“Oh!” Shona fiddled with her hair and looked around the dinning room once she heard the cattaur’s request. This was a problem. Frowning the centauress quickly scanned the room before gazing back at Constance, “I can probably walk with you to the end of the street..but I’m really not supposed to leave this area when no one else is around.” She flushed lightly. Last time she had done that things hadn’t worked out so well for the tavern. Needless to say it was rare for Flora to leave her adopted daughter by herself during busy times.

She did offer a hopeful smile towards Constance, “But Zura is already in town! I’m sure you can find her~” She nodded, “She went towards the marketplace where there’s a bunch of stalls at the second street full of produce and such! That way our kitchen won’t be empty.” She reached out and boldly tugged at Constance’s hand, “If you hurry I’m sure you can find her there!” Hooves tapping lightly against the wooden floor she breezed out of the main room and outdoors towards the stone path leading down the street towards the busier parts of town.

Suddenly stopping she pointed towards a street, “That way should be it.” Her eyes lit up, “I’m Shona by the way~” Turning she let go of Constance’s hand and took a step before pausing once more, “I hope to see you around!” Just like the breeze the centauress was off again, heading quickly back inside of the tavern.

Triston frowned as he walked through the crowded market. He was still feeling restless from his earlier series of mistakes and was having a dilemma on what he should do next. Ignoring her wasn't going to be a good option, but he was afraid...what would happen if he strengthened these crazy meetings of theirs? She should be leaving anyway, this wasn't her season...the thought was strengthened by the strong chill of the autumn breeze which swept around him as he turned down another dark alleyway. He wasn't unnerved by the threatening strangers who lurked here as well. After all he was more dangerous and it was in the darkness that his sort belonged.

Constance's ears perked as Shona spoke, and she cocked her head and smiled sadly. "Already there. I missed her then." She gasped softly as her hand was grabbed, being tugged along. Everyone who worked here was so friendly! "That's alright. Really. I don't want to distract you from your duties."

She looked down the path where she was being pointed, and she turned back to Shona. "Thank you, Sho-" she had to turn further to see the young lady running back already, "..na." Constance giggled and headed on down the path.

When she reached the market, she felt quickly overwhelmed. There were so many taur! So many buildings! Not nearly as much nature as she was used to. A hand lifting to her lips, her eyes scanned hard through the crowd. She couldn't see Zura yet. Maybe further in? ...If Zura could do this alone, then so could she she! Taking a deep breath and straightening her back, she stepped into the crowd.

So disoriented by the bustling taur, it wasn't long before she figured out that she wasn't even in the produce area of the market anymore! She looked around at tight corsets and flowing sleeves and sturdy work shirts. ...What was all this? She had no need for it! Zura wouldn't be here. Now... where had to produce gone?

Triston browsed through an array of daggers casually. As frost gleamed on the blade he twirled in his fingers the cattaur sighed softly. The mist that covered the blade faded away as a centauress placed her hand on his dark glove, “Hey.” Zura’s eyes gleamed up at Triston, “I’m going to go ahead since I finished up getting what I needed. You can stay and wander around for a bit if you like.” She smiled warmly. After running into him here the centaur had dragged him along with her so that he couldn’t mope alone. If anyone Zura was keen when it came to seeing past that icy exterior that her friend held. Really like a grumpy older brother. The thought tickled her as she patted his arm one last time before letting go, “But be back soon! I still need help~”

Humming softly she made her way past the stalls and through the streets, heading towards the edge of town where the tavern stood. Hopefully Constance would like the surprise she was trying to plan! It would be a good way to fluster Triston as well. She smiled softly to herself. This was going to be interesting.

Triston only shook his head at Zura’s retreating figure. She knew better than to just go to this part without him. He was fine though as long as she left towards the safer streets. Though why she needed to head towards the lower markets still confused him. The whole time she had been so secretive too about what she bought. It didn’t matter though. He still enjoyed having the fresh air despite how many others walked the streets. The all knew better than the bother the ice cattaur who like most of them belonged so strongly to the shadowed streets, if not the shadows of the icy north.

