Adelle took the candy cautiously, staring down at it once it sat snug in her palm. Her snakes prodded at the bit of cheeriness with their wedge-shaped noses as an afterthought, investigating the wrapper without bypassing it. Only G's warning prevented a taste test, though what else a piece of peppermint was good for, the gorgon couldn't guess. Turning it over in her hand, she decided that the hard treat bore an uncanny resemblance to a round mouth lined with sharp, red teeth; but it smelled innocuously minty, and she'd earned it by participating in that ridiculous game. Doing a quick check around the car, she slipped it into one of the small, inner-pockets on her bag, making sure it was secure by giving the spot a light pat.
The wailing at the other end of the seat row had her straightening automatically, face darkening when she realized the degree to which she'd been distracted. It didn't take long for her attention to hone in another body further cramping the area, although it was less a matter of the being taking up physical space than the wary sidling of others trying to get away from him. Considering how worked-up the ghost appeared, the discomfort was justified. Squinting and tilting her head at just the right angle let her see the swirl of phantom features that sat just beneath the straw hat's brim, the unnerving smile etched there making her skin itch. But it was just another game with another proctor, asking them to toss items in the air like it was a parade or something. Unnecessary, but the peppermint reward was still fresh in her mind, and she had to begrudgingly admit that it wasn't that difficult a task if she came away with something new.
Frowning slightly, the gorgon cast around for something on her person, finally selecting the loose drape of neon ribbon on her shoulders. Sliding it off and affixing the skull-brooch to the front of her dress instead, she bunched it up in her hands, the slithery green material hard to handle. Frustrated, she settled for giving the lumpy ball that resulted a halfhearted toss, watching it unwind slightly in the air, a coiled serpent springing into action. "B." She decided, because there was a fifty-fifty chance, no matter which letter fell out of her mouth.

Before Haku could answer, the old man had showed up from nowhere and spouted off some directions for getting a minipet. Throw something? Er . . . alright. Blinking, Haku slipped off the red beaded necklace about his throat, tossed it up in the air, and firmly said, "A!"
That done, he caught and slipped his necklace back on to return to their conversation. "Haku. Well met, Petro," he said with a nod as he pocketed Petro's candy, an ear turning as Miss Yuki's sphinx companion chimed in with a comparison of snow and sand. He made a small face at the mention of the desert. "Heat doesn't settle well with me. Too much fur, you see, most of it thick - and I imagine sand would get in it; not that I've seen desert sand before. I wouldn't trade snow for anything to be honest."

((EDIT oh gosh I forgot to roll))
Carol tried to grab another student's hair, but failed. Apparently students don't like having their hair tugged on. Who knew? Instead she tugged on a lightbulb and pegged it. Feeling proud of herself, her face morphed into a very smug look at she pretended to look at her fingernails.
The old man said something about a letter... "C! Oh...Is there no c? Ok then... A." She would've preferred C as that is the best letter in the alphabet (obviously, Carol's name starts with it!), but A was the second best. She then sat back down and waited.

The ghost dog boy, Tybalt, had dismissed Xi so quickly that the poor jiang shi boy had thought that he offended Tybalt in some way. Xi felt something, though he wasn't really sure what it was. The feeling was strange and it felt like a small slap to the face. Xi tried to think of a logical explanation as to why Tybalt just simply dismissed him like that. Perhaps he probably didn't want to talk right now, that could be very likely. Although Meng Xiang couldn't help but feel at least a little hurt, having been so quickly swept off like that. Xi sighed as he stared down at the peppermint candy in his hand that the green monster had given him for participating in the story. "Well, so much for making friends..." Xi said softly, tucking the peppermint into his pocket.
While Xi was distracted in thought over Tybalt, he snapped out of it when people began tossing up a random object and shouted either A or B. For what reason was unknown, though it made Xi very intrigued. He giggled softly and glanced around at everyone with his curious dazed stare. Another game perhaps? At least it would help him feel a little better after the small rejection he got from Tybalt. Xi snapped a random photo of a train cabin seat with his Polaroid camera. As the picture slid out of the small slot, Xi took the picture out and waved the picture around a bit to develop the image before he tossed it up into the air and shouted, "B!" he wasn't sure why he chose that letter though. He believed it had something to do with the well known phrase, 'First is the worst, second is the best!' which was what Xi was thinking of before he had called out a letter.

"Hmmmmmm"The old man hummed and hawwed. "Well, at least you're more promising than that other train car of ungrateful whippersnappers. At least most of YOU listened." Whatever 'listening' might have consisted of. "Well... a lot of you DO show promise, so I'll give my top disciples a special gift. Keep on to it for use later, it has many purposes, so many, including a paperweight, a ruler, pocket straightener, a wallet filler..."
At this point he was just rambling. You should probably just pick up the prize. CONGRATS NATALIA, TYBALT, JP, AND XI for choosing the right answer and rolling highest! You all receive: Yay!

