Talia answered for the beast of a man who had saved them, making Jacob focus his attention back to her. He gave her a quick nod and returned her smile, glad that their rescuer was not injured too badly. Jacob made a mental note to start learning how to actually fight. The one bandit that he dispatched was beginners luck, he didn't think he would be able to recreate that even if he tried. Not to mention that his sense of justice mixed with a blind fury had taken over. He hated those who prayed on the weak.
"It's only natural, I was pulling an arrow out of your skin. I wouldn't expect you do to anything else." He chuckled softly.
Standing up quickly, he placed his hand lightly against the small of Talia's back, it was a natural reaction to help steady her, though he quickly realized she would have been fine without his help.
"I wonder if anyone else needs to be treated." It was his way of agreeing that they rejoin everyone else.
His sense of direction was pretty proficient from his father sending him out to search for herbs and natural remedies from the forest. He had gotten himself lost a few times but always found his way back, even if it took a few hours. Years of helping his father with the ingredient collections really forced him to adapt and gave him a great skill of mentally mapping his movements.
He used this skill now to make his way back to camp. His feet moved methodically under him, the sickle in his make shift belt loop bouncing against his left thigh with each step.
As he was walking he felt a small cooling sensation against his bare bicep, he moved his arm and frowned, whatever had caused it was gone. He shrugged it off and continued the trek back to the others.
Only ten more steps and he felt it again, this time on his check and left shoulder. He stopped short and looked up into the sky. Without him noticing, storm clouds had rolled in and covered everything with a fluffy darkness. While he gazed up, more snow droplets fell and landed on his face, they felt cool and refreshing, despite that fact that it was already chilling outside. Jacob opened his mouth and caught one on his tongue, right after he did so, he thought to himself What a kid move. He was, after all, still in transition to becoming a man. Even though I would be considered a killer... His features darkened at the thought, he started to feel confused and his stomach twisted into knots.
Jacob pushed the feeling down and was glad to see the others he was traveling with milling about in front of him, it was a nice distraction from what was going on inside of him.
He stepped around a shrub and realized that there was someone new in among them. It was a handsome boy, one with blonde hair much like his own, though his was still stained with blood. The thought made him pull at a piece of it, just too see the color. The boy also had a hand up, as if in surrender. Jacob could only see the back of him but he didn't look too be too much older then himself.
The newcomers words made him scrunch his face with uncertainty. "Nice job on the boss man...?" he repeated "Does that mean..."His forefinger and thumb rested against his chin. He looked at the gushy corpse that was being referred to and assumed that it was of one of the bandits that had attacked. "That must mean he's another bandit?"
His heart pumped a surge of adrenaline in a pulse through his veins and he questioned himself, Should I stop him...But I don't even know what- As if a light turned on in his head he realized that, whoever it was, obviously did not mean them any harm, otherwise he would have come in charging like the rest of the bandits. His pulse slowed as he took a few more steps and sat down on a small empty log. Now he could see the green eyes that gazed back and he was unsure whether he should answer or not, he thought it might be more of a rhetorical statement.
None the less, he scanned the area to see if any of his comrades needed immediate medical attention.

After Lucrezia had stepped into the clearing, she had kept her head down for once; normally she held her head high, the picture of cool indifference but her face was bruised and bloody and by habit, Lucrezia wanted to hide and not let anyone see her until she was healed; once she had not appeared in the village for a month; but there was nothing she could do, and there was more important things to attend to.
Lucrezia walked over to the spot she had left her belongings and dropped the sword; the body of a companion had fallen on top of her things and she knelt down to shove him off. As soon as she bent over, a sharp pain rippled through her side and she inhaled sharply. Lucrezia ran her fingers over her stomach and ribs, she knew from experience that when she eventually peeled off her dress, there would be bruises; she wasn't sure if she had a broken rib but there was nothing she could do about that, she's just have to take it easy. Lucrezia carefully pushed the body off of her things and grabbed her longbow and arrows. Lucrezia inspected her beloved weapon and there seemed to be no damage. Gingerly, she stood up and strapped her bow and arrows to her back; her side ached but she tried her best to ignore it.
Lucrezia looked down at the crude sword that she had killed a man with; she grimaced as the gruesome memory came back to her. Her first kill, it had made her stronger and she didn't feel weak like she did. Without stopping to think about it, she pulled the sword belt off of the corpse that had fallen on her things. Lucrezia pulled it around her own waist, ignoring the pain, and sheathed the sword. It was crude and a little heavy but Lucrezia felt it was hers now, it showed her that she wasn't weak and if Darius ever gave another sword lesson, she would be a far more attentive pupil than she was before. The kill had sparked something in her, it wasn't pleasant but it wasn't negative either; it was though something inside of her had unlocked, she could defend herself... and live.