The poor feline couldn't hide how lost she felt. She'd never been lost! Constance was quite out of her element as she headed deeper into the market. Bodies jostled for space, voiced called for attention, and the stray youth scurried around and dug through unguarded pockets. What was this place?

Constance looked at a nearby stall full of blades and wrinkled her nose. Those looked dangerous. Yet, her ears perked at the sight of one of the larger blades. A, um, what were they...? A sword! Triston had one of those! Biting her lip, she stepped closer to inspect it. Running her hand along the cold, flat edge, the salestaur suddenly burst out laughing. It was a sight, seeing the small female inspecting a big sword. Of course, this sent other customers laughing, and she ducked her head and hurried back the way she'd come. That sort of laughter was grating at her ears. Speaking of, she paused when a hand brushed her arm.

"Oy, miss~" A sleazy looking foxtaur in a dirty cloak was grinning at the lost lady. "This ain't no place for a little miss like you. Got all sorts of folk here, an' not all of 'em would treat ya kindly as I will." His grin was missing a couple teeth, but his hair was combed. "Come along. We'll get ya back where yeh belong. We kin stop by my shop on the way. Git ya sumthin' prettier 'n daggers here. Whaddya say?"

Ears pinning back, Constance looked around a little before focusing on the 'friendly' male again. "Well... I am a bit lost. I would appreciate the help. I'm staying at-"

"Ah! No worries, miss! There's a shortcut right ta my shop down this here alley. Jus' a quick jaunt, an' then ya kin tell us- I mean- me all about where yer stayin'." Taking her arm, the foxtaur led her right toward the closest dark alley. "Sumthin' ta bring out the sparkle in yo eyes, eh?"

A cold wind blew through the darker alleyway as Triston continued on his way. The male didn’t even realize how easy it was for him to easily pass through places that would put most in danger. Beneath his dark cloak was the shimmer of the ice blade which rested on his back. Once someone had come through here and caught sight of the blade. Overcome by greed they had attempted to steal the blade from the ice cattaur. The rest of the taurs had only watched as a new ice statue decorated the alley’s corner. They knew better now.

Still it was odd that Triston felt his paws taking him further in rather than out. He should be joining Zura to help her with whatever crazy request she had for him next, but he was wary now that he knew Constance was at the tavern. Really the chances of his host hosting the summer cattaur was so slim that this situation had been unimaginable. But it had been his fault after all for taking her to the festival. Oddly enough he didn’t regret his decision. Not in the slightest. “Sir.” A faint voice at his elbow made Triston pause. Not moving his gaze slid through his bangs to notice the small child who was standing next to him. His hair and features were grimy, but his eyes shone brightly despite the dark surroundings. “I’m-I’m really sorry.” He trailed off and dug his claws into the dirt shyly, “I knows you can be scawy…but I seen you do nice things before.” He swallowed and crossed his arms against the chill as Triston just silently stared at him a moment before giving a quiet response.

“Yes?” He didn’t know what else to say. If it had been any of the girls from the tavern they would have already swooned and tried to snatch the boy. But Triston knew better. Unfortunately families lived in these alleys…most likely this one was from one of the darker guilds. That would be the only reason he was bold enough to walk here, or to know about him even.

“I’m not askin’ for money or anything!” The small cervitaur added quickly before nodding, “Just that there was this pretty lady you see…and it would be a shame…” His voice trailed off quietly, “For them to do bad things to her. She was so pretta and bright like. Like a summa day ya know? Buh I can’t….I can’t fight ‘em all like ya could do. So I knows you aren’t sposed ta be bothered buh-”

Triston immediately found his body turning towards the boy, “Where did they go?”

“Oh thank ya!” He pointed down another street way, “That darker path around the corner, sir!” His voice was a shy whisper as he quickly glanced around. IF anyone saw him he would be in trouble too. But the ice cattaur was already gone leaving in his place a small bag which jingled as the boy picked it up. “Huh. Scary ice warrior they say.” He laughed softly before placing the satchel in his bag and scampering back into the shadows. There was more warmth beneath that gaze than anything in that instant. But it was still kinda scary…shaking his head the boy continued as Triston started running the other way.

