"That's what they tell me," she said laughing. "I ate so many apples that they just started popping up all over my body!" She paused thoughtfully for a second, "Of course, they also told me that if I ate the seeds an apple tree would grow in my stomach. I'm pretty sure they were teasing on that part."

"Are you sure?" Shol eyed her stomach, thoughtfully. "Maybe it's just a really small apple tree? Does your tummy ever feel tickly? Like maybe leaves are moving or something?"

"Only when I'm hungry," the mare said cheerfully. "Well sweety, it's starting to get late. Now that we have you all fed and happy maybe we should go out and try to find your mommy? What do you think?"

He thought about that as hard as he could for about five minutes before nodding. His mommy was probably looking for him. Blossom never really worried about much of anything, even he could see that, while Imoo worried about everything it seemed. Still, Blossom did like to keep track of where her children were. It was easier for her to keep an eye on Elan, who was perky like her, but he was more likely to wander. She'd always found him before. Still, maybe it would be a fun game to find her first!

"Great!" Apple Blossom said giggling with how seriously this little foal took making his decision. They were always so cute at that age!
"Now you're going to have to help me. Any idea where your mommy could be?" she glanced back the way the goal had originally come. "Maybe over there?"

"Nah," he shook his head quickly. "I came from there, and she wasn't there." Then he paused and seemed to consider. "Except she was home, and I came from home, so maybe that's where she is? If so, then does that mean that we should go back that way?" He was starting to make himself dizzy with these thoughts.

"In my experience, it is always best to go home in the end," she said gently and nuzzled the foal. "And I will walk you there, just to make sure you get home safely. How does that sound to you? Of course, you'll have to be leader since I don't really know where we're going. Can you help me with that?"

“Uh huh!” Feeling proud and important, he started marching in the direction he had been heading. Then he paused for a moment, realizing he was going the wrong way. “Right…. Home….” He turned back the way he came and pranced a few steps, then paused again. “Um… You don’t know where home is, right?” he asked, wondering if he should even bother to mention that he was lost, or if he could pretend that he wasn’t and find his way.

"Your home, dear? No, I really don't know where that is," Apple Blossom said watching the baby thoughtfully. "And I guess you don't either. Oh my, this is going to make this more difficult. Well, we will just have to make the best of it. Come along, and as we walk, you will tell me about home. Do you live near the woods or a steam or the mountains? What do you see from home? How long have you been walking today?"

“Well….” He started walking. “I left this morning and followed a pretty butterfly. Daddy grew up in a meadow with the rivers all over the place. Or maybe they’re streams. Is it a river or a stream when it’s really skinny and branches all over the place?”

"Something like that. No wonder you were so hungry after walking so far," the mare said gently, still trying to coax more information out of the baby. "And you live in that meadow with your father?" A day's walk for a foal following the erratic path of a butterfly wouldn't be that hard to figure out, although a few more landmarks wouldn't hurt in their search.

He nodded. “Yep, with Daddy and Mommy and Elan,” he said. “Elan is my brother. He’s a lot like Mommy, all bouncy and energetic. Daddy twitches a lot when Elan talks, almost like he does when Mommy does. Only, I think Daddy twitches more when Mommy talks, and he always tells me that if Mommy says something is okay that I should ask him just to be sure cuz Mommy has a weird idea of okay. Elan doesn’t ask Daddy, though. He does what Mommy says is okay. Is that normal?”

"Sounds like it's normal for your family," Apple Blossom giggled. "Say..." she narrowed her eyes on the boy carefully, "Who did you ask before you wandered off after that butterfly?"

"Well, didn't you ask one of your parents if it was ok to leave?" Apple couldn't imagine a baby so small taking off all on his own without a word to anyone.
