.....what.
Luke was giving her a hug. Luke. Mr. Emotionless Lump. Mr. Social Graces of a Rock.
...what.
Despite her mind wanting to break she reached up and wrapped her arms around him firmly, hugging him back. Luke. She was hugging Luke.
What.
"You're welcome," she murmured quietly into his shoulder, brows knitted and a sad expression on her face.

He removed himself from her, maintaining his gaze on anything but Claire's face and turning slightly in the direction of his room. Having already said his farewell, there was little left but to depart.

For Luke, there wasn't anything left to do - but for Claire, who wasn't at all satisfied by this good-bye and whose mind had recovered from almost breaking, frowned slightly. No, it was much too sad, and there was more she could do, more she could say - no, she wouldn't let it end like this.
So with no warning, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his shoulders in another hug. "Do you remember when we spoke in the gym before?" She asked, her tone gentle. "When you said you liked to think you were human sometimes?" The wording had been different, of course, but she couldn't quite remember it anymore, but she continued after a thoughtful pause. "Well, I think you're more human than you realize." It was true, too - tonight was the most emotional she'd ever seen him, to the point where he actually hugged her. Mr. Emotionless Lump, giving hugs. "I'm sorry you have to go."
A sudden thought crossed her mind then, an idea - a mischievous idea. Should she? She would. So, again with no warning, she leaned up and planted an innocent kiss on his cheek. There was a perfectly good reason for it too, if he decided to ask.

He found his progress suddenly obstructed by Claire's arms, listening as she suddenly spoke. He moved to speak, but no words formed. He remembered it. And the gratitude that swelled within him - validating her words that he was indeed at his most emotional - nearly overpowered him. That he could be remembered as human, as a real living being and not merely as a hidden facet of a psychotic mind, was more than he would have ever hoped for in the past. He breathed out a shuddering breath and prepared a response only to have all mental process derailed, set ablaze, and scattered to the wind. He broke free and took a couple of stumbling steps backwards, face and ears nearly immediately scarlet. "Wha--" Words could not begin to identify just how shocked he was, though his expression could at least begin to describe it.

Her head was carefully angled so she would be able to at least see his reactions to her words while she spoke. So when he was suddenly a few steps away from her, his face and his ears too completely red, she couldn't help the grin that spread across her face. Oh, yes, it was totally worth it. She forced the grin to fade to a smile as she leaned against her bedroom door. "What?" She asked, her tone a little too innocent though the smile remained. "And, I told you. You're more human than you realize."

His pure shock melted into something of an indignant 'humph' which, in turn, faded to a smile that pulled into a grin. Before he was properly aware of it himself, he was laughing - quietly and restrainedly, but laughing nonetheless. "Right," he said, traces of his laughter remaining on his lips. "Well," a vague remorse rippled across his features, "I'll see you around." He took a few backpedaling steps, keeping his eyes on her for a while longer in this way, before he turned and started down the corridor.

She was completely unperturbed by the indignant response, and his more positive reactions made her laugh as well. Saying 'good-bye' was much too depressing, and she'd just made him smile - Arceus he even laughed oh man what - so she wasn't about to kill it. "See you later," she replied with a smile, which turned to a confused-yet-amused grin as he walked backwards a few feet and made her chuckle. Once he was further down the hall she sighed quietly before opening the door without facing it, and backed inside. Arceus, she was tired... Satisfied, but tired.
