Riku spotted the berry even though the smell was a dead give away. Shaking her head, she pulled her scarf closer to wrap around her mouth and nose to make breathing easier. Well wasting things wouldn't be helpful so she might as well take the seed. Digging one gloved hand in, she then ripped the berry apart and then wiping the precious seed clean of goo. Placing it in her pack wrapped in a cloth, she then tossed the glove in the crate. Good thing she always brought spares just in case. Pulling a spare glove out of her pack and putting it on, she then continued forward. Would she run into a rat this time?

Riku continued forward, walking through the tunnel once more. This always seemed to happen in her missions. She'd run into something or someone- have a battle and then things would be quiet for a little while. After that, the same thing would happen again. Sighing, she hoped to find a Rat sometime soon. This mission looked like it might be a long one.

Riku's path would once again become blocked...though by a much different sight then the child had originally witnessed. Dressed in military uniforms, two men wearing miner's helmets stood in front of the girl with shovels in their hands. The first was tall, broad shouldered, with a chiselled jawline and physic. There was little doubting this man was a veteran of some sort, even if he stood at the bottom of the ranks. The man beside him was significantly less impressive. Average height, spindly, and an expression which read far beyond shock at Riku's arrival...if this wasn't his first mission, it couldn't be far passed it.
"So they sent a fox n' tuh the mole hole! This is it kid, get ready!" The larger man said, slapping his companion on the back and nearly bowling him over in the process. The youth, practically a boy though clearly older then Riku, simply gulped and reached for a ball at his belt.
In tandem the pair would throw a PokeBall into the air, releasing the beasts inside and causing the girl's PokeDex to display a series of stats.

Riku stopped in time to see two people in uniforms. By the looks of the first person, he was an experienced fighter. The second seemed to be pretty young though older then Riku. The girl glanced at the pokemon and then looked at the stats. The odds were against them a little. She was worried but in the end would have no choice but to fight them. That was her assigned mission and she would stick to it. She released Ryuu and then watched as Yoshi leapt down to join him. Unfortunately Yoshi didn't know any water attacks at the moment..

"A'right kid! Time ta do what we do best!" The man barked, a sharp grin appearing on his stone cut features "Sarge! Ten hut! Dig dig dig!" The man barked like an old military commander. Spreading his claws the Drilbur's eyes would narrow, darting over to the Diglett ">Move you Maggot!<" The Drilbur barked, using a similar tone to his trainer.
"Y....y....you heard em Pickle!" The younger trainer called out, visibly shaking like a leaf. The Ground-Type would give a sharp ">Peep!<" Before disappearing beneath the ground, a much more subtle gesture then the rapidly flailing of claws from the Drilbur beside her. In an instant the two Pokemon would beneath the ground and it was anyone's guess for whom or from precisely where they would strike!

Riku looked at both Ryuu and Yoshi. She didn't need to say anything both would know what to do. The girl's violet gaze widened as she saw that the trainers pokemon were similar to their trainer. The Drillber was definitely demanding with the Diglett submissive. Yoshi would begin jumping back and forth while Ryuu waited watching for which way underground they would pop up from!

The earth would begin rumbling violently around both Pokemon, clearly their efforts had failed. The ground would begin to peak beneath Ryuu, mole hilling until the Diglett burst from the soil beneath the Larvitar's feet with enough force to send him toward the ceiling.
Meanwhile Sarge would burst from the ground much more abruptly then his partner, appearing at Yoshi's back claws raised to strike. Yet this provided an opportunity, with both digger's out to strike, they were also vulnerable to attack from Riku's team!

Riku looked at pair, worried. Things weren't looking so good for the first part but it was a little better. The attacks didn't look as strong this time. The girl spotted the Drillber heading towards Yoshi and then the other exploding under Ryuu."Ryuu go for it! Yoshi, watch out!" she shouted anxiously.
Yoshi had actually focused enough to exchange a look with Ryuu. It was an interesting look but a look all the same. The blue reptile actually leapt away from the Drillber attempting to accomplish something like a cartwheel pokemon style. As he rolled arms and legs spread, he aimed to slam down and Crunch onto the Diglett that had just popped out of the ground!
Even though the Totodile acted ridiculous most of the time, Ryuu saw the gleam of intelligence in it's eyes. It wasn't stupid though he wondered what kind of past life it had. The Larvitar was sent flying upward when the Diglett burst from below but he quickly righted himself. What went up must fall down. The Larvitar began plummeting aiming to Bite onto the Diglett and help Yoshi bring it down! Working together would make this battle a lot easier!