The foxtaur looked down at the tan arm he held, and over to the female's face. "So, what kinda magic ya got there? Seem awful warm fer the chill in the air. Ya got fire under that skin?"

What luck! The fox might have benefited from some more personal hygiene standards, but he was being so helpful! Constance naively followed him, tail twitching curiously. What kind of shop did he have? What could she need from it? Though, since she'd recently been given a gift... Constance giggled and shook her head. "No. It's just magic that keeps me warm. My parents once called me... Oh, what's the word...? Ah! A walking greenhouse. It's not fire. Just warmth. I help plants, and-"

"Yah, that's nice," the fox interrupted, stopping now in front of a heavy, cracked door. "Here we are. My shop! Come on in, little miss. We'll see what sort of goodies we can find~" He led her through a small room lined with shelves. Each shelf held various bottles in different sizes and colors. She had no idea what was in them, and didn't even have a chance to ask as she continued to be pulled along by her guide. The next room housed another male, a feline playing with rock magic.
The feline looked up in surprise, and then laughed. "Finally! You brought one back conscious. Getting better, mate!"
The fox grinned and nodded, turning toward Constance. "Alright. Those goodies I mentioned.." His hand flashed out and yanked the small purse from Constance's waist. Then, he shoved her toward his accomplice. "Go on. Show him your goodies~" he teased as he shuffled through her bag.

Constance winced as the vine holding her small purse broke off, and looked around in utter confusion. "Wait... That's mine," she said, reaching for her purse. He hand was intercepted by the strong grip of the other male's wrapping around her wrist.

"Young lady, I don't think you understand what's going on here~" the male feline chuckled, stroking her cheek. "You're really not from around here. I can tell."
"Oy! What's this?" The foxtaur tipped the bag upside-down, dumping out a handful of little fruits. "Where's the coin? I ain't gone ta all the trouble gettin' you the pretty face for nuthin'!"
The feline male sighed, and pushed his blue hair from his face. "Well, how is it my fault you can't tell a coin purse from... a fruit purse? I'll share with you, if you're gonna be so cranky about it."

While the men talked, Constance was still trying to figure out what was happening. "..Does this mean you're not taking me back to the inn? I'm sorry I can't pay you, but if you'll at least point me in the right direction, I should find my own way."

The blue feline perked his ears. "Ah. So you're staying at an inn. ...I bet no one here knows you very well. No one who will miss you." When Constance lowered her gaze, the male laughed and turned to the foxtaur. "Fine, you whining idiot. Let me have my fun, and then you can tell the boys that the dinner table will have food on it tonight." He looked back to Constance and smiled sadly as the fox scurried off in delight. "I am sorry, my dear. I don't understand their heathenish ways, but they are good workers. Cannibalism was never my style. A most unfortunate night for you~" Seeing shock and fear finally setting into the woman's eyes, he grinned. "However, I might make an exception with you. I bet you taste delicious.. How about a sample?"

Seeing a blade flash, Constance screamed and backed up as fast as she could. She bumped into a tall shelf like the ones up front, covered in filled jars and bottles as well. Unstable as cheap shelving is, it rocked and tipped right over, pinning Constance underneath. She lost her breath from the impact of the heavy shelf, and from a strange pain in her rear leg that was so overwhelming, she could barely react to it.

The male sighed and shook his head. "Now, you look a proper mess." He strolled over, and looked at the long shard of glass sticking out of a brown leg. "See, if you'd just let me do it as I'd wanted to, you wouldn't have even noticed it," he said, and clicked his tongue in disappointment.

Frost spun down the streets in crystal webs as the air around the cloaked cattaur crackled with electricity. None approached the cattaur and instead pulled back with hisses. It was unusual to see someone so icy cold to the world being so tense, so upset perhaps? With the ice in his brilliant blue gaze it really was like he was back up north preparing to kill. Even if he wasn’t up north right now Triston was brimming with an intent that was far from pleasant. What the hell was she even doing in this area? Why had she left the tavern in the first place? What was she thinking?

