R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which alcohol is consumed and there is struggling in the sand.
Avery Calder Well, if I'm going to be stuck here, then I suppose I should explore the place and learn were everything is on this damned island. Avery had just finished washing his clothes yet again, thinking about how he really needed to get something more to wear. It would suck to have to clean his clothes every day. He headed off away from the duplexes towards the western beach, walking along the sands until he noticed the bar. Curious, he approached, and found something Avery had not had a chance to indulge in for a while. Alcohol. Yes.He glanced around, at first to make sure no one was around to catch him - but then he realized that if he is going to be stuck here and transformed into a ******** animal, to hell with drinking age laws. He helped himself to the alcohol, making himself a mixed drink. Zachary Bloodstone Zach tapped his fingers on his notebook. He hadn't had anything to write lately. There seemed less and less reason to be keeping the thing if he wasn't going to write. And especially after he'd burned some of the most important pages before he'd left for this place... sometimes he just didn't like rereading.
The beach was altogether barren, though he could see a figure in the distance who had found what looked like a wooden alcohol bar of sorts. He could do with a look around, and maybe talk to someone. Someone human. They were a rarity in this madhouse.
As he approached, he could only see the figure from the back. The hair appeared femenine in its length as he approached. She appeared to be mixing a drink. If he had felt a little more out of his mind, he'd probably indulge, but today he didn't feel very confident about whether he could hold any alcohol. Not that he had a weak stomach... it just reminded him.
"Hello!" he called to the girl as she finished mixing. He was almost at the little bar by then.
Avery Calder Avery looked up when he heard someone call out. He grinned and waved to him - looks like someone else he hasn't met yet... and someone else who hasn't transformed, either. "Hey there! Come on over and have a drink with me." Avery grabbed another glass and mixed a second drink to offer to the other man (Avery really didn't know what he was doing, having never mixed drinks before - he just poured in some flavors he knew that he liked and hoped for the best). He waited for the other man to reach the bar before holding out the glass to him. "I have no idea what this is, but I'm sure it's good. I made myself the same thing, we can drink together," Avery grinned. He was in a great mood now that he found this bar. Zachary Bloodstone Zach stopped a second at the voice. That was... was that a GUY? Odd voice for a girl, at least. And the face...
Well, he'd seen stranger things than crossdressing. Maybe he should take the drink. After reaching the bar, he took the glass the other woman... man... whatever offered. "Surprised to find something like this here. Alcohol..." He didn't make a move to drink it. Not yet.
"You have a name?" He asked. He brightened up suddenly realizing he was actually talking to another human. "I don't suppose you've heard about what this island is for..."
He wasn't going to give the talk on the island again when he knew so little and had even less evidence.
Avery Calder "Yeah, my name is Avery, and yeah, I know what this island is for..." he sighed. "A good reason to drink, eh?" Avery downed his drink all at once, tilting his head back to train the glass. He shivered and made a face at the taste. Okay, don't mix lemon juice and watermelon again... they definitely didn't go well together. "So what's your name?" he asked, peering at the different bottles in the bar and starting to mix up another drink. Zachary Bloodstone After some scrutiny, Zach figured that Avery was definitely a guy. He looked fairly young, so he must not have learned to mix alcohol. As soon as Avery's back was turned, Zach dumped the contents of the glass onto the sand. He wasn't fond of alcohol, especially a bad mix.
"I'm Zachary," he said. "You have a good point." He put the cup down on the bar for a moment to better stuff his notebook into his pocket. Having one hand was a bit of a disadvantage when it came to holding things. He left Avery to his beginner mixing and quietly took the rum bottle to pour a shot's worth into his glass. It seemed a wasted effort to try to mix a drink at the moment. He downed it, feeling the unusual burning to his throat, and winced at the remnant flavors of lemon and watermelon.
He looked out at the ocean and its huge rolling waves. "I'm starting to think I'll never get off of this rock," he muttered, half to Avery, half to his glass.
Avery Calder Avery laughed at his comment; he didn't notice Zach pour out the drink. "Yeah, you're telling me... I've been stuck on this damn island for a while now... I've given up hope," he murmured, before downing his second drink. Yeah, that's more like it, he thought, already feeling a little buzz from the alcohol. It didn't take much to get Avery drunk - he was a lightweight. He picked up a bottle of coconut rum and, deciding to forgo mixing the drinks anymore, pulled off the top and just drank straight from the bottle. "Now all I can do is wait to change." He peered Zach, only just now noticing his missing arm, but he didn't comment on it. "So, how long you been here?" Zachary Bloodstone Zach glanced at Avery getting tipsy so quickly. He didn't make any move to stop the kid from drinking so much alcohol. He'd find out the hard way. He didn't feel all that sober himself, and he'd only had a shot.
"This island... is a nightmare. With everything I keep seeing and hearing, it's getting harder to just sleep at night." He placed his glass down on the bartop. He tensed a little when Avery mentioned how he'd given up hope. Lately, Zach had given an unusually large amount of thought to the possibility that he really wouldn't escape. It was an awful feeling, waiting for the inevitable. "I've been here for a week so far, but it seems like an eternity... how about you?"
He wasn't sure why he was so comfortable around Avery. Probably the lack of obviously animal features. It's never quite as easy to talk to someone covered head to toe in fur.
Avery Calder "Just a week? That's nothing... at least you didn't get washed up on shore, and get stuck out in the ******** forest, and be forced to sleep in lean-to's while trying to wait out a damn tropical storm with a bunch of animal people... at least you got a roof over your head as soon as you got here, right?" Avery shook his head. The first few weeks he was on the island was some of the worst days of his life. He'd never had to go through something like that before. Hell, the worst day of his life was the first day he got here... Avery knocked back a few more gulps of the coconut rum before setting the bottle down on the bar (a little too hard). He reached out and put his hand on Zach's shoulder, half to steady himself on his seat, and half to make sure he had Zach's attention. "Listen, man, just... I don't know. Have as much fun as you can now before it all goes to hell, 'cause you never know what you're gonna change into... I hear the doctors have a sick sense of humor about these things..." Zachary Bloodstone Oh, great. This guy was an angry drunk. After making sure there'd be a good amount of room between the two of them, Zach nodded his head and listened. It was true, they provided well for the... people... on the island. But that wasn't as valuable as one's physical humanity, in Zach's opinion... well, eventually he would have to give up that philosophy. He gathered the drunken rant to be a description of the lock-out he'd heard mentioned several times. Jamal had said...
Honestly, he couldn't say much that wouldn't get Avery into a rage. He quickly changed subjects. "You washed up here? That's awful!"
As soon as the hand came down on his shoulder (the right, luckily), Zach tensed up. He ran his hand absently through his bangs to part them better. "Avery, I just can't do that. I can't just do nothing. I... I saw someone change. A guy named Rex." His fear would never let him sit by idly and wait as he shared a similar fate. Avery was lucky not to be as stubborn, or perhaps he simply didn't have anything left behind to worry about. Zach did...
Avery Calder Avery tensed up and looked at Zach with wide eyes. "You saw Rex change..?" He removed his hand from Zach's shoulder, burying his face in his hands with his elbows resting on the bar. He should have been there for him... it would have been the least he could have done. "Was he in a lot of pain?" Avery murmured. "I saw someone change too, but she was already further along in the changes..." He hoped that maybe the early changes weren't as painful as the ones that happened later on. Zachary Bloodstone Zach nodded. He had... and the shock of seeing it had caused him to faint. Avery looked distraught. He must have known Rex, then, judging by the remarks. As the younger guy turned away to hide his face, Zach slowly creeped over to Avery's other side and carefully lifted the bottle of rum off the bar and set it down on the ground where, presumably, he wouldn't see it as easily in his drunken state.
Zach took a seat next to Avery again. He frowned. "He... was. I couldn't watch the whole way through, I sort of..." He shook his head. Avery must've been pretty strong to be able to watch someone change - it was difficult to see someone become part animal right before your eyes, knowing you could do nothing to help them.
Knowing this news would only further depress Avery, Zach returned Avery's original gesture by placing his hand on Avery's shoulder. The kid looked like he'd need all the support he could get, especially inebriated.
Avery Calder Rex had told Avery not to blame himself, but he just couldn't help it. He couldn't help thinking that if he were straight then the men on the boat would not have tried to gang up on him, Rex wouldn't have had to help him, and then none of this would have happened. When Zach put his hand on Avery's shoulder, he immediately turned towards him and hugged him, pressing his face against Zach's shoulder to hide the tears falling from his eyes. "Zach," he sniffed. "It isn't... fair. Why do bad things have to happen to nice people? I never did anything bad... well... not bad enough to deserve this... and Rex is a great guy... he doesn't deserve this either..." Avery was practically leaning his weight on Zach now - if he wasn't there to support Avery, he would have fallen right out of his seat. "And you're... you're a nice guy too." Zachary Bloodstone Zach was unprepared for the sudden hug. His right hand was hanging in the air a little, fingers curling slowly. There wasn't anything more awkward he could think of at the moment. He had nothing against Avery, he just... didn't really like hugs?
He didn't attempt to pry Avery off, though he did shift to make sure he wouldn't fall off his own stool. He could see Avery shaking a little, which made him feel awful. He should have lied. He should have just said it was painless, and let Avery find out the hard way.
Zach knew deep down that he did deserve whatever twisted fate he recieved. He had done something regrettable. He instead tried to find the right words this time, hoping Avery would stop clinging if he played his cards right. "Sometimes, we're just unlucky. Maybe you'll get a fun animal or something..." Bullshit, all bullshit. Being trapped on this island forever simply wasn't worth it. "You and Rex... maybe they'll go easy on you guys... Rex is a lion, after all, that's pretty-"
He stopped suddenly, realizing the meaning behind Avery's statements. He got a little red in the face, and not from alcohol. His discomfort doubled.
Avery Calder "... cool, I guess," Avery said, finishing Zach's sentence about Rex for him. "Fun... what's a fun animal..? Maybe... like... a cat... I could climb up trees and have retractable claws and stuff," Avery chuckled. "And if I fell, I'd always land on my feet!" He wasn't crying anymore now, the alcohol affecting his mood swings. "Thanks for trying to cheer me up, Zach... you're a nice guy..." he mumbled, and then Avery slid out of his own stool and tried to climb into Zach's lap, wanting to get closer to hug him again. Unfortunately the stool couldn't balance with Avery trying to climb up, and he caused it to tip backwards, sending both of them falling onto the sand - Avery landing right on top of Zach. Zachary Bloodstone Zach didn't really have anything he could say. His mind had flat out stopped. He didn't have it in his heart to push Avery off his shoulder or anything... it really was just very weird to have someone hanging on you and crying. He had stopped crying though. "A... a cat... yeah..."
Suddenly, Avery tried to put more of his weight onto Zach, and both fell to the sand. Zach was glad he'd had the alcohol those minutes ago. He had little balance as it was, so he landed on the bottom... with a drunken Avery on top.
"Avery..." That was it... he really couldn't handle this. His tolerance level was reaching a breaking point. No sleep, no friends, and no hope of returning to a world where the laws of science were sensible... "Avery, get up..."
His face now an unbelievable shade of red, he tried to push Avery off to his left. He only had one hand to shove with, and the guy didn't seem to let go. What was he going to do?
Avery Calder "But I don't wanna get up," Avery whined. Why get up when he was perfectly comfortable laying on top of Zach? What else was there to do on the island? Besides, Avery wanted to cuddle with someone... he missed cuddling. He didn't know anyone else he could cuddle with on the island, except maybe Rex, but he didn't want to risk making him uncomfortable and losing a friend. When Zach tried pushing Avery off, he sighed heavily. No, he didn't want to get up... but he relented, and rolled off of Zach - he wasn't getting away that easily, though, and Avery clung to Zach's arm. "Please don't leave me alone..?" Zachary Bloodstone Zach sighed quietly. This wasn't going to be easy. He wasn't used to... crossdressers... at all. He had nothing against them, he just wasn't fond of them lying on him. He began to reason with Avery. "Sorry, I just..."
