Ooh, so that's what grounding meant.

Yuck.

Taking Deimos's hand obligingly, she clasped it in hers and allowed the smile to turn wicked.

"I promise I won't let you fall overboard this time," she said easily. That whole experience still terrified her in how close Dei had seemingly come to death - and it wasn't one she was keen to repeat.

"Course not.. I'll eb steering.." He said jokingly winking at her as he walked up to the ship, his hand upon hers as he summoned the wind to lower the ganplank. It came, thumping in front of them and Deimos smiled at the smeel of wood that the Dawn had always upon her. "You ready to man the winds, Len?" He asked, climbing up the plank.

Laughing, Len curtsied and willed a wind below her as she made a running jump for the gangplank. The wind caught her and pushed her up and over onto the deck, and she landed with hard-learned grace. Turning 'round to grin again at Deimos, she nodded hard.

"Ready when you are!" she chirped. She'd been practicing Air magic so hard and for so long without anyone helping her, she felt she had to prove her skills to someone. Who better to impress than Deimos?

Deimos watched in a state of awe. She was so graceful with the air, unlike himself. He had to force himself to stop starting and move to the wheel, grasping it, relishing in the feeling of wood beneath his fingers. Flicking his fingers, the wind tugged the rope free, a simpel skill he'd taught himself in order to man the ship on his own.

"Choose our destination!" He said, letting her choose where the wind would elad them.

Thinking hard for a moment, Lenore gazed out over the lake. Where to go, where to go...

Ah ha.

"To the island, then!" she said, pointing out to the middle of the lake. A little island covered with trees loomed out in the distance. Bracing her feet on deck, Lenore hunched over and raised her arms slowly, hands splayed out. Her face took on an expression of almost pained concentration, teeth gritted.

Winds, subtle at first, blew across the lake and bellied out the sails. Opening one eye, she nodded at Deimos.

"Ready, sir!"

Deimos felt the wind whip his cloak and he smilled, feeling the rush as he began to the steer the ship towards the island she had pointed out to him. He was smiling, looking almost serene as he perched himself at the helm. He felt like he was home again.

"You have gotten much better Lenore." He commented, impressed at her control.

Lenore blushed dark gray at Deimos' compliment, eyes glowing. She decided not to mention her strength was already beginning to flag - all she had to do was get them to the island, then she could rest up for a few moments.

"Thanks, Dei," she murmured, returning her attention to the winds as they began to die down. Eyes closed, she willed them up again. It was a strange feeling, manipulating the air. She'd found that every time she practiced it felt as though she was floating, detached from herself. It was strange, true, but she had to admit she liked the feeling.

"Forward," she whispered. The winds strengthened a bit more, pushing the ship forward. The Black Dawn reached the island's rocky shore fairly quickly, though by the end of the trip Len was panting for breath. Leaning against the rail, she wiped sweat off her brow and grinned wolfishly at Deimos.

"Phew... did it, though!" she said, looking deeply pleased.

Deimos felt the ship ease near the shore and he grinned. He hadn;t been to this particular island before, so he was thrilled to explore. Lowering the anchor, he moved to Lenore. "Course you did. I never thought you couldn't.." He said to her, before looking out, giving her a moment to rest. He knew how air magic wore him out.

"I've never been here before." He admitted, trying to asess the island from the deck.

Leaning against the rail still, catching her breath, Len's eyes scanned the thickly wooded island in fascination. Who knew what could be in there...

"Sometimes when I fly I go around over the lake, but never that far. There usually isn't any warm air to keep me up high," she said, eyes scanning the shoreline. "I've never been out this far before."

It took a few more minutes to sufficiently rest herself. Pushing away from the railing, looking only a little tired, Len nodded once at Deimos.

"Ready when you are," she said.

"Let's go then." He said, starting to the side of the ship and lifting the ganplank in his arms easily, dumping it over the side of the ship. Hs strength came in handy aroudn the ship, things like the anchor weighed little to him.

Rushing onto shore, he felt the sand between his toes. Shoes were not his thing and he smiled. "You ready if we get attacked by savages?" He asked, taking confident steps towards the forest.

Following quickly behind him, Len jumped onto the sand, sending great dusty clouds into the air. Grinning, she looked around like a kid in a candy store, wanting to see and touch everything.

Hearing Dei's question, she laughed and flared her razor feathers. The metal feathers made a distinctive shhiiiiing sound, like a sword being drawn from a sheath.

"Just let 'em try," she said, a sinister grin stuck on her face.

The sound felt like music to his ears and it boosted his convidence, his sense of security. Nothing could touch them now. Taking bold steps, he beagn to eter the forst, uknowing of the slitted eyes that watched from the forest, waiting for the idea moment to strike.

Following close behind, wishing she'd thought to bring Nevermore, Lenore looked around with interest. The little island-bound forest was notably untouched by humans, peaceful and full of birds. She listened to the various calls with keen interest, smiling. She loved birdsong - and loved even more to mimic it. Whistling an echo of song back at a hidden thrush, she smiled to herself at the hard-practiced amusement.

"Maybe this is like a Mafia hangout or summat," she said to Dei eagerly, catching up with his stride. "And...and maybe they bury their loot here, like from their bank robberies and stuff... maybe once we go looting, we could hide stuff here!"

Grown excited at the idea, she looked around the ground, as though expecting to see half-buried bills and coins littering the forest floor.

"This does seem like a great place to hide stuff." He said, lokign around hismelf for any sign of shiny things. He stopped though, his eyes falling upon something white and bright on the floor. A feather, but he'd never seen a bird feather this white. "Take a look at this Len.." He said, bending down and picking up the feather for a moment before he released it. He didn't want to hold it anymore. Warning signals were going up in hsi ehad which he couldn't identify and Erebus was muttering somewhere in the back of his mind. He had a bad feeling about this..

Stooping to pick up the fallen feather, Lenore murmured enviously over it. Her own feathers, that she was really rather proud of, looked ugly and beaten compared with this pretty thing.

"Could be a swan feather," she said mildly. "Maybe heron."

Dissatisfied that she couldn't identify the bird it had come from, Lenore ran the silky thing through her fingers.

"Pretty," she said, mesmerized by the simple beauty of Dei's lucky find. Too bad he didn't seem to like it much. "Hey...you okay, Deimos?"