No, maybe the child was wrong. Perhaps this was someone different, another cattaur who radiated the magic of life, of summer. He stopped and checked the ground, his fingertips grazing just where two others had just walked. No. He had tracked enough taurs in his lifetime to realize that this was a familiar enough scent. It was her. There was a reason the tavern had stone walls and had been built on the other edge of town. This was a place Constance never should have seen or even known about. He ran a hand through his raven hair in exasperation. Even worse that meant that she had no idea what danger she was in down here. He needed to hurry before that radiant light was shattered.

A scream caught his attention. It tied him to the terrified owner of the voice and Triston felt his heart jump at the recognition. Constance. She really was in danger then. He reached out towards the door and the crack filled quickly with ice allowing pieces of wood to shatter before he quietly walked through another door into a room which was a mess. He nearly missed the other feline as his gaze instantly locked onto Constance’s situation as he noted the shelf. How had….no it was her. His gaze shifted as he heard the voice of another and icy electricity surrounded the air around him as he gazed at the other cattaur, “Enough.” His gaze said it clearly enough. Move towards the female and die.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:30 pm

Ears twitching, the male looked over at the door just as the outer one snapped apart. Another guest? The appearance of the ice feline sent his eyebrows practically up into his hairline. Who the heck was this?! Blinking, he looked to the pinned female, and back to the other male. "Well, isn't this a surprise. The idiot is usually so good about not being followed. Here I thought she was alone~ Funny. I believe she thought she was alone, too." He stomped a couple times on the floor with a grin. "Yes. 'Enough,' indeed. With you here, the lady and I get more time together. They're so very hungry."

Constance had her eyes squeezed shut against the pain and fear she felt. What was happening? Why? What had she done to make this man want to hurt her? She was so overwhelmed, she didn't even realize anyone else had arrived, until.. that voice... Triston? Not believing her own ears, and with no plants around to tell her anything, she blinked her watering eye clear to finally look around.

Triston! What was he doing here? She was so glad to see him! But... Stifling a cry, she started shaking her head. "These men.. are bad. Go.." Even as Constance spoke, the blue feline's signal was taking affect. Heavy paws thudded up the stairs, and the fox from before kicked through the stairwell door, followed closely by a handful of various types of taur. Her eyes widened, and her ears pinned back into her hair as they looked curiously at Triston.

"Boss? What's with the walking snowtaur?" "Is something like that tasty?" "Does this mean you're done with that girl there?" "I call his shoulder! The right one!" "Oy! No calling parts for yourself!"

The blue feline sighed with exasperation and pressed his palm against his forehead. "Hey, morons..." They all looked at him, and he pointed to Triston, making sure he was very clear. "Kill."

"No! Don't hurt him!"

Triston just stared at the other cattaur passively before focusing on Constance while the rambling continued. Was there a reason for talking so much? He nearly rolled his eyes at the comment about this guy and Constance having time together. It certainly didn’t look like she was enjoying any time at all or had a choice for the matter. His tail twitched at the statement about hunger as well. Hungry? What in the world….Triston paused, his gaze actually flickering slightly in surprise as he finally looked away from Constance and towards the feline. So such a nasty idea was even here?

At her voice Triston nearly looked back towards Constance, but the warning didn’t make him nervous at all. Rather a tide of magic was swirling in his chest as he heard her faint cry. Taking advantage of someone so innocent….these truly were beasts not taurs. Then it was fine to let loose a bit. His claws flexed against the floor in silent anticipation. It wasn’t much though considering he felt killing was more of a chore rather than a thrill at this point. And seeing how the blue feline was just buying time until these thugs arrived…well it didn’t seem like there would be much of a challenge.

