Valor was out again, sharpening his searching skills. He knew Nolan would be fine with Nincada and that fishy fish, and truth be told, the Spark cat wanted to explore on his own. He hadn't much time to himself ever since he was captured, and it was still strange to see the world from inside a much larger and much more powerful body.

Valor jumped and leaped with joy, running and climbing, sniffing and searching - not just to find items, nor fossils, but to just enjoy the day and the latent power in his muscles coming alive. The Spark cat danced with electricity, seeing more, experiencing more, and never before had he been the Ruins when he was but a Shinx. The nice thing was that he found a Water Stone and an Upgrade to bring back as a gift meanwhile.

Chael found another Thunder stone. "Geez, I swear if I find one more Thunderstone, I'm going to flip." he muttered, only to see his Pokemon snicker a bit. This would get a bit annoying if he found another stone. He desired a magical monster from the Jurassic Era, not a yellow gem. As such he kept digging.

Once break time was over, Nolan returned all his pokemon back to their capsules, except for Valor and Dosu, still carrying the 22 pound fish. Nolan stood up, brushing off his pants and duster coat, making sure he looked presentable. He wanted to catch back up with Chael, remembering his plan to get some backup when Magikarp evolved - which felt like it would be any minute now. As frightening as that sounded with the Magikarp in question in Nolan's very arms.

It didn't take long to find Chael with his train of pokemon following behind him as he searched. Nolan just barely overheard the comment about the Thunderstone and he chuckled a little, feeling the same way about what was found so far. Walking over to his new friend (maybe), Nolan didn't know he had the same reaction as Chael's pokemon. But also he had a question burning in his mind, not being able to read minds for that matter.
"So what is it exactly that you're really looking for? You could have an awesome Jolteon if you wanted with that stone. They're powerful, even ... err, I guess not since you already have your Blitzle, right?"

He chuckled again, although, this time it was much more nervous sounding, embarrassed that he was talking before he was thinking.
"Yeah ... I should probably find a body of water or something. I don't know yet. The ocean is pretty close from here at least. But wait, did you ever go look for that missing pokeball?"

Nolan scratched the back of his head with his one free hand, wondering about a few things. Chael had had a lot to say.
"Do you still want to go see if you caught that weird pokemon or not? I bet between all our pokemon we could find an empty pokeball pretty soon. Or well, we could start walking back to Blyse to check the PC."
Yeah, there was a good reason Nolan was using a lot of 'we', and that had to go again back to Dosu finally evolving. He didn't want to be alone, even if he had his pokemon, he'd just feel safer with another person nearby. Damnit, where was Kiera for that matter?

Counting off on his fingers, he fired back the rest of his questions.
"One ... what's an Espeon and how does Eevee evolve into one? Two, there's actually fossils out here? That would be the bomb to get an Aerodactyl to fly on. And I think I'll be okay with a Gyarados on land, you're right. I just gotta remember to get out of the way."

Looking down at Dosu's big round eyes, Nolan added, "It's going to be insane how much bigger you're going to suddenly become, Dosu."
"Kaaaarp arp."
That made Nolan laugh again, before he sobered, remembering what else that evolution entailed.

(( Aw, I think I totally missed the joke. For what reason would we get trolled by legion? ))



Nodding slowly, Nolan saw the obvious wisdom in Chael's words, as well as wondering if he should take notes about Espeon and Umbreon, but he hadn't be lucky enough to find an Eevee, had he? Nolan let out a sigh, nodded one more time for good measure and had to pause again. He thought out loud this time.
"Other than battle ... or making a Magikarp super angry, how could I help Dosu evolve? I really don't want to get him into a rage. That sounds ... very dangerous and just plain mean."

"Arp."
Dosu wiggled in Nolan's arms, asking to be put down. Seemed the fish must have known on his own, making Nolan wonder again just how smart was Dosu anyway. And so he put Dosu down on the gravel and backed up a few steps, although, not too many. Never know if a bird pokemon was suddenly going to swoop in and snatch up his fish. Talking to Chael now, he continued,
"Well, I hope you do get your Soothe Bell. And thanks though, for agreeing to help out. It does look like Argos is going to get his fight in. Huh, Dosu?"