He was quite surprised when Avery rolled off. Zach stayed lying on his back a moment before getting enough of a grip on the ground with one hand to sit up. There was sand all in his hair, and jacket, and pants, and a hell of a lot in his shoes too. He noticed the guy hanging on his arm. Avery seriously needed to lie down or something, Zach didn't trust him out here with the ocean. Avery could be drunk enough to do something stupid, and drown...
"Can you... walk?" he asked. Doubtful, just looking at him. Avery seemed to be completely and totally drunk. "No, I guess not." He looked around.
To hell with it. Just about all the others on this island were animal people. They had nothing on "normality", whether they chose their fate here or not. He had little enough time left to enjoy his, slowly realizing that his hopes of escape would not happen. "Don't worry," he smiled nervously to the drunk, "I'll stay here for a while..."
With Avery's hands still limply clamped on his arm, he motioned to the abandoned bottle of rum on the ground. "Can you pass me that?" If I'm going to hang around here with you, I'm going to do it intoxicated.
Avery Calder Avery sat up and grabbed the bottle of rum, taking a few gulps before holding the bottle out to Zach. "Here ya go, man." The alcohol was making him feel happy and light headed. He planned to steal some of the alcohol and bring it back to his duplex - if he remembered to - and if there wasn't a mini-fridge in there, he would just have to drink it. Once Zach took the bottle from him, Avery decided he didn't want to stay sitting anymore and flopped back down into the sand. Yes, that was much better. Zachary Bloodstone Zach snatched the bottle and immediately took a swig of it. The stuff went down a little painfully, and he knew he'd get sick, but he was beyond caring. He barely thought about the fiery feeling of alcohol in his throat, or that the more he was drinking, the less clearly he could distinguish between the sea and the sky.
And he didn't seem to realize that Avery wasn't his old girlfriend from several years back.
That b***h had been the source of all his problems. Still was. No wonder he'd never found her after she'd run off with his money. He had a strangely happy feeling she was right here to pay for it. The bottle slipped out of his fingers and fell on its side with a dull thump in the sand, spilling its contents. Zach's face was flushed with drunkenness and he was glaring deliberately at the intoxicated guy next to him.
"Jessica!" he snarled, more slowly than normal. He tried to stand, but couldn't seem to stay up, and had to resort to a crawl to get close enough to Avery to tug on his hair. Jessica never used to dye her hair, but who knows what she had done with all that money?
Avery Calder "Heeey," Avery chuckled, reaching for the spilled bottle, "be careful, you dropped the--" his words were cut off with a startled yelp when Zach suddenly yanked on his hair. He reflexively reached back, grabbing his hair to try and pull it out of Zach's grasp weakly. "That hurts! What are you doing!?" And who the hell is Jessica? Avery wondered, looking at the other man with wide eyes. He was afraid. He was terrified. Why was Zach trying to hurt him? But whenever Avery tried to think of why, he could only think of what happened to him on the ship. But this time, there was no one around to save him. Avery tried to stand up, but he was too drunk to even get to his feet. "Please let go," he whimpered, tugging on his own hair again. "Don't hurt me..." He knew that he couldn't hold out in a fight, even if Zach did only have one arm. Zachary Bloodstone Zach let go suddenly out of surprise. That wasn't Jessica's voice... he blinked and tried to understand what he was doing, but the person next to him looked just like Jessica. Right down to the blonde hair. Why wouldn't it be her...?
"Not gunna hurt you..." he muttered, still confused. Not yet. He wouldn't hurt her until he got his damn answer. Though Avery now had his hair free, Zach grabbed his wrist and twisted, not coordinated enough to do damage, but it would certainly hurt. His voice was full of anger. "Whythehell didja do it? Why?"
Avery Calder As soon as Zach let go of his hair, he started to crawl away. He felt like he was going to be sick. He was drunk and confused; he had no idea what was going on. But he didn't get far, crying out in pain when Zach grabbed his wrist and twisted his arm. He froze where he was, not wanting to move and cause more pain or possibly break his arm. "I... I don't know what you're talking about... I didn't do anything, please..." Zachary Bloodstone Zach didn't let go this time. If he tried to do any more moving, he felt like he'd throw up. Instead, he stayed where he was on his knees in the sand. He wasn't going to hold this grip for long - he was on the verge of passing out.
"Notheanswer I want," he huffed in outrage. His fingers were slipping. "You lying b***h!"
Jessica was damn lucky he didn't have his left arm, or he'd have smashed her face in by then, he felt. He'd have done it... really. She deserved it too. For everything. He wavered a moment, thoroughly nauseous, then tried to close in on Avery...
Before he could get close enough, he lost his balance and fell. He was out cold as soon as he hit the sand, the huge amount of alcohol having taken its toll on his system. His fingers slid off Avery's wrist soon after.
Avery Calder Avery winced when Zach yelled at him. Oh god, he's going to hit me, he thought with horror. He shut his eyes tightly, waiting for the blow to come... only it didn't. He felt Zach's grip on his wrist loosen and then slip off completely. Avery glanced back just in time to see Zach pass out in the sand. This was his chance to run. Thoughts of bringing alcohol back to his duplex forgotten, Avery struggled to his feet and ran back as fast as he could, leaving Zach behind. Like hell he was going to help him. He managed to get back to his duplex safely, only falling down four or seven times on the way. As soon as he got into his room, he slammed the door shut, locking it. He would have started crying right there, but he felt too sick - he ran into the bathroom, falling to his knees in front of the toilet and promptly lost all the alcohol he just drank.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Rex and Avery talk about Zach and Billy.
Rex Vadnais Rex really enjoyed hanging out on the beach with Lauren. She was a nice girl and they held alot of things in common! As he sat in the shower, memories of their similarities clouded his mind as the condensed steam clouded the bathroom mirror. He needed to scout a place to build a grave for Julie... she'd like that.
Lathering the sampoo in his hair, he rubbed it through his hair, sometimes a shower was all you needed. Though they always ended far too soon. He turned off the water and threw back the shower curtain, reaching for his towel to dry off. Avery Calder Avery, on the other hand, did not have a grand time on the beach at all yesterday. He had woken up that morning with a terrible hangover, and spent most of the day in bed, worried about running into that Zach person again. He eventually forced himself to get up and shower, changing into his only other set of clean clothing (pyjamas). He felt a little better after the shower, and decided to go find one of his friends so he wouldn't just sit around by himself all day. Avery left his duplex and headed to Rex's duplex, since he had not seen him in a few days. He stopped outside duplex 35 and knocked on the door, hoping he was around. Rex Vadnais Rex's towel flew wildly in a hurry as Rex dried his hair, then he heard a knock at the door. Gah! He scurried to wrap the towel around his waist, still pretty wet, and ran to get the door. It revealed his little bud, Avery. "Hey!" Rex laughed, I must look like a mess.
He stepped to the side of the door frame, one hand holding his towel up, the other motion for Avery to enter. "C'mon in, I just got out of the shower." The remaining steam drifted from the bathroom door, but all-in-all the duplex was pretty clean. Not that there was alot to make it messy with. Avery Calder Avery didn't think Rex looked like a mess at all. In fact, he thought he was quite attractive. "Thanks," he smiled a bit and went into the room. "Sorry, I didn't mean to come in at a bad time... how are ya doing?" Avery asked, making himself right at home and plopping himself into a chair. He was already feeling more comfortable now that he wasn't sitting around alone. Rex Vadnais "Oh no, not a bad time at all! Don't worry." He grinned and went into the bathroom to finish drying himself off.
Calling out to Avery, "I'm not too shabby! Just doing the only thing you can do on this island." He paused, slipping on his boxers and peeking a head out the door, "Nothing."
Rex grabbed his shirt and put a leg through the pant of his jeans, hoping out into the main room one one leg as he pulled the jeans on and fastened them neatly. "How about yourself? Been handling things better? I see you've yet to change." Rex sat down on the bed and looked at Avery in the chair across from him. Avery Calder "Yeah, it is pretty boring here," Avery sighed, leaning back in the chair. "I wish there was more to do..." He waited for Rex to finish getting his pants on before looking up at him. "I was doing okay..." Yes, he could talk to Rex about it... he should tell someone. "Um... yesterday there was this guy I met at the bar on the beach. I dunno what his problem is... but he tried to attack me..." Of course, having been drunk, Avery didn't remember all the details - such as Zach calling him Jessica. "We were just having some drinks and talking, and then he just -- I don't know. Went crazy." Rex Vadnais Rex slipped his shirt over his head when he remembered, clothes. "Oh! This girl Lauren I met said that the labs could get us just about anything we needed!" He glanced around the room, looking for the intercom box she told him about. "Oh here! You just press zero to get to the labs. I don't know why you need all of the other numbers on the pad though. Maybe to call other rooms?" He needed to get some clothes rather badly, as cleaning his only pair got rather annoying quickly.
He listened to Avery's story about the man on the beach. Zach? he wouldn't do that would he? "You're kidding me. I've met him more than once.. he even saw me transform... why would he try to attack you?" Rex sized up Avery, he was underage and pretty small. How many drinks had they had? "Were y'all drunk?" Avery Calder Avery was relieved to hear that they could get anything he needed. He made a mental note to ask for more clothes, blue hair dye - and maybe they'd even give him a new candy necklace? - whenever he went back to his own duplex. "Um... we had a few drinks..." he said, biting his lip as he thought about it. "Well, okay. Maybe more than a few... we got wasted. But, I didn't even say anything mean to him! Oh - er - and I might have tried to crawl into his lap. Maybe. But that's still no reason to twist my arm... I'm just glad he passed out." Rex Vadnais "Well don't think too poorly of that Zach guy, he can be a little... awkward, but otherwise he's a generally nice kid." Rex shrugged taking his seat down on the bed once again.
"So, Awen sure left in a hurry." Rex recalled the look on her face when she stormed off towards the beach the morning he'd changed. Did she even realize that he'd chagned to begin with? "I hope that she's okay." Rex slumped his shoulders and shuffled the ground with his feet. Avery Calder Avery wasn't so sure... but he supposed he would take Rex's word for it. After all, he knew that out of anyone on this island, Avery felt like he could trust Rex. He looked a little surprised when Rex mentioned Awen. He doesn't know..."Um... sorry, I thought you knew... but... Awen didn't make it. Turns out the doctors did think of it already... she can only swim in fresh water, not salt water." Avery wondered how she was holding up, and if she still had the IV hooked up to her. "She was at her duplex when I saw her last, and she had an IV... she seemed to be doing alright, otherwise." Rex Vadnais Rex's heart plumetted faster than a freefalling elevator at the words "Awen didn't make it." Images of her being torn to shreads by sharks in the open water or drowning because her gills weren't fully grown yet came to his head. He let out a sigh of relief when Avery continued though, grasping his chest for air. "You had me terrified for a second... I thought that you were going to say she died." He could feel his startled heart pumping in his chest madly, that was a scare he could have done without. He sighed once again and said, "Well.. at least she's alright. Hopefully there wasn't too much damage." It was official, the doctors had thought of everything ahead of time, Rex's fate was forever sealed here. Condemned to the island. "When did you find out? How's she doing?" Avery Calder "Oh, I'm sorry! No, she's really doing fine... I didn't mean to phrase it like that," Avery said quickly, not wanting Rex to worry too much. "I found out just a couple of days ago. She was just relaxing outside her duplex with another girl, talking... she seems to be doing okay, though. I haven't visited her again yet since the last time I saw her." Rex Vadnais Rex relaxed, glad to hear that she was okay. What could have happened in salt water that didn't happen in fresh? Maybe they incorporated some slug into her serum so that if she ate came in contact with salt, her skin would bubble. A shudder jolted Rex spine at the thoguht of bubbling skin. Certainly there must have been some gruesome things that happened here on the island.
Had anyone's skin done gross things like boiling? He remembered a few mornings prior, when he transformed. That was certainly not a happy moment. Though looking down at his furry arms and clawed hands, something about it sat well in Rex's mind. He enjoyed the transformation, however morbid it may be. Though Lauren had the same attitude, and Avery seemed to be warming up to the idea as well.
