Clowns terrify me.
I think what the plan is right now is pretty clear. You may have tip read multiple posts to get it, but still. XDD
But, if you guys still want supernatural, then I guess we can throw supernatural in the mix! Maybe the child performers won't be random kids, but specifically weeded out. Maybe we could say that the kids are magical in some form, meaning they can do stuff average people can't. Which is entertainment, of course.
(If you guys have read the Darkest Powers series, that's a little what I meant. Just fit into the cicus and entertainment theme. (: )
And, if you want even more supernatural, we could say that one of the performers died and now the circus is missing one person, so they need to "hire" again. But the performer that died's ghost is still haunting around, trying to warn people not to join the circus. And the Ringmaster and all his/her (I want to play a male ringmaster, but I don't want to change my avatar's gender + I don't have much male items + I suck at crossdressing.) allies can try to ward away the ghost. (:
And if you want even more supernatural, we can also make the Ringmaster a vampire. XDD
But one thing I want to point out is that we don't have to have supernatural. As you can see, the Dark Circus theme is just as popular as any supernatural theme. I personally love Cirque themes and I know others do too. Cirque du Gothique, Cirque du Freak, etc... So as we may lose some supernatural fanatics, we'll gain some circus fans. We'll add supernatural if you guys want, but I will say we're definitely going with the circus and the morbid performers and etc. ^^

Oh, don't get me wrong! I'll have fun either way, I'm just worried that Gaia's plentiful youth population would freak out or loose interest, as most everything so far has been werewolfs/vampires/dark elves/zombies in the storylines.
Still, all kinds of opportunities for circus gear - I'm looking forward to trying the limits of my Nightmare and Reve Roille, and I discovered that combining the Elven Ears (Magma) with a Monks Tonsure makes an excellent clown wig with a lot more flexibility than the generic items. The possibilities are staggering!

I would have to agree, with this being Gaia I would think the more fantastic would be more alluring rather than something more visceral and almost realistic in some stretches. Most people use gaia to enjoy that fantasy idea so I would think going to much away from even just basic fantasy elements would give us a low turn out. Even though we are all on Gaia for fun, we will be competing with the Gaia event for participants, so we have to do something to go against a war between dark elves and vampires.

I know what you guys mean.
But what I mean is if we want to lure in the youth, we could easily access them in the Chatterbox. And most (not all, of course! I know we have wonderful young teens in the ball that are a super duper addition to the ball. I'm just being stereotypical here.) 13 year olds wouldn't be very interested in RPing with us, don't you think? Even if we did do a supernatural plot.
It's not a bad idea to fit supernatural in and scoot over a little from realism, but if you look around, everything is supernatural these days. When we got this Dark Carnival idea, I thought it'll be great to keep some supernatural in, but also be original and work with something real.
Of course, we can absolutely do supernatural! If you guys want to do any of the ideas I posted earlier, or come up with your own, go ahead and post it! Probably post it within the next few days, though, since the plot and theme and whatever is going to be completely settled by Monday. And character forms will be open Friday. So yeah.

Can I play a skeleton who more often than not carries its head in its hands? Either as a greeter or juggler. I'm leaning towards juggler. Could explain why they were beheaded? Check out the tektek: click it!

I think we could do a bit of both worlds to keep things original but still relate to a large enough audience. Maybe make the ringmaster and anyone that are more or less allied on his side, supernatural so he has a way to curse and deform the people. Everyone else is just a deformed circus freak style player who is trying to warn the other non-circus players about what is going on.
The Rngmaster doesn't even need to be that overly supernatural either, just enough to curse and control. He/She could even be human just with abilities to control, deform, and summon odd things. Someone like me and my werewolf idea could be a nice middle ground of someone who was punished rather than just taken for doing something, or made an even larger deal than whatever the others make...
Oh there is an idea, have the Ringmaster control people through a contract. I know its been done but it adds a nice amount of literal double meaning onto the idea of controlling someone, and relates on both a supernatural and realistic level.

★ I've got a couple character avatars planned out. [alien] [drider] For the Drider I'd need Ithilldyn Armor and Fading Ember, but those are fairly cheap compared to some other alternatives. ★

Do you mind if I say that the Ringmaster beheaded the skeleton because she felt it was too plain? Nothing interesting enough about a skeleton in a circus, and the circus absolutely can't settle for something mediocre! (Translation: the Ringmaster was bored. XDD )

The RIngmaster will definitely have her ways! I like the contract, but maybe something looser? I want to have the "Ringmaster" side, and the "Anit-Ringmaster" side, to make things more interesting. The Ringmaster is going to be horribly cruel and self-centered, so I'm not sure how many people are going to opt for the "Ringmaster" side. Not that I want people to join the "Ringmaster" side, though. I kind of want to keep that to 1-2 performers. 8D
I'll explain this in more detail in another post. o:

Because I might have something to substitute Ithilldyn Armor in my invo that I'm not using. ^^ Although the only one I can think of is Checkmate Void. invo link
