As Vai slipped, Sarcire cried out wordlessly to him and hastened over to offer him a shoulder until he could get his footing again. This was a very strange way to go. She had a feeling that there should be an easier way to get from here to there.

But she had no real proof other than being nervous. And she'd been that since she'd heard her baby siblings were missing.

Ram maintained his silence, his gaze still fixed on Furiko as he continued to listen to both Vai and Sarcire. Furiko's unusual route had not been lost on him and he was aware that this was not an efficient trail. It was highly unlikely they had run this direction with the cubs but he would demonstrate patience for a little while longer - after all, they may have taken a quicker route to reach the borders and then had the cubs moved to a more awkward location.

Clearing his throat, Ram lengthened his strides to walk alongside Furiko, his gaze critical. He may not have said anything, but his facial expression should have conveyed his thoughts on the matter - Furiko was treading on dangerous ground, and not just in the literal sense!

"Watch your footing," he murmured over his shoulder to Vai. "This land is not as forgiving as the sands you are used to."

"Thanks," Vainamo said to Sarcire. "These theives must the a pride of freaken klipspringers to make it through this terrain so fast..."

Of course, it was a bit of a joke, but there was seriousness there too. Just how had they managed it!? The ground hurt his feet. Just like Ram said - he was used to softer ground, like the sand. He'd be much careful now.

Furiko was feeling rather smug at the moment. He had already managed to take more time this route than it would take going the straight way and the three lions still hadn't figured it out. Now he was pretty certain that their scouts had not managed to find the pride. They would have known that he was leading them way off course by now if they had found the pride. He wasn't sure exactly what all they were telling the truth about now. He was very glad he had decided to lead them off course now.

Furiko was paying little attention to Ram or the critical gazes he was giving him. He was however aware of his presense and was not lost on it. The terrain they were treading really wasn't what the kizingo crossed very often but Furiko was mountain raised and this was easy peasy for him. He was already calculating ways he might could escape the three using this terrain to his advantage.

"Maybe," she murmurred to Vainamo. But this was dragging on and on, and she was getting more and more nervous.

It was getting more difficult though, for her to keep up with Ram. The pride leader seemed to have no problem at all going through this terrain and keeping going.

Oh, why was HE here? Dante liked cubnapping far less than his cousin did, and like Miguel had been sent to do it by his mother. She wasn't one he wanted to cross, after all. Unlike Miguel, though, he had the advantage of a much more neutral colored coat, not a bright blinding red. And from what he'd been told, there were still some cubs left to pick off. Swallowing as he moved, the Merchant moved with far more grace and ease than the Thief had. If anything, he was far more silent and moved with far more ease. If he'd been of a different personality, he'd likely make a far better thief.

He soon spotted Furiko, ears folding back as he moved around their path. Miguel had mentioned this... While the other lion was new, Dante trusted that he wouldn't betray the Kizingo'zaa THAT easily. As far as he knew, the brown-haired lion was planning on leading them in circles. True gypsy fashion.

Vainamo was indeed afraid that, because he and Sarcire were not used to the terrain, their guide would try to run away. After all, he seemed to have no problem with it. Then again, Ram seemed to be doing fine too. The theif would have a hard time escaping Ram! Vainamo had full faith in the former rogue on that front! And he was sure the theif wouldn't like it when Ram caught him, either.

Hopefully that wouldn't happen though. Maybe... Vainamo was still suspicious.

The further they got from the seashore, the more nervous Sarcire got. And from what she could tell, the more nervous she got, the more focused and frustrated Ram seemed to get.

All she could do for the time being was continue to follow the prisoner.

Vainamo wasn't all that good of a thinker. Still, given the situation he was trying his best to think and stratagize. What would they do if such and such happened? That sort of thing. He didn't want to say much because he knew their guide would be able to hear, so that made collaboration a bit difficult.

The whole group was very quiet now. As if they were all waiting for something to happen. Except that Sarcire had no idea what it was they were waiting for, and she had a sneaking suspicion that their so-called guide did. Now wasn't that nerve-wracking?

The further they got from the shore, somehow the happier Dante felt. As he moved along, he kept his ears peeled for any sounds of approaching lions, be they cubs or adults. If he didn't want to gain his mother's ire, he had to bring one back. He slowly peeked out, red eyes scanning the trees and bushes alike. Some lions, he knew, could blend in easily due to their coat colors and patterns, so he had to keep an eye out for them. He didn't want to be spotted not when the bee's nest had been riled.

Vainamo wondered how things were going back home. Were cubs still being stolen? Was it part of the plan to lure some of the pride away to make it easier to snatch the kids, or even....he paled to think about it...take over their pride lands? Would anyone there have it in them to fight these thieves if they were bent on taking their land from them? Vainamo wasn't sure he could bring himself to kill another...and he knew much of the pride was very much the same. Not Ram, of course, but.... Vainamo shuddered to think about it.

"Do you think we're going the right way?" Sarcire whispered to her companions as they kept going over increasingly rocky terrain. The rocks hurt her pads, accustomed as they were to the sand of the seashore. Ram, and their guide, she noted, weren't having nearly as much trouble moving over the stones.

Somehow, he ended up nearly finding himself in their path several times. Dante scowled at his luck, wishing he'd run across something more interesting... Like a cub. He'd give anything to find a cub. He'd even like to run into that long-eared freak lion his mother said she'd seen once. Since that was before Muhali vanished, he was sure it was a hallucination. Okay, maybe he DIDN'T want to find that weird lion. Thing. Taking a break, Dante took a seat in a sheltered and hidden spot. Were those cubs hiding better now? They knew there were lions sneaking about to steal them away to be gypsies, didn't they?

Furiko really didn't care if he was angering Ram. He would only start caring if the male made a move to attack him. That's when he would start caring. Until then he would continue his path over the rough terrain. He was climbing it so easily that he was starting to remember all the times he had hunted on terrain just like this and all the times he had nearly got killed by almost falling to his death. Ah good times. Now he was practiced and perfect at his climbing and was sure of his skills even though he hadn't used them in a very long time.
