The piano broke off...
"'Cos we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl!"
...and started anew, the two songs blending seamlessly thanks to the helpful link provided by Diamonds.
"Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me, I think they're okay~
If they don't give me proper credit, I just walk away~"

Evelyn and Cressa sang together flawlessly…“They can beg and they can plead But they can’t see the light, that’s right.” Then, suddenly Cressa broke off and Evelyn sang the next lines alone, to Jessie, tapping him with her hips, a sly smirk on her lips. “‘Cause the boy with the cold hard cash Is always Mister Right”

Jessie raised his eyebrow up at her, a similarly mischievous look in his eye. Cressa, always up for a little bit of "let's-torture-Jessie," abandoned the piano, turned and flicked herself up onto his lap, where she sat kicking her long legs with her arms around his neck. She sang the next lines with her mouth altogether too close to his for propriety.
"'Cos we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl~ Living in a material world, and I am a material girl~"
Then, with a teasing wink, she slid off and got up to dance with Evelyn. "Some boys try and some boys lie, but I don't let them play~ Only boys that save their pennies make my rainy day! 'Cos they are living in a material world, and I am a material girl, you know that we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl."
A couple of excited whoops from the crowd told the girls first that something unusual was happening. Then, a pair of strong arms wrapped themselves around their waists. Cressa gave a little squeal as Jessie practically lifted them both a couple of inches off the ground, setting them back down again almost immediately.
"Three can play at this game, you know!" he said, loud enough for everyone to hear, "Girls may come and girls may go, and that's alright - you see, experience has made me rich, and now they're after me!"
This was almost too much for the girls in the crowd, who shrieked and squealed in adoration. Taking both Evelyn and Cressa's right and left hands respectively, the girls spun out to the sides, before returning to the middle - to him.
"'Cos everybody's living in a material world, and you are all material girls, You know that we are living in a material world, and you are all material girls~"

Evelyn moved in and kissed Jessie on the cheek before pulling away and laughing. Evelyn was so excited. She hadn’t been able to play a character since before coming to the Order. Laughing her way out of character, she hesitated. She glanced over at Cressa to see if she was moving away from Jessie, in order to follow her lead.

With a grin, Jessie turned his head towards Evelyn and responded to her peck on the cheek with a small brush of his lips against hers. More screams from the crowd.
Again being the one to take everything just that much further, Cressa put her hand on his neck and, as he turned to her in response, kissed him much more deeply. His little peck for Evelyn suddenly looked like a kiss one might give to one's grandmother!
"HEY!" said Gloria, leaping to her feet - though nobody heard or saw her, except Adeline. "HEY. IF I KNEW THERE'D BE FREE KISSES, I WOULDA GOTTEN UP THERE TOO!"
"Oh, sit down," she laughed, "I'm sure he'd be happy to give you one later!"
"Oh yeah? What do you wanna bet?"
"Well... I'm all out of clothes..."
Suddenly, another familiar introduction boomed out of the speakers, causing both Jessie and Cressa to flinch and break away, their sensitive hearing assaulted from several different angles.
"OUCH! Ye'th bit mah thongue!"
"Sorry...! Sorry!"
"It's okay, I'll live..!"
The culprit, standing over by the karaoke machine, mic held aloft, was Lorika. With a grin at her friends, she sang the first line of her chosen song.
"Man! I feel like a woman!"

Evelyn reacted her first kiss with a grace that people sing about. Or not.
Jessie’s arm was still wrapped around her waist as he proceeded to make out with Cressa.
During those few brief moments of awkward “I’m-held-hostage-while-they-snog,” Evelyn thought. Was it strange that she got her first kiss at the age of nineteen? Her mind flashed to classmates of hers…who were already on their second children. Yes. It was definitely weird. Her own mother was pregnant with her second child by this point. A brief nanosecond was spared on her thought of being able to get out of any stage kisses as well. Even when she place Romeo in Romeo and Juliet. Hm.

"I'm going out tonight, I'm feeling alright, I'm gonna let it all hang out~
Gonna make some noise, really raise my voice, yeah I wanna scream and shout~
No inhibitions, make no conditions, get a little out of line~
I ain't gonna act politically correct, I only wanna have a good time~"
As she sang, she was making her way across the stage to her friends, who rallied around her for the next part.
"The best thing about being a woman Is the prerogative to have a little fun and-"
Jessie joined in, harmonising with the chorus.
"Ooh-oh-oh-oh! Go totally crazy, forget I'm a lady, Men's shirts, short skirts. Ooh-oh-oh-oh! Really go wild, yeah, doing it in style.
Ooh-oh-oh-oh! Get in the action, Feel the attraction-" (Cressa ran her long fingers down the length of his jaw.) "-Colour my hair, do what I dare! Ooh-oh-oh-oh!"
"I wanna be free, yeah, to feel the way I feel..."

Evelyn had already happily stepped into a new character for this. She threw her arms around Lorika’s neck and sang along.“MAN! I feel like I woman.”