Lucrezia saw Darius and Ragni nearby, and she felt a bit better, if they lived than their ragtag group might survive too. Darius seemed to be coming to, and Ragni was speaking to him. Lucrezia had generally tried to avoid them since the journey began, she still wasn't accustomed to speaking to men who weren't her husband, and the mercs had more important things to focus on than having awkward conversations with her; but Lucrezia wanted to know what she could do for the group, even if it was mending torn clothing.
Lucrezia walked up behind Ragni and he turned to her; after making his usual flippant remarks, he handed her some cloths to clean herself up; Lucrezia took them with as much dignity as she could muster, her head once again high and her face cool. "Thank you Ragnvald," she said quietly, lightly wiping off the blood from her face, her mouth had taken the most damage, it was swollen and bruised; she looked down at the front of her and wiped blood off of her neck and chest, there was nothing that could be done for the dress, when she had a moment to change, she would have to throw it out.
When Ragni asked her to come with him to loot the bodies of the dead, she looked up at him warily; Lucrezia still remembered the warnings that the shadows had given her about Ragni, they had shown her something and it unnerved her; but the shadows had taken brief control of her body and they had led her into danger. Before she could push the thought away, she couldn't help but feel as though they had raped her. It was an ugly thought, and she shrugged it off.
"All right," she said cautiously and followed him. Lucrezia had never looted a body before so she tried to mimic Ragni as best she could, despite her aching ribs. Lucrezia was glad it was dark, she hated to show any pain. She did her best to loot the body but only found a coin or two. She did find a dagger with a finely carved handle on it and as she headed over to Ragni to show him, he spoke to her.
"My first kill..." she said slowly, the words sounded funny as she said them out loud "It was not what I expected it to be." She wasn't sure how to describe it and she wasn't sure she wanted to reveal anything of herself to him. It was still so new to her but Ragni turned out to be oddly helpful when he spoke again. She listened to his recollections, standing as still as a statue while he spoke.
When Ragni finished speaking, Lucrezia was surprised to find that his dark memories did not bother her, she found it all rather interesting; her instincts told her he wasn't going to hurt her so Lucrezia would not be afraid of him. If anything, Lucrezia appreciated his cold eyes and demeanor, it made her comfortable enough to reveal her thoughts.
Lucrezia smiled, but it was cold and it did not reach her already impenetrable blue eyes "You were right when you said it is like losing your virginity," she said and leaned against a tree, her side still ached and she needed to rest "But for me it was a little different; I had no choice in either situation and there was blood and pain... and I steeled myself for the inevitable loss of innocence." She played with the dagger and began to loot the bodies again "I hated my husband, just as I hated the bandit," she said casually "But... there is a difference. I could never enjoy the rape but the kill... it was exhilarating, I won that battle. He wanted to kill me as mush as I wanted to kill him and I won..."
She looked at Ragni, her eyes were like cold, glittering blue fire and she smirked "I was afraid, but I enjoyed fighting back... because I can fight back now... and I want to learn to do it better, I don't want to be the faded flower that a widow is supposed to be."
As she finished that last sentence, Lucrezia realized just how much she had revealed about herself, and immediately felt vulnerable. Her face had become a little more animated than it usually was but a wall had fallen down and she returned to her secretive self.
Lucrezia handed him the dagger and coins she had found "I'm sorry," she said quietly "I've spoken too much." She nudged one of bodies with her boot "Why did they attack us?" she asked, eager to change the subject.

Ragnvald started pulling cloaks from the dead men, leaving behind the ones that were just to tattered. Slowly he began to bundle up the few swords they had found that were worth a damn. The strapped the new fashioned pack to his bag. The swordsman paused and looked back toward the clearing and then back to Lucrezia, “So are the rumors true then? Did you shove your husband down those stairs, Lu?”
Ragni gave a dark smile as he remembered how he had killed a few lovers who were paid to kill him by a few of his old friends... Or the people that he had borrowed money from. They were acquaintances after all. Almost every time he had deserved it. Ragnvald gave a light laugh under his breath as he remembered killing the pair of twins after rumping. They thought because he was naked that he was a useless s**t. But he showed them after he pulled out a slim blade from the inside of his cheek and killed the first one with a lucky throw of the blade. The other girl was a little easier as he had gained access past the first girl to his swords. It was over to quickly after that. But he still remembered the merchant who did it. The only difference now was that the man was dead now. Ragni had dressed and slipped out the inn window and made his way through the vast trading city he had been living and ended that man as well. All because the man could not take a simple no. Ragnvald would never travel into the Dominion of Truth unless he had too.
Even now it seemed like they would be forced into going there to visit their grand libraries. That was one thing the Truth was bent on doing. Any city they razed they would take all their collected knowledge and either falsify it or do research to claim it was incorrect. The bastards were bent on destroying everyone's beliefs no matter how they had to do it.