"So, have you gotten any hints on what animal you might change into? I think being a lion won't be so bad, and I'm sure you'll get something ...tolerable as well!" Avery Calder Avery couldn't help feeling a little annoyed. Why did Rex have to keep talking about the transformations, when all Avery wanted to do was forget about them? "I don't know," he mumbled. "Where would I get hints? Nothing has happened to me," he said, but he didn't get his hopes up. He supposed it was only a matter of time, since he and Rex did arrive at the same time... so that must mean they were both injected at the same time as well. "Well, I guess at least you got a cool animal. Just so long as you don't try to eat me or something. That would kind of suck." Avery hoped Rex really wouldn't get the urge to eat people. He wondered how transformations affected one's appetite. Rex Vadnais Rex suddenly felt like he'd regret asking, the thought of chaning was just so exciting for him, but he was also a little messed up in that department of the brain. He sensed Avery's reservation in his body language, "Hints.. uhh.." Rex's jaw dropped in consideration, then he remembered his diet previous to changing. "Oh! I know. I was eating alot of meat before I changed... come to think of it... all of the food I've had one this island since the buildings reopened has been meat. I've only had a salad once or twice. Have you been eating funky?"
The thought of eating people was savage and ravenous. Would he ever get to the point of eating another human? Well.. he wasn't exactly human any more, but there'd always be a bit of humanity left in him... right? "I promise I won't eat yeh, bud." He patted Avery playfully on the lap and grabbed a pillow to lean on. Avery Calder Avery tried to think of his behavior since he arrived on the island. No, he did't think he acted or ate any differently than usual. Well, other than not being exactly his normal hyper and happy self... but wasn't that to be expected, considering the circumstances? Who would be happy in a situation like this? Well, other than Rex. "I dunno... I don't feel any different. I don't think I've been eating differently, either. I still eat a lot of all kinds of foods... I'm not that picky," he shrugged. "So, I guess an animal that likes all kinds of food? I don't know any animal like that..." Rex Vadnais Rex certainly was not an expert on these serums, injections, animals and science. Most of the things he'd said were drawn from his own conclusions, there wasn't much that he could say he knew as a fact. If this whole island thing had been going on for more than seven months (according to Amaya) without Rex hearing even a whisper of it, he began to doubt if anything could be called a 'fact' any more. Everything he'd known before seemed to become washed away with the tides.
"I don't know what to say... hrm..." The whole diet thing was the only hint that his mind could snag. Otherwise he was drawing blanks. "If you're feeling bold you could always call the labs and ask." He smiled, only partially joking, then shrugged a bit. Avery Calder Avery grinned at Rex. That didn't seem like a bad idea at all to him. "Yeah... that's a good idea. I think I'll do that when I ask for them for clothes and stuff." Hell, if these guys were going to turn him into an animal, the least they could do was tell him what kind, right? "Anyway... what kinds of things have you been doing? I'm getting really bored here, there's nothing to do... no clubs or anything like that." But then it dawned on him. It should almost be the end of March by now, right? Avery had lost track of time, but he had a vague idea of what day it was. "Isn't April Fools day almost here?" he grinned with a mischievous look in his eyes. Rex Vadnais Rex's eyes widened at Avery's response. Was he really going to do that? He laughed audibly, "You're really going to do it aren't you? Good man, good man." He chuckled and clapped his hands twice lathargically.
"I actually haven't been doing much of anything lately, done alot of running. It's hard to keep in shape since I don't think that there's a gym around here of any kind. Then again, the island isn't terribly small, mayb- hopefully, I just missed it. It's hard to keep in shape without any equipment or much else." He motioned to his practially empty room, he really didn't have anything of value other than his ring and his necklace.
A fiendish smile stretched Rex's lips, "April Fools' Day, eh? I don't know whether to be excited or scared... Do you have any ideas in the works?" Avery Calder "Of course! It's the least that they owe me if they're not going to give me a choice." Avery shrugged. "Besides, it can't hurt to ask. What are they gonna do, turn me into an animal? 'Cause they're already doing that," he grinned. "Keeping in shape, huh? I dunno, you look pretty in shape to me. But maybe you could just request some exercise equipment? They could build a gym, or something. I think everyone would like that," he said. At least it would be something else to do here. "I... might have a few ideas," he replied. "I'll need to get supplies though..." Oh yes, he planned to cause havok. "And I definitely need to pull a prank on our dear friend Billy." Rex Vadnais He blushed a bit, "Thanks, I uh.. try?" He chuckled a bit, "It's a pretty big request, but it's not like Moreau doesn't have the money for it. I mean, what with the injections I imagine we're worth millions." He shrugged, picturing himself back on the mailand being prodded by government scientists. That wasn't a happy thought...
Rex chuckled evilly, "Another prank on our dear friend Billy? Ooh boy, I don't know what we can do to top the girl one. Have you seen him since we were in the cafeteria? How long do you think the prank'll last until he finds out." Avery Calder Avery just laughed. "No, I haven't seen him again yet. But I gotta borrow some clothes from Awen or Em. I'm sure that'll keep the prank going even longer. Man, I can't believe even after groping my chest, he didn't realize..." he laughed again, shaking his head. "He is kinda creepy looking, but I can't help it - it's too funny not to keep the joke going." Rex Vadnais "Holy cow, I know! You said that you weren't a 'lady' to his face. How oblivious can one guy be? He seems kind of... slimey... if that makes sense." Rex just laughed, resting his chin on the pillow, "There must be something wrong with the guy, he was pretty dumbstruck by you." Avery Calder "Yes, I noticed he was a little in awe of me. But, I can't help being beautiful," Avery sighed very dramatically, as if it were a terrible burden. "It is a curse, really... people constantly swooning at my feet, begging me to accept their declarations of love. But no!" he said, lifting his hand up and placing the back of his hand against his forehead. "It is cruel for me to lead them on. I know this! But - it is part of the game, you see. I must lead them on, for how else will I see if their intentions are true? Sure, I may break a few hearts in the process. But it's just the process of elimination. If you cannot take the heart ache, then you should not be playing the game." He shook his head sadly, as if he knew all about this (of course this, too, was just part of the little act he was putting on). "Billy, too, will learn the truth in time. But for now I must lead him on, because --" he paused, and then Avery just grinned, putting a stop to the act. "Well, because it's just pretty damn funny, really." Rex Vadnais Rex listened to Avery's dramatics with intent, holding the laughter back as long as he could. However it all flooded from his mouth not long after he finished, "HAHAHA! Oh Avery, you're such a princess. But who knows? Maybe Billy is your true love!" Rex nearly keeled over in hysterics, the thought of Avery in a fluffy pink princess dress was too much to bare.
He continued with his vision, "I can see it now! You and Billy, standing at the altar preparing to say your vows. You, in a sporty tux, lookin' mighty sharp with your bowtie. And Billy in- in- IN-! BAHAHA!" Rex's sentence was interupted by another enourmous bout of laughter. He came to eventually, wiping tesars from his eyes, "A wedding dress, the bearded bride!" Avery Calder Avery burst out laughing at the mental image of Billy in a white wedding dress. "Oh god, that's - hahaha - so funny but almost in a disturbing way," he managed to get out while he laughed at the thought. "Somehow I think he's the type that would show up piss drunk at a wedding," Avery said, still chuckling. "Ahh... well... Rex, I think I should get going... I gotta try and get a hold of a doctor or someone on the intercom so I can ask for clothes and," he grinned, "some supplies." Avery stood up and stretched, then gave Rex a hug. "I'll see you later man," he said, and then he headed off out of Rex's duplex.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which a resolution to be happy is made.
Emerwyn Emerwyn turned the doorknob and left her duplex. It seemed her mind wouldn't let her rest yet. She left barefoot, and newly cleaned. For the first time in a while, she left her long green coat beihind. It was filthy, after all, and had been heavily worn down. And Emerwyn had no desire to call the doctors for new clothes. There was a slight breeze in the air, warm and at the same time refreshing. It instilled a small light in Emerwyn. Perhaps today she'd find the answer she was looking for... The greens along the jungle floor felt wonderful under her fresh bare feet. The act of cleaning one's body often cleanses also the soul. Avery Calder Avery had just finished changing back into his newly washed clothes - yet again - and decided he would go for a walk. He had to much energy and couldn't think of any other way to burn it. Normally he'd head out to the beach, but after the incident with Zach, he decided he'd avoid that for now. He headed towards the jungle (although he would make sure not to actually go in, otherwise he was sure to get lost), when he noticed someone else walking not far from him. "Hey!" he called out, recognizing the girl. Avery had met her briefly in the cafeteria one day, but she had run out shortly after. He jogged up to her to catch up. "Hey there!" Emerwyn Emerwyn heard the voice and looked up. It was one of the young men she'd met in the cafeteria, the ones who had been shipwrecked. His hair was so long, longer than hers had ever been. She liked it. "Hello." She smiled. "How are you, Avery?" She remembered he'd seemed a little upset at their last meeting. And at no surprise. This was an evil place, an he had probably only just so recently discovered just what his fate held for him. Avery Calder "Ehh, I'm alright I guess," Avery shrugged, smiling at her. "As well as can be expected, yeah? And how are you doing?" He tried to remember her name. Was it... Emelyn? No, no - that was the hedgehog girl. "Ahh, sorry... what was your name again? I met so many people here, it's hard to remember..." Emerwyn "No, it's alright. It is a peculiar name... It's Emerwyn." "And... I suppose I'm about the same. Just looking for a little solace. Though that is in short supply these days." She returned a half-hearted smile. Avery Calder "Emerwyn - that's a nice name," he said. "Yeah... I guess it's hard to get peace and quiet around here, huh? At least that makes things a bit more interesting... it's boring enough around here, with nothing to do but laundry and go for walks." Avery sighed a bit. "So uh... can I ask what you're turning into?" Emerwyn Emerwyn smiled more broadly at Avery's whimsical view of his situation. "A deer, I believe. Of some kind. I'm still not very sure, and I have no intention of asking. Have you... found out about yourself as of yet?" Avery Calder "No... I have no idea. My friend who got here at the same time as me already changed once - a lion - but nothing's happened to me at all..." Avery shrugged. He figured it would happen eventually. "I don't have my hopes up, though, that nothing will happen... it kind of sucks not knowing when it'll happen." Emerwyn "Really? He's begun to change now? So soon..." "No, we never do know. The doctors take enjoyment out of keeping us guessing, out of torturing us. They're playing more than God, they're playing the Devil, too." Emerwyn started to walk, slowly, gesturing for him to follow. Avery Calder "Is it really soon..? I think we've been here for over three weeks now... I've kind of lost track of time. But I guess it doesn't matter here, huh?" Avery started following her obediently when she gestured for him to. "I don't know, I wouldn't want to give them that much credit. Think they'd be happy to hear that we're thinking they're playing God or the Devil... I would just call them power hungry assholes." He grinned at her. Emerwyn Emerwyn just continued to walk along the edge of the trees, the patches of sunlight catching their face and hair. It felt good. A simple warmth. She smiled back at him. If you belittle your enemy, you will feel stronger. Even though long ago, she'd learned that this was wrong and hypocritical, it felt so good right now. "Well said. Surprising that people such as they can take so much away from us." "So..." Emerwyn said. "If I'm not being too forward... what was taken from you?" Avery Calder Taken away..."My life. Everything. What haven't they taken? All I have left after washing up on shore are the clothes on my back... my parents, my friends, I - I'm not gonna see them again. So..." Avery shrugged a little, suddenly in not such a good mood anymore. "What did you lose..?" Emerwyn Emerwyn suddenly felt terrible for the words that escaped her own mouth. "No, Avery... I-I'm sorry." She stopped and turned to face him. "I'm being terribly selfish. I'm bringing my own miseries down upon you. It's not fair. It's not right. I can't ask you to forgive me, but please... understand that this isn't really me." Avery Calder "Nah - it's alright!" Avery grinned at her when she stopped and turned to face him - but it was a little forced, now. He had tears in the corners of his eyes. He tried to hold them back, though, not wanting the other girl to feel bad. Boys don't cry."There's nothing to be sorry for, nothing to forgive... you didn't do this to me. So, don't say sorry..." Avery's eyes were downcast, looking at the ground. He felt like if he looked up at Emerwyn, seeing her non-human features, the tears would spill over. Seeing changed islanders was always a harsh reality, a constant reminder that he was never going home and soon - he would be like them, too. Emerwyn "Listen," Emerwyn said, seeing through his attempts to hide his tears. She took his hand in hers. "Thank you. But, we don't need to be reminded of these things. It is sad, what has happened to us. But, I don't want what has happened to me to happen to anyone else, to you." He other hand lifted his chin gently and looked at him sincerely. "Our life here is not our own. We have lost everything we knew, but... We're still here. And we need to try our best; they haven't destroyed you yet. And I don't mean your body. And you're not the only one. Please, don't lost hope." Like I did.Avery Calder "But the longer I try to keep my hopes up, the worse it'll be when I lose hope?" Avery murmured quietly, raising his eyes to look into hers. "It's so hard... I mean, now that Rex changed, it's just like - everything is final. All I can do is try to ignore it, and not think about it." It was the only way Avery could think of to keep up his mood - ignoring the problem. Emerwyn Emerwyn sighed. "There is no way to hide from our fate. There is no way to fight it." Emerwyn could see where this was going... She was trying to convince this young man of something she didn't herself believe. But... If she didn't say the right thing, she'd be hurting someone again. "And, I cannot lie to you, Avery. I... don't believe that there is any way to fight our fate. We have lost, and I can not be more sorry that you have found yourself here. I look at you, and I see a life stolen. You are so young, and so full of life. You have so much time to love..." She dropped her hands. She had said it all. Avery Calder "Love?" Avery looked a little surprised. Love - let alone relationships - had never even crossed his mind since he got on the island. "Well... I don't plan on letting these guys get to me..." he took a deep breath. "No way. And no one else, either! From now on, I'm gonna be happy. No matter what happens." He reached out and grabbed both of her hands in his. "That means you too. You gotta smile!" Emerwyn Emerwyn was dumbstruck. But, pleasantly surprised. Her words had had the opposite effect on Avery than she had expected. For a moment, she could only look at him, her mouth opened slightly. Then, completely in spite of herself, she smiled at him. "Thank you, Avery," she whispered. Avery Calder "No need to thank me!" Avery said, and he gave her a tight hug. "We can baffle the dear doctors by being cheerful. I'm sure they won't like that one bit!" he grinned. "I can't do it alone though. You'll help me out though, right?" He was determined to stay happy, now. If he was happy, then he wouldn't bring down the others around him either. Emerwyn "I really admire you, Avery. I really do." She closed her eyes in the friendly embrace, and returned it. But now, it was time to move on. "Fare you well. I only hope that I can find in myself what keeps you so strong." Avery Calder "I'm sure you will, Emer! And if you ever need any help finding it, then you can just come to me," he offered, still smiling at her. "I'm in duplex 32. I'll see you later! I've got some things to do." Avery waved and then he headed off back towards the duplexes. Emerwyn Emerwyn smiled as he departed. What did keep Avery so strong, so optimistic? It was something she must have had, once. For it was once she who had inspired hope in others. Once, perhaps upon a dream, Emerwyn had room in her heart to hope for others when they had lost it. "Once upon a dream..."