The room was ready to burst at the seams from the excitement that filled it. The brown-haired girl felt it, but at the same time, was incredibly upset that she was not a part of it. It was at this time that she decided to leave and go to bed. She was quite sick of not being acknowledged.
This place is teeming with fun, but not for me, the girl thought as she headed for the door. Opening it, she took one last look at the party.
But don't worry, I, Glee Harmony, will definitely be back, and my star will finally shine!
As she exited the room and the door closed behind her, another door in another part of the Temple closed as well. At that very same time, another person had made an important decision.
~~~
The excitement had finally gotten to her. The laughter, the cheering, the music...mostly the music. The being could never keep away from music for too long. She was like that. The music would always draw her out, no matter how much of a recluse she was.
As she turned to leave, she made sure to take her book of compositions with her. It never left her side despite it being almost unnecessary. Sighing, the being took one last look around the room. All of the instruments around her were gleaming in the moonlight, but none gleamed brighter than the piano and the organ, she thought. But that could be because she was biased. The piano reminded her of the one back home, the one she'd learned to play on when she was a child. And the organ...the beautiful pipe organ that resembled the one she'd lost...but even that was a distant dream. A memory long gone.
"Well, this is it," she said. "The guests upstairs probably won't accept me, but...at least I can say that I tried."
The being pushed open the doors and stepped into the light, revealing not a monster but a young girl dressed in old-fashioned clothing.
The morning after the party, Jessie sat up in bed, wide awake as always after a few hours of deep sleep. His dreams had been filled with memories of the party. Those last few hours after Cressa had dragged him up onstage had passed in a haze of excitement and merrymaking. He rather wondered if he might have overloaded his circuits. It wasn't often he had such a large amount of fun. He never would've been capable of letting loose in a room full of strangers. He'd danced, he'd kissed women (and they'd kissed him), he'd sang in front of everyone he knew and loved.
He should be feeling guilty by now. But he wasn't. His head just swam with the pleasant after-effects of a night well-spent with friends and family.
Speaking of friends and family, Cressa was sitting at the vanity table to his left, brushing her short, stylish bob of hair. Their room was one of the most highly customised of all the basement rooms, thanks to the ease with which Cressa's magic could modify her surroundings. The colour of the walls was a deep, rich plum colour, which was very easy on the eyes for those adapted to living in caves, but still appealing and elegant. The darkwood furniture hadn't been touched, but alongside it lived Cressa's odd assortment of items she'd collected in her travels - strange, mystical relicuarys; fetish statues that seemed to whisper in the dead of night; a large koto-like harp instrument that hung on the wall; crystal balls and runestones scattered all over the desks, rosary-like divining instruments and bowls; various decks of tarot cards; an ouroboros, and other unsettling hermetic symbols all clustered together in the corner; as well as many, many others. In addition, they had a bookcase crammed to bursting with tomes, as well as more stacked up against the wall by the desk. A couple of ornate swords and daggers stood propped up in the corner by the door to the bathroom, as well as a small hand-axe whose blade, had it been in the light, would catch and dance like a flame. These were the remnants of Jessie's previous collection of artefacts - not that he minded. He'd had too many before anyway, really.
"You overslept," Cressa said, watching him in the mirror, "Gloria already came knocking."
The captain looked puzzled for a moment. "But I cancelled drills today..."
"She and Ardelle went by themselves. Nothing stands between them and their routine, you know that. Gloria said she felt dirty after drinking so much last night. She swore she'd never touch another drop."
"That's for the best," Jessie agreed.
"For stupid sticks-in-the-mud, maybe. Gloria's a lot more fun when she drinks. So are you," she replied. Laying down her brush, she tossed her head from side to side, making a face. "Sometimes I wish I'd never started cutting my hair. Today I could really go for some long, flowing curls. But I can't! I'm stuck with the same old style every day...!"
Jessie got up out of bed as she spoke and walked past where she was sitting, giving her a little touch on the shoulder out of familiarity as he went. "Then grow it out again."
"Oh, you men think you're so logical, but all you do is state the obvious."
"We have to state the obvious, because women are too illogical to see the obvious course of action for themselves," he teased, pushing the door to the bathroom open. Halfway through, he paused and turned his head around to face her. "If I try and have a bath, will you come bothering me?"
"Is that an invitation?" she grinned.
"No, just a question. Will you or will you not?"
"How long have we known each other? OF COURSE I'll come bothering you!"
After a long pause of mock-thoughtfulness, she cocked her head to the side. "Oooooor maybe not. Depends how I feel when you get in there~"
With a little laugh, Jessie turned back around and headed into the ensuite. "I think I might just take my chances this morning."