Ragnvald made his way back to the clearing and tossed his newly fashioned pack next to the fire and unrolled it to show about ten swords. Some straight, some curved, and some bending in a few ways like a kris sword, all varying in size. “Everyone should probably grab a real sword. Or at least a short sword. If you refuse I have a few daggers as well.”
The young mercenary threw down the bow and arrows and unfurled it to reveal daggers as well as a composite bow and long bow. “I think we should also start moving, staying camped down is just turning out to be a hassle. What are you thinking Darius?”
((If you grab a sword you can make it whatever you want.))

Gnawing, biting burning. The adrenaline that shot into Darius was immediate, and shocking. He felt the worm catcher die. He felt his throat being stabbed, he felt his body being torn to pieces by needles in the darkness. He felt the flame roasting his flesh. The poor old man. His mind reeled as it tried to make a logical reasoning for what just occurred. It had taken only a second for what passed in hours. Was it a dream? It was so vivid. So long and complete in detail. Was it a vision of the future? A look into what had already come to pass? They were heading to Barro now, this is where worm catcher Eddie lived. Was this connected to what had happened to all of them? Ancient mythology spoke of great men doing great thing. But nothing he had ever heard related to what he had just witnessed. It shook him inside and out. His mind scrambled to make sense of it….
People were trying to talk to him, it took him a second to register exactly what they said, and cram whatever he just saw out of his mind. He knew that if he said something, then the others would think that he was just relapsing into insanity, at the same time he was worried that if they went to Barro they could face whatever so easily devoured the worm catcher. He knew he could fight men, he was a much better fighter than your average man. But facing the unknown. He recalled when traveling around in the Burkescht Jungle some of the headhunters who lived out there were hunting a creature that had been preying upon them. It was a big cat, an animal that only lived in the jungle itself. They knew what it was, they had their methods for killing the species honed down over the years. Those little sharp toothed bastards were even better warriors that Darius, and even with all this preparation to hunt the big cat, they lost five men to it. This had the same feel, only Darius had no idea what they were facing, and had no preparation. He decided he would just let fate decide for them all what would happen. Not to rely on anything that could be a lapse of sanity
Someone walked into the camp. He was young and pretty, and not part of their group. Looking at all the corpses. He said something about killing the leader and how he should have killed someone else, Darius was feeling sick to his stomach. For as second was compelled to run the man through. Just because he was a bandit. But his logical mind took over. He had been a bandit before. He knew better than to just strike out at a man, because fate lead us all into strange situations. So instead he forced out a little laugh “Well, if the b*****d makes himself known I will be sure to run him through. My name is Darius. I assume you can already acknowledge that if you are going to be here, we are going to watch your every move. Don’t think we will think twice about running you through.”
Ragni asked him what he was thinking. He didn’t know what he thought. He though that he wanted to move, to get something done, to shake the ******** up feeling that things were wrong. He wasn’t going to be able to sleep, he wanted to press on. “Well, I am thinking that I feel like s**t and can’t wait to get the ******** out of these back woods. And I say that I am going to press on, if people want to follow, by all means do. But I am not going to stop. I am tired of this s**t, and I want to get drunk. Simple as that.” With that he grabbed his pack, and his weapons and crammed whatever else he needed into any free spaces he had and began walking down the dark path. Only for a second thinking about how he promised himself that he wouldn’t let these people get hurt. He knew they could take care of themselves at least until they got to Barro.

Tamaro looked up at them, half wondering if his act would even be accepted. Even he had to admit it was terribly brutal the way he'd dispatched that bandit. If he were them he would be looking at himself the same way they did now, but they didn't see what Tamaro saw when he looked into that man's face. If they were him then they might have done just the same thing he did. He was relieved when Talia smiled and moved toward him, cleaned the blood from his face, and then kissed him on the cheek. A thank you he might have expected, but a kiss was real gratitude. He just adopted a goofy smile and continued to wipe the blood from his face, using some snow to clean it which would melt as it touched his skin from all the heat he produced. He was so focused on it he hardly noticed Talia's near nudity, and he remained so until Jacob began to remove the arrow. Tamaro watched intently, his eyes fixed on the wound and Jacob's deft hands, and Talia's pained stare and gentle cries as she seemed to be focused solely on him. He avoided her gaze at first, a little confused and embarrased, actually, regarding why she was doing this. He pondered what she could have been thinking, though it could have been anything. After all, what kinds of worries go through the mind while being treated for an arrow wound? Maybe she was thinking of what to have for supper, or how they get those model ships inside the tiny bottles, or why flightless birds have wings at all. Maybe it had something to do with fish. Fish sounded so good to Tamaro right then. Inexplicably he began to wonder if she was really thinking about him, though he couldn't imagine any reason why she would wish to ponder such a tedious existence as his own, other than the fact that it had culminated in quite the spectacle of a slaying. The procedure ended swiftly enough and the practiced doctor's hand finally came to a rest. Tamaro realized he'd not given his name and waited a moment in case Talia's interjection on his behalf would mean an introduction was also forthcoming. It was not. Tamaro began to pull nails from his bag and spent a while trying to spell out his name. It took a couple of attempts and much re-arranging and editing, but he finally managed to render it. ~It was a moment too late as the other two were already going. He simply grabbed up the nails and followed. They'd gotten some distance, but Tamaro quickly gained it back running after them. Perhaps it was the adrenaline in his veins, but running felt odd. His legs felt rubbery, but sensitive at the same time. In fact, all of his skin felt sensitive he realized, especially his ears. He followed closely, not having the same sense for direction that Jacob seemed to have. He only knew that he'd run a long way, then chased another man a very long way. He was in no mood to be doing all that running again.

