The blue ignored the green after his first initial croon and set about pick through the candidates. Unconcerned with the lack of attention given him he padded along and paused midway through a step. Craning his neck, he looked past one of the boys and backed up a step or two - slowly. It was obvious something had caught his attention. Shoulder his way through the line between him and the object of his desire, he sat down quite calmly before Brindi and tilted his head to the side, Where have you been hiding Brindimine? Hamanth was searching for you.The green cut a swath through the girls, spinning in her urgency to move and when nothing there satisfied her, she broke into a run and charged headlong into the boys as well. Knocking over one boy, she snarled and dug her claws into him as she trampled him underfoot and he lay there, motionless and bleeding, as she ran on. A moment later, she stopped and her eyes whirled white for a brief hearbest before she simply vanished Between. A great keen erupted from Brakiath and she shuffled in her place, curling around her eggs and hissing at the Candidates, eyes whirling red and orange as her mourning filled the Sands. At this disturbance, however, the Bountiful Egg was nudged and a sound of upset emanated from it as a green snout poked into the air. Struggling, a leg finally made it out, followed swiftly by a tail and then the rest of the new green. Brakiath immediately nosed the dragonet, the wind of her breath nearly knocking the unstable newborn over with a mewl. Calling out again, she clambered over the gold's tail, leaving a trail of goo, and toddled out into the Sands to stop and stare at the Candidates.

Akaya smiled at hearing S'koi's story straight from the source. "Yes, that does sound like both of you." Fanfare at Impression would've been quite strange, and Laith didn't really seem the type to have made a fuss short of another hatchling getting too near S'koi.
Akaya's breath caught in her throat as the green continued to fret, all claws and movement and even snarls. No matter how much the dragon unnerved her... No young thing deserved to die in such a way. And not only was the loss of a precious dragon sad, but the way Brakiath choose to mourn might mean further injury to the candidates that remained to try. But was the hope of another new life - another green dragon - enough to keep her mother in a good enough temperament to keep any further injuries at bay?

Oh no, that poor green... Roeline was very sad to see her go and even moreso when she heard the mother's keen. Nobody should have to watch their baby die... She wiped at her eyes for a moment before turning a concerned gaze back over to the boys. Was that one fellow on the ground alright?
But oh, there was another green out of her egg now. Please don't let this one go Between as well... One lost baby was already tragic enough.

At first, she was glad when the green finished with the girls and ran to the boys, but that relief quickly evaporated when she trampled one of them and disappeared between.
Would he get up? Would he be alright? Nawa looked on in distress, hoping that the boy on the ground wasn't dead. What was the point? Why had the green taken her misfortune out on the Candidates? It was bad enough that she had gone between, but if she'd killed a boy on her way, it made the waste of life even worse.

As a matter of fact Laith's tendency towards over-protection had started rather young, but fortunately it hadn't been 'needed' during the Hatching itself.
Though it seemed rather a lot of the Candidates currently down on the Sands could stand to have a bit of protecting. The way that green was running about did not bode remotely well... And sure enough, the dragonet disappeared Between. The poor thing. Understandably so, Brakiath mourned and went on the defensive with the remainder of her eggs. A development that would make things rather more tricky should any of the small eggs not hatch...

Syn gasped in horror as the green went between. She had known it was possible of course, especially when the green went rampant, but it was still just as saddening. What made matters worse, however, was the boy laying on the ground. Was he anyone that she knew? Was he okay or was the damage... permanent? Losing the hatchling was bad enough but losing a candidate as well only made the situation that much more depressing.
The girl stroked her green absently, as if reassuring herself that Gementh wasn't about to leave as well. 'Synmine I will never voluntarily leave you. My sister going between was sad indeed and I mourn her loss. I can only hope that the boy is okay and the rest of my siblings find theirs as I have.' Gementh reassured Syn and nuzzled her hand looking for more to eat.

When Cepheith addressed him, it did much more than his rider's annoyance had to snap Pipith out of his borderline-aggressive state. That was better. Now that he had the attention he wanted so badly, blue worked its way back into his faceted eyes, and some of the tension in his stance bled away.
Cepheith. His reply held a sort of mental purr, but anything he would have said after was interrupted by the keen from Brakiath. He echoed it with a low, mournful sound, marking the death of what would have been an impressive little dragon one day.
...I was, the bronze said eventually. His semi-disinterest in Hatchings and hatchlings was something he tended to exaggerate, and though the dragonet had been 'just' a green, she had still been a dragon. It was always sad to lose a dragon, whatever the age, and any of them could have so easily not made it past their hatching day, if Theirs had not been there.

Narisa felt her breath catch and brief panic seep into her mind. It was quickly replaced with that heartbreak at seeing a Hatchling flash between. She closed her eyes, hand seeking the comfort of her dragon as the gold keened the loss of a dragonet. And poor Brakiath! Narisa opened her eyes to look towards the senior gold. She frowned as Brakiath curled to protect her eggs.
<Cepheith...?>
The younger gold enveloped her rider in feelings warmth and love, extending the same to Brakiath. She crooned quietly, trying to comfort the mourning mother.
Please don't let anything else happen. Narisa silently pleaded. She really didn't want to have to be the one to inform Brakiath that some of those eggs might need assistance hatching. Yep, she was a little nervous once again.
...As was I. Cepheith replied to Pipith. But we've gotten another fine hatchling there! She stared at the green that clambered over her mother's tail.

