With a sigh Takuya had tossed the knot aside for a while, relining back in his chair until the teacher returned. Of course he could have read the book, but at this point he was so frustrated that he saw no point in even trying to read the text. As other students were dismissed and the Tardy students filed in he glanced about the room lazily. Of course there was extra work for those who didn’t pick up the lesson as readily as the others. Looking at the frayed and tangled piece of rope on his desk he picked at it, once again straightening it out so he could make his attempt once more.
Although those who had picked up this trick had already left, Takuya took slight satisfaction in noting that like him there were few that could seemingly accomplish what was supposed to be a simple task. Looking at his hands he realized he probably did not have the dexterity to tie the knot, other than punches he had never utilized his hands when he was younger, mostly because he was sick so often. Hell, there was even a point in time where he had issues with his hand-eye coordination.

Quote: DC: 50-6+[(5+15)-10]/10=45 96-Fail He wasn't sure how he managed this. Jynn had tied a knot, that much was true. Somehow the rope had coiled around both of his hands and tied his wrists together. Jynn wiggled his wrists, trying to slide his hands from the rope. The boy growled softly as he brought his hands up. As if that would help anything. Jynn tried to reach over the rope and pull the knot undone with his fingers. But the end of the cord was just out of his reach. That didn't stop him from continuing to try, though. Jynn leaned to the side as he grasped at the rope, eventually falling over. The boy landed on to the wooden floor with a thud. Jynn blew a lock of hair from his face so he could see again. He cursed under his breath and bite the rope, grasping with the cord in his teeth. From there, it was the simplest thing in the world to tug the knot free. Jynn felt feeling return to his wrists as blood flowed back to his hands. The boy stood, holding his hands above him. “Don't worry. It's all under control.” he called out as he sat back down.

About halfway through attempting to tie the knot again, a sudden shriek cut through the rather quiet classroom. His head jerked up and he looked to the doorway before suddenly an alert came over the intercom. Students were hallucinating? It was only day one and even now there were weird alerts like this? The thought of some of his classmates hallucinating caused a grin to make it’s way onto his features as he looked down and took a few steps back in his rope tying. The sound of the scream had somehow invigorated him, and while he was curious as to what would cause the hallucinations, he knew he had to focus on the task before him.
Fingers worked the rope in his hands; he supposed maybe he had been applying too much strength before, causing the rope to kind and fray at the ends. He had at first, assumed that making the knots tight was what would have been what made them secure. But maybe he had been approaching the technique incorrectly. Thumbing through the book he ran his finger along the images, hoping to glean some information before turning his attention to the worn rope in front of him.

Hattori flipped ahead a few chapters, and chose his next knot to tie. This time, Hattori would make a Barrel Hitch. Hattori would have began right away, but then he realized that he didn't have a barrel to tie it with. Not at all dissuaded to tie the knot, he began to look around for something relatively barrel-like to hold with the Barrel Hitch.
The student began looking around, but all that he appeared to have on hand were pencils, erasers, and other non-barrel objects. Hattori looked across the room, and spotted the trash can. That could work... but I really don't feel like messing with a trash barrel. Not to mention, I'm sure Sensei wouldn't appreciate me turning in a trash bin with my knots. The young Fuuma smirked at the thought of setting the filthy trash can on the teacher's desk. It wouldn't be quite like placing an apple on his desk.
Then it hit him! He had a can of soda in his backpack! Hattori flipped open the bag and drew his can of Oto Cola. The can was placed on top of the rope, and then the rope was tied in an overhand knot across the top. He spread the knot and used the lines to embrace the Cola Can. He joined the ends with the Bowline that he had just learned just a moment before. With the can firm in the grip of the rope, he lifted the long end of the rope... and voila! The can rose successfully.
"Knot number four, complete!" Hattori whispered.

Perhaps he was onto something, looking at the piece of rope in his hands and then to the image of the first step in his book a smug grin over came his features. Untying the rope he began again, repeating the first step until he made sure he was looping everything properly. It took a few more tries (and a few more failures) but eventually his hands became comfortable with the motions required to complete the first step. Triumphant, over what seemed like an eternity of frustration he glanced to the book again, now it was time for step two.
While patience had never really been Takuya’s strong suit, the rope tying lesson had really put him at wit’s end. He was about ready to just leave the classroom but he knew that if he left and failed the first lesson he wouldn’t get away so easily from his father. Wincing at the thought of what his reaction to Takuya’s failure at something so simple as rope tying he worked as hard as he could. Flicking his thumb he then pinched the rope in between his fingers. Rolling the rope ever so slightly in his grasp he pulled and tugged until he believed he had arrived at the second step.

