Late in the evening, as conversations lulled into a brief hush -- the band taking a break -- a microphone crackled and squealed loudly, leaving most of the dancers wincing. It did, at least, serve to get their attention, so that the warning could cut through the crowd and start a mass movement toward the door:
"A word of warning, especially to anyone who might be here
less than legally --" Tone dry, eyes not quite rolling, "-- someone's given us a heads up that sirens are on their way, and the police could be here quickly. You might want to
get the hell out."
Eyes scanned the crowd as it broke up, as the underaged or the less-than-sober found their way to the back door in an unruly mob. Hopefully the Officers, at least, would have the brains to move out in a more organized fashion, choosing back doors or waiting until the stampede died down before easing out. The cops would find a mostly-empty space when they arrived on scene; lingering equipment and decorations, only the totally wasted or really stupid lingering to get nabbed and questioned. The rest had run.
Twenty minutes, maybe a little bit more, and the officers could gather at the pre-determined meeting point to hand over their spoils. Ilmenite's eyebrows raised at the somewhat pitiful turnout from some of them, and even flashed a grin at Benoitite -- the only one who he'd personally witnessed being duck-marched out of the party. Well. Perhaps next time he'd have better luck.
Chromite, however, got a wider smile, friendlier, a solid shake of hand and a glitter in his eyes. She had after all, drained not only the most energy, but had targeted several
negaverse officers, he'd heard, and even if they'd been out of uniform, there was something impressive there. Hers was a victory well-deserved.