It seemed a little odd that the appearance of the old man hadn't struck anyone as strange, Laiha included. They had all played along, regardless of the fact that they could be in trouble, and most had lost. Maybe it was the excitement of the train ride itself that had dumbed them all down. Maybe this was all a test. If so, she hoped she was doing well.
Watching the geezer hand out (or, more accurately, get mugged for) the strange cards made Laiha curious, and she slithered to the nearest recipient. It happened to be the furry girl from before, the one who smelled terrible. What was her name? Natalia. Natalia had a card and Laiha needed to see. She walked down the aisle with her back hunched, craning her neck around the seat Natalia and her new companion sat in. A security card?! For some reason it didn't seem like an old man promising minipets should be handing out security cards. She idly wondered if it was fake or a trap, and didn't realize that she had moved even closer.

Oh! The indignation! Those other students got a...something (she wasn't quite sure what he was handing out...), but SHE didn't? Hmph!
Whatever. She didn't want the crummy ol'...whatever anyway. If 4 people had gotten it, it wasn't exclusive enough for her anyway.
She felt her shoulder bump against something, as she moved away from the old geezer and someone else had moved closer.
"Oh, excuse..." she turned, already apologizing, for common courtesy had been bred into her. "YOU," she said, wrinkling her nose in disgust at the creature next to her. "Watch where you're GOING," she huffed haughtily.

Astra quickly lost interest in the old man, since she did not win one of the card thingamajigs he was giving out, but she knew some of the students had won one, so maybe she would get a good look at the ones they had. A bunch of students had bundled together, so she jumped onto the seat again and crawled onto the frame, so she could see over the top of them. It appeared one of them was a bit annoyed at another..or just arrogant.

Petro caught his wristband and snorted in mild disappointment that he didn't guess correctly. He supposed it was for the best. What with him having no pockets or bags to keep whatever that was in. Cards of sorts? That didn't sound very exciting. He decided to listen in on the conversation between Haku and the small cluster forming around the other boil. Talking about weather? Heat and cold? Petro thought it sounded like a good means of building endurance. Had he been more familiar with the others, he might have actually joined in. But for now, he was fine with listening in on the conversation.

Meng Xiang looked a bit confused as the old man handed him the plastic credit card looking thing. "Well, that sure was lucky..." Xi remarked quietly with a small giggle and turned the card in his hand. At least something good had come from today. On the back of it, the words 'Seafear Island Securities' was inscribed in big bold white letters. Seafear Island? What was that, he wondered. Xi didn't make too much of it, since he was enjoying listening to the old man speak instead. Although nobody else seemed to be listening to the old man, Meng Xiang was paying close attention to him rattling off a list of all the uses of the card. Interesting... a paperweight and a ruler? It must really come in handy if it had so many uses! Xi decided that he would make sure that all of those different ways to use the card would be taken advantage of! It was like some sort of magical all-purpose 'use it for anything you want' card!
He grinned and tucked the card behind his ear, much like you would tuck a pencil behind your ear. It stuck out awkwardly and seemed like it would fall off at any moment, though his long hair seemed to hold it in place. "Wow, this card can do everything... it must be a good luck charm too!" Xi thought to himself, his logic being that since he was one of the lucky four to receive the card, than it just had to be good luck as well!
Xi was getting all sorts of presents today! First a peppermint that he wasn't supposed to eat for whatever reason... though he was quite hungry, and now a spiffy looking plastic card that had thousands of uses. It was turning out to be a pretty good day. With his always sleepy dream-like gaze, Xi turned to look at who else had received a card and he noticed Tybalt holding one as well. He must have won too! Now he had a good luck charm just like Xi. "What are you going to do with your card? I think it's a good luck charm. You can do anything with it! It makes a nice accessory too, don't you think?" he asked the ghost dog boy softly, giggling and indicating at the card that Xi had tucked behind his ear. Before he forgot, he made sure to take a picture of the old man too for memories! 'Click, flash, whiiiirrr!' as the picture developed, he noticed the old man was really blurry. Why were ghosts always so blurry in pictures? "Oh well," he remarked as he tucked the picture away into his pocket with a smile.

"Hmm, well that was interesting," Tari said as she caught her headband and replaced it. The ankh hung just at her forehead, giving her a rather regal look. She ruffled her wings, they ached to be allowed to stretch but this car was far too crowded for such things. She'd just have to wait until they were outside before she could give a stretch. She looked back to her companions, to continue their previous conversation.
"Ah yes, I suppose my fur is so thin I never accounted for the heat, That and flying does give a good cool breeze," she swished her tail back and forth. Her cat eyes examining the dog boy. Perhaps it was one of the oldest rivalrys of the animal kingdom but suddenly she felt like teasing him. Of course she didn't act on it, after all that would be childish. But a good chase was always so fun.
She looked back to Tahki, wondering how she kept warm up in her cold mountains. Tari hated the cold, it was so rare in her country except at night and even then they kept fires going. She marveled at the other extremes of the land. The cold high mountains where the air was thin. The cement jungle of the city where the noise was deafening. Then her own home in the blistering heat of the desert.

Petro mulled over what the others were saying, and whether or not sharing such information with those one didn't know was a good idea. Or rather he would have continued to do so had Petro not found his attention going back towards the dents in the car. Despite the games and that strange old man appearing, the fact that the staff person hadn't returned