As Sebastian looked around he saw all the corpses near the campsite, and knew that a few of those bastards still lived. He also noticed the three people, two men and one girl, entering the camp as well. He listened to the man's words, this Darius. From the sounds and looks of it he was the leader of this group, or at least one of them. "That sound's good to me, but if anyone tries to attack me first don't think I won't put a knife in their throat," Sebastian said to Darius, finally looking up at him. Sebastian could tell from the distance that he was a formidable man indeed, up close he could confirm it. Obviously this man was a veteran. "Name's, Sebastian, by the way," he said, with a small smirk and a nod of the head. He then looked at the group of new people, recognizing one of the boys.
"You are lucky," Sebastian told him with a grin, walking over to the tree with his arrow in it. "If it was anyone else aiming for ya, they may have actually hit ya. Me, I don't like to kill, so this arrow here. Meant to hit where it did, must have some lucky charm on ya or something," he told the boy as he yanked the arrow out of the tree examining it then putting it in his quiver on his back. Some of the other bandits would usually leave their arrows, living in the wood made it easy to make more, but Sebastian kept all that he could salvage. Unlike the other people, he took his time to make his arrows perfect.
It was at this point that the other man walked into camp, putting scavenged swords on the ground. He hated those weapons. He grew up around them. It sent a small fit of rage through his brain to see them again, now that he was free, but at the same time it sent a small relaxed feeling in him. The weapons wouldn't be used for bandit work again, at the very least. As the man spoke his words about leaving, and Darius actually began to walk away, and idea formulated in the mind of Sebastian. It was a good plan, if a little risky.
"Well, I hate to add another to your party, but if I may. It appears you all are heading out of the forest towards the city or towns. I was wonderin' if I could join ya. Promise I won't do much, and who knows, I could help guide ya through the forest. Lived here almost all my years, and ya could always use another person with fighting experience, if ya ask me," he said to them, hopes high, but either way he didn't mind what they said. He was free. He'd be leaving this forest soon enough, and while he was being honest he also left out the part about him wanting people to help him in case he bumped into Rat.

Nox had stood by and watched as Darius zoned out and the man he had grabbed by the tree had, instead of running, wandered into their cam and began to praise them about the kills that Darius had made with his sweeping strokes of his two-handed longsword. Apparently the man who had his intestines and such in a pile in front of him was the leader of the bandits that attacked trying to rob the group of theirvaluables and lives. The young bandit's prescence among the camp unsettled Nox making him note the pouch at the man's side not unlike his own, it probably held throwing weapons like his own.
Darius had all the sudden sat up grumbling under his breath and began to walk out of the camp, Nox followed and quickly caught up to the hulking man. Nox could see it in the man's eyes he wanted to leave the party of villagers and go to the city on his own as soon as he could get there. Nox got ahead and stopped a few feet away from Darius, looked up at his face and said "Darius you can't leave us! We need you with us. You're the one who cares about us, Rangvald seems too indifferent about things. If you leav us what's going to keep him with this group? Without you we loose Rangvald, and without either of you I am the only fighter left. I can't take charge of them! I...I wouldn't know what to do or where to go we'd all end up dead. Please Darius don't leave us, we need you here with us, you're in no condition to travel alone at the moment, and...and I won't let you go!" The boy then held out both arms out to each side in an attempt to block the man from proceeding, the small sparrow that Nox had adopted was perched on his head mimicking his stance. The boy's face was set hard and serious his resolve unwavering.

Lucrezia said nothing when Ragni had asked her about killing her husband; she hadn't even known that it had been a rumor. She smirked bitterly, killing her husband had been her only fantasy during the time they had married; it had replaced her girlish fantasies of the love of good man, but Lucrezia did not kill him, the booze had.
She followed Ragni back to the clearing, her old sorrows hurting like fingers pressing on a bruise. She let the men talk, she had nothing to contribute. Lucrezia chose to grab her things, she was more than willing to depart the area.
