In the time it took him to react to the sudden monstrous assault, Emily stepped up like some kind of dark angel Joan of Arc. Dodge and weave, dodge and weave... Ok, she mostly just slapped it around a bit. Ew, it looked slimy.
JD was impressed. This ghoul did not muck about.
Unfortunately the hellbeast seemed to finally sense that the assault was being conducted by something that was relatively shapely, underdressed, and decidedly female. Its retaliation was as immediate as it was disturbing. Oh dear. It was tempting to take this golden (ahaha) opportunity to move in line for a possible pantyshot as his squadmate dangled in midair. But that would probably qualify as BAD PRESS, and after all, she had jumped in defense of the sad remains of her JD effigy.
Its death made him a tiny bit sad.
So instead, JD came in swinging, delivering a punch that very nearly grazed the ghoul but hit a tentacle instead. GO TEAM, etc.

And now a swift kick to the shin! Did tentacles even HAVE shins? JD hoped so.
"Are you ok?" KICK. "Can you, like, breathe, or whatever?" Kick.
It was clear from his tone and word choice that he was radiating concern.

Then the tentacle snaked past him, slapping at the Real Fake Dead Bird who was Shot Through the Heart.
JD was to blame. He'd nearly missed the thing. Jackdammit.

Trying for a different tactic, he gripped the tentacle at the point at which it entered their team's 'zone'. He wrapped his arms and legs around it and contorted weirdly, trying to snap it in half.
He didn't manage, although it looked like his bootheels carved deep gouges in the thing's flesh. Meanwhile, his loincloth flew about, concealing and revealing at random. The tentacle shuddered and retreated visibly.
It probably didn't like the show.

JD leapt off it and punched it right in a sucker. What a sucker, the tentacle probably thought as it lifted him by the arm and threw him into his own castle. Luckily he managed to merely glance off the Bird Who Lived.

JD was getting tired from all this punching and leaping and flailing about. Perhaps it was time for a new strategy. He started chewing at one of the offending tentacles that snaked across her chest.  He hoped this beast realized that Every Rose Had It's Thorns.

It was probably a good thing that Herryk really had no idea what JD said. His face just kind of screwed up in a frown as he took fifteen minutes to figure out what JD was trying to get across before he gave up. While he pondered it, Herryk watched Emily and JD beat on the krakencle. Not the smartest of boils. Not in the least. With a mighty bellow borne from the frustration of ' not knowing what the ******** JD was trying to say' Herryk threw himself mightily at the beast. And then what happened was that Herryk started to really, really think about what JD meant. Tetahtet? What did that even mean?!Suddenly he kind of realized what was going on with Emily and the monster. It kind of freaked him out. So he punched the monster again. Carefully, though. Zar wasn't afraid of the damn tentacles, nope. If anything he was more afraid of looking a coward in front of the spectators. Spectators which may or may not include his father in there. So with a snarl, he charged forward to leap onto the tentacle and sink his claws into it with as much force as he could muster.

And again, despite its swinging and flailing he gave it a fairly vicious clawing up, he wasn't a fighter really, but that didn't mean he couldn't handle a little tentacle. He was an incubus for Jack's sake, tentacles were probably just an environmental hazard.

Tentacles were slippery though, and more than once he almost fell off, the thing swiping dangerously close to their castle.
