In rapid succession, Petra squeezed the trigger as she saw her second shot hit, appraising the amount of drift and the feel of the gun in her hand, firing the third not a few seconds after the third. The fear was gone, along with most of the adrenaline, and she could hear the girls beside her chatting softly through the clarity, ignoring them for the most part. She didn't take any time to think, not even giving herself time to inhale, finding firing on the exhale to be somehow the way to go. Whether it was because she realized it slowed her heartbeat just enough to allow her a longer time to fire between them or not, she pulled the trigger quickly before she had exhaled completely from her first shot, her eyes trained on the wrinkled forehead of what was now labeled 'the enemy.'

Boom. Headshot.

Shot 1 : Miss
Shot 2 : Hit - 2 damage

"Are you KIDDING ME?"

Yes, he had been watching. No, he was not happy about how much better Petra had done, or how quickly she had picked up the skill of aiming. She had gone from terrible, to so-so, to fantastic in three shots.

And Robert had just.. sucked.

"Give me that gun." He stormed over to Petra, plucked the gun out of her hands, and dropped his own into hers. "Obviously I got a defective one, or something. I mean, maybe mine has a bug in it." He held the gun up to his face, inspecting the barrel.

With the safety off.

OH, THAT ROBERT.

Petra lowered the gun slowly, the barrel smoking for only a second before the wind dissipated the tendrils and cooled the hot metal, not looking over to her right where she could feel Robert's eyes on her. It was hard to tell whether she was satisfied or not -- her expression hadn't changed from the calculating one she had had not moments before as she had purposefully attempted to blow whatever brains out of the monster they were using as target practice. But it was there, that confliction between who she had been and who she was now, the girl who had always relied on him to be her strength in the dark and the girl who would not let herself need him. As she surveyed the damage done, the creature now riddled with bullet holes from their shots, she knew she would be fine. Zeta Eight wasn't gone, she lingered in the back of Petra's mind like the cold, heartless voice of reason, telling her to shoot what could have easily been a harmless old woman, running from whatever had deserted the town. With the calculating mind of a psychopath lingering behind every thought, she would survive. She would not be powerless -- she could protect herself. And the cold voice of Zeta Eight whispered in her ear that she didn't need Robert anymore.

But if she didn't need him, she wanted to need him. The Zeta 'soldier ' might not have completely dissipated as she'd stepped out of the dark pod and into the cold, clammy room of Deux, but Petra Walker was still the one in control, and on her Robert's warm, crimson eyes, so contrasting to her own cold blue, had an undeniable effect. Memories, mostly... rememberings of the way his arm would tighten around her when she was scared, of how he'd grin at her from across the room, and even when they screamed at each other until they were hoarse. In the end, the whisperings of the person she had been on the island faded, and she slowly tilted her head to look over at him, lifting her eyes, an almost pleased look lacing her gaze as he stormed towards her.

It didn't last long.

Whatever feeling had softened her expression beforehand faded quickly at the rough demand, her eyebrows knitting down into a scowl. "No," she replied in an equally firm tone, already starting to turn her body away as if to protect the gun like a smaller child would protect a toy from a larger bully. Overall, in this instance, not a terribly inaccurate comparison. Robert plucked the gun easily from her smaller hands, suddenly finding it replaced with the one he had shot not moments before, her expression turning more sour still. It was not that she actually believed his was defective -- they both knew that was a load of macho bullshit -- but it was the principle of the thing. This was NOT the thing she wanted. "It's defective, so you give it to me," she retorted a little flatly, already turning towards him, clicking the safety onto his gun before getting up in his personal space, standing on tiptoe to try to grab the gun back, "Bobby, give me back my gun!"

Her irritation, however, quickly flashed into a legitimate wave of fear as he pointed the barrel right up to his face, instinctively grabbing onto the strong, muscular arm that held the gun and pulling down on it, pulling it to her chest and using her entire weight when her on strength didn't even move him an inch.

"You idiot, that's a live gun you're pointing at your face!"

He would never admit it, but Robert gained a little satisfaction from holding the gun just out of reach of Petra's hands. There was also the matter of her being rambunctious enough to try and grab it from him - his mind wasn't the type to think these things out, but it felt so good to have her that close, even if she was just trying to get her gun back. It meant she didn't hate him so much that his presence revolted her.

That, he realized, would be a pain he couldn't bear. He'd rather she be mad at him for the rest of his life, if it meant she'd still get near enough to punch him.

His arm was pulled away, and he looked down at her incredulously. "Relax! What's the worst that could-"

BANG.

