Sabitsuki watched silently, cautiously, as Tebiki took a parcel of flame from her lantern's well, and manipulate its energies into strange runic symbols. She was amazed by the sorcery the Shepard used, having only used her lantern's flame for common, everyday uses, as displayed moments before.

"...? What could you see in the flame..? --Ah, Akira?" Sabitsuki snapped to her senses, realizing she had been staring at the table, and where the runes had burned brightly. "W-Well, yes... when I first saw Akira, I was young, very young. I thought she was another of the village children, but with strange and funny clothes. I... Um... I-I used my powers to copy her appearance, a-and I mocked her mannerisms..." Sabitsuki gave an awkward laugh, her gaze falling to the side as she lit up with a blush. "I-I didn't know who she was! ...And even if I had, I was too young to understand what she was."

She stared down to the lantern clutched to her breast, its warmth failing to comfort the icy shivers elicited from the fear of the unknown. "But...what does she have to do with my birth?"

"Akira played a hand in your birth," the Shepard responded,"The mirror you were born from was no ordinary mirror. It was one of the Yama's Cleansed Mirrors. Akira lost her mirror once;someone must have found and brought it to the shop where it sat there for the longest time."

"That would also explain why people thought the mirror was cursed and grew to hate," Tebiki continued,"The Cleansed Mirror's from court show the Yama's the past of the souls before them. Not only that, but it shows them the true nature of the person being judged. When people peered into the mirror they saw their biggest faults and most hideous secrets. Because of their human nature, they thought the mirror was cursed, instead of admitting their errors." The shepard set her staff down next to her, and ghosts began to teem around it,"It also explains you abilities; all your skills are uses the Cleansed Mirror has, from seeing the true nature in people to being able to copy their appearance. I wouldn't be surprised if -with proper practice- you learn how to read their soul's past. "

"As for the soul that attached to the mirror...." She hesitated,"Enough is said when I tell you there is nothing particularly special aside from the fact it was a stray soul. Much like souls can possess flowers, they can posses items with a concentration of emotions. The Cleansed Mirror was the focus of many emotions from the human villagers, it was natural that a disembodied soul made it its home. "

"Is there anything else you would like to know or have clarified?"

"I... W-Was a... a-a Judge's mirror...?"

Sabitsuki's eyes darted all around, her mind trying to compute the information given. What the Shepard spoke, as absurd as it seemed, also... somehow fit. It explained all the hated looks she got. All the accusations of being cursed. The people who saw didn't hate her, they hated what they saw in her... and, unwilling to take responsibility, cast that hate instead to her.

Left somewhat breathless, Sabitsuki moved back to her chair, silently, sitting once more, with her lantern still nestled against her beating heart. "...I-I suppose that is somewhat... comforting, then. T-To know that the hate I had felt... wasn't directly for me. But tell me, O Shepard... am I doomed to always be hated for that ability? I... I've done my best to keep it to myself. Even here, in the Underground, among the darkest and devilish of Youkai, they... they have shunned me before. Can people truly be so afraid of their own selves..? They, who would know their darkest secrets better than anyone else? ...Though, I suppose it is because I can discover what it is they wish to hide..."

Sabitsuki was quiet for a moment, her gaze falling to nowhere in particular. She still clung to the lantern tightly, and was now resting her chin upon its handle. Her thoughts strayed to Akira finally, and an amused smirk creased her soft features. "If... I was born from a Cleansed Mirror that once was in possession of Akira Hijou, then... does... does that mean she is my mother?"

The Shepard was quiet for a bit, letting Sabitsuki calm down and swallow all the information she had provided. She smiled, however once Sabitsuki began to speak again, "I think you know the answer to that, my little mirror. You have seen into the Oni, is she not enough proof? You have not been able to peer into Fuzen-mara; how weak must she be to the mortal truth of her body and soul. ... Humans- No, Mortals- Will forever fear being exposed as the evil beings they may be. Perfection is something they strive for, but can never achieve. That being said, no, I don't think you will be hated for your ability. Your sister, the one who lost her blood-sister, she accepts you fully, and even Katrina... I admit there to be some kinship in her for your abilities, even if she sees only sin. Fuzen too, she has no fear of your skills, and neither do I. I doubt Yuuka Kazami does either." Just how many people had she seen in Sabitsuki's past?

"The answer to that dilemma is... you must seek out people of greater age, who are at peace or understand their own demons and faults," Tebiki concluded,"People who do not fear who they are, in other words." The spirit looked to the lantern Sabitsuki held. The thought of perhaps teaching her how to produce runes from magical fire crossed her mind, but the mirror was still too young. "Do not restrain your abilities out of fear of being rejected. The rejection of others is merely their fear coming through. You seek to become stronger, you said, and to do that, you must reach your full potential. I believe you truly can, I see you are the determined kind."

