Prom. Yeah, Cady vaguely remembered passing by the booth during Open House at some point. Something about dancing, and music. She hadn't been interested at first but... There would be food?

"Oh, right, pron. Prom. I didn't know there would be food," she said, brightening considerably. She didn't know what dancing was, besides a vague idea about waving around your extremities, but she definitely understood food. "And there will be...Sugar? I um. I'm good at tasting things, you know," she added. "I'm practic'ly a...pro fessy. Nal. Taster. Yes, it's a skill that I have." Cady nodded.

She managed to walk right past the patchwork boil without noticing him, and fortunately still hadn't turned around and was facing Ash, Riley and Nuk, her back to the door.

She shook her head enthusiastically when Ash said she was in charge of music. "Oh, music! Right! I know lots about music. Gladys has a phony-graph at home that she plays lots of music on. I know how it works! I took it apart this one time but I ate a few bits so it doesn't play as good anymore," she admitted sheepishly.

Riley currently hates all of you, for agreeing with Nuk about the sugar thing.

Except Aislin. Aislin would give her sugar if she wanted, she was sure of it. The rest of you can all go to heaven.

I will keep that in mind, Christof. Thank you for being so helpful, as usual. She murmured to the thought, in reply.

"Anyone has a pen or pencil and paper I could borrow, by any chance?" She asked to whoever was listening; it would be nice to get some simple sketches down... She was more of a visual person! Besides, the current ideas that had been given were pretty vague...

"How about more glowing things?" She suggested, tilting her head, "I was hoping that the auditorium's lights would be dimmed that day-" She looked at Nuk briefly, as if asking him if that was possible, "-So any glowing decor will pop! Glowing dice, maybe giant cards with tiny lights around its border? Ohh, a glowing roulette wheel, maybe? We could always paint the one we already have over with glow-in-the-dark paint!"

She then paused as Aislin spoke; there was something about her tone that did not sit well with her at all... She smiled, "Of course! Music, food, decor... Everything is important to make the perfect prom! Decor to set the mood, music for dancing between friends and lovers, sitting down to bond over some food..." Can you tell that she's a romantic at heart yet?

"I'm sure this prom will be great, with everyone working so hard. In fact..." She paused, as if thinking of something, before typing out a new 'category' on her eyephone note, "Guys, how about the dance floor? We need to set aside a place for the DJ and for people to dance! Maybe in the middle of the auditorium? How are we going to decorate the ceiling and floor? I have this odd idea, but... How about a raised platform in the shape of a circle? We could paint it to look like a roulette wheel like the one in Oogie Boogie's lair in the story! And the DJ's table could be in the middle of the dance floor... Or is it usually at the side?"

Nodding to Lizzy, Jericho grinned regarding the dice.

"Yeah I can get us plenty buuuut I'd rather not use any from my own stash," he said, "Just give me an estimate of what we'll need and I'll get them no problem."

Nodding once more, he glanced to the side briefly as Christof had come on in, then looked around for some paper and a pencil. He didn't have either on himself at the moment so he wasn't much help there.

So he just tried to think about how the dance floor could be like.

"We'll need some fancy light stuffs for sure. Maybe some blacklights or something," he mused.

I have an idea. Riley suddenly interjected, after listening quietly to the chatter. Christof can help with the construction of the dance floor, Lizzy. He's very skilled in such matters, and he's looking for some way to use his skills to help. After working with Barth for so long, he has.. somewhat of a knack for making extraordinary constructions out of ordinary materials. I believe him to be invaluable to this production.

"Christof? Really?" She tilted her head at Riley before nodding slowly; she still did not have that good of an impression of Christof, but it was getting better with every additional thing he did for Amrita... Besides, the recommendation came from Riley. That was reassuring, at least!

"Alright then!" She turned to look at the patchwork, regarding him with a small smile, "Can you make the roulette wheel dance floor and DJ table then? Um, if you need help with it, feel free to ask! I'm sure there are students who're pretty handy with their hands as well!" She was typing away on her eyephone as she spoke, adding even more information to the note she had open.

"I thought so," She looked up at Jericho with a grin, "I'm not sure how much budget we have at the moment though... Uh... Nuk, Riley? Do you know?"

Christof?

Christof. Christof.

Cady's head turned around slowly, making it almost a full 180 degrees before her anatomy forced the rest of her torso to turn with her. Somewhere, far away, an owl swiveled its head around and marvelled at how uniquely blessed it was, before hacking up yesterday's mouse. Speaking of mice...

Cady beamed at her friend. She'd have wondered why he didn't say hi to her from his post at the door, but the answer was obvious- that whole sewing incident thing. She still listened intently as the ghoul who seemed to have taken charge listed off jobs, and mentioned the ones she hoped he'd be working on. She had no idea what a roulette wheel was and how one applied it to a floor, but the DJ table - wasn't Aislin the DJ? Yep, she should probably offer to help her friends out here. Besides, tables were easy. Four legs stuck under some kind of top thing. She was pretty sure she could manage to count to four.

Who cared if there might be a little extra?