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Chubbs and Avery discover Colche crying.
Colche Colche cried for a long moment, expecting it to startm, the horrible pain, the remembered pain, when suddenly theer was just a weight. her blue eyes opened,. ever so slowly, they rested upon the unconcious body which was squishing her. She gasped, her heart racing as she wriggled out from under him, dropping on the floor with a rather unhappy thud. She looked back up, expecting at any moment for him to grab her again, but he was gone, dead to the world.
Looking aropund in a frantic manner, she edged towards the door on ehr bottom, slowly creaping for her escape, everything else was forgotten as she dove to ehr foot paws and raced out the door, tears falling down her furry cheeks, she wanted somone, anyone to help her. She didn't even know which way she was running, but she ran only for a short time, the fright of the experience had exhausted her and she soon fell to her knees in the dust of the villiage her whole fram trembling."nono" she whispered in a chocked voice "not never" Avery Calder Avery had just been on his way to the cafeteria for a late night snack when he saw someone crouched down on the ground. As he walked closer to the girl he was able to see her more clearly, recognizing her as the cheetah girl he had seen transform in the jungle. "Hey, Colche!" he greeted cheerfully. But his smile faded when he noticed that she was crying - sobbing, and he quickly went to her side, kneeling down beside her. "Colche..? Are you alright?" Avery asked, worry clear on his face. Was she transforming again?Chubbs MacKraken Chubbs shuffeled towards the cafeteria. He had awoken with a giant appetite and was looking to kill it with a feast of food. He was still trying to get use to his feet, the claws on them were huge. His body buzzed from the painkillers he swallowed, they did help him greatly. He looked up and saw a glint of something fast take off past the duplexes, a familiar smell in the air. He couldn't quite make it out. Heading towards the cafeteria, he kept an eye out for anything. It wasn't until he got inside the building that he noticed it. It took him a minute though, he was busy looking at the menu, then hearing a sniff, he turned to look Colche, and someone by her side, a girl, ummm no wait a guy? Chubbs just blinked for a moment, taking in Colche for a moment, had it been that long? He slowly made his way over, one, because he wasn't sure how his appearance would go down with the pair of them, two he was somewhat worried he would be intruding. Colche Colche's big blue eyes fled in a panik to Avery, her mind was muddled, wa avery a girl or a boy? She couldn't remember, she panted, stareing goggle eyed at the man, she wasn't exactly sure what had happened, she had certainly escaped from the experience with only a fright, but it was a fright none the less. her tongue lolled out as she looked at the blond haired man, barely even noticing Chubbs approach she was so focused on one person.
"not good" she whispered her voice sounded strained and frightened, she trembled her body shivering as if she were freezing yet she was hot to touch, she was obviously aggitated and really didn't know what to do about it. Avery Calder Avery glanced up when he heard someone else approach them - if he had not seen other islanders before, he would have fled in fear. He was still startled at the other man's appearance, but he wasn't afraid. Right now, he was more concerned with Colche. He nodded at the other person in a brief greeting before looking at Colche again. "Hey... it's okay... whatever happened, it'll be okay," Avery said gently to her. He started to reach out to her, but he stopped, worried about frightening her. Instead, he just held his arms out for her. Better to let her make the choice. "Do you want a hug? You're safe here..." Chubbs MacKraken Chubbs could smell a hint of the smell in the air, it overided thescents of food, he knew just what the smeel was too and he wished he never knew the smell of fear. Chubbs drew a little closer, staying about two metres back and looked between the pair of them. Chubbs quickly thought about the situation and how animals that appear tall can look threatening. So with some pain he lowered himself to the floor. " I err... what happened? do ya know?" Chubbs wanted to try to help, he kind of needed it, it helped him function. On closer expection, the new person looked like a guy, just well, pretty. Based on the reaction, Chubbs figured he'd gotten a hold of the news from someone about the changes. Colche colche's tail twitched in a nervous manner, for a moment she was still, was Avery a boyu or a girl? She couldn't remember her nose twitched, she couldn't smell anything it was like the world had vanished in to a single minded tube. She almost fell in to Averys arms sobnbing quietly, her big wet tears dampening his lap "badbad..never not..never no not" she mumbled between broken breathless sobs. Her arms and body were a bit sore and no doubt what little skin she had left would be bruised when she got up in the morning. For now though, she was just glad somone was here. Aubrey would have beenbetter, or ambrose maybe..somone she had known for longer, but Avery, yes avery had helped her when she transformed. he was a good, nice person. She still trembled though obviously lost for words now as she tried to cast away the horrible experience. Avery Calder Avery hugged Colche gently when she fell into his arms, and he rubbed her back, trying to calm her. He looked up at the other man and shook his head. "No, I don't know what happened... I was just going to get a snack and I found her this way. I'm Avery, by the way," he said. He continued to hold Colche in his arms, and he looked back down at her. "It's okay Colche, no one is bad here..." He wasn't used to dealing with this kind of situation, he didn't know if he should push her into telling him what had happened, or if he should just comfort her for now and find out what happened later. "I promise, okay?" Chubbs MacKraken Chubbs nodded and sat uncomfortably, watching the pair. There was no idea what happened exactly. Could she had changed recently? could it have been that traumatic? Chubbs wasn't sure what to do, then he remembered one thing that might help, he hoped. " Look after her, i'll be back in a sec" Chubbs grunted as he got to his feet, and tried to jog towards the door and out. He did trip once and cursed under his breath as he took off. It was minutes later that he returned, finding what he was after. He thought to mention to Colche to not leave her door wide open in future as he had found the thing he was after in her room. Walking inside, he carried Mr.Kong, the gorilla plushie he gave to her. He and the plushie had promised to scare the bad things away, maybe to Colche, the symbol might help. Chubbs drew close to them and placed the plushi under Colche's arm and slowly sat down on the floor once more. He reached over to pet her as well but stopped when he looked at his claws. Colche When the toy was put in to her arms Colche pouted more. She looked at chubbs through blarely water logged eyes and started to cry more almost clambering in to Averys lap now "Billybad, hurt, hurt, hurt like before island" she mumbled, trembling still, her voice allt he mroe muffled because she burried ehr head in Averys T-shirt. She was sore and frighetned and though Billy had gotten no further than bruising her a little, it wasa stark reminder that there were stil bad men, there hadn't been before, but there were now.
Snuffling she clung to the mister kong plushie, gripping tightly to it as she sobbed ehr little heart out. The island was supposed to be safe, she never had to do that again against ehr will, she knew if he hadn't..well gone to sleep she supposed, she would have had a hard reminder of her old life in the middle of her new one. Avery Calder Avery was horrified when Colche explained what happened. It was vague, but he understood well enough. "Billy!?" He was surprised. Billy was sleazy, but Avery hadn't thought he would do something... like this. He suddenly felt sick. He hoped that Billy hadn't gone... too far with her. "No one will hurt you now, neither of us will let Billy hurt you - okay?" Avery glanced up at Chubbs, hoping he would know how to help. He felt lost and furious - he had no idea what to do, or how to make the situation better. How could they let a rapist on the island!?Chubbs MacKraken Chubbs blinked when he heard a name, what the heck? someone was trying to hurt her? Chubbs frowned deeply and stared wide eyed, this Billy was another one unknown to him, he really needed to get out more. Chubbs almost began to snarl, he was trying his best not to. Chubbs reached over to pat his , well paw on Colche's back, trying to add to the comfort. " Colche? the bad man is gone okay? I went there, Mr. Kong chased him away okay?.. now there there, shh... you have friends now, its all nice people okay?.. remember Chubbs Colche? look I got fuzzy... see?" He tried to hide his claws and to show his fur, because of Colche, Chubbs was in control at that moment. But in the back of his mind, the beast was waiting... waiting to tear the arms off of this "Billy". Colche Colche looked up at Chubbs perhaps for the first time she recognised the man. he had indeed gotten very fuzzy. "Biolly gone?" she asked, in a squeeky manner her throat obviously tight her eyes full of an unhappyness which hadn't been there for a long time.
Those gentle blue eyes rested for a long moment on Chubbs, chubbs ahd never hurt her. he was nice too and fuzzy now. The first man she had ever spoken to was fuzzy. She sniffled and snuzzled Avery one more time before crawling right in to Chubbs' lap "frightened" she whimperedcurling virtually her whole body in to his chest and lap as she dithered. What if he came back again? Was she even safe any more? "stay..wiv..mee..please" she managed once again her voice choked by sobs. she didn't want to be alone again. Avery Calder Avery let Colche go when she crawled over to Chubbs instead. He felt useless and uncomfortable, even though he wanted to help. He wanted to kick Billy's a**, but he knew that he didn't know how to fight. He suddenly hoped that he was going to turn into a fierce animal, with sharp claws and teeth. At least that way he could protect himself and the people he cared about for once, instead of letting everyone else do it for him. He decided it was better for Colche to be with someone that she was more familiar with. Too many people might make her nervous. Avery stood up and looked at Chubbs. "I'm going to be in my duplex... 32," he said. "I think it would be better right now if she's with someone she is more familiar with. But, I'll keep my door unlocked just in case... I don't know. For anything." He gave a small wave before he headed off back to his own duplex. He wasn't in the mood for a snack anymore.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Avery finally requests more clothes.
