(Inigo and Presea) "Uhhh..." Well, this was odd. Local newspapers weren't something for him to get worked up over. Especially if it was maybe a college newsletter. The young woman at least didn't have any noticeable press badge that he could see. Inigo, on the other hand, was acting downright oblivious. They may need to work on that.
"Just visiting, and through work and friends," Alba answered kindly when Inigo finished, loosening up a little. He was still on guard, that much wouldn't change, but he could play it off with extra straightening of the tie here, or smoothing of the coat collar there. "And yes. My friend and I arrived together."

-too lazy to get on muley-
This party sure was a big one. Rayna felt so out of place, even as she made her way around other pirates and people. Gwyn followed close behind, and Rayna refused to return her to her ball and be left in this fray all alone.
The refreshment table seemed to be destroyed, though she saw one punch bowl untouched and some cupcakes that were spared. She was knocked around several times as she made her way to it, and by the time she reached the punch her face was as red as her hair.
Worst. Halloween. Ever.
And that was saying something, because she loved Halloween. The candy, the costumes, the decorations... It was right up her alley. Out of the corner of her eye she watched Gwyn flit from hanging ghost to hanging ghost, pretending to be a decoration herself. Rayna had to giggle.

Dith was running late. He had been perfectly on time until the hot tap in the bathroom had come off in his hand. It had taken him five minutes to remember where the shut off for the water was, and then ten more to clean up the mess. While the period of running around his apartment had been full of cussing however Dith was in a good mood again by the time he arrived at the party, and quietly pondering how best to hilariously recount the tale of the idiot who managed to snap a tap. On discovering it was a costume party he was even happier.
Animal left plenty of things for him to choose from, which was fortunate as this also gave him a chance in hell of finding something to fit. In the end none of the full animal suits looked to be his size, but a large brown hoody and pair of brown trousers did and so did a bear hat. Once changed Dith inspected himself in a mirror and grinned; tonight was going to be fun! Giving the unfamiliar clothes a last tug Dith stepped out of the changing area and set off in search of his young friends.

(@Natalia/Mau/Asch)
Aila matched the stranger's posture, leveling a gaze at the woman that implied more capability than did her height. Internally, however, she faltered at the word 'fiance.' It made sense, of course, given what she knew of Asch - or rather, of Luke fon Fabre - and what she suspected of this young woman, but somehow it was surprising nonetheless. Surprising and vaguely offensive. If some girl who appeared out of the blue felt she was more entitled to Asch's company than his partner, then Aila felt strangely compelled to prove to her otherwise. Was she so self-absorbed that she couldn't tell Asch didn't want to speak to her? Or worse, didn't care that he didn't want to speak to her?
In spite of her mounting indignation, she stood quietly and patiently to a side as Mau spoke, proving himself as skillful a diplomat as ever. She was grateful for his willingness to intervene in the situation. She met his glance with an expression of appreciation and a brief nod of approval before turning to the woman to await her response. She didn't seem the type that would appreciate her company dismissing itself without her permission. Haughty was the word that came to mind, among others. Aila scarcely appreciated her pushiness.

@ Inigo and Alba
As the man began answering her questions, Presea was quickly scribbling things down in her notepad. "And your costumes. What had you pulled from the raffle? How do you feel about the randomized costumes? Would it be something you'd like to see in years to come?" She glanced between the two of them, even though only the one was answering questions just yet. So she took a moment to address the man who wasn't inclined to respond to her questions.
"I am a journalist by trade." She offered. "It has nothing to do with my costume. I simply drew 'robot' for my lot. Being a mechanical doll was just fitting enough, don't you think?" She kept her face neutral as she spoke, her gaze hidden behind the visor.

(Alba, Presea)
Unfortunately, Inigo's obliviousness wasn't an act at all. "Really?" He said, eyebrows raising after Alba had answered the girl's questions. "You seem pretty young to be a journalist, that's really cool. And it's an awesome costume," he agreed with an enthusiastic nod and a lop-sided grin. How old was this girl? Man, she must be a really good if she was a journalist so young. "What're you asking all these questions for?" She certainly had a lot of them. "Do you write for a newspaper or magazine or something?" Or maybe it was a school paper? That made sense too. Was she in school still and just an intern? That made sense too.

