Kina gave a slight twitch as hse saw her friends continuing to fight on, the crow...rather, baby, still sitting on her shoulder refusing to help. "Mokutan," she stated, somehow managing to to make it clear she was calling him by his full name rather than the nickname, "they're my friends. Please."

"No." the bird repeated, this time a bit more firmly then his usual carefree self.
"Well if you're not going to then I will." Kina readied her tonfa, preparing to rush in to help Miyako, who was at this point having the most evenly matched battle, even though she seemed to be turning the tide in her favor.
"Not unless you want me to knock you out you don't." Kina stopped suddenly, looking to the baby atop her shoulder with open surprise.
"What! Mokutan-!"
But the bird interjected. "If they can't handle this, I'll save them...but you'll be coming with me." the girl looked bewildered at this, Mokutan going on. "Look Kina-tan, I can't always be around to protect you anymore. The chief can't either. And even if he's got faith in ya...I guess you could say I'm a big old softie bird." Kina's eyes seemed to become a bit more understanding at this. "If I'm going to leave my Kina-tan alone, I need to know that she's got comrades who can watch 'er back. Ya got me...?" the baby was watching the battle carefully, his eyes under his large black cap intense. "If they can't, then yer comin with me and if I have too I'll get the annoying hag over here with Mu-tan ta carry ya. Don't make no difference ta me."
"Moku-tan..." Kina seemed to soften a bit more, before turning round and falling intense. "You'll see...they'll win. They're strong."
Mokutan however, seemed unmoved, watching the girl's battle away silently from atop the girl's shoulder. Mokutan may have been a bit of joker, but he was a good bird at heart. If he thought that it would solve anything, he wouldn't hesitate to fight the girl's battles for them...but if they were indeed Kina's friends, the people that his boss was going to have to be trusting to keep her safe while he couldn't, then the bird intended to make sure they were cut out for the job. His little kina was going to be coming with him if they were found wanting. They were here to pick up Yuki, true, but the crow was fond of his boss's little sister equivalent, and he wasn't about to just leave her in the hands of the Otobe unless he was sure that she'd be safe. Sure, Miki-tan was around to look after her, but as evidenced by now, he had to play the Otobe's game...he couldn't always be around to protect her either. She needed comrades who could stand up for her...who he could trust her to.
Or else there was no way that the bird was accepting this decision. He trusted the boss implicitly, but the order to let Kina live safely apart from them, having her own life as a Ninja, had been Kimiko's decision. And while the bird loved the girl to death, he didn't necessarily trust her judgement enough to let Kina remain in harms way.
Still. He'd admit, these two were good. "They're pretty good for Genin...I grant ya."
"Uh...we're students." Kina felt the need to point out.
Mokutan however, being practically raised by, and alongside, Xenon Maboroshi, took this with less shock than most. "Oh yeah? Huh. Not bad at all then. That girl there looks like she was made ta fight...the other girl-"
"Miyako is strong too." Kina interjected.
"Wasn't gonna say she wasn't," the genius bird assured. "But looking at her fight ya can tell she started outta the gate without a horse." When Kina blinked at him confused, the bird elaborated. "She's clearly not made ta fight hand ta hand...she's quick, smart, more the type a gal to fight long range or with some kinda proxy, but she's havin to duke it out with her fists. Not her field, is what I'm sayin. She's doin fine regardless."
"She...mentioned she wanted to use Puppets."
"Good move for her, she's got the build for it." the bird, who spent almost all his time with Xen, was showing that though he was hardly ever serious, he hadn't lived all that time with his eyes and ear shut...he was no fool. "Still..." the bird said approvingly. "This battle's already over."
"Huh?"
The bird nodded. "That friend of yers in the armor...Knight clan? She's got these punks outclassed. They never had a chance ta begin with."
Hitorashi was flung back again by the girl's attacks...she was stronger than...physically stronger than him...he at to be a good two feet bigger...but this girl was tossing him around like it was nothing...this was...then she said it.
"D-didn't....didn't tell me what!?" his eyes were wide. "What the hell are you!?" he threw himself her, thrashing blindly. with his fists only to once again strike air. What did she mean? Had he really been tricked? Had this been some kind of trap? It HAD to be...it HAD to be...this girl was just too strong to be a measly academy student...
Goon number two yelled as he aimed a kick for the chest, only for him to be easily avoided, his body spinning about for a second strike, only for him to fumble in his panic, missing outright once more. Whyd did he suddenly feel like this girl's play thing...like he was just a puppet on a string? She was dancing around him so easily now, outta nowhere...what had changed? What had gone wrong..? And that got him to thinking...fearing, that maybe nothing had changed....maybe he was nothing more then a mere game from the start, just being toyed with...a mere diversion for her to mess with until he broke... but...no....this....this chick wasn't that bad...right...? He had to keep telling himself that.... even if he was starting to not believe it...