When Avery arrived back at his duplex, the first thing he decided to do was request some more clothes. He approached the intercom, remembering what Rex had told him. He pressed the zero button and waited for a reply. The intercom crackled and a voice came through the speaker. "Can I help you?" the lab assistant asked. "Oh! Er. Yes. Um... how are you?" Avery had been startled by the response; he half expected for there to be no one on the other end to take his call, knowing his luck. "Can I help you, Mr. Calder?" the lab assistant repeated her question, her voice neutral and professional. Okay then, not the friendly type. "Yeah, I was wondering... I need some stuff. I only have one set of clothes, so... could I get more sets of clothing? Preferably bright, colorful clothes... you know, like purple and rainbow stuff. Raver clothes. And maybe some sandals." He paused for a moment, hoping he wasn't asking for too much... but then he thought to hell with it, they're keeping him here and doing god knows what to him - they should give him whatever he wants. "And I need some light blue hair dye, too. Oh, and some swimming trunks... and a set of pyjamas. Also a hairbrush, and a toothbrush and toothpaste. Also, I need shampoo and conditioner... and not any of that two-in-one crap, that stuff dries out my hair. They have to be separate bottles." Avery paused then to give the lab assistant time to catch up before he continued. "And... I guess that's it for now. So, can ya do all that for me?" "We'll see what we can do, Mr. Calder," the lab assistant replied, and then the line went dead. "Uh... okay, thanks," he muttered to himself. Well, at least I'll finally be getting more clothes!

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Timothy unintentionally reveals his feelings.
Avery Calder With the happy thought that he was going to be getting some new clothes soon, Avery decided it was time to head down to the cafeteria for some breakfast. He thought that he should check up on Colche sometime soon and see how she was doing. He really hoped that she was alright... It was only when Avery got to the empty cafeteria that he realized how hungry he was. He helped himself to the food, piling a variety onto his plate before grabbing some silverware and napkins and sitting down at a table near the door. Timothy Matthews Timothy woke up in the burrow where he'd stayed even after the duplexes had reopened. He felt safer here, less chance for them to screw with him. He really was such a baby he realized. He crawled his way out, sat up, and thought. Your stinky, your smelly, and your miserable, why are you still here?He began walking to the village more out of habit than anything else. You haven't wrote a decent lyric since... Avery. You haven't even had the guts to go and find him again.Timothy's steps grew closer to his own duplex. God... I'm so patheticTimothy looked up, and realized he was standing outside his duplex door. Maybe he wasn't such a p***y after all. Timothy smiled at this and headed inside. One long shower and a change of clothes later and he was off to get breakfast that didn't involve scrounging in dirt or rocks. He walked into the cafeteria door glad that they reopened this. Avery Calder He glanced up when he heard someone else enter the cafeteria, and then he grinned when he saw who it was. "Hey, Tim!" he waved him over. "Coming to eat some breakfast? Come sit with me after you get your food." Avery was happy to see the other boy. He hadn't seen him since they parted way in the forest, and had been worrying if he had made it back safely since he hadn't seen him around the village ever since it reopened. Timothy Matthews Timothy blinked. He found himself suprised that Avery happened to be here... by himself. At the same time as he was comming here. Subconciencly, he was hoping, being so early no one would be around. But Avery was an exception. ...and Vasile. Timothy thought. "Ummm... ahhh... Hi Avery!" Timothy hurried over to get the food he wanted. "Sure! I'll... um... be right there." He loaded up on small crunchy foods like shrimp and sat down across from Avery. I could loose myself in those eyes... he thought. Avery Calder Avery smiled at the other boy when he sat down. He didn't seem nervous or surprised about Timothy's appearance anymore. In fact, he seemed to be quite used to it. "I'm glad you showed up, it's not fun eating by yourself," he commented. "So, I'm glad to see you're okay! I was wondering if you were alright. I hadn't seen you since that day we split up in the forest... I was worried something happened to you." Avery ate some of his scrambled eggs, swallowing the food in his mouth before he asked, "so how've you been doing since the power came back on? It still sucks to be stuck here, but I'm glad to finally have a real bed to sleep in and a shower now... and food," he added. Timothy Matthews "I... actually haven't used my bed yet. I've been kind of worried about returning to the village. I just don't want to get used to it and have it all happen again." Timothy turned a bit aside. "I'm just..." say something damn you. "...glad your here!" Timothy said that quickly and realized what he'd implied. Oh god"I didn't mean... I mean... I meant.... I'm not glad your trapped here. But... I'm... glad your here, because I'm here." Timothy sighed "And I'd like to be with... I mean be around you." Timothy had practically said how he felt. Although not so clearly of course, but between the stuttering and the speaking before thinking, he'd said everything that he needed to say. Avery Calder It took Avery a moment to understand what exactly Timothy meant, but when he realized it, he looked rather surprised. We only just met, and hardly know anything about each other... he thought to himself. Plus, he's kind of... well, furry. I guess I shouldn't really judge on that, though, since I'll be furry sometime too... or scaly, or whatever. Avery said nothing for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to respond to this. "Well..." Avery began. "I think it would be nice to get to know you better. We should hang out more, if you're going to stick around the duplexes," he said. "There was this girl I met that decided to not return to the duplexes, so if you're gonna do that too, you should let me know where you're staying so I know where to find you," he smiled at him. "Anyway, yeah," Avery didn't want to say anything one way or the other about how exactly he felt. He did think Timothy was cute in a shy sort of way. Avery decided he'd have to help him with that, try to get him to come out of his shell more. "So, tell me about yourself. You're a musician, right? What other kinds of things do you like to do other than music?" Timothy Matthews "High school... before I ended up here. My parents wanted me to go to college but I wanted to work on my music. I got the perfect offer, too good to be true and it was..." Timothy looked away for a moment as he said the last part. Timothy sighed. "That's really about it though, music is my hobby. With these..." Timothy shows Avery the small digging claws. "I don't have to use a pic anymore." Avery Calder "Well, that's a plus at least," Avery said, not wanting the conversation to get depressing. He hated that, and he made a resolve not to let things get him down anymore. "And you've got soft fur now - at least you don't have scales, right?" He thought fur was much better to get stuck with over scales any day. "But I mean, anything else you like to do? You know, like video games, board games, dancing, going for walks, drinking - anything." Timothy Matthews "I... like stuff like that yeah. I normally spend a lot of time walking around the island and thinking. Not really too comfortable dancing but I like games and stuff too." Timothy shurrged and smiled. He didn't quite know what to say around Avery, Avery left him a bit... without words still. Avery Calder "Aww, you're a musician and you don't feel comfortable dancing!?" Avery grinned at him. "Well, I'm gonna have to fix that. Dancing is so much fun! I mean... well, I love it, anyway." He shrugged a bit. "But I guess there isn't really much to do here on this crappy island, is there? Maybe I just haven't explored enough... but it's pretty boring." Timothy Matthews Timothy chuckled "We'll see about the dancing." "I don't know, I know this GREAT place up on the cliffs, where you can see the Ocean scretch out before you. It's great to go there and relax, and think and write." a smile scretched across Timothy's face. "I love it, you probably would too." Avery Calder "Really? You'll have to take me there sometime! I'd love to see it," Avery said. "I don't think I've been anywhere near the cliffs yet. I'd rather not wander out by myself, or I'd probably get lost again," he laughed. "I have a horrible sense of direction..." Timothy Matthews Timothy laughed "I used to not think of myself as very outdoorsy... but honestly, here it's peaceful." "The island isn't full of man-eating beasts or anything like that... yet anyway." he'd noticed some of the stuff going on with Jamal. "And I've got certain self defense measures..." Timothy did a point back to his tail. Avery Calder Avery's eyes widened a bit. "Oh, that's right... good thing you're able to control that, huh?" Then he looked curious. "Does it feel weird to do?" He couldn't imagine having that kind of... ability, or how on earth he'd control it. "I don't have anything to defend myself... maybe I'll get claws," but he thought, I don't want claws. "Or venom." I don't want venom. I don't want to be anything but human. Avery ignored his thoughts. "Then nobody would mess with me, eh?" Timothy Matthews "Probably not at all... and well I've never tried using it willingly, the first time it went off it defintly wasn't intentional. Luckily you didn't show up till a few weeks later." Timothy laughed. "I bet you'd look cute with claws atleast..." he smiled. Avery Calder "Damn, that must have sucked! I'm sorry you had to deal with that... ugh, I can't even imagine," Avery shuddered a bit. "How do you get rid of the smell, anyway? Does it just wear off after a while? Avery flushed a bit at the compliment - although he's never heard a compliment like that before. "Thank you... I think?" he laughed. "No one's ever said that to me before. I guess you gotta think up new lines on an island full of animal people, huh?" He leaned forward a bit and waggled his eyebrows at Timothy. "Hey there, baby - nice tail. Come here often?" Timothy Matthews "It faded with time and a lot of water... everything was locked up so I couldn't try that tomatoe juice thing." Timothy chuckled. Responding to Avery's crack Timothy twitched his tail. "As a matter of fact I do." Avery Calder Avery sat back and chuckled. "Well, there's no place else to eat around here," he grinned. Avery finished up the rest of his breakfast. "Well, it was nice seeing you again, Tim... hey, if you ever wanna hang out, I'm in duplex 32, okay? I should get going, I have some things to wash since I have no other clothes yet." Avery rolled his eyes as he stood up, picking up his empty plate. "I'll see you around! And don't forget, I wanna see that place on the cliffs you told me about sometime." Avery smiled at him and took care of his plate and silverware, throwing away his trash. He waved at Timothy before heading out of the cafeteria.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which there is a discussion about tattoos and piercings.