Solath let out his own mourning keen as he felt his sister leave. Hers wasn't out there. I am glad that I found you, Mine. Freniar watched as the green had run through the boys and girls. He thought maybe she would of found Hers in the stands. Rare, but always a possibility. A sadness filled him as she went between and he touched Solath. "Come on, lets get some more in you before the others get over."

Ailin stood frozen in horror as he stared down at the injured boy. Only moments before had he been in the same position, yet he had gotten up. Ailin trembled from head to toe, was he supposed to do something? The boy couldn't possibly be dead. Ailin couldn't be standing next to a dead body. One that had been hopeful and high spirited only moments before. The mourning keen of the dragons turned into a ringing in his ears as all other noises were blocked from his mind.
.......................
Courath hung her head at her sisters departure, the high pitched keen of a hatchling joining the sad song as it echoed across the Weyr. Tears stung Dizzian's eyes as she, like those already Impressed clung to her dragon. ~ She is to be pitied and remembered with respect. There were none suitable to her needs. ~
"There were plenty of hopefuls there! Couldn't she have settled for someone?" Dizzian scrubbed her face on her sleeve. She'd seen it happen before and the question had always haunted her. For every hatchling that went between she'd felt like a failure. She hadn't been good enough, they'd rather die than choose her.
Courath's head tilted sideways as she gazed at her rider. ~ Could you have settled for anything less than I? ~ Peering into the bluegreen orbs and seeing the thin swirls of yellow in their midst caught Dizzian in their trance. No, she knew that had she not Impressed a dragon, a wher would never have been enough. A whole flock of flitters wouldn't have been enough. She herself may have asked to go between because living may not have been enough. For one so young Courath knew so well how to make her see the truth. She breathed deeply and her anger at the little distressed green, and to a lesser extent, all those who had passed before her eased some. Now that Courath was able to show her how it looked from the other side.
Still....a young boy lay motionless on the sands, felled for not being 'enough' for the late green.

S'kiro looked on with a Healers eye. While he wasn't trained for humans, he could tell from the area that the boy who went down from the green, was seriously injured, if not worse. Besides the loss of a dragon, there was also a possibility that the boy would never Stand again. He turned his eyes to the table and saw that Dizzian was holding onto the green. He knew how she felt, as all of those who had Impressed felt. There was sure to be talks about the size of this clutch and of the dragons. Things had to start getting better. Saykiromine, stop with the brooding. Relax and enjoy. He was given an image of being around a large group.

The little green hiccuped as she stood in place for a moment or two, wondering at the sorrow and joy that had permeated the air in seconds. Where her sister had mauled the boy, a trio of medics had arrived and were quickly rolling the candidate into a stretcher, compresses pressed to his chest as they hurried away. It was unclear if he would survive - though a guess might indicate otherwise.
Her nose turned from the girls to the boys and back again before she padded over to the boys and right up to Ailin. She nosed him, flexing her wings in a sort of draconic hug and churred at him, blinking up at him with big eyes before she moved on to comfort a similarly distressed soul. She had no impressed but it became clear she had an empathetic and caring heart.

Selene's gaze was fixed on the place where the hatchling went Between and the boy that was now being taken away on a stretcher. I hope he'll be okay... She turned her gaze down to the Sands then and bit her lip. A hatchling gone, it's mother's mourning cry still echoing in her head and the boy who had been hurt so badly the Healers had to take him. The joy she had felt at the beginning of this hatching was threatening to ebb away. If any more hatchlings go Between... I don't even want to think about it...

Lena winced as the violent green finally chose between to end the torment of not finding Hers, but the damage she'd left behind would not long be forgotten. No, even standing Candidate came with risks, as the boy being taken away might have the scars to show - if he survived, that was. There were plenty of others still in shape enough to remain on the Sands that'd bear marks from the green's brief fight to live. But she was relieved, like S'ren, that his sister was unharmed.
This new green though... She watched, curious, to see the dragon flex her wings around one boy and make a sort of comforting noise at him, then onto another. That was...sweet? A nurturing green? "Odds are she'll Impress a healer, eh?" she murmured to her companions in the Stands. Now the question was, would that be a male? Or a female?

The thoughtful little green's actions worked in snapping him from his state of panic. Ailin felt the warmth of the small wings envelope him and just just managed to brush her hide with his fingertips when she slipped away to the next victim of fear. He watched her leave, feeling that first stirring of longing within his chest. When he glanced to where the boy had laid, the healers had removed him from view. A short farewell song played through his head and his wingers twitched as if he held his lute. The young man's tragedy reminded Ailin how lucky he was to have breath in his lungs.