Sanyo sighed in relief as she had been successful in her first day at school. " Good bye Yoshi-Sensei-Sama", she chimed out before gathering her school supplies and taking her leave. Once in the hall something caught her attention a echoing laughter and a door not far away, the light above it was flickering. " That sure is creepy..." she commented aloud just as the intercom went off reporting some kind of rumor that seemed to have been going around. She spotted the over developed girl grasp at the sides of her head before running out screaming. The inuzuka that she was with during class, Loric, stayed behind and what was more he was sniffing the air? Well it made sense since he was an Inuzuka, they were supposed to have heightened senses after all. Sanyo founding herself mimicking the sniffing of the air but to no avail in terms of results, her nose wasn't nearly as heightened. Sanyo caught sight of a late comer who was also an Inuzuka, but rather then er on the side of caution she seemed to be rushing head long into what might be danger. " Hey, don't go in there! it's really creepy!" Sanyo chimed out after her aimless classmate coming up to the side of Loric as she moved after to try and stop the girl with her words. " What's up with that door?" she found herself questioning aloud. Though she was nervous around strangers she was more concerned about this mystery door. Quote: DC: 50-6+[(5+15)-10]/10=45 12-SuccessJynn rubbed his aching side and sat back down, frowning over the remaining ropes. Even though tying them didn't take too long, it still felt like he had been here for ages. He grabbed another rope and started to tie it, glancing up at the blond kid. Suddenly his vision focused on the movements of the kid's hands, watching him tie the rope. Jynn didn't even need to look down at his own, he could feel that his hands were following suite. Jynn's hands were moving more quickly now, tying the rope with a lot more ease than the other times. But, whether that was because of practice or because of his gift, the boy never knew. Jynn quickly got his fourth knot done and set the rope next to the others. The boy rocked back and closed his eyes, taking a few steady breaths. The headaches were fewer and farther between. It felt as if he has been reading fine print for an hour, his eyes throbbing behind their lids. Jynn opened his eyes and looked around. Some of the kids had gone, but it seemed like a majority remained. Jynn rubbed his hands together and set off to continue his work.

Placing the rope in the palm of his hand he glanced back to the book, if he said so himself his progress looked nearly exactly like the book. Maybe this patience thing had something to it after all. With a satisfied smile as much as it hurt him to take the knot apart, it seemed to be going well for him to repeat the ties. His hands were gaining mobility and his dexterity overall was improving. Not only that but as he worked his mind was connecting the dots. Albeit slowly, Takuya seemed to be picking up the lesson rather quickly now that some of the more annoying classmates had left and a hushed silence fell over the room.
Once he felt confident enough with the second step he exhaled, placing the rope on his desk and stretching his hands out. All of the repetitive motions were causing his hands to stiffen up, and glancing back down to the start of a knot he had on his desk he exhaled. Once more he looked back to the book, referencing the image and attempting the next step. Although he felt as if he was moving at the pace of a snail, progress was progress.

Hattori flipped to the last page of the knot tying book. The last chapter had some very intricate, but rather useless, knots. The knot that Hattori chose to tie was something called a 'Celtic Knot'. Whatever a Celtic is... They make some neat knots.
Fuuma Hattori read about the knot a little bit before starting. A small Celtic Knot mat makes for an excellent tablemat or hot pad. In this chapter, they provide a huge selection of designs. I gotta' say, some of these are quite elaborate. They're pretty artistic.
Hattori grabbed a rope and began to tie this special knot. The Celtic Knot was made using a specific over-under sequence. After the first strand was completed, the student continued the pattern just above the first set, then another after that. At the end of the knot, the two ends of his rope met at the start position. Perfect, five for five!
Hattori flipped the pages of his book again, then sighed, "I wish I wasn't late this morning. This rope-tying stuff is starting to get repetitive. I just keep getting it on my first try..." Hattori peered up from his desk at the Sensei at his desk. I might as well pass in what I have so far... before I start the next five... The ladder thought illicited an involuntarily eye roll.
Hattori stood up and gathered his first five knots; including the cola can holding Barrel Hitch, then approached the Sensei's desk. Hattori placed the tied-up ropes down on the desk.
"Here, I have five knots completed so far. I have the Square Knot, the Sheepskank, the Bowline, the Barrel Hitch, and the Celtic Knot. You can keep the soda if you want."