People kept coming close! "Guh!" Lasi grunted at anyone and any pokemon that might be venturing too close to his little floor-feast. This was his food! ...And it was almost gone. The trouble with having a mouth too large for one's own proportions; food was gone almost before Lasi had registered the taste sometimes, now. Well, with the feast dwindling to meal, and then to snack, at so rapid a rate, of course he /had/ to make his case of ownership. ... But also he needed more. There was more up there. On the table. This food... had come from the table to the floor and no one was stopping him from eating it... thus if he were to get food from the table to the floor then that food... would be his! The logic was flawless. The pink Golbat wandered out and turned to eye the tables hungrily.
Tambrey liked the punch. Of course it had been spiked. Somewhere in her brain she /knew/ that. Somewhere in her brain she'd have been disappointed if it hadn't been. So, where to go, who to talk to. She... gravitated toward familiar voices or faces, but found herself lost and wandering through the crowd. She knew she should find Lasi, but still she wasn't worrying about her pokemon; he was usually capable enough. Of course, that was as a Zubat. She found herself casually looking over costumes as she wandered, marveling at several and starting to feel a bit of a cliché in her own costume. Oh well, she was stuck now. She smirked at the sight of an Alan Grant, and then roving across to a... robotic man. So, hers was a little cliché but she was cheered up by the others. And probably the punch, a little.

As Aila and Mau kept Natalia occupied, Asch made a break for the costume room. This was his best option at the moment. Storming past the woman who had given him a hard time before, he forced his way back in.
"What the... Where are you going?" the woman asked, clearly befuddled as to why the fussy princess has returned. "I need a different dress!" he barked back at her. Leaving the woman to stare in disbelief.
Again he streaked past Izaya and Faleen as Asch frantically started searching for a different costume that still fell under the princess category.

(Tambrey, anyone near the tables)
"Right," Aulus looked around, a wide grin taking over his scarred face, "think there's anything worth drinking around here?"
"Uh." Hayes had been momentarily distracted by what looked like a chase scene between.. some girl and someone who was probably a girl but looked a little.. off with the way they ran. Also he'd seen that hair before. Maybe? Weird. "Dunno." He flashed a grin at his friend. "Let's find out. Think the tables are over.. by the pink Golbat." Ookay.
"Hu... Fair enough," Aulus shrugged, "if that's the weirest thing I see tonight, I'll be surprised." When was the last time he'd been to an actual party? Probably back in university, which seemed longer ago than it actually was. "Ages since I've done something like this," he commented to Hayes as he started to weave/shove through the crowds. "Kodo seems to know how to throw a party... though I expect we'll see some real travesties of costumes before the night's out. Girls wearing things that really don't flatter them. Guys too I expect."
"Girls wearing guys that don't flatter them?" Hayes joked cheerfully as he followed Aulus, adding, "You're one up on me then." There were advantages to being around the guy; you just stayed in the wake he opened up before the crowd flowed in again. "Oh, whoa-" Good fortune let him spot an upside-down tray of smashed cupcakes Lasi had missed before he stepped in it. "Watch out, the floor's a mess."

When he finally opted to look elsewhere than the vanity mirror, Izaya took note of Claire and Isadora. He hadn't expected anyone else to overheard his and Faleen's conversation, but in the case that they had, at least he could rest assured that they, too, were fellow Rockets.
However, as a blur of red and black rushed back into the room and past them, the superhero turned his head sharply. Seconds ago he was certain he'd heard a deep, male voice barking at the party staff member attending the door to the dressing room, but when he looked, there was no man in sight. Instead, the royal, red-headed scowler had returned, looking more perturbed than ever. Had he heard right? Something about needing a different dress...?
Hopping to his feet, Izaya scurried over, as if in the same distressed state as the princess. He was, in fact, worried, but probably not for the same reasons the red-head was. After all, even a new dress wouldn't have saved him from Shizuo. "Need some help?" he offered, pushing through a few poofy hoop-skirted gowns to try to get closer to the lady. He wanted to see her face. "You seem like you're in a rush. Got a suitor to impress?" By his tone, it was difficult to tell whether he was sincere or simply teasing the princess.
It was a shame Asch had hardly ever spoken more than a sentance to Izaya, or the informant might have been able to confirm his identity long ago. He also might have had a better mind to watch his tongue around a superior agent, particularly the partner of Aila. Maybe.

(Aulus/Hayes/people nearby) Tambrey was still costume watching when she noticed the Alan Grant and the.. Indiana Jones(? well, that was neat, her mind turning it over) came closer to her. Ah! She recognised them, as well. Rockets. Alan Grant was Aulus! Huh. She didn't know him very well, it was true, but she'd never have thought of him knowing about this character. Well, books and covers... The other was familiar too; high up Rocket. She remembered him from the mission; stuff to do with technology, that was it. "Hi!" She greeted them, once close enough. Maybe it was the punch. She probably wouldn't have greeted quite so brightly, or quite as confidently, normally. "I like your costumes; Jurassic Park characters?" She smiled. And took a final sip of her punch. Yep, going to need more of that. She hadn't quite noticed the spill on the ground that had given Hayes pause, but this was quickly rectified...
... by Lasi, diving for the scrap as though he feared Hayes had noticed it and now wished to claim it for himself. "GUH!" He declared as he swooped onto the downed goods. MINE! His over-large mouth descended, then, eagerly toward the sugary treats.