He actually gave a small noise of amusement at the reaction from them before moving like a flash and ripping one of the taur’s shoulder out of place as he got too close to Constance. The snapping noise of the wrist he held onto broke the silence as he threw the taur backwards into a wall. Bending down he looked at Constance and the shelf. There wasn’t time to break her out…his gloved hands reached down for a split second as one gently touched her cheek and another hovered over her eyes forcing them to slowly close, “Don’t worry. Just close your senses for me.” He stated quietly as a wall of ice surrounded his injured friend and he backed out to face the thugs.

“I guess if you want to try a piece of me…” He commented quietly with a faint grin flickering over his features, “You’re just going to have to try to get a chunk.” He didn’t even touch his sword. There was no need to bring out something like that for the likes of these. His gaze glittered coldly as the aura of ice magic rose about him. For anyone who recognized a killer used to his trade then they would see the same was true for Triston.

PostPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2013 10:30 am

Constance looked down at the ground. So much trouble. ...Why was Triston here? Had he followed her? Was it coincidence? Her brow knit slightly, looking up when she heard the crack of someones bones. Her face paled slightly, eyes wide as she watched the taur fly across the room.

She looked up to meet Triston's eyes, giving him a desperate look. She just wanted to go... Why wouldn't these men let them go? Her own hand lifted to grip the covered wrist as he spoke, wincing at the bit of chill that met her eyes. Her warmth wasn't protecting her as well as usual. "Be careful.." she whispered as she blacked out. Triston...

The men looked at their wounded pal in surprise. How had that happened? They cocked their heads as the ice barrier formed, and they chuckled. "Ah. Preservin' her for us, are ya?" One asked with an obnoxious laugh.

All laughter stopped though as the ice male's magic started to rise. They hesitated, but their greed overtook their common sense. They charged forward, while the blue cattaur scowled at the loss of his prey and slipped down the back stairs.

Triston chuckled low in his throat at the stupidity of the group before him, “If you think so.” He commented quietly as the temperatures around them dropped. If it wasn’t for the thugs who kept rushing him the cattaur may have taken the time to chase down the one who slipped away, but his attention wasn’t on the blue feline. Rather it was on the ones who kept swinging punches and daggers towards him. He never even used his sword once; long shards of ice would do the trick just fine. Staring into one’s face as he jabbed him in the ribs with his fist Triston’s gaze was immobile. There wasn’t even much reason to use magic here. Twisting his threw the taur into one of the others who had thought it was a smart idea to try to sneak up behind him.

A shelf was thrown at him and it nearly did catch the cattaur off balance so that he did have to freeze the shelf so that it shattered into pieces right before pinning him against the wall. Multiple shards of wood shredded against his own skin and lines of blood trailed down his arms. Still it didn’t take long before there was an array of bodies strewn about the floor with shards of crimson ice slowly melting into puddles around them. He didn’t even check if any were alive or not. Instead their legs were frozen to the ground for whoever would find this place next. They could deal with it. He had another concern on his mind.

Walking through the ice the cattaur bent to carefully pull the shelf off of Constance. She was cool to the touch for once. The realization made him frown as his fingers trailed lightly over her body, always constantly a breath away from her skin. But his gaze narrowed as he noticed the shard of glass. No wonder she had sounded so weak besides the weight of the shelf. She was injured badly. Taking his cloak from his shoulders Triston gently reached for the shard and slid it out of her leg neatly. He was no healer, but taking care of his own injuries for so long had taught him a bit. Wrapping her leg up in his cloak Triston slowly reached down before pausing. Would she be able to stand the cold? His gaze wavered at the thought before he shook his head. He was not leaving her here in case another group came in. Taking her gently he pulled Constance up towards his body and wrapped her around him so that he could carry her out of this hole and back through town and towards the tavern where Flora and the others could get her in bed and take care of her.

The first sensation to return was the warmth. Her magic was around her once again. Constance moaned softly, feeling strangely stiff. She snuggled down into the thick covers and the fluffy pillow, hiding from the consciousness that tried to make her wake. This wasn't right. Something was wrong. Something was... Triston!

