The hatching had certainly started with a bang...a rather sad one really and while Mercy and Aerith had mourned the loss of such a lovely little creature - it was a terrible thing to have a bronze hatch first only to be lost without his lifemate. It was not the sort of start she had been hoping for given the way things had been lately, it would have been nice for this clutch to be devoid of such sadness.

But even in the face of such a loss the hatching had continued and it was hard to be too sad for too long when so many other pairings were made successfully, some sturdy looking hatchlings had been added to the Weyr's furture dragon's and while she still crossed her fingers for those she knew below without a partner yet both she and her white cheered on those who had found their's.

She waved to Wykla when she spotted her friend waving to her and sent a smile towards Kleos as well though she wasn't sure if the other rider saw or not with most everyone's attention on the sands below.

With each new impression another rider was born. With each hatching shell and pair that walked off the sands Pern's chances of survival grew. These candidates were the future of their world. The protectors of Pern and all that stood between it and thread was a fragile army borne on dragon wings. Cyrci had feared thread her entire life. It was a horrible monstrosity that struck all young and old, rich and poor. It was not like a storm nor an enemy with a knife. It struck now with little to no warning and the only weapon against it was dragon flame.

Cyrci was sick of hiding behind stone walls when she wanted to fight. She was not one to run and hide or skirt a battle, but face her enemy and her threat head on. Yet even she knew that without the aid of a dragon other she might as well be bailing buckets of water from the beachy sands for all the good she would do.

With each new impression a cold fear settled in her gut. Would she be left? Abandoned, forsaken and alone? No, no that couldn't and wouldn't be. She would stand and if she did not find her other here then she would stand again and again until she walked away no longer alone.

There were other girls around her, big girls, little girls, timid girls, bold girls, old girls and young girls. All hoping all wishing, all waiting. She would will, she would climb, she would not fail nor fall.

Lifting her eyes she caught the brief sight of her brother in the stands. She would have a dragon to match his wher. Yet no one knows what a dragon looked for in a rider. Which left the usually straight forward girl without her usual fighting and striving approach forcing her to take a back seat and wait.

She was growing to really hate waiting.

Enyo watched and smiled as each egg was now hatching and the young dragons were finding their others. She started counting how many eggs were left, she has a habit of trying not to jinx herself though she knew her chances of impressing would grow smaller as the more the hatch-lings took their others and left their shells behind.

Enyo stopped humming her song and started to think of how to settle on a talent; she didn't want to put her hopes up to high this turn since the last turns she did and found herself with out.

The Hatching was going well. Beside the brown and green, a couple more greens hatched. The sands were getting busy. Hopefully no one would get in each other's way. A boy left the candidates to go to the brown, and the greens were searching for theirs. One Impressed to another boy.

Wykla grinned when Mercy waved back. With things so busy at a hatching, it was easy to miss things on the Stands. She settled back with her flits crooning in her ears to await the next joinings and cracking of shells.

As her sister Impressed the Gritted Teeth green gave a nervous hum, a bit of yellow swirling in with the hungry red of her eyes. Coming up beside her the Streaked Sleeper chirped and gave her a nudge; why the worry? Apparently a little reassured, but still holding herself uncertainly, the Gritted Teeth started off towards the girls when given another nudge by her sister.

Having sent her sibling on her way the Streaked Sleeper paused to rub at an itch on her foreleg before raising her head to peer around the Sands. After some moments of thoughtful humming she set off at an unhurried walk after her sister, offering gentle chirps on the occasions the more nervous hatchling paused and looked over her shoulder.

On finally reaching the girls the Gritted Teeth seemed to grow more uncertain again and tucked in her wings and tail, making herself as small as possible. Giving a hopeful but nervous warble she looked up at the ranks and ranks of girls, seemingly trying to decide what to do next.

There were currently just the two hatched greens on the sands. The calm streaked sleeper egg and the rather nervous gritted teeth egg as the pair searched for their others. Cyrci thought it was rather kind how the streaked sleeper had reassured her sister before sending her on her way. Maybe with the newfound confidence the little green would be brave enough to collect her own from the still decent sized crowd of girls on the sands.

Glancing around Cyrci did the math looking over the unhatched eggs and counting the dragons just as she was mentally counting the other candidates on the sands. There were still many of them, both eggs and dragons. Perhaps the Delicately Deceptive was just waiting for the proper time to make it's grand entrance into the world.

After all the little black egg had certainly seemed the type to come in with a bang. She'd also probably have to be careful when the little creature did crack it's shell just in case whatever lay inside decided it needed to test it's teeth first. So far almost all of the eggs that had hatched had been peaceful. A fact Cyrci didn't doubt all the candidates were grateful for.

'I do hope the nervous green finds her's soon' Aerith commented from her place among the ranks of dragons and glancing up at the gathered horde Mercy spotted the little white curled in a spot as close to the sands as she dared to get..there were some advantage of being small now wasn't there Mercy thought to herself with a bit of a chuckle.

'I'm sure that she will' Mercy assured the white although she found herself hoping for the same thing - it would be terrible to loose a second hatchling between. 'perhaps she is just overwhelmed, there are a lot of people down there' she pointed out having noted the way the little beast was trying to make itself smaller.