Avery Calder Avery felt that he got a lot done today, considering he really didn't have many obligations on the island. With clean laundry and new clothes on the way, he decided to go and try to find something fun to do. He remembered playing video games with Awen and Rex once, so he went in search for the entertainment room. He hadn't really looked around the last time he had been in this room, and reasonably so, since the last time he was here he had a panic attack. But this time he took his time examining all the DVDs and video games available. He hummed tunelessly to himself as he tried to figure out what to watch or play. Antoinette Devereux Antony had finally decided to return all the DVDs that she had borrowed from the entertainment room, and after eating, she did just that. With a cigarette lit between her fingers and a stack of DVDs nestled in the crook of her arm, the tattooed woman made her way through the village. She took note that Jamal was no longer in his cage before stepping into the entertainment room whilst taking a drag from her smoke. It was only then that she noticed Avery, and she frowned sadly at her smoke. "Want me to put this out?" She asked, motioning towards the cig in her hand. Avery Calder Avery looked over at Antony when she spoke up, and he glanced at her cigarette and grinned. "Nah, that's cool. It doesn't bother me," he shrugged a bit. "I used to go clubbing a lot back at home, so I've been used to it for a while." He glanced at the DVDs under her arm. "So, you got any recommendations? I'm tying to figure out what to watch to kill some time... or maybe I'll just play some video games. Wanna join me?" Antoinette Devereux "Good," she stated, striding over to put the DVDs away on the shelf before looking over at him and smiling somewhat. "I was just returning these, and I have no clue about video games... Only played them back home with my guys, but I was usually drunk or high." Shrugging her shoulders, she took another drag of her cigarette, blowing the smoke out through her nose like an angry bull. "Avery right?" The tattooed woman questioned, squinting her eyes as if she was examining him to make sure she was right. Avery Calder "Yep, that's my name," he said. "And you're Antony?" It was hard to forget a woman with tattoos like that, even if they only met once briefly before. "I'm not really a hardcore gamer either... I know a couple games, but that's about it. By the way," he added, completely changing the subject. "I really like your tattoos. I've always thought about getting one or two, but I'm a wussy." Avery chuckled a bit, grinning. "I can deal with a quick piercing, but not anything like that... it looks like yours took a long time to do." Antoinette Devereux She nodded, "That's me." Her interest was caught when he complimented her tattoos, and she grinned proudly. "I'm a tattoo artist myself," Antony mused, corners of her mouth turning upwards a little more. "The healing for tattoos is much easier in my opinion... Especially if you've ever caught a new piercing on something." Now that s**t hurt. Avery Calder Avery looked really impressed. "Really? s**t, I can't even draw stick figures on paper... that's awesome. I'm envious!" he grinned at her. "The healing part I'm not too worried about... it's the actual application of the tattoo that worries me. They just poke you with a needle over and over again... ouch," Avery winced just imagining it. "Luckily I haven't caught my piercings on anything worse than just my hair. So far." Antoinette Devereux It wasn't a surprise when he mentioned the pain of the application, and she because of her line of work, she was prepared for this question. Always. "I almost fell asleep during my back piece," she offered, shrugging her shoulders as if it wasn't a big deal, "But then again, I have a high pain tolerance. Though, the pain really just depends on the size, complexity, and location of the tattoo." However, she was a little biased. "How many piercings do you have?" She asked, raising an eyebrow as she mentally counted the visible ones. Avery Calder "Just one in each ear, my lip, and a barbell in my tongue," he stuck out his tongue to show it off. "I had planned on getting my belly button pierced too, but, well..." Avery shrugged. "I'm here now, so that's not happening. And what about you?" Antoinette Devereux "Ah, I just have the side lip, tongue, anti, and a handful of ears... But I've retired a good handful of others as well." She explained, finishing her smoke and snuffing it out on the table since there wasn't an ashtray anywhere. "Good thing about piercings, you can take them out." Avery Calder "Yeah, that is good unless your parents make you take them out," Avery rolled his eyes, remembering what had happened. "My parents were pissed when I came home with my ears pierced the first time... I had to take them out and they closed up. 'Course, when I turned 18 I just got them done again, and then some" he grinned. "They just had to deal with it then." Antoinette Devereux "Ah, my father let me get stuff done before 18, so I never had to really... Rebel..." She shrugged her shoulders, reaching up to tuck her hair back behind her ears. "******** I need a haircut," she grunted, sitting down on the couch finally. Avery Calder "I think you hair looks good," Avery plopped down on the couch next to her. "But then again I like long hair. Maybe you can request some scissors from the doctors or something if you can't find any around here... I don't know where to get any supplies though." He looked over at her sheepishly. "Sorry. I'm not much help." Antoinette Devereux "So I've noticed," she commented, sinking lower into the couch so that she was slouching and comfortable. "I like short hair, much easier to take care of I think... But I guess I'll just have to see what the staff can do about it." Avery Calder "Can't do as much with it, though... but yeah, it is easier to take care of when it's short." He pulled his legs up onto the couch, putting his arms around his knees. "So do you wanna watch a movie or something?" Antoinette Devereux "Sure, you like horror? How about the new Amnityville Horror? The one with Ryan Reynolds..." She made a sort of purring noise when she mentioned Ryan. He was one of her favorite actors to watch and to oogle, along with Johnny Depp that is. "I'm sexually frustrated and he's oh so ******** he could object, Antony stood to find that DVD, thumbing through the shelves with a look of excited concentration. Avery Calder "Ryan Reynolds?" Avery raised an eyebrow at her. "Hm, doesn't ring a bell... I'll take your word for it, though." He watched her stand up, eyes falling immediately to her tails... and he gasped. "What the ********!? Three tails!?" he blurted out loud, then slapped a hand over his mouth. "Er. I... sorry... I just... well I figured everyone here was turning into real animals... and I've never heard of anything with three tails before..." Antoinette Devereux Antony narrowed her eyes at the sudden exclamation, hands gripping the DVD case so tight her knuckles turned white. Her tails twitched, and she curled them upwards towards her lower back. "They seem real enough to me," she sneered lightly, attempting to try and keep her cool as she turned to face the blonde. "Cause you know, I didn't feel s**t when my spine split into three and then grew." Her red eyes were almost deadly, and she had to work extra hard not to be as cruel as she wanted to. Avery Calder Avery shifted on the couch uncomfortably. "I'm sorry," he muttered. "I was just... surprised." Her gaze made him nervous. Avery was almost sure that he couldn't stand up to her, even though she was a girl... she seemed like a tough woman. He stood up quickly. "Actually, I - er - I just remembered I had something to do. I mean, meeting up with someone. Maybe I can get a rain check on that movie, yeah? Uh... see you," he said, obviously nervous, and he quickly retreated out of the entertainment room. Note to self; don't talk about tails with Antony. Ever.Antoinette Devereux Antony blinked when he left stuttering in fear, watching him leave with an mixed expression of confusion and blatent anger. "Whatever," she grunted after him, giving him a sort of irritated wave of dismissal. She'd just take her hot man on DVD to watch back at her duplex if she had to. And she did just that. Stupid new islanders.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Avery is caught peeking at Playboy magazines.
Avery Calder Avery found himself bored yet again and, deciding it was safe to return to the entertainment room by now since his run in with Antony the other day, he made his way there. He walked the distance from his duplex to the entertainment room, only to find it empty. Oh well, he'd just watch something by himself. He started to browse through the selection of DVDs, when something else caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. Were those... magazines? Those kinds of magazines, out here right in the open? He glanced around as if someone might catch him, and moved over to peer at the magazine collection. He glanced at the door again, then pulled one of the playboys partway off the shelf, just enough so he could see the cover. Lauren Granger Lauren was wandering the island and found the entertainment room. She realised she had never been there before. Walking into the room, she saw a tall long haired boy dressed in pastels. And what was in his hand? Lauren looked over and saw... a PLAYBOY? She cleared her throat a big grin on her face, "Um... am I interupting anything because.. I can leave?" She smiled in his direction chuckling a bit. Avery Calder As soon as the other girl cleared her throat, Avery jumped, his whole body jerking in surprise. He quickly shoved the playboy magazine back onto the shelf, and grabbed the closest normal looking magazine he could to try and pretend he hadn't just been checking out an adult magazine (although it was a little too late for that). He turned around to face the girl, his heart beating hard in his chest. "Jesus, you scared the crap out of me," he breathed, his face red from embarrassment at getting caught. He put his hand over his chest, taking a couple deep breaths to calm down, and then he laughed nervously. "Um... I was just looking at the articles?" Avery grinned at her sheepishly. Lauren Granger Lauren could not hold her laughter in as the boy spazzed out trying to hide the magazine all too late. "Oh... I did? That was kind of aparent." She smiled at him as she pulled the magazine back out flipping through it calmly. "Articles huh? This one is nice right here." She lifted up a full two page spread of a girl who was totally naked laying on the floor seductively. This was just too fun to not play with. "Or this one..." She lifted up another girl this one had high hills on but that was it. Lauren was having too much fun messing with the poor boy. Avery Calder Of course Avery looked at each page the girl held up - how could he not? He was glad the girl wasn't embarrassed about catching him, though. "Aw, come on now, no need to tease me... I'm nineteen and male, I have to look at naked things sometimes. We have monthly quotas, don't you know?" he grinned. "My name is Avery, nice to meet you," he held out his hand. "Although I kind of wish we didn't meet like this exactly," Avery laughed. He took this time to finally really look at her - she appeared to be covered in yellow fur, had horns, and very... strange eyes. They were kind of creepy. Lauren Granger Awww... the torture didn't last long enough for Lauren, she was a little disapointed. She still smiled anyway. "Yeah, I geuss so, only monthly?" She raised an eyebrow, or what was once an eyebrow at Avery. "Hey Avery, I'm Lauren." She smiled as she shook his hand. "Yeah kind of odd to meet over playboys." She had obviously looked at every page she held up as well. "But hell, you know us girls have to look at naked things sometimes too." She put the magazine down, trying not to be preoccupied with it herself. Avery Calder "Yep, monthly - it's a really high quota, though," Avery chuckled. "So -" he hesitated a moment, then asked, "uh, d'you know what you're changing into? If you don't mind me asking, I mean. I seem to be asking a lot of people the same question as soon as I meet them..." Of course, asking the question reminded him that he forgot to ask one of the lab assistants what he was turning into when he called to ask for clothes. Damn. Lauren Granger Yeah, that question did seem to be the basis of meeting anyone on the island. Lauren was alright with answering it though, she was happy with her change at this point in time, "A Yellow mongoose with... Antelope horns added I think.." She laughed, "Freakish isn't it?" "So what are you turning into?" She asked knowing very well that he may not even know. Avery Calder "Two different animals? So there can be combinations, huh?" Well, that might be one explanation for Antony's three tails. "It doesn't look that bad, I don't think... the horns are kind of cool." Avery said. "I have no idea what I'm turning into," he shrugged. "Nothing has happened. I don't know why... my friend already transformed a little, I thought for sure I'd be changing soon after that... I guess they all happen at different times, though. It's kind of making me nervous. I just wanna get it over with," he muttered. Lauren Granger "Well, it's just the horns are antelope... I think" She had never thought as to whether or not it would affect other parts of her like her behavior. Hopefully it wouldn't. "Thanks! I asked for them" She added about the horns. "Hurt like HELL though. You DON'T want anything comming out of your skull... trust me." "You can always ask." She added about him not knowing what he was going to be. "You're friend just transformed though, did you come at the same time?" That was an odd thing, for friends to come on the island at the same time. Usually they only came one after another. "It took me a long time for my first transformation, I think it depends on the amount of time" She knew Moreau was holding off on hers because he worried about her. That did make a bit of difference on things. Avery didn't seem too excited about his change, but at least he wasn't freaking out over everything. "It'll be alright." She tried to comfort him a bit about things. Avery Calder Avery's eyes widened in surprise. "You asked for horns? Why on earth would you do that?" He couldn't understand how anyone would want to grow anything extra. "D'you think they'd tell me if I asked? I was going to when I asked for new clothes, but it slipped my mind I guess," Avery sighed. "Yeah, Rex and I washed up on the island at the same time. I mean, we didn't know each other before the island... but we're friends now, anyway." Avery couldn't respond to her when she said it would be alright. He didn't think it'd be alright at all. Lauren Granger Lauren started to get a tad defensive, "Yeah, I ASKED for horns. I thought it would look wicked sweet. Yellow mongoose are a little too cute and cuddly for my taste." She stuck her tongue out at Avery. She wanted to and she did, was that weird? Well maybe but she didn't think so. "I think they'll tell ya. Just have to ask, just like you did with the clothes." It slipped his mind too. He was a little ditzy now wasn't he? In fact he seemed a very girly too and if Lauren hadn't seen him looking at the playboys she would of pinned him down as gay. Her ears perked up when she heard the name Red, "You're friends with Rex too. He's awesome. We went swimming together the other day." They washed ashore together huh? That must be what he was talking about, maybe this was the person he was saving. "So you're the one he was saving? Well it's good that your not dead now huh?" Lauren was trying to make a point at this. Sure he was turning into an animal, but that was better than being dead at the bottom of the ocean. Avery Calder "Okay, okay... sorry, I just... I guess I just don't understand why