The shepard blinked and scratched her head. After a thoughtful and vaguely awkward pause, she said,"I suppose so, indirectly, she is your owner... But Hijou-sama wouldn't be well with that idea.... Her being your Mother is a good way to think about it."

Sabitsuki's attention perked as the Shepard began listing off the various peoples she has known in her lifetime. Had she seen all that from the humble flame? It must have had something to do with what she had said earlier, about reading a soul's past. The thought hadn't crossed Sabitsuki's mind that it might be a skill that the Shepard possessed, but one that was certainly warranted of her official position within the courts. She must spend a lot of time around souls, and thus learned to "read" them.

Further, the mentioning of Sabitsuki's inability to delve into Fuzen-Mara's shadow sparked an epiphany in her mind; was the Temptress, knowing of Sabitsuki's abilities, actively safeguarding her own persona by making her visions clouded, or otherwise leading Sabitsuki's attention astray? Perhaps her playful teasing wasn't so playful at all, but rather to protect herself from whatever Sabitsuki might uncover. From the human once known as "Yumi", and perhaps what is one of Fuzen's greatest weaknesses - or greatest agitations.

It was a lot to take in for such a sudden conversation and subsequent revelation. Sabitsuki sought to calm her breathing and beating heart, and reached out to take her cup of cooled tea from the table, drinking down the rest of its contents rather swiftly. As she finished, she set the cup back on the table, and relaxed her grip on the lantern in her lap.

"...Th-Thank you, Shepard. Your insight and great wisdom leave me comforted, yet perhaps... a little anxious. I am humbled and thankful for what you saw fit to reveal to me. I... I only hope I can live up to these expectations of yours. But... I-I've probably taken up too much of your time with my... m-my silly questions, haven't I? I'm sure you are a busy woman," She stood, setting the lantern on the table and began collecting her own cup and the tea kettle. "A-And probably have to leave... d-do you? Or... O-Or can I refresh your tea? Or...s-something?" Embarrassed and red again, she now cradled the tea kettle. "I-I'm sorry, Miss Shepard... I'm so unused to guests... But... I'd also... really like to see Akira again, someday... But she is probably far too busy, as well..."

She looked up, a small bit of hope in her eyes. "I-If you do have to go, n-not that I want you to, but... if you do, could you please tell... M-Miss Akira that I'd like to see her sometime?"

"Don't worry, I hardly take real breaks, Hijou-sama won't be worried that I came to visit someone who took hand in putting Fuzen-mara under our radar once more. Nevertheless, I should be going," The Shepard stood and smiled,"No no, I should be on my way. I am glad you found the information I had for you helpful." She took her staff in her hands and started heading for the door with the sizeable group of ghosts that gathered around the lantern of her staff.

"I am sure if I told Hijou-sama she would be very happy to come see you herself,' Tebiki stopped and nodded,'Even yama's need to stretch their legs from time to time. It may take her a while, But when I tell her, she will keep it in her mind till she can come and visit you herself." She opened the door to the alley of where SAbitsuki's house was,"Take care now, little mirror. They say that to be a saint you must live among the sinners, but take care not to become a sinner yourself. Keep your good karma on your side. " She cleared her throat and gave a bow. "Thank you for your hospitality and the tea, I will pass your message to HIjou-sama, till we meet again, Sabitsuki," With that the spirit seemingly vanished.

"Oh... okay then," Sabitsuki said sadly as she followed Tebiki to the door. "Then... then I will wait for the day that Akira is able to see me. It would be nice, catching up after so many years have passed... Really, Akira was my first friend..."

"I... I'll do what I can; beyond that, I cannot promise what I do not know. I am as blind to the future as anyone else, but... that being said, I will be careful against letting my soul wander astray. Rest assured, O Shepard, I will keep watch over Miss Fuzen Mara and Miss Katrina."

"I am happy to have had your company, and I wish to see you again soon! Y-You are welcome here anytime, so please, come back to see me again..?"
Sabitsuki returned the shepard's gracious bow in full, and by the time she rose, the shepard... was gone.

As the shepard had vanished, so too did Sabitsuki's soft smile. The little excitement of the day was over, and now, the sting of wounds recently recieved floated to the top of Sabitsuki's mind. She closed and locked the door to the alleyway, then retreated further into her small, humble home, where she nursed her injuries and silently swore to keep newly learned secrets close to her heart.

Yumi...

Katrina...

"...Ah!"
Sabitsuki's gaze rose in shock, and she turned to look at the front door. "...Miss Shepard... still hasn't told me her name!"
