.
