"Spanish for love," he corrected, patting Eclair on the head gently. "You eat it." Since she looked at a loss of what to do with the piece of cake in her paws, he held up his piece of cake still in the container and cut off a piece with his fork before putting it into his mouth. Mmm, he loved his mom's cake...
"Gourmet foods slathered with ketchup, hm?" That was odd. He didn't realize pokemon could love human food.. Well, he did know, since Leilani absolutely adored having cake, so he supposed it really wasn't all that different than ketchup.. But still, why would a pokemon be obsessed with ketchup of all things? "That's.. muy interesante," he commented offhandedly, directing another piece of cake into his mouth. Mmm, cake... Speaking thinking of, he turned curious green eyes onto his human company. "What do you think?" He asked, indicating the cake with his fork.

Spanish, she could have guessed as much... Aila watched as Eclair glanced between the human and the cake, as if in hesitation. She opened her small mouth and pulled off a bite of the sweet, the spongy pastry separating with ease. The electric-type enjoyed the taste slowly and with an immense intrigue.
"It's an odd habit," Aila admitted, abashed for the part of both the trainer and the pokemon. "She must have picked it up before I met her somehow..." She placed her attention on the gesture of the fork as it was directed at... the cake in her lap, yet untouched. Oops. "Ah, yes..." Quickly, though hopefully not with a speed that would offer offense, she separated a small portion with a graceful motion of her wrist and brought it to her lips. It was sweet, though not overpoweringly so, and the cake itself was moist. "It's quite good," she evaluated with an approving nod. "I wonder if I could make something like this..." Her previous experiences with cooking were limited to simple, inexpensive dishes of a primarily instant variety, and while she had a basic knowledge of baking, she had never properly practiced it.

"Ah? Where did you meet her?" He asked curiously after another bite of his cake. Don't chew with your mouth full, it's rude, his mother would always tell him. It was a hard habit to break - mostly because he didn't put forth much effort, if any at all, with which to break it - but for some reason, being in Aila's company made him want to behave a lot better than he normally did. At least with table food manners.
At her musings of if she could make cake or not, he couldn't help but chuckle. "Probably, if your cooking skills are any better than mine. I can't cook to save my life." He'd actually just endanger himself more by attempting to cook, like the time he'd set the oven on fire, or when something he'd put in the microwave exploded, or... anyway. "The only thing I'm allowed to make are sandwiches," he admitted with a chuckle. Which wasn't a bad thing, really. It meant he didn't have to help out with the cooking.
He peered down at Eclair, gently touching one of her pointed ears to get her attention. "D'you like it?" Cake probably wasn't the best thing to give a baby pokemon right after it hatched, but that thought didn't cross his mind.

"In Camphoreon, after... Well, when I was younger." A partial shrug dismissed the initial sequence of thought that she had cut off. "Someone left her out on the street in the middle of summer. I pitied her, and apparently that earned me her gratitude or respect or something of that nature. She followed me around for a few weeks before I gave in and bought a pokeball for her."
Despite the immobility of her left hand, her motions remained graceful without a single wasted movement. What was a little paralysis in the face of her pedigree and upbringing? She would remain perfectly dignified... unless required to cook. "I'm not much better," she admitted with a smile that could almost be called sheepish. "I'm decent at following instructions, but my experiences are generally limited to boiling water or pressing buttons on a microwave." She'd never really had the time to spare on meaningless luxuries like cakes or extravagant meals. Time spent in a kitchen was time spent away from books, away from research, and away from thieving. Well, not that any of that mattered now. A reliable paycheck allowed her that much more time to study new skills.
The Pichu started slightly; she had been concentrating on the flavor of the small treat, and the sudden contact was unexpected. Nonetheless, she returned the question with a bright smile and an enthusiastic "cha!"

He noted the re-direction of her answer, though dismissed it as the initial reply might've been in reference to an event of which he'd have no knowledge and therefore wouldn't be a very good answer at all. That made sense to him, so he didn't bother to question it. "Aww, poor thing," he commented, green eyes flitting to the Venusaur in question for a moment before looking back at his company. "I got Leilani when I was 10, to start one of those pokemon journeys with. Except my mom wouldn't hear about it," he finished with a chuckle.
"That's more than I can do," was his quick albeit sheepish reply to the subject of cooking experiences. "I uh.. I might have made something explode in our microwave once, so.." Here he trailed off, his typical lop-sided grin retaining a bit of that sheepishness still. He hadn't meant to make it explode, it just... happened.
Well Eclair was enjoying it too, so that was good. He still wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not, but oh well, too late now. Since he was finished with his cake he closed off the utensil container and slid it into his bag, while the other remained out for the time being. Aila was, after all, using the lid as a plate still.

In the brief period of conversation to follow, Aila would finish the cake she had offered and return the lid to Inigo for him to pack away along with the container. The evening bled into night, and so the pair made short work of extinguishing the fire and preparing the camp for the night, Aila wordlessly relying on Inigo's assistance with tasks that she was conspicuously incapable of completing with her arm in its current state.
Within the hour, the site was in order for the night, and Aila returned her pokemon to their pokeballs, leaving Charmant at her side out of a habitual caution. With a word of goodnight and a thanks for his assistance that afternoon and evening, she retreated into the tent's space.