No reply this time from the Magikarp. Dosu had his eyes closed, concentrating, focusing, searching for that bit of dragon DNA that was planted in each Magikarp that ever lived. Nolan's face fell a little. It really did feel like he was saying goodbye to a very old friend, yet Dosu would never be happy as a Magikarp forever.

(( Still not sure what you're getting at, but I can be thick in the head. ... But yeah, you picked right by going for the Ditto instead of Spiritomb. You're gonna have all the eggs, once that system is implemented. ))



Now that got Nolan thinking. Who wouldn't want a Dragonair or a Dragonite? He didn't know any other pokemon that had that typing because of his lack of experience. Yet, Chael was saying a lot more than he might have realized, or was saying exactly what he meant to say. Nolan sounded incredulous as he felt,
"You don't want a Dragon pokemon? Why not? The only bad thing about them is that everyone knows their weaknesses, and that there really aren't that many of them. Not forgetting that they're hard to train."

Nolan glanced down at Dosu again, yet the fish was still motionless.

"Uh ..."
It was strange. Even though Chael was obviously younger than Nolan, eleven years old versus sixteen, Nolan found himself trusting the other kid's judgement. He was backing up before he really knew what was going on. But Chael must have seen it - Dosu was beginning to glow and those red-orange scales were turning a sapphire blue. Now Nolan felt like the bottom of his stomach dropped out. He wanted to scream at Dosu to quit it, but pressing B for a Magikarp would have been the most numb skull move in the history of numb skulls.

Dosu began to enlarge in size as soon as the bright glow enveloped his entire body, and it did not happen slowly as it had for Shinx and Snivy. The Magikarp all but exploded into a twenty-one foot high sea serpent and the release of mysterious energy was a fizzing deluge of light. The new Gyarados roared, arching his long powerful neck and his thick tail slammed into a large rock, shattering it in a single blow. Nolan must have made some kind of noise in there, because the Gyarados turned those crimson red eyes right on the tiny humans, then focused on the tiny Nolan.

The Gyarados lunged and snapped up the kid in his mouth like a scene right out of Jurassic Park. Rearing back again, the Gyarados was back to its full height, and Nolan was glimpsed for a second when the Gyarados tossed his head back, throwing the human up in the air and snapping those jaws again around him. Nolan's pokemon were stunned beyond belief, but the rage that was suddenly on Valor's face was enough to intimidate the huge thrashing Gyarados for a moment. Then it became obvious ...

Nolan wasn't being eaten. Dosu hadn't killed him, no. The Gyarados was just celebrating, dancing, and ... hugging Nolan with his mouth. In fact, the rattled trainer could be seen trying to squirm out of the monster's mouth, unharmed yet extremely frightened. Valor understood that right away and started jumping and celebrating right along with Dosu, lashing his star tail and yowling happily.

Dosu roared in reply to Chael's question, and he'd only be able to guess what that really meant. Fear would know otherwise, because he had said, "I can see my house from here!" And in the history of Gyarados, maybe they all really did have a good sense of humor. It's just that humans couldn't understand.

Nolan was shaken even more, being the one in Dosu's mouth but it gave him the chance to fall out. Caught by the Gyarados's tail, that was finally at last the sign that Nolan took that Dosu didn't mean him any harm at all. Coated in saliva, he slid off the finned tail of the sapphire beast and was now laughing hysterically. He couldn't even stand, he was that shaken and that overcome with relief and happiness.
"Oh Arceus, that thing is really ... is really D-Dosu."

It didn't just stop there either. Busting out of his pokeball, Nincada had gone off somewhere on his own in the chaos, finding an excellent spot to finally create his cocoon. But he was no Metapod nor a Kakuna. Nincada's skin hardened into a dusky brown, and the new bug came bursting out of the back of the old Trainee pokemon's shell. Nolan was soon joined by the buzzing Ninjask hovering over his head, making sure he was alright. And trailing behind, was the strange floating husk - the Shedinja.