Looking around, she grabbed a thick blue woolen dress out of her bag and slipped away. She headed into a thick patch of trees in the woods and quickly undressed; Lucrezia winced as she saw an ugly dark bruise stretched across her stomach, the bandit had done a lot of damage to her but she made him pay with his life so it would have to be enough; Lucrezia wasn't sure it was enough though, she briefly remembered seeing a shadow flicker in his eyes as he died... was it connected with her shadows... did shadows have their own realm... what did they want with her... how could they have taken her over like that.... Lucrezia had so many questions and no one to ask, it was very lonely.
Lucrezia put her dress on, it was a bit snug in the chest, she hadn't had a chance to make adjustments to the dress before leaving town; her breasts and hips always required making adjustments to her clothes; at least her waist was small though, she didn't have the dumpy figure of so many women in her family. Lucrezia chuckled aloud, she couldn't believe that she was thinking of her looks at a time like this.
Lucrezia strapped her bow and arrows to her back and sheathed the bandit's sword around her waist. She crumpled up the ruined bloody dress and threw it away; Lucrezia couldn't help but wonder if this wouldn't be the last bloody dress she threw away before all of this was over, which led to her second thought, what was going to come next?
Lucrezia sighed and walked back to camp, she wasn't going to think of what was next, she would have to focus on what was happening now. As she stepped into the clearing, she saw Nox standing in front of Darius, giving an impassioned speech. Lucrezia grabbed her bag and wandered over to them; the boy was right on many points but if Darius and Ragni wanted to leave, they could easily do so. She leaned against a tree and folded her arms, watching the scene intently, she wasn't ready to travel alone and they were still her best bet at survival, even with her new-found desire to fight.

Ragnvald could only give a dark chuckle at Nox's speech, but as he thoughts raced about he could not help but burst out laughing. “Ah, kid you are too much you know that. You don't need to watch over these pricks. If they die they die. What should it matter to you? You are not some omnipotent being that can snatch thousands of arrows from the sky or catch a sword blade that has an arm like Darius' behind it. If you rejects want to live then follow us.”
Ragni bundled up the weapons and other odd end items Lucrezia and he had found. After fashioning them onto his charred and tattered travel pack he was ready to move. “In truth I doubt Darius will be walking very fast anyways, so if you just amble behind him I am sure he will not protest.”
The mercenary moved over to where Sebastian stood, the man raised a finger and jabbed it at the bandit's head. “But you are with me! We will be making better time through these cursed woods. I will go ahead and reserve a room for you at the usual inn Darius, sound good I hope. Then we will debate on where to go from there, but it seems like there is only one likely place we will find answers at...”
And of course crazed men with to much time and no use for girls would be guarding it... Damn Dominion.
Ragnvald pushed past Darius and patted the man lightly on the shoulder, giving a friendly squeeze. Then moved past Nox, but all he could muster was a dark chuckle and a shake of his head. “Come on now Sebastian, we have ground to cover. Remember Darius, find me at the Hanged Dog Inn. Try not to get killed... ”
He pushed onward, moving at a forced march speed. There was no more time he could waste. Ragnvald wanted a bath, a woman, and a drink... Not necessarily in that order but he wanted to get away. The young man gave a deep sigh, callused hand running through his dark hair that was starting to grow past his eyebrows and flick at his eyes. “I need a damn mirror... Those are rare items though, eh?” Ragni mumbled to himself as he continued on stomping onward toward Barro. It had been a while since he had seen Barro, but it would be nice to go find a piece of a** and a nice sticky bar to slump down on and drink...
“Come on Sebastian, what are you doing back there?”
Ragnvald swirled about and looked back to Sebastian with a questioning look. But what he really searched for was the outline of Darius and the others... Already they were out of sight though. What would happen if they were attacked again.
Darius you better snap out of your depression. You ********' cur...
Ragni spit to the side and set his pack down, slowly opening it but failed as a black fuzzy head erupted forth with a soft pink tongue accompanying it to lick the swordsman across the face. “You know I don't lick you to say hello, so it would be appreciated if you just barked or yelped. Now get your lazy a** out and walk like the rest of us.” With hardly anymore persuasion the wolf pup plodded out and began to run circles around Ragni and then over to do the same with Sebastian. “So... Sebastian, how do you like the sound of freedom? Just asking because technically you are my prisoner for now. Unless you want to fight about it..?” Ragnvald looked over to the man and flashed a crooked grin and continued on toward Barro.

Aliana stood at the edge of the camp, thankfully unnoticed. She had feared that her late return would draw attention, and the thought of being in trouble for running had made her uneasy. Luck seemed to be on her side.