Smiling like the cat who ate the aforementioned mouse, she piped in cheerfully, "I can help make a table? Aislin's table right? For the music?" She glanced back to the ghoul. "Do you need help? I know lots about tables. They've got four legs and you can stick things on them. Very, er, cleaver things, tables." She nodded vigorously. Cady was Helping.

"Me? Make dinner for you?" He looked at Ren, his hands balling into a fist to give the other a friendly noogie in the shoulder. "Fat chance. Ask your ghoulfriend, why don't you?" Vaith grinned, his feet pushing his chair outwards to stand up. Ren might have eaten a lunch Vaith had made one time or another in school but the boil didn't count it as "delicious." Whatever suited his tastebuds was good enough.

Vaith pondered on whether he should wait. The meeting didn't seem like it'd be done for awhile. Now seemed like a good time. Even though he had planned to wait until after the meeting, it seemed that this might go on pretty late. Now was better, it insured that he didn't step back in line for someone else to ask later. But first things first-- Take care of the number one problem. The gryphon.

"No laughing."

Pause.

"And stay."

The order was given like the gryphon was some sort of obedient dog's command, Vaith shooting the gryphon a warning glare. He shifted his weight, one foot fidgeting ever so slightly. Even though the expression held his usual frown, something was different. Whether it was the crease of his eyebrows or the attempt to be nonchalant-- Usually, it was a natural emotion that came with Vaith's personality but it was different in the fact that it felt like an attempted effort at the emotion.

"I .. Uh, Xiu, can I ask you something? It's sorta noisy here so do you mind if we go outside?" He pointed to the back entrance a few feet away. He felt lame. He hated feeling lame-- She probably knew what he was going to ask. Did he make it obvious? Or did he succeed at making it sound like a normal question?

Contrary to what Vaith thought, the wide-eyed and confused look that Xiu gave him indicated that she had absolutely no idea what was going on. He wanted to ask her something? It seemed a little strange that he wanted to do so outside, but it didn't bother her that much. Perhaps it was something personal, or he needed some kind of advice from her.

"Sure." She bobbed her head, glancing towards the entrance and then back to Vaith, "We'll have to be quiet though. I don't want to disturb anyone while they're trying to come up with a plan." She smiled and motioned towards Lizzy, before turning to Ren and nodding her head politely. "Excuse us for a moment?" She clearly didn't notice the look or the order that Vaith directed at the gryphon--she had been too distracted listening to the others coming up with ideas for prom.

Xiu weaved around the other students, making her way towards the door as quietly as she could manage. Once she slipped through the entrance, she peered up at Vaith curiously, her head tilted to the side. "Is something wrong, Vaith?"

Ren adopted a mock outraged expression. "What, why not?" he asked, pretending to be offended as he pressed a hand disparagingly to his chest. "Why Vaith, I am shocked that you would deny me the pleasure of eating the food that you have so lovingly prepared for your dear friend here."

He was probably going to get smacked later, but it was worth it to tease Vaith. The reaper had a very dry sense of humor, after all, and Ren grinned up at him.

"No laughing."

....

"And stay."

He had just been told to stay. Like a pet dog. Ren stared up at the reaper, this time his faux outraged expression a tad more realistic. It was only because he knew what Vaith was about to do and because he knew the reaper was only being...well, Vaith, that he wasn't really offended and why he didn't make some smart alecky comment in return.

He smiled up at Xiu. "Of course, darling, you two take your time. I'll be right here."

It didn't, however, stop him from making a face at Vaith as soon as the reaper's back was turned.

"Nothing's wrong." Vaith assured her, one hand lifted to rub the back of his neck. He looked at the door, as if it would give him strength .. which it clearly didn't, as he glanced back towards Xiu. He forced his gaze on her curious expression .. Ren's voiced echoed in his head. He didn't remember the gryphon's exact words but it was something like "get it over with."

"Ah-- I mean. Hm. His phrasing was weird .. Maybe I won't use it." Vaith thought aloud, leaning against the door. The whole "honor" thing didn't seem to match with Vaith's vocabulary very well.

"Would you consider going to prom with me?" Vaith said, the question seeming rather sudden and thrown at the poor ghoul-- But when was Vaith any other way? "That is .. Well, if you didn't have a boil to go with yet."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 24, 2011 7:32 pm

Xiu blinked blankly, knitting her brows in confusion at the boil musing aloud. "Won't...use what?" It was good that nothing seemed to be wrong--or so Vaith had assured her--but the Baku was a little puzzled as to why he had called her out here.

Of course, the reason made itself clear when he suddenly asked her to the prom, something that she had most definitely not been expecting. She gaped at him for a few seconds, her eyes wide and her mouth hanging slightly open, but a quick shake of her head quickly helped her recover. "I, um, I'd really like that!" Xiu beamed, but after realizing how excited she probably looked, the Baku cleared her throat and tried to look slightly more demure. Slightly. Her eyes still betrayed her excitement.

She had already intended to enjoy herself at the prom even without a date, but now she had a friend who was willing to take her. What more could she ask for?