people would want to grow anything extra," Avery replied quickly. He didn't want to offend anyone else. "Alright... well, maybe I'll ask when I get back to my duplex then." He felt nervous. He almost didn't want to know... but he guess it didn't matter if he did know or not. He'd still transform sometime. "Yeah, I'm friends with Rex," Avery smiled, relaxing a little. "He is a cool guy. And, yeah, I... I guess I'm the one he saved. If it weren't for him I'd probably be dead, so it is a good thing... I guess I've got to be thankful for that." But was it better than turning into an animal? Avery couldn't decide. Lauren Granger The mongoose girl shrugged, "Well... it was kind of a whim and he wouldn't get me a car." She smiled nervously. "Good luck on that." She replied to him, "I hope it's something cool at least. I wouldn't want to see you turned into a... slug or anything." He seemed rather nice, and if he was a friend of Rex's he had to be a decent guy. She didn't really want to see him turned into something that would upset him. "Yeah you see, there's something. Now it isn't too bad. I mean being dead... you'd be fish food at the bottom of the ocean. That would ******** suck." She gave him a hard pat on the back. Lauren decided to tell him her own onto the island story. "I was living on the streets when I saw an ad in the paper. It was free room and board and I was sick of living with those sick bastards at the building I squated in." She frowned a bit, "So I called and signed a contract and before I knew it... I was here! It's much better even if I am turning into a mongoose. I mean, it's kind of like x-men you know? We're mutants!" She smiled brightly at this thought. Lauren loved being different and unique and right here she couldn't get even more unique that what she was right now. "I have to go through tons of shampoo to keep this fur looking so good. That's kind of a pain in the a**." She posed a bit, hopeing to lighten up Avery's mood. Avery Calder "I guess so..." Avery murmured, and he avoided talking about the details of how he got here. He figured she knew enough of the details. "Kind of like Beast. Except not blue," he grinned at her. Yes, it was much easier to joke about it than dwell on the bad thoughts. "I definitely don't want to turn into a slug! Or anything scaly or fishy. It has to be something with fur. I like soft things. Maybe like... a fox! Or, uh... I don't know... something cool and with claws, like a wolf. Or a cat." Avery reached out to touch her fur, sliding his fingers over her arm. "And it's soft, too! Do you have to use different shampoo? It looks like it would be a pain in the a** to wash all the time... I have a hard enough time washing my hair." Lauren Granger "Claws huh?" Lauren laughed looking at him holding hers up, "They get in the way at times. Seems everytime I change I have to find a different way to draw. I get around still." She agreed with him on the furry part, "It's tons better though my friend Awen seems to get by being a manta. She can't be out of the water too long without getting uncomfortable. I love to swim and all but I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that." She sighed thinking of the last time she saw Awen, how she thought Awen had to sleep in her wirlpool bed instead of a regular one. She almost purred at being petted, but held it in. "Yeah.. I don't wash it everyday I think, about once every two or three days now. I used to wash it everday but it was a pain in the a**." She made a face at that, "And I have to wash it after going into the ocean. I use the same shampoo I always used... do you think I should get something different?" Even though she was turning into an animal Lauren would hate the thought of useing animal shampoo. It was just a little too far for her. "I used to have hair that long, I know how annoying that is." Avery Calder "Oh, I know Awen too!" Avery smiled. "She's cool. I didn't know she was turning into a manta though, just some type of fish. I don't think I could deal with that either, I like the freedom of just walking around - I wouldn't want to have to rely on water so much." Avery found he liked petting her fur, but he pulled his hand back. He liked petting animals, but the people here were still human and only part animal. Petting was probably considered rude. "I don't know. I mean, I know they make special shampoo for animals and stuff... I figured they did for a reason. I have no idea if there's actually a difference or anything. Maybe it helps make the fur stay cleaner longer, since you don't need to give animals baths that often?" he suggested. "I guess it could be worth looking into, yanno? That way you wouldn't need to wash it so often." Lauren Granger Lauren didn't find the petting rude at all, which was odd for her. She normally would jerk if someone she just met, a MAN especially, just touched her randomnly petting her fur. She actually kind of liked just being touched and this was rather new to her as well. She started being puzzled at her own reactions. As Avery mentioned pet shampoo Lauren frowned, "That's kind of weird... I mean that stuff is for cats and dogs." It was a little odd to use that she was still part human... even if she had wanted to change. A bit of her hadn't fully grasped the severity of the change. "But not cleaning as often would be nice I geuss. I just like keeping clean, I was on filthy on the streets all too long." It was starting to get a little late, and Lauren kind of wanted to go back to her duplex. "Well Avery, I would love to stay and talk longer but I got to go. I'll see you later alright? Maybe you, Rex, Awen and I could all chill sometime?" That would be fun like a party. The mongoose craved such interactions. Avery Calder "I guess that's true. But they do make shampoo for horses too, I remember seeing it in pet stores. I mean I guess they wouldn't make specific shampoo for all animals of course, but..." he shrugged. "I don't know, just making wild guesses here." At the mention of a party, Avery looked excited about the idea. "Yeah, that sounds great!" Avery said. "We should do that soon. I love parties," he smiled. Avery always liked spending time with people, and it would be fun to hang out together. "Let's definitely try to plan that. I'm in duplex 32 if you wanna stop by anytime. I think I'm gonna hang out here for a bit and watch a movie. It was great to meet you, Lauren." Lauren Granger Lauren grabbed the playboy on her way out, trying to be nonchallant about it. "I'll try to plan that. It shouldn't be too hard, there isn't a hell of a lot to do." She smiled, "32 alright, got that I'm in duplex ten." She gave a playful wink to Avery as she head out the door. Lauren caught herself, and the wink... was she flirting a bit or was she just being friendly? Avery was a guy and she knew that, but he did look very feminine. Lauren sighed, it had been a long day and she was just confused, that's all it was. He was pretty enough to confuse anyone. Being a seventeen year old teenage female turning mongoose was crazy on the horomones and the mind. Lauren walked carefully back to her duplex, hopeing she didn't get caught with the magazine by anyone that she didn't know.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Zach attacks Avery... again.
Zachary Bloodstone Zach sat hunched over the river with his feet submerged in the cold water. Wearing shoes had been out of the question, as he had discovered when he tried to put them on. Not only were his toes still sore and painful, but far too long to fit into his boots. Going barefoot was killing his feet. There was also the minor setback of his tail, which had complicated his attempts to get pants on. However, in the end he had found a way to comfortably wear them with his tail. The new limb in question now lay behind him on the ground and occasionally moved, though the red scales covering it prevented it from hurting quite as much as it should have every time it brushed against something sticking up in the ground. He wore a long-sleeved shirt to cover the scales on his arm. His horns were part of why his head was bent. He wasn't used to the sudden added weight of extra bone jutting out of the top of his skull.
While he was otherwise silent and frozen surveying the river, his yellow eyes followed the fish that went by. He should have gone to the cafeteria, but he hadn't, for fear of meeting another islander. The odds were much lower out here, away from the village.
Avery Calder Although Avery didn't have swimming trunks (yet!), he decided to go out for a swim anyway. He wouldn't dare go out into the ocean by himself, figuring the lake was much safer for one who didn't know how to swim very well. He grabbed a towel from the bathroom and headed out of his duplex toward the river. However, as he approached the river, he noticed he wasn't the only one who had the idea. He couldn't recognize this person from behind, though - who had horns like that? "Hey there!" Avery called out in a friendly voice as he walked closer. "Out here for a swim, too? Don't mind if I join ya, do you?" Zachary Bloodstone Zach looked up suddenly at the sound of Avery's voice. His first thought was to run, but his feet hurt way too much for him to consider it. Perhaps he could ignore the guy? No, he owed Avery an apology. That would be rude. He realized the silence had been stretching longer and longer, and there was nothing to do but speak. If he didn't want to be seen, he shouldn't have left his duplex. He'd made the mistake.
After letting out a sigh, he pulled his clawed feet out of the water and turned around. His neck still bothered him, even though the transformation was over. He scratched it, unwittingly revealing the reddish scales identical in color and texture to the ones on his now twitching tail. "Oh, I wasn't swimming. Go ahead, though."
Avery Calder Avery stopped in his tracks, startled when he saw who it was sitting by the lake. He would have only been nervous around the other man had he night had horns sticking out of his head - as it was, Avery was a little freaked out by Zach's appearance. "Z-Zach? You... uh," Avery trailed off, not knowing what to say. Obviously, the other man had changed. Although he couldn't recognize into what, exactly. "Um... nice horns." Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what he wants to hear right now, idiot, he thought. Zachary Bloodstone Zach stared sadly back at Avery. It was the first time for him that things were reversed. Instead of being the human who came upon a changed islander... he was a changed islander. He looked away quickly, feeling ashamed.
He winced a little at the horn comment. In his opinion, they were awful, nothing but a nuisance. He tried to steer the subject away from his appearance, all the while his tail starting to curl anxiously. "Duvert's fault, all of it. He's crazy." It was difficult to hide the huge teeth he'd grown, and while he spoke the canines were obvious. "Anyway, Avery, I'm really sorry about what happened at the bar..."
Avery Calder "Duvert?" Avery had no idea who that was... but he could make a lucky guess it was one of the doctors. "Oh... the bar... right," he said. Well, at least he was apologizing... maybe he wasn't a bad guy after all. Rex said he was nice. "It's alright, don't worry about it," Avery shrugged. He wasn't about to apologize for leaving him there on the beach, though. "Mistakes happen when you're drunk, huh?" he grinned, trying to make light of the subject. Zachary Bloodstone Zach narrowed his eyes. "Sabin Duvert. I guess it's lucky that you haven't met him. He's one of the 'doctors' here..." He made sure to add some sarcasm to the name of the profession.
He tried to push some loose hair out of his face, but his claws hit one of his horns. It was still sore, straight down to his skull. "Oh, yeah. Alcohol can mess you up pretty badly. I'm not going to drink again."
He was tempted to look back at the fish in the river, but fought the urge to. He was still confused over the instincts that had come over him, nearly as drastic as the extent of changes he'd gone through. They weren't just a little taste for raw meat.
Avery Calder Avery moved closer to him so he could peer at Zach's new horns and scales. "So when did you change? I only met one other person who had horns too - Lauren - she said it hurt like a b***h when they grew in... hers were smaller, though... did yours hurt to grow?" Avery was really hoping he wouldn't grow horns, too. He had the urge to reach up and poke the horns, but he didn't think Zach would appreciate that very much, so he resisted. Zachary Bloodstone Zach felt like some kind of show dog under Avery's gaze. He knew he looked bizarre, but this amount of interest was making him distraught. So... so he was trapped on the island for good now. He wasn't human any longer. According to the red scales and Duvert, he wasn't even going to be a mammal any longer.
He got to his feet, though it still gave him some pain to stand with his odd-looking toes. "Changed? L-last night..."
The mention of Lauren aggrivated him a little bit, but he said nothing about it. He was glad to hear she was growing horns as well, at least they had hurt her. It didn't sound like it had been that unpleasant for her, though, especially since hers were apparently small. Growing his own horns had been so painful he'd almost fainted from the experience. He could see Avery staring at them, but there was no way he could just hide them from view. He endured it with a growing frustration. "Did they hurt? Did they hurt? Avery, they came right out of my skull!"
Avery Calder Avery's eyes widened a bit. "Oh, well... yeah, that's a good point." Obviously, the horns were a touchy subject. Avery couldn't help being curious though, it would at least help prepare himself for whenever he changed, so he'd know what to expect. "Well, your eyes cool really cool now!" he said, trying to reassure him about the change. "And at least you've got... red scales instead of green..?" Okay, so maybe that part wasn't so much a help... "Did it feel weird when the scales grew in? What kind of animal has red scales?" he wondered out loud. While he was able to resist poking Zach's horns, he couldn't hold back reaching out to touch the scales on Zach's arm, wondering what they felt like. Zachary Bloodstone Everything Avery mentioned had the opposite effect. Zach deliberately closed his eyes. His horrible, yellow eyes. He didn't want any of this. He wanted to be human, to be normal again. His tail stayed curled behind him, safely out of Avery's view. "I'm a monster..."
Zach was about to boy's next question when he was prodded painfully in the arm, right against his new and tender scales. His eyes flashed open again, both annoyed and a little faraway. He'd been waiting for something, hadn't he? Out here, by the river... Before he could figure out what he was doing, he leaned toward Avery quickly and snapped at his face, his sharp teeth clicking together inches away.
Avery Calder "Hey, come on now, you're not a monster," Avery started to protest. He hadn't meant to make Zach feel that way, and he felt guilty. Maybe he should just change the subject altogether. Everyone else here was turning into an animal, so Zach was no different than them. But before Avery could open his mouth speak again, Zach had leaned toward him and snapped his sharp teeth at him, barely missing his face. Avery yelped and stumbled back in surprise, eyes wide in shock. He tripped backwards over a rock and fell right on his a**, looking up at the horned man with a look mixed with fear and shock. "Zach!?" This time, he was ready to bolt if Zach tried to attack him again. Zachary Bloodstone Zach blinked at the empty air in front of him. He'd missed. Looking down, he saw Avery, who was now on the ground (thankfully, not bitten) and gasped. He was confused. This whole 'dragon' thing... he had a sinking suspicion that there was a lot that Sabin hadn't mentioned to him. "Are... are you okay?"