Somewhere amidst various commotions, a certain redheaded boy bearing a striking resemblance to one already in attendance sauntered into the party hall, dressed more the part of some kind of winged forest elf than the fairy he was supposed to be. The attendants had encouraged him towards a more feminine variety of the creature, but he had quickly taken a firm stand against that. It wasn't as if he didn't have better things to do. If they wanted to make him dress like a woman, he would just go back to training. Fortunately, they relented when he proved that he could build an outfit fitting the theme without as much as touching a skirt. This left the question, though, of what he was doing here. When invited, Luke had declined to attend. Sure they had finished their training in Hoenn, but that didn't mean he couldn't still become a better trainer. His pokemon, however, had eventually tired out, and practically everyone Luke knew in Kodo was at this stupid party, so... He grumbled irritably. This was stupid. He should have been training. Why was it so hard to practice sword maneuvers by himself? Luke was startled by his grumbles by a sudden shout, "Someone's looking for you." He turned and raised an eyebrow at the source of the voice, a child with a hat that was clearly much too big for her. She said nothing more before she continued on at a meaningful pace. Well, that was... weird. __________ (@Mau, Natalia, Asch, Izaya) When Asch took off, Aila followed suit. If Asch was leaving on the grounds of discussing this matter with her, then it wouldn't help their story if she lingered. Besides, perhaps she could offer some assistance in strengthening his disguise. As she approached the costume room, moving at a clip, she took note of a certain boy who bore a startling resemblance to her partner. Ah, so this was the one... An idea struck her, and she stopped just before passing the boy, spinning to face him, "Someone's looking for you." Hopefully he would run into the blonde woman and she would leave Asch alone. She offered no more explanation before carrying on her way, locating the room, locating Asch within it, and-- Ahh, wonderful, Izaya had found him. This would perhaps require a bit more delicacy than she had anticipated... Slowing to a more casual pace, she approached her partner and recruit, regarding the latter entreatingly, "Would you leave this to me?" Ask no questions, said entreating expression begged. Please just ask no questions and let it be.

Quickly sorting through dresses and wigs, Asch tried to find a suitable substitute for what he was already wearing. There was a distressed look on his face as he did so. Half of his brain concentrating on finding a new outfit, the other half thinking about what had just happened. However, he was interrupted from said thoughts when someone else came up behind him and spoke.
"Shut up," he snarled back, clearly not amused at the latter comment that came out of some guy's mouth. He glanced in Izaya's direction briefly, but then went back to what he was doing. If he had at all recognized the grunt, he didn't show any indication of it.
Then Aila arrived and Asch paused, but didn't bother looking back at them. He wondered how they knew each other but there were more important matters for him to focus on at the moment.

@ Natalia, Aila, Asch
He was, to say the least, a little startled that the man would bolt so quickly. He nodded to Aila when she took off after him. It took most of Mau's willpower not to sigh at them. He turned his attention back to Natalia. "I don't believe I caught your name, Ma'am."

@ Alba and Inigo
When one of the magicians would comment she appeared young, her tone became flat and she answered honestly. "I'm 28." She turned her head so she was looking more at Inigo as she addressed him, and one could not see her eyes behind the visor. "I am attempting an article about the event. Those who came are a large portion of this event, thus I am curious what everyone thinks of it. How it's run, the costumes. Things of that nature" She hesitated to tell them as of right now she was unemployed and looking for work. Presea knew as well as anyone that an article on a Halloween party wasn't likely to win her any respect in the journalist world unless something amazing happened.
She was banking on that slim glimmer of hope for a fiasco.

The grunt blinked at the clear expression of distress on the princess' face when he finally got close enough to look at it. Something must have really upset her. What could it have been at a party like this? Had someone worn the same outfit? Had her boyfriend dumped her? Was she trying to change her dress in hopes of winning him back? They were silly reasons, true, but Izaya often found that these were the typical reasons a teenage girl like this one would choose to change clothing - especially after having taken so long to get ready the first time.
"My, what manners...and here I thought royalty were taught better," he murmured, though he continued to smile sympathetically. "Here. This might help." Removing his black mask, encrusted with faux rubies, Orihara offered it to the frantic lady. "Funny we chose the same color scheme. We're at a masquerade ball; might as well wear a mask, right?"
Before he knew what was happening, though, a newcomer joined them. Izaya stared. "...Aila? What are you doing here?" She was the last person he would have expected to see at a party. She didn't have any obligation to be here, did she? A mission, maybe? Still, her meaningful look was not lost on him, distracted as he was by her sudden appearance.
Settling for a frown, as though he were hurt by her keeping secrets from him, he stepped aside for the teen agent to help the princess. "Be my guest." ...But I expect an explanation later, his own expression added in response. It wasn't any fun to see everyone so worked up and distressed by urgent matters when he had no idea what those matters were. Shizuo couldn't have already started throwing things at people, could he have...?