She noticed Talia had been hurt, but obviously Jacob had already taken care of her. Aliana rather liked Jacob. She had met him when she began going to his father for some basic lessons in medicine only a couple of weeks before the incident on the mountain. He was a sweet boy, always concerned for the well-being of others. She hadn't talked with him much, as he was always busy making medicine and tending to others, but she watched the way he interacted. He possessed an endearing delicacy in his words and actions that convinced Aliana he would be both a good healer and a good father some day. She noticed the way Jacob interacted with Talia, and for a moment the thought of the two of them made her smile slightly.
She turned her attention to everyone else. Tamaro had obviously had quite the fight with one of the bandits. Lucrezia was covered in bruises that made Aliana wince, despite the fact that she knew they would soon fade. Everyone had signs of the violence, except for her. It made her feel almost guilty. On the one hand, she'd proven herself useless even in practice combat and probably would have only gotten in the way. On the other, that was no excuse for cowardice. She chewed a hangnail on her finger for a moment, then sighed, telling herself that next time she should handle the situation better. It never occurred to her that there may not be a next time.
Her attention was drawn to the new young man who had joined the group. One of the bandits, obviously, from the way everyone treated him. Apparently she had missed his introduction, though, because he already seemed to be getting along almost fine with everyone else. He seemed like a decent fellow, so she decided there was no need to worry about him. Instead of bothering herself further with the newcomer, she let her eyes wander to the pile of weapons in the camp that Ragnvald had collected. He urged everyone to take something. So, for the first time since her arrival, she moved further into the camp and looked at her choices. She was not strong enough to swing a sword or draw a bow very well. It left only one choice, so she bent down and grabbed a dagger. It wasn't particularly bad quality, either. Not the best out there, but the blade was obviously quality steel, and the grip was sturdy leather. A modest weapon, but she could already feel that it would service her well. When she was about to thank Ragni, he spoke to Darius.
At this point, Darius got up and spoke of pressing onward. Nox blocked his path, and tried to talk him out of it. The concept of Darius leaving seemed to bother Nox quite a bit. Aliana walked over to Nox, standing behind him and putting her hand on his shoulder. "It's not that big of a deal. He's not leaving. He just wants to go on without stopping. I'm sure we can keep up," she said to him quietly, though he was so determined that she wondered if he even heard her. Then Ragnvald spoke, and what he said made her chew her lip. He had never been particularly eloquent, but some of the words he used for the villagers, herself included, were a little hurtful. Ragni pointed out that they could just follow, and Aliana nodded enthusiastically as he left to get a head start.
"That's exactly it," she said, directing her words to Nox, though she made sure everyone could hear her if they cared to listen. "Look, they're not leaving exactly. They're just setting a faster pace. Even if we can't keep up in the end, it's unlikely something like this will happen again, and even if it does we've all proven our ability to get out of these situations. I know we're all tired from this, but I agree with Darius and Ragnvald, we should go faster. The sooner we get to Barro, the sooner we'll be safe and the sooner we can even possibly figure out what happened." She spoke very quickly and a little quietly, hoping she didn't seem long-winded. She was only trying to offer an explanation that would keep everyone in a good mood. Or at least keep everyone from getting upset, as Nox already was.

Darius just smirked at Nox. He could not understand why nobody was as torn up over all that had happened as he was. It seemed like he was the only one loosing his mind and that worried him. He had always been logical, he had always be assured that he was mentally stable. Now everyone was acting like everything was okay, and that they needed his help, he want to yell at them. He was torn to s**t by the cuts on his body. Another battle like that would be the end of him. His head was pounding, he couldn’t help but consider just acting like nothing was happening. He knew that he was not used to such hallucinogenic events, and he doubted they were either, yet they all acted fine in that regard. He thought maybe he would feel a little more stable if he just reverted back to his old self. The warrior. The sellsword. The mercenary. He would be simply the man who he was forced to be for so long, and maybe find a bit of stability enough to go get drunk and get laid. Sure, he was pretty sure something terrible happened in Barro, but that was something he could deal with when he got there. He would meet Ragni at the Hanged Dog, buy a few rounds, get stupid and have his way with a cute little wench. He looked down at Nox.
“You will be fine without me. Look, I have been lapsing. Things have not been firing right upstairs,” he taps his forehead. “But what I do know, is that my entire life has been bloodshed, and that dying here, and now, before I get my answers, would be a waste of everything up until this point. I have had to kill, and kill and kill, and now, I am choosing to avoid any chance of battle by busting my a**, and getting down the road to Barro. If you follow me, I cannot do anything about it, we are all going the same way. But I am not going to risk my life, at least not without good coin. As heartless as it sounds, I have done enough charity. I have tried to impart my knowledge of battle upon you all. Now, the only way to hone that ability, is to not rely on anyone but yourself. You are a strong male who can kill with his bare hands, use it. “
He listened to what Alaina had to say and nodded.