The boy immediately stood, to see what the commotion was. The act earned him a glare from the sensei, which made him sit back down. A low murmur passed over the students, the kids quietly discussing the event. Jynn set back to work on his knot, his motion exactly mimicking the other boy. He let his body run on auto pilot as his thoughts wandered. It wasn't any old coincidence what was going on. The principal did say something about children seeing things. Maybe there was some merit to the ghost story after all? It was possible that someone thought they saw something. The imagination is a wonderful thing after all. It was definitely something that the he would have to look in to. Jynn put his fifth knot down and cradled his chin in his hands. The air in the room was weighed down with a feeling of worry, suspense written over every face Jynn could see. Or maybe that was just how he felt. Either way, the boy couldn't do much of anything until he tied five more damned knots. Jynn grabbed a piece of rope and tried to shut the scream from his mind.

Quote: Progress: 2/10. Attempt 5 PC: 49 :: FAILStraining the knot in a manner suitable for normal struggling, Hizen’s hand cuff knot held fast, keeping the wrist facsimile scrolls trapped. YES! But I can’t get too cocky. That simple bowline took me several tries to get correct the first time. I need to take it slowly enough that I can get enough of these knots mastered to get a passing grade. Hizen untied his scrolls and prepared the twine to tie the hand cuff knot again. Carefully and precisely following the instructions presented in the book, Hizen succeeded in re-tying the hand cuff knot several more times. Feeling that he had mastered that particular knot, Hizen began flipping through the chapter, trying to decide which knot to attempt next. ”Hmmm… This one is for tying two ropes together. I should definitely learn this one. You never know when you need a rope longer than what you have, especially for scaling a cliff face or something.”Hizen retrieved two ropes from the knot tying kit, making sure they were similar sizes around, and began pouring over the instructions. Using the diagrams as a guide, he began tying the two cords together, hopefully securely enough that they wouldn’t separate when strained. (202 words)

Roswitha looked about her surroundings as she was being escorted. Two shinobi at each of her sides slightly ahead of her seemed to be leading her into a large structure of some kind. She glanced at the two of them disdainfully. She had on more than one occasion attempted to remove the strange thing they had forced over her mouth. She was still able to open and close her fang filled maw but eating anything would be impossible with it on. Her attempts at removing did not seem to please her two escorts. They had also placed something around her neck with a strange marking on it. She had attempted to remove it as well and while they didnt try to stop she couldnt manage to get it off. She looked back to her large black wolf walking by her side. They had put similar things over his mouth and and around his neck as well. At least her beetles were still free to move about. Not much could be done to their tiny bodies but then again the two of them were probably enough to keep her and her friends under control.
As they entered the two lead Roswitha down a corridor or two before stopping next a part of the wall that did not seem to made of the same stuff as the rest of the structure. She could smell it was made of wood but knew nothing else of it. She could also smell the scent of a number of other people nearby. It unnerved the redhaired feral girl. One of the two men looked at her then to his partner and whispered "You really think they'll believe shes a student?" The other shrugged. "Dunno, Im not ever sure if I think this is a good idea. Ah well, orders are orders." One of them then proceeded to lightly tap a clenched hand on the wood part of the wall before speaking in a tone that wasnt too loud but enough so as to be heard. "Uh, Yoshinaga-sensei, you in there?" The two waited for whoever this Yoshinaga person was.
Roswitha stirred uneasily. She had no idea what to expect or what she would be expected to do. Would she be able to do what they expected of her? What would these other people think of her. So far people seemed to suspect things of her. Gave her strange looks. Did she look strange to them? Did they look down on her? Was she not as much a human as they were? Thoughts and unease filled in her. It seemed like this short wait was taking an eternity for the non-human human kunoichi to be.

Somehow this next step seemed to confuse Takuya. Although he had attempted to follow the image exactly as demonstrated, something had gone awry. His knot was horribly mangled, looking less like a knot and more like some sort of braided jewelry. Sighing in frustration he leaned on one elbow, evening his face with the knot as he carefully picked at it to attempt step three once more. Takuya could have sworn that by the end of this practice he would have rope burns on the tips of his fingers simply from just undoing his failures.
With a grin though, he supposed that pain was perhaps the best teacher for failure. Laying out the rope on his desk it now refused to lay straight, having slight curves and bends from the continued knot making (and failures). Finger running along the page he scrutinized the image, glaring slightly as if it would make the book just tell him what he needed to know. He was fully aware that he could still read the book, but for him this was a challenge, he would figure this out on his own and when he accomplished his task then he would read the text, to see if his problem solving was actually correct.

Yoshinaga sighed heavily as he heard someone knock on the door. Putting his book down, he raised from his seat and lumbered over to answer the call. Completely unprepared for what he was about to see, the sensei doubled back and looked at the obnoxiously tall girl and then her two companions, "Yes?" What the hell were they doing here with that freak?