The gun went off accidentally, moments from being pulled away from his face.

His now starkly white face.

He handed the gun back to Petra, and ducked his head down like a scolded puppy. His hand was clung tightly around her wrist.

"M'sorry."

No more playing with the bang bang toys for Robert.

That was it, game was over.

She's gone rigid against his arm when it had gone off so close, a little strangled sound of fear escaping as she tightened her grip on his arm, as if that might save him if his fate had been less than savory. Part of her hadn't wanted to look, just in case he'd been hurt -- there hadn't been a cry of pain, but that didn't mean... She wanted a few seconds to just hold his arm like that against her chest and pretend, just a second, just a few more seconds, she'd take it all back if he was alright but if he wasn't please she just wanted to enjoy it for a moment please don't make me let go. But instinct had taken over, and she snapped her head up to stare at him, mouth open a bit in shock no matter what the outcome, mirroring his ashen expression. A wave of relief came crashing down on her so hard at that moment, she was already starting to cry before she could catch it, although it was gone a second later, eyebrows furrowing again, one arm lashing out to punch him weakly in the arm.

"You. Stupid. ******** much for taking it all back.

"You stupid ********," she said again, softer this time, not sounding all that mad, "You nearly blew your brains out."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 02, 2011 3:11 am

Robert winced at every enunciated word, finally keeping his shoulders hunched up at the last scream. He took the punch like a champ, because he deserved it. Not that she had even put her heart in it - in fact, Robert probably would have felt better if she'd neatly socked him in the face. Instead, he had to take his beatings internally, and swallow the pit that had risen up into his throat and clogged it in fear.

Her next words, softer this time, made a sharp exhale of breath leave him. There was no surprise here. He was a stupid ********. He just.. he wanted to be her stupid ******** again.

But instead, he was just a stupid ********, well." He curled one arm around her middle, turning her around to press her back against him. "There's not much there to blow."

His inappropriate joke was followed by a weak, shaky chuckle, which then died out as his face contorted in thought.

"I mean. In my brain. Because you of all people know that I've got.. to.. stop making jokes at a time like this."

For once, Robert had curbed himself.

"Don't be stupid."

Why he would ever want to be with her was beyond comprehension -- why tolerate someone who called you stupid every time you spoke to each other? But there was no malice behind it... there hardly ever was, really, although she seemed to try moderately hard to cover up the fact that her insults were hollow ones. It was all a game they played, or she played with him as an unwilling participant, the latter just as likely as the former, like some sort of dance or masquerade. But in her mind it was always a dance, just because she secretly missed the way he looked so happy on stage, and the time he was mortified she found him in dancing tights, and the way sang loudly in the shower like he didn't care who could hear him through the thin walls of their apartment. She liked it, although she didn't tell him a fiftieth the times he deserved... she loved it, in fact, so much so she'd started singing under her breath if he wasn't there and no one was around, a little louder when the spray hid the noise, just to pretend it was him. She'd never dance, not without him 'urging' her to and only with him there to hold her, and she had no interest in being on stage. But she would sing softly, if only to be reminded of him.

The barrage of punches stopped, and she idly lifted her hand to brush a blue strand of hair out of her eyes, letting his other arm go reluctantly enough to let him wrap it around her waist. Even then, though she had to play the game -- Petra tensed a little as he pulled her back to press the broad expanse of his chest against her back, pretending rather unconvincingly she didn't want to be there.

"Don't be stupid," she repeated, somehow managing not to let even the smallest smile curl the corners of her lips, despite how he would not be able to see it from where he was, "We both know there's plenty to blow."

"Trouble in paradise.." Bix muttered it. "But I said some of these guns were defective." It was obviously impossible that the gun weilders may be defective in some way.

His first comment, of course, related to the bickering 'couple'. He thought they were a couple anyway. They fought like every other couple he'd ever seen. He was surprised that so many people had come through this thing together. They'd apparently joined up together AND successfully survived their first trial. It made him feel a little out of the loop sometimes. Even with Boss, Ariane, who seemed also to have friends here.

His muttered comments weren't directed AT anyone in particular but he was towards the back, pissed at his gun and fumbling with it. His failure with the weapon really, REALLY annoyed him.