Ryuu's strike would succeed, his mouth snapping down hard upon the top of the Diglett's head and causing her to cry out in pain...but the sound would be drowned out by the cries of another. Blood splattered the ground as claw tore through scale, the Drilbur known as Sarge proving he was equally skilled at digging through flesh and sinew as he was the earth.
When the Drilbur was finished nothing was left of Yoshi save for a shredded corpse, the little reptiles face a blooded mess. A grizzly sight, and one Sarge seemed rather proud of. One single attack and he'd brought down his opponent for good. No number of Revives could save the reptile now...almost nothing could...almost...

Riku leapt into the battle towards Yoshi anxiously. No, no this couldn't be happening! The girl was crying as she lifted up his torn body. It just couldn't be...this hadn't happened. The girl's violet gaze was full of shock and sorrow. The pair had gone through so much together, it just couldn't end like this...

As Riku sat there, the corpse of Yoshi clutched in her arms, a strange glow would come from one of her pockets. The device the Professor had given the girl to deliver to the Engineer began to glow a bright minty green colour...and all at once time itself would seem to stop...and reverse...
(16 - 5) + (16 - 9) = 18

The Totodile's maw would miss, at the same time Sarge's claws would come up short, yet swipe with the force of a hit. It was strange, like the Totodile had a few inches back from the attack without realizing it.
For a moment Riku would find her vision had gone spotty, her memory hazy. Something at the back of her mind would tell her something had just happened...something significant...yet she would never be able to place it. Regardless, it seemed like a miracle had just occurred, negating the damage Yoshi should have taken. The device Riku carried meanwhile had lost all colour, looking like nothing but an ordinary rock placed inside a rather fancy container.
"What in the..." The larger of the two soldiers muttered, shaking his head briskly "Ya losin yer touch Sarge! Fix that! RAPID SPIN!" The man barked. Beside him the man's partner was shaking like a leaf, until the larger veteran elbowed him in the face "SAND-ATTACK!" He called, arms flying up, uttering a sheepish "What?" When the Vet glared at him.
The order given, Sarge would set to work. Twisting nimbly the Drilbur would actually land on his head, spinning rapidly like a top and steadily drawing closer to his target...Yoshi. The Diglett merely squeaked, darting into her hole and kicking up sand into Ryuu's face in the process.

Riku looked a little puzzled. Something had happened, she felt like she had missed something. There was definitely a fuzzy feeling in the back of her mind but she couldn't place it. Shaking it off, she just watched as both pokemon attacked. The girl felt extremely paranoid of Yoshi fighting. "Yoshi, watch out! Ryuu help him out!"
Yoshi watched as the Drillber began spinning. He began to jump or slightly hop back and forth. The pokemon was trying to keep light on his toes and hope speed was on his side.
Ryuu saw that the Drillber was fighting Yoshi instead of himself. Oh, so the teams had both decided to attack each other's weakest link. With this in mind, he ran or waddled as fast as he could. He wasn't paying attention to the sand attack but rather he was hoping to help block the oncoming attack from the Drillber!

The combined efforts of Yoshi and Ryuu would prove more then enough to halt the spinning Drilbur, but turning his attention away from Pickle would prove to be a mistake for Ryuu. Sand would spray in the Larvitar's face, catching in his eyes as stinging fiercely. He'd have more troubling aiming now that his eyes were watering.
Pulling back, the Ground-Types would stand their ground in a surprisingly simple defense.

Riku looked at the two pokemon, wondering what to do. For some reason, this time it looked like the Diglett was doing better after the pair had hit with an attack. "The other one!" she said, cautiously.
Yoshi charged forth, claws glowing silver. He exchanged a look with Ryuu and the pokemon knew that the Larvitar had understood the hidden message. He turned aiming to slash at the Drillber with Metal Claw.
Meanwhile Ryuu also charged at the Drillber. He was going to Bite down on the pokemon with his powerful jaws that could crush through rocks and earth.