It didn't take long to pack everything away, and Inigo offered the rose-eyed girl a "buenas noches" before she disappeared into her tent. He received no invitation, which was both perfectly fine with him and he didn't expect one anyway, so he quickly rolled out his sleeping bag and laid down in it. Leilani, as per usual when they slept out in the woods, took up her spot right at the head of the sleeping bag for her trainer to use as a pillow while her neck curved around to lay her head on his stomach. "Buenas noches, mi Leilani," he yawned as he draped an arm over the back of her neck. It didn't take long at all for the pair to fall asleep.
Several hours later, with only the light provided by the moon illuminating the small camp, from inside the tent one might hear muffled rustling noises intermittent every so often with soft, concerned "niuuuu"'s. It wasn't long before the noises culminated in a strangled gasp.

Aila was a light sleeper, and so she was already awake when Charmant nudged her in an attempt to rouse the human. The gasp for breath firmly seized her attention, and she parted the sheets closing off the tent and quickly removed herself, a cursory glance finding the nearby Inigo no longer lying in his bag. He was instead sitting upright, inclined slightly forward and, judging from the strangled sounds and vague shuddering, struggling to breathe. A calm professionalism quickly quenched a rising panic, and a few swift strides brought the small girl to his side where she crouched and set a steadying hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong? Can you breathe?" Her tone betrayed only the slightest sliver of the mounting concern she felt; reacting to panic with more panic would be nothing but detrimental to the situation.

Leilani gently nudged her trainer's other shoulder, offering another concerned "niuuu." Her lack of distress and panic might hint that this had occurred before.
Inigo had been staring fixedly at the end of his sleeping bag, unaware of the fact his hands each held a fistful of it in front of him. At the sudden hand on his shoulder, his head jerked up and green eyes focused on her rosy ones. His expression looked distressed and confused, with no trace of recognition on his features. "Quién demonios eres?" He asked suddenly and quickly, his accent much more pronounced than before. "Lo que está pasando? Dónde estamos?" His tone indicated his level of distress coupled with what could have been a hint of fear. Leilani suddenly nudged his shoulder again with more force than before, and Inigo nearly fell over next to Aila.
"Niuuu," she cooed, watching him with her large gold eyes, and Inigo simply stared back.
"Qué--"
"Niuu."
His face betrayed his confusion as he continued to watch her for some moments, obviously trying to figure things out. "Wh... ..ah." All at once his expression cleared and he raised a hand to his face, rubbing at his eyes and part of his forehead, and the large Meganium seemed pleased with this reaction.

Aila listened with an increasingly worried expression. She didn't understand a word he was saying. She didn't know why he was suddenly speaking in a foreign language, but what if he was saying he wasn't okay and he couldn't breathe? A more rational thought process would have concluded that if he was capable of speech, he could clearly breathe just fine, but Aila found herself dancing around a distinct fear that someone was going to die if she couldn't figure out what was going on.
When the confusion fell from Inigo's face, the distress fell from Aila's own, and she sat back with a breath that she didn't know she had been holding while Leilani was interacting with her trainer. Thank Arceus for Leilani; the Meganium seemed to know exactly what had happened and how to fix it. But Aila did not possess a similar knowledge, and because of this, a noticeable worry clung to her features. "Are you all right?"

The Meganium did indeed know exactly what was going on - or at least, what to do in such situations and when they usually occurred, even if she didn't know the cause - so she relaxed and watched the pair contentedly.
Inigo had said none of these things that Aila was so worried about, though he didn't reply for a few more moments, preferring to try and calm himself first. The worry in her voice - coupled with the fact he'd only met her earlier that day - made him feel guilty about the whole thing. It wasn't his fault.. Well, not really, how could he have known this would happen? But maybe he should've expected it, he never camped this close to the lake. "Um," the hand rubbed at his face before dropping down next to his other, which he just noticed was still clinging fiercely to the sleeping bag. He released it and lifted the hand slightly, noticing the subtle shaking before he quickly put it back down, preferring to ignore it rather than acknowledge the fact he was still exceedingly nervous and his heart had yet to return to normal. "It's.. uh, it's nothing. I'm fine," he replied quickly, reaching up with his other hand to rub at the back of his neck and averting his gaze before he added in a quieter tone, as if a little ashamed to admit it, "just nightmares."

"Don't you dare say it's nothing!" she countered, inexplicably angered by the blatant dodge. The memory of watching her young niece die in her brother's arms burned in mind, and the thought that she would have been left to sit there and do nothing while another innocent died in front of her brought an intermittent tremble to her shoulders. When she realized the volume of her voice, however, she breathed out a sigh and lowered her gaze. "I'm sorry. It's none of my business."

Aila's sudden outburst made him flinch and stare at her similar to how a child would while being disciplined for something they didn't understand. "Lo siento," he said reflexively, even though he wasn't really sure why she was so upset or what he did. "I didn't.. um, it's not.. well," he was muttering, not really sure what to say. He had no desire nor intention to tell her the more intricate details regarding his nightmare or why it woke him up in such a fashion, so he was at a loss of what to really say. "It was.. just a nightmare, it's not really.." Not really anything, or in other words, nothing. He peered up at her after this vague attempt at defending himself, still confused and whether it was noticeable or not, he was still suffering from the effects of the nightmare.

"I'm sorry," she repeated, her gaze lingering elsewhere out of sheer shame to have reacted so horribly. "You don't have to explain. I just was... I was worried. I'm sorry." She was still worried, really, but not so much as to force him to say something he was uncomfortable saying.

The concept of yelling at the person you were worried about was definitely a foreign one to Inigo, especially as she apologized for being so upset. "No no, it's okay," he said in an attempt to reassure her, though he was uncertain who should be more worried about who at this point. "It's.. just nightmares, I get them sometimes... They're nothing to be worried about." Well, nothing for her to worry about. He'd need to make a mental note to never camp this close to the lake again...