Zeren watched the two greens left on the sands, true that in terms of rank, Greens were often seen as the lowest but they were also the fastest and best at turning fast in the air, Zeren wasn't one to aim big, but he knew he was going to age out soon so every hatching was a battle of hopes, dreams and realities. He almost willed the greens to come to him, or rather.. one of them.. he couldn't imagine two dragons Impressing one person... that would just end in disaster.

Another Green Impressed, though this one was with the boys, and there were two more on the Sands, both heading her way. Orlina, like many other girls around her, watched them come and noted every encouragement her sister had to give to the cringing Green. Poor baby. She needed someone to support her and she was starting to look nervous. Orlina crossed her fingers.

Please don't let there be another dragonet lost between. Her heart ached as she thought of the Bronze again and her face fell without her realizing it. She had never been very good at hiding her emotions; usually, she didn't have to. Orlina was the open, friendly type. It was how so many people in the weyr ended up knowing a girl who should just have been another weyrbrat.

Enyo had looked to the chirps and to the nervous little green; she knew that it must be scary to see all these girls standing so tall. She wondered if the little one was afraid of the height every one looking at her had. Though Enyo cleared her thoughts trying to see if she could impress the shy one.

Singing a soft song of home and love in her mind she waited to make eye contact so she could give a soft and friendly smile.

Orothor's eyes swept the eggs, looking for the next to Hatch. He was cataloging each color as it Hatched, though he hadn't participated in any of the egg guessing games this year. He wanted to see how many of each color hatched. He feared the lost Bronze was the only one in the whole batch, but they had had two Browns. It was a long shot they would have another, but it was possible. He was betting on another Blue, at least. One Blue seemed like too few for a Clutch. The Greens, however, were noticeably coming out of the woodwork. Only seven unhatched eggs remaining, and some of them... he had doubts about them hatching without some help. Malvren always had at least one that needed help.

The remaining Greens were headed for the girls, which left the boys temporarily without any wandering dragonets. Orothor guessed the other boys were as focused on the rocking eggs of the Clutch as he was, but it was a passing awareness. Would one come to him this time? If not, Orothor had other options. He had been considering what else he could do if his parents' genes didn't play out as far as dragons were concerned. Not that he had told his friends what he was up to, but Orothor always thoroughly investigated a problem before he came to a decision. Four Hatchings in, it made sense for him to look at other angles for his future.

The Gritted Teeth green continued to hover in front of the first rank of female candidates. Giving another uncertain hum she stepped forward and looked up at the nearest pair of girls, apparently wanting to pass but unwilling to brush against them. Would they move out of her way? She hoped they would move out of her way.

The Streaked Sleeper joined her sister then and - after glancing between the other green and the girls for a few moments - gave each of the candidates a gentle shove. With her way thus cleared the Gritted Teeth crooned softly in gratitude and set off amongst the girls, hoping very much that the rest would follow the first pair's example.

With her sibling's worried taken care of the Streaked Sleeper stretched comfortably, shook herself, and then turned away from the girls, heading slowly for the boys. It took her a while to get there at her leisurely pace, but for all her slow steps she seemed quite purposeful as though she already knew where she was heading, perfectly secure in her destination. As she sat down in front of the ranks of males, one boy abruptly knew that this was very much the case.

Are you ready Zeren? Your Kataith could do with some food when you are.

Even though everything was calm, Ralla was tense as she watched the greens move about and find their riders. She shifted her weight and crossed her arms, watching the greens and the remaining eggs. She hated being so idle, unable to do anything but stand and wait. It went against her nature to be so passive, but there was nothing to be done for it.

Come on, come on...it was wearing on her, and the girl was becoming impatient. She scuffed her feet around in the hot sand, waiting for another egg to hatch, waiting for something to happen.

It seemed his willing was working, after parting a few of the girls for her more nervous sister, one of the greens now headed towards the boys, making a beeline towards the front row, just in front of where he was standing. Zeren held his breath, could it?.. maybe this one....

Are you ready Zeren? Your Kataith could do with some food when you are

Yes! Zeren sagged and let is breath out all in one go, he pushed past the boys in front of him, mumbling some sort of apology. "Kataith, her name is Kataith" he announced respectfully to Eirlyn and Panth, giving them the briefest of bows before turning and leading Kataith away "Sorry, i'm ready let's get to the tables" he murmured to her, reaching out in his mind with the words too, testing it out carefully. Kataith paced beside him, not quite rushing but eager to get food into her emtpy stomach.

He watched the two greens, one seeming to be rather shy - a feeling he obviously knew quite well. But her sister was there to nudge her along and help her out. Azylrin thought it was the most adorable thing ever! It seemed like the two greens were searching among the girls at first. But then one of them headed their way. It looked like she'd just been making sure her sister was alright before moving along. That excited, adrenaline like feeling returned as the green moved leisurely yet with purpose. And then she sat down in front of them, though she seemed focus on one person in particular. Was that another Impression then?! Yep, it was! He grinned at the new pair, getting up the courage to offer a quiet, "Congrats! She's beautiful." To them before seeming to fall back into his shyness.