[~9:45am]'Too close. I nearly died how many times in that crowd? 25 seems about right. I really should have just flown out of there.....but that would be impolite. Why do people like those parties, and that dancing....heck, all of it? Such a waste of tim.....crap. I'm probably late. Cressa's going to make me clean out the jars again, no doubt. I need to get an alarm clock....or make one. That would be fun. STOP IT, I need to get to the Temple! No time for idle thought but it's so much fun!.'Thus began another one of Xeiashi's mornings out in the beach-hut. The night before, he had fled the party as soon as possible and returned to his house a short walk away. He then got caught up in cleaning the contents of DeskBot (potions don't like being shrunk, he noticed), and attempted to create a new battery for the second generation of HelpBot. Before too long, it was well past midnight, and with drawn shades and much new clutter, he had gone to sleep, only to wake up at some point to the sounds of day-things. "I should really just get a room in the basement. That would be a heck of a lot easier than going through this every morning." he muttered to himself as he pulled on another sorta-clean robe and packed the day's tools and books into DeskBot. 'I would also be a lot closer to the laundry...the ocean water is shredding these a bit more with every passing day' he thought as he shrunk the dutiful robot and trekked to the Temple. A quick question to a wandering acolyte told him that it was about 9:45. Hopefully Professor Cressa was running late again. Then again, with the party, she undoubtedly would be. He had heard noise from the Temple well past the time he decided to get some sleep, and his teacher was never one to leave a party early. "Aww....and I missed breakfast, too...I hope they have leftovers...."
The sun was bright in the morning off of the coast of Isle De Gambino. Atlae and his parents had arrived at the beach house the day before, and unpacking had just finished. This was the first time Atlae had ever been to the beach, he had never been near the ocean before. It was so expansive, as if the sky had fallen on top of a desert and was fighting to rise again. Atlae had to go out and explore. Even though it was a bright and beautiful day, he wore his usual skin hiding attire. That meant that there was no swimming until nightfall.
Walking up the beach was an exciting experience. The sand was soft and warm, it made it hard to walk and soon Atlae was feeling sweat bead up on the back of his neck under his hood. Sitting under a stray umbrella helped cool him off for a bit, but he was off shortly after stopping. It wasn't long before he came across the boardwalks of Isle De Gambino. See stands set up gave him a good excuse to get some ice creme and continue on his way. It wasn't long until he saw the white glare of a building in the distance.
As he approached the building, he could tell it was the same as he heard in the stories. A building that stands off by itself on the beach and was a bit tacky. Although it didn't seem tacky to him, just a tad extravagant. Though being raised in a mansion for a few years must have desensitized him a bit. Although he had no intention of being social today, he went to the door and knocked anyway. After all, there was no guarantee that this was the place he heard about. There's only one way to find out.
Henry Harper stepped out of the plane, a distinct frown on his face. He was extremely tired, extremely touchy, but also extremely accomplished. It had taken some time for it to all come together, but it had. It was hardly five in the morning, and he had nothing on his mind except sleep. On autopilot, he climbed into the golf cart that took him to his house, and walked through to his room, being stopped several times by various assistants, all attempting to ask him something, or inform him of something. His only response was “If it’s important now, it will be important after I sleep.”He kissed his wife on the cheek, threw himself on the bed, and fell into a deep sleep.
***
In what felt like a few seconds to poor, sleepless Henry, his mother was opening his window and pulling the covers off of him.
Curses flew from his mouth. “Who the ******** is waking me?” “Watch it, or I’ll wash your mouth out,” Claire said with a smile.
Maia turned over and looked at her husband, “Oh, hello, honey, when did you get here?”
“Not now, love,” he said, patting her head as he sat up to address Claire. “What is it, mother?” “There’s been a war over at the Order. Evelyn’s sa—”“WHAT?” Claire sighed. She should have told him Evelyn was safe first. Oh, well. This would be fun to watch play out. Old women need fun sometimes too.
Besides, it served her granddaughter right for not sending her anything in three weeks.“I said that there was a war over at the Order. Inter-dimensional thing. Quite complicated.”“MY BABY GIRL!!! MY PRINCESS!!!!!” Henry was already out of bed and down the hall. “YOU THERE, CALL THE ALTONS.” Claire and Maia shared a look, sharing silent words about the man they both loved so much. Evelyn was in for a hilarious—at least for Claire—surprise.
Evelyn woke up, only a few hours after the party ending. However, thanks to her wonderful little potion, it felt as if she had slept for a day. A wonderful, dreamless sleep. Her first dreamless sleep since the nightmare world.
She threw back her covers and jumped out of bed, feeling more refreshed than she had in ages.
Quickly she skipped across the room, opening her dresser and magicked her shower things to float behind her, before flouncing out into the hallway.
That morning, if anyone was actually awake to hear her, they would hear her belting Paramore’s “Brick by Boring Brick” with a muffling charm hastily cast—less effective than a silencing charm, but takes far less concentration.
Evelyn bounded back to her room, dressed in a towel and towel turban, her shower things once again floating behind her. She slammed the door shut and quickly changed, before throwing herself on her bed with a book.