Eyes snapping open, her torso lifted right up as she looked around frantically. This.. this wasn't the bad place. Was she back at the inn? Her hands gripped the sheets as she looked around, and saw the ice flower she had put on the dresser. Was Triston okay? Had he brought her back? Had someone else found them? She couldn't remember anything after being encased in the ice! The ice... Her brow knit slightly. It had been so cold...

She had to find out what happened! Reluctantly pushing off the warm blankets, feeling her magic spring up a notch, she fumbled with a yelp as she tried to climb out of bed. Confused, she looked back at her rear leg, covered with thick, hard wrappings. What was that doing there? Was that why her leg hurt? She looked down at herself closer. Another paw had a lighter wrap around it, as did her arm. A small bandage was stuck to her chin, where it had knocked against the floor. ...Euthalia was going to be furious.

He had stayed next to her bedside as much as possible, watching over her like a guardian shadow. While Zura and Flora had helped carry her into the room he stayed and watched despite his own wounds. While Zura bathed and washed the wounds on her body he stayed nearby to offer his help so that he could see that everything was going to be alright. The wound on her leg was what worried him the most though. He knew the dangers of what a cut like that could do if it wasn’t taken care of well enough. Willow hadn’t been nearby so they had to make do with what they had. Thankfully Zura was there with her training from her home.

It was Zura who had pushed the sleeping cattaur from the room just a few hours earlier. His presence had made the room too chill again so she had ushered him out with promises that she would stand guard instead. So when Constance fumbled around it was a pair of tan hands which reached out to stop her friend from moving, “Woah.” Zura peered at Constance with slight concern, “Take it easy.” She brushed back a stray bang from her gaze as she smiled at the cattaur, “You’ve had it a bit rough.” More than a bit, but a couple days of straight sleep had seemed to help her. Zura placed a bowl of clean water on the dresser next to the ice flower, pausing to look at the piece of art. Already he’d received teasing for the treasure though so she didn’t comment. “But how are you feeling now?”

PostPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2013 7:46 pm

Flinching at a sudden pair of hands, Constance looked up with wide eyes. "Zura!" she gasped, instantly looking beyond the centauress to see if anyone else was in the room. No... Of course not.

Scooting back to the center of the bed, she looked at her wrapped leg again, reaching down to touch the wrappings. "I... feel okay, I guess. Thirsty... Hungry." Biting her lip, she looked over to Zura. "Zura. Did..? Is..? ...Where's Triston?" Quickly, she dropped her head down and it came rambling out. "I just wanted to see the market. I got lost. There were... these terrible men. I don't know what I did to make them so mad." She shuddered at the memory of the rotten men in their rotten building. "Triston was there somehow... He kept me safe." Her eyes began to water slightly, her mind racing on ahead before Zura could respond. What if Triston had been hurt? Or worse.. what if he was angry with her?!

“Oh, sorry!” Zura laughed softly though she made an apologetic expression towards the cattaur, “I didn’t mean to startle you.” At the comment about being thirsty and needing food Zura nodded, “Of course you should be. It’s been a couple of days since you were carried back here.” Her gaze softened as Constance looked down and told the story. Oh this was an innocent soul indeed. The centauress lightly rubbed the cattaur’s shoulder comfortingly.

“Oh dear, you didn’t make them mad.” Zura paused and bit her bottom lip thoughtfully. How should she put it for Constance? What Triston had told her…the centauress felt a shiver go down her spine. There was a good reason that Flora demanded she never go alone into such places! Finally realizing that she had started pacing Zura forced herself to stand still by Constance’s side where she shook her head. “In every place there are shadows and it’s the same for our town. We have alleys where others shouldn’t go since there’s dangerous taur there. Not everyone is nice you see….some have cruel intentions against the sweetest of taurs. That’s what you ran into.” She sighed again, “Just remember that next time, please?” She smiled softly, “No going to the market by yourself. You’re fortunate that Triston was there…” She trailed off and looked towards the doorway.

“He’s alright by the way. Just out and about since he made the room too cold for ya.” Zura laughed softly, “If it wasn’t for that I swear he would have crawled in bed with you to make certain you were okay.”