“See, she has it right. The fact of the matter is that while I like you people, I believe that one must learn to rely upon themselves, and then open yourself to others assistance. Only when you don’t really need it. Now, I’m gunna hustle on to civilization. I have bad feelings about what is to come. I am hoping I can deal with whatever is ahead before it gets too out of hand. Before my mind really breaks. Don’t concern yourself my friend, if fate wills it, we will meet again.”
With that he set off again at a forced march. The pace that was always set by an army needing to get somewhere fast. Not really a jog, fast, but just fast enough to where it won’t wear you down to fast. Where you can march all day without rest. Each step was something of order. Left and right. While not perfectly uniform, the simple focus of movement kept his mind off of his visions. It kept his mind off the thought of bandits in the woods. Normally this is where he would whistle. Only now he didn’t feel like it. He didn’t want to draw any more attention onto himself then needed. Instead he just kept walking. Ignoring the tingling sensation that still ran through his body, the thousands of teeth tearing him apart. He shuddered and placed a hand on his sword. The knowledge of the weapon calmed him.

Talia had walked side by side with Tamaro and Jacob as they reached the clearing. Gasping as she saw the bodies lying in puddles of blood, her heart stilled as her eyes raced to everyone in the place. "Aliana,knox,Darius,Ragni,Lu.." She fretted as a knowing crept into her soul, she looked around until she found what she looked for. "Rotan!!!"
Talia ran to her childhood friend and dropped onto her knees next to him. Rotan lay in a puddle of blood, his still form frightening her. "No no no no..." Talia traced the slash that started on his chin and ended on his waist. "I told you to run!...why?..i took an arrow for you.." Talia sobbed quietly as she touched her friends cheeks, pushing stray hairs from his face. "You fool...you should have ran" Something in Talias heart went numb as she shook her head and searched the mans clothes.
Talia didn't find much, but some simplicities and a small plant in a jar of dirt. She smiled sadly as she took the plant. "Fool..." Talia knew she needed to get up and join the others, survival being the priority here. She lowered her face to her friends and kissed both his eyes and then gave him a soft peck on the lips. "I promise to never forget you..."
Clutching the jar, she walked over to her belongings and placed it inside her pack. Talia then looked at a body laying next to were she was and a growl escaped her lips as she noticed it was a bandit. "Damn you all...." She then kneeled and took a sword that was hanging in his waist and placed it on her own, just before kicking the mans face, leaving his head in a strange angle.
Talia then turned to the matter at hand, she watched as Ragni left with a person she had not seen before. "Its probably some bandit that surrendered or a prisoner" She shrugged not really caring and watched the discussion between Darius and the others.
"A man with a broken soul is very dangerous...careful dove"
Talia shook her head at the Goddess warning. "He is more sane than any of us...we are all twisted." Talia heard laughter and a small smile came to her lips. "You know its true...the man is broken by these...Problems we have been having, and here we all are! as if it was spilled milk"
"Darling, i never said you were not crossing insanity...i am just warning you of Him.."
Talia sighed and walked over towards the group, her eyes stopped at lu first, the woman looked like she had gone through hell. Yet in a part of Talias core, she was happy. "This will only make her stronger"
Talia then looked at knox and his worried expression, it made him seem more childlike and this just made her heart ache. "You have grown up too fast..."
Talia then reached Aliana and smiled sadly as she touched the girls cheeks. She noticed the girl was thinner and looked much lighter, this worried her but not a lot. "When we reach barro, ill make sure she eats something..."
Talia then retracted her hand and gave the girl a nod, glancing over towards Tamaro and Jacob, her saviors. "I was lucky both of them came after me..."
Talia sighed and then turned towards Darius, paying attention to his words. "Its true, we shall follow and there's nothing you can do about it...and i don't blame you for your rationality, we are just but companions in this journey for answers." Talia smiled softly and touched Darius arm, noticing his wounds and she shook her head. "You should let Jacob dress your wounds before we leave...although if we let you go on with those wounds, you wont stray too far..."
Talia knew that even with these wounds, he could outrun them. "don't know if he is a lucky or a dammed b*****d..." Talia just waited to see what Darius would do, she was ready to leave this place and go to barro for answers, it was the best thing she could do for herself and for her friend Rotan.

No one seemed interested at the moment in recieving any mending so he allowed himself to relax.
Jacob turned to Tamaro. "I apologize but I still didn't catch your name, after all I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you." Jacob was oblivious to the fact that Tamaro did not speak.
Jacob sat with his shoulders hunched, his elbows on his knees and his face towards the dirt. He pushed the granules around with the front of his sole, absentmindedly making little twists and curves. After a few seconds he saw a strangely familiar symbol. Where have I seen that before... with the thought, his eyebrows pulled together and his mouth scrunched to the right, his mind trying to find the source of what was at his feet. No answer came. He brushed away the mark with his left foot, swiping from left to right a crossed the design.