Before set his attention back to the others firing and gave Tika an encouraging grin. It was more goofy than conciliatory but no less sincere but wasn't there something about good intentions leading to somewhere very unpleasant? "You're pretty good. I mean you did better with one shot than I did all three combined! And I had a handgun during the testing part," he told her. He cocked his head in thought, "A-and Bix too! With the handgun and all. Not the doing better thing. That is, um, uh, wewillprobablygetmorechancesatshootingthingsintheface. Hopefully not each other," he cringed, referring to the bickering pair that he was going to try to stay faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar far away from @n@'a

As it stood, Before's list of "people to stay clear of" was growing and was making him want to stick to familiar faces more. They were supposed to be a team or a unit of sorts but what can Before say? A ******** lot of them intimidated the ********> out of him. Clearly, he was going to have to re-grow a pair, or grow a spine, or both. Preferably both and preferably sooner than later.

He scanned the others within his line of sight, noticing how most of them had either paired off or grouped up like the Betas and company (he's learned never to get ahead of himself and assume they were "friends"). Except for one guy. Teal eyes blinked as he studied Jude, trying to remember if the solitary man was at the orientation. Uh, Before? You were too busy praying Davey wouldn't rearrange your face to notice, remember? Judging by the intense and open stare he was making, the answer was: No.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:27 am

Jude was minding his own business for the most part. He stood apart from most groups simply because he was never really the type to include himself into groups as if he had been apart of them all along. The young blonde male stood on his own watching but yet not watching since his eyes sometimes pointed elsewhere, mostly toward where people were shooting.

He was busily thinking about things and being off in his own little world when suddenly there was a weight of a stare upon him. A very weighty stare. The stare that made him tilt his head up to look for the one staring at him when he suddenly locked on Before. The blonde raised an eyebrow as they seemed to enter a stare off.

Jude wasn't technically unfriendly but the words spilled out, "What? You wanna kiss me?"

When Jude met Before's gaze, teal eyes remained staring. It was when the blond quipped something about kissing did the brown-haired young man blink. Oh damn it! Before just lost the staring contest 8CCC No, he didn't declare it was one, but he still blinked first and therefore lost all the same. Oh this guy was good, Before had to give him that.

He gave a goofy grin, not the same one he'd given Tika, as this one was more sheepish than encouraging. Again, he blinked, suddenly over-thinking what his expression could be suggesting after being asked that question. "Dude, we just met. And, uh, um, I don't swing that way. Not that there's anything wrong with you swinging that way!!! Or anyone swinging that way or-" once again, Before's mouth was running away from his mind's control. /);A;/)!!!!!
PostPosted: Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:52 am

When the other blinked breaking the 'stare off' that they had suddenly gone into the young man allowed himself to relax now that the unsaid contest was over. He crossed his arms over his chest after making sure the safety of his gone was turned on so he wouldn't accidentally shoot himself as the gun was still held in his hand.

It would have been embarrassing to shoot himself or...someone else.

Jude blinked a bit at the sudden burble of word soup that spilled out, "No. I don't swing that way," there was no humiliated tone nor was there any sort of panic about what others thought. If they continued to think he swung that way? Fine. Whatever.

"Why were you staring at me?" He asked more directly.

When it became apparent to even Before that Jude wasn't going to shoot him, sock him, or inflict any form of physical damage on him, Before managed to finally quarantine his foot-in-mouth disease. For now at least. "'Kay!" he declared, pumping his free fist into the air, acknowledging and accepting Jude's clarification on whether or not he swung that way.

At his question, however, the fist Before had raised was lowered to scratch at his head. "Uh, um, would you believe it was FNAR?" he offered lamely.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 02, 2011 6:08 pm

"It wasn't the gun that was defective," Davey said. He gave Bix a look almost as derisive as the one he then shot Robert. Idiot. Don't blame the weapon for the person holding it.

His attention was dragged away from the guy who almost won himself a Darwin Award. Davey raised his eyebrows as Before yet again managed to insult someone and come off looking the fool.

"Are you planning to make a habit of this?" he asked. Just so that Davey knew whether to keep out of swing radius for when someone finally did answer Before with a fist to the face.

"Ignore him," Davey told Jude. "The mouth moves before the brain catches up."

There was something kind of familiar about the way Jude spoke... Davey wondered what the guy's island number had been. Maybe Davey had met him while working as a fake-Reaper or something.

Jordan watched as the rest of his team took their chances at firing at the creature - Maddie, Ennea, Robert, Petra, and he was just opening his mouth to sy something encouraging when -

Heart attack territory. Jordan took a deep breath, let it out slowly. He said evenly to Robert, "Do something that dumb again and I'll beat you myself." Never mind that he was shorter and skinnier; he would.

... He decided he was just going to ignore the last part of what Petra said. Hadn't heard that.