He speedily closed his mouth and put a hand over it, ignoring the claws as they scratched his face. Fearfully, he took a couple of steps backward. He needed to distance himself from the other guy. His tail thrashed to both sides in midair. I just tried to attack Avery... again. What's wrong with me?
Avery Calder "No I'm not okay!" Avery shouted at him. "You just tried to bite me!" Sure, the first time Avery was able to forgive, since Zach had been drunk... but what kind of excuse would he have for nearly biting his face!? Avery slowly got to his feet, keeping a weary eye on Zach as he stood and keeping his distance. "Jesus, what the hell was that for?" Zachary Bloodstone "I did?" Zach's eyes grew wider still as Avery confirmed what he'd done. He couldn't explain why without sounding insane. Avery had touched his arm, he'd felt a need to bite the guy, and all of a sudden he'd just lashed out. He grimaced, taking his hand off his mouth to catch his moving tail, which seemed to move according to its own rules.
Nervousness seeped into his voice."I don't know... it just sort of... happened..."
Avery Calder "Yeah, well..." Avery paused - what was he supposed to say to that? "Look, I'm just gonna... leave you alone for now, then. So you can relax. I"m heading back to the duplexes..." Avery believed Zach, but he still felt nervous around him right now. Maybe because it was so fresh after the change, it was affecting Zach's behaviour... or something. Avery didn't know, but he wasn't going to stick around to find out. "I'll see you around, Zach," he said, backing up a little, before he turned around and went quickly back to the duplexes. Zachary Bloodstone Zach watched Avery leave without any remorse. It was better for Avery to be back in the village, or at least away from here. Zach had little idea what he'd been trying to do when he'd bitten at the kid, and until he did know, he wanted to encounter as few islanders as he could.
After ten minutes of heavy thinking while standing on his recently changed feet, he could feel them aching, and returned to soaking them in the river. He hoped they'd stop being in so much pain. There weren't any shoes he knew of that could fit his long toes.
This random attacking thing was another reason why he'd just have to keep to himself on the island... forever...
To Zach, it wasn't a bad idea.

So many people have been changing recently that Avery met as human... Rex... Zach... people that Avery got to know as humans like himself. He knew that the time was looming for him, almost like a clock ticking in his ear, counting away the days that he had left to be the person.. the human he was born as. That night, it seems to culminate. Avery could almost swear he had an angry, itchy spot on his arm as he went to bed to meet with turbulent dreams. It begins, as it usually does, with the itch. More than just the prickling annoyance, but a mad hot itch that bits into your skin: on your neck, down your stomach, on your arms and legs, down your back and even on your ears. As you scratch at it, your nails almost seem to grow to better meet the challenge, lengthening and darkening, rounding before your eyes. But the itch only seems encouraged as soft, tawny fur begins to grow. Your spine hurts, your ears hurt as both in unisin begin to lengthen - the tailbone hurting worse than even the beating you received on the ship - but instead of objects hitting you, coming from the outside - something you could seek refuge from even if it meant over the side of this ship, this pain comes from within, trying to break free of you. A thin, furry tail waves slowly in the air, sore and strange. Your ears grow long and flat... and right as the growth stops - leaving you for a moment with long, erect ears before they flop over in an almost comical manner if it weren't for the fact that the change is more like something out of a nightmare. Your eyes are already stinging from the pain, welling tears, but a harsher sting hits your left eye, as the blue is covered by a chocolate brown, and your nose itches, then burns, and then the very tip moistens and darkens (though doesn't push out at all), leaving you with a marginally enhanced sense of smell, although your sinuses have not expanded in any fashion yet.

R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Avery reaches 25% and Timothy comforts him... and more. The cool breeze felt good on Avery's face, and he took a deep breath, inhaling the salty sea air. Being on a cruise wasn't so bad, even if you were with your parents. At least they didn't make him stay with them the whole time, worried their little boy might fall over the edge of the ship. Whatever, he wasn't that clumsy... and he was 19! He was old enough to go out by himself. Of course, they didn't know that he was out right now, wandering alone around the boat close to midnight. He couldn't sleep with the ship constantly rocking slowly back and forth, back and forth... Avery preferred his beds to stay still , thank you very much.
As Avery peered over the edge of the ship, he heard footsteps getting closer behind him. He turned around, seeing three men approaching him. They didn't seem to be workers on the cruise liner; they weren't in uniform, just wearing regular clothes. Avery didn't recognize them. They seemed to recognize Avery, though, as one of them spoke up, "what do you think you're doing on this ship?"
What kind of question was that? "Um... walking?" Avery offered, not sure what these men wanted from him. They certainly didn't seem very friendly, though. Apparently, this wasn't the answer the men were looking for. They advanced on Avery all at once, grabbing his arms - one of the men held both of Avery's arms behind his back, restricting him so he could not run away. Avery struggled anyway, afraid, until a hard punch to his stomach knocked the air out of him. He bent over involuntarily, gasping in pain and for air. "We don't like your sort," the man who punched him growled. Avery had no idea what he was talking about until the man holding his arms clarified, "we saw you, flirting with that other man earlier. Disgusting. Filthy ." Oh.
It clicked in Avery's mind now - these men thought he was gay (and they were half right, anyway), and they didn't like that one bit. He has dealt with homophobes before, but they'd never tried to physically hurt him. They just called him names and made fun of him. Avery had read news stories, of course, about how violent some of them can be. He just never thought it would happen to him . And now, here he was, alone in the middle of the night on a cruise liner, about to get his a** kicked for being something he couldn't control. Avery was quickly pulled out of his thoughts when one of the men grabbed his long hair, pulling it sharply and lifting Avery's head up. "What the ******** is this, long hair? Real men don't have long hair, ******** f*****t. Why don't we just cut this off for you, freak ?" Avery's eyes widened in fear when he saw the other man pull out a pocket knife, flicking out the blade. The other man gathered up Avery's hair, his friends laughing as they watched him lift the sharp blade to his hair.
Their laughter was cut short when someone shouted, "hey, what's going on!? Leave him alone!" As soon as the man let go of Avery's hair, he turned his head to see who his rescuer was. Partially transformed Rex stood a short distance away, claws out and tail swaying behind him. The other men didn't seem to take notice of the transformation at all, however. Rex snarled as the men lunged at him, and he was easily able to fight them off. Avery backed away from the fight, unable to help and afraid of getting hurt again - unfortunately, he wasn't looking where he was going, and he slipped on the slick floor, falling over the edge of the ship. He managed to grab onto the side before falling into the water, though, and held on as tightly as he could.
"Rex!" Avery shouted, hoping the lion man had been able to scare the other men off by now. "Rex, please help me!" Sure enough, Rex peered over the side of the ship, smiling when he saw Avery holding on for dear life. The men seemed to have run off when Avery fell over the edge, not wanting to get blamed for someone falling over board. "Give me your hand," Rex encouraged, reaching down for Avery's hands.
"I - I can't," Avery said fearfully. "If I let go, I'm going to fall." Rex bent down further, grabbing Avery's wrists, one in each hand - and digging his claws into the soft flesh, blood welling up from the wounds and sliding down Avery's arms. Avery cried out from the pain, looking up at Rex with wide, tear filled eyes. "Rex!?" Why was the lion man doing this!? Weren't they friends!? But Rex just grinned down at Avery, flashing his sharp fangs at the helpless boy. "Look at me, Avery... look what you did!" Rex snarled. "I ended up on the island because you can't fight for yourself! It's all your fault I'm turning into a monster ! But not this time... I'm not saving you this time, you freak!" With that, Rex laughed - Avery thought it was the cruelest laugh he has ever heard - and Rex pushed Avery's hands off the side of the ship, sending him falling down towards the icy cold ocean.Avery woke up gasping, tears stinging his eyes at the memories the nightmare brought back to him. He didn't have long to dwell on the nightmare version of the cruise liner incident, however, when he felt the maddening itch start. He scratched at his stomach, then his arms, trying to stop the itching but it just wouldn't go away. He winced at the first sharp scrape of nail on his arm, a long thin welt raising up on his skin. He glanced down at his arm, only to cry out in horror when he noticed the changing of his nails. He struggled out of bed in fear, his feet tangling in the sheets only to cause him to fall flat onto his face on the floor. Avery whimpered when he felt his nails grow more, becoming rounder and pushing at the skin on the tips of his fingers. He put his hands over the fur growing on his arms, as if somehow that would push the fur back in, as if it would stop it from growing. But it didn't stop, nothing Avery could do would stop the fur growing down his arms, his legs and stomach - and on his ears too. But Avery felt, much to his horror and intense pain, his ears weren't only growing fur - they were growing in length too, flattening out painfully before finally flopping over. He reached up to grip his ears, but quickly let go as they were still too sore to touch. They felt much softer now, more delicate and flimsy than his human ears. The pain didn't stop there, he could feel it shooting down his spine and pooling at his growing tailbone, and he screamed at the intensity of it all. It was overwhelming him, and he wasn't sure how much he could take. He was transforming, just like the others, just like Rex and Zach and now it was his turn. But when would it end!? When would the pain stop!? Avery shuddered and reached back, shoving down the striped pyjama pants he was wearing down to his knees as his new tail pushed at the soft cloth uncomfortably. The tail immediately tried to tuck between his legs, the movement causing even more pain in Avery's body. Even as his tail stopped growing, a new sharp pain stung his left eye and he lifted a hand, slapping it over his eye as if to stop the pain. Of course, that didn't do anything but make his palm wet from the tears streaming down his face, sobbing from the pain still racking through his body. His nose began to itch and burn, and for a moment Avery feared he was growing fur there too - but it didn't hurt in the way his arms and legs had, and it almost felt like it was getting a little wet. Perhaps it was just from his tears? He couldn't bring himself to even think about looking in a mirror. He didn't want to know, didn't want to see. Then, finally, it was over. Avery lay on the floor sobbing, curled up and twitching from the throbbing pain, tears still falling down his face onto the carpeted floor. Watching silently from his bed lay the small plush dog Awen had gifted him with, as if it were mocking him, staring down with it's brown beady eyes - although Avery hadn't made the connection of what he was turning into. I really am a freak. The whimper that escaped his throat didn't sound quite human anymore.

Timothy made his way through the village, he'd woken up, showered, and gone down to get food. The food had seemed fresher than usual and they were still putting out some of it.
Still, he didn't feel like he was doing too bad at all, which had been a problem for him. Timothy hadn't even worked on a song in weeks. Even the Amaya/Hargun thing hadn't gotten him down, after all, as selfish as it was, he felt like he didn't have it as bad as them.
Maybe a song about being selfish... no no... Timothy worked best depressed.
He walked up to Avery's place, as he was about to knock he heard... whimpering inside? He shouted out "Avery! Are you okay in there?"

Avery wasn't sure how long he had been laying there on the floor, but he knew that he was still hurting. Then he heard someone shout out his name from the other side of the door. Who... no, Avery didn't want anyone to see him... not like this.
But then, didn't everyone else look like him, too? They wouldn't judge him... right? Avery slowly pushed himself up into a standing position, wincing a bit as his tail moved. He looked down at himself - well, he certainly couldn't answer the door with his pants down around his knees. He tugged his pants up, being careful so as to not irritate his new tail.
"I... yeah... hold on a second," Avery said. He wiped his eyes, hoping to at least not look like he had been crying. Then he took a deep breath, walked to the door and opened it, hoping to see Rex...
... but it was Timothy. Still, he was glad to see someone - and he winced a little when his tail wagged of it's own accord. "Tim," Avery whimpered. He didn't know what else to say... he figured his change was obvious.

"Oh man Avery!" Timothy spurted out then realized what he'd said. "I mean... uhhh... I'm sorry."
"I mean... atleast... your still hot though." Timothy tried to grin as he mulled over this. It wasn't that he found Avery in anyway less attractive. He'd gotten more used to having fur himself, he kind of liked it actually.
It was just Timothy didn't always know what to say in difficult social situations, and this was defintly one of those.