He watched as the others started packing up and heading out of camp. Each of them taking what was most important to them, mostly weapons. pulling off his own pack he looked at what he still had inside. A few bottles of pain tonic, one to quell a fever, his bowl and stone, and two empty bottles. He took the empty bottle from his pocket, the one he used on Talia, and shoved it in with the rest of his materials. Now he had three empty bottles. At some point he would need to gather more herbs to restock his medicines.
As he sat thinking of what herbs he would need, his mind wandered to what he was supposed to do next. His main goal in life was to always help others but for the most part everyone here could take care of themselves. He placed his chin on his open palm and thought about what else would make him happy. It made him feel important when he saved Talia, even if it was a stroke of luck. Maybe he could have two goals, to heal others and protect them as well. For the latter he would need someone to show him how. He was lucky to get the quick lesson from Grundis when he did. But what now?
He sinched his pack closed and stood up. He waited for Talia and Tamaro, hoping that he could travel along side the two of them. This is when he spotted Aliana. He gave her a soft smile, glad to see that she was among the living.
His heart sank when he saw who was not. Talia was crushed, he could see that. A feeling of helplessness overtook him; he knew that there was nothing that could be done now. Jacob didn't want to see any more of the death that lingered here and closed his eyes looking away.
He turned his head over to the others whom were almost out of the campsite. Almost making an escape but being halted instead. In reality he understood Nox and had some similar feelings. Jacob felt like couldn't do much on his own, maybe some survival basics, but he had nothing on everyone else here. At the same time though listening to Aliana and Darius, he understood that his worry was unnecessary, they would meet up again.
Jacob found himself looking at the ground, his pack still over one shoulder, "Learn to rely on oneself..." It was a slight whisper, not much louder than the breeze that was moving around him. Was that apart of protecting others? Hmm...
He would not mind treating Darius, in fact he internally encouraged it, but he guessed that Darius preferred to move along. If the soldier did refuse the help, maybe he would accept it later, once they actually made it to their current destination. It would be better for both of them, Jacob still needed to replenish his supplies afterall.

Sebastian listened to the people in the camp. Their despair that one man would leave. It was pathetic, really, but he could understand them. They were mostly unskilled. Only a few of them seemed to actually possess any skill. The rest were lucky. The longer he stayed in the camp the more he understood that. Which was good. He didn't have to worry about anyone starting anything with him. But from the looks of it, he'd hardly need to worry about that. He was going off without the rest of them with this Ragni character. He didn't know him, he wasn't even introduced properly. He just overheard the boy talking to Darius, so he decided that he might be who he was referring to.
With a sigh Sebastian looked walked toward the man. Obviously this wouldn't be a fun trip, and it may end up with him wishing for the bandits back, but he'd tolerate this violent man. He needed to get to the city. After that it was just a few more robberies for "freedom", the money to help him get started up in the city. Then it would be smooth sailing there. Hell, he may even become a city guard. It would be an easy job for him if it ever dealt with bandits. He already thought like a bandit most of the time. Well, in a more peaceful, less rape and kill sort of way.
As he was walking out of the camp he noticed a small girl pick up a dagger, a decent looking one. He stopped just momentarily to turn around to face and say, "If you wan' to learn to use that, I'd come with me and this fella, I'll teach ya on the road and when we get to tha city." With that said he returned to his walking raising his hand over his head to say goodbye. "See ya all in tha city," were the last words he said to the whole group of them before he jogged to catch up to Ragni.
As he fell in beside Ragni he looked down at the wolf pup, a small smile on his face. He enjoyed wolves, they were one of the few animals that lived in packs and out of packs in these wolves. A little bit of both worlds to him. Which was good to him. He as capable of surviving with and without a group. He's proved it before, only for a couple of days, longest a week, but he was capable.
"Let's be sensible, Ragni, if you attacked me I'd disappear into the woods. No matter how strong or fast you are, I know these woods well enough that I could lose you in them. If ya followed, I'd lay some traps for ya. Maybe with daggers, maybe some to just incapacitate ya, or maybe on that would leave a nice hungry animal gnawin' on your private areas," Sebastin replied to the man with a smile on his face. It was true, he could easily disappear, he'd prefer not to, but he could. "Or we could just make this journey to Barro, and get a few drinks while there. It could be a silent journey, or nice talkative one. Ya never know, we might even have somethin' in common. Maybe tragic pasts, or the fact we've both killed.
With all that said Sebastian just stopped and crossed his arms. Awaiting Ragni's reply. He, however, also fingered the hilt of a throwing knife in a hidden pocket in his upper arm. He probably should keep his hand closer to one of his larger daggers, he had two that were each special to him, but it'd be easier to let fly a throwing knife if Ragni attacked. Even if Ragni dodged it or blocked it, he would have enough time to disappear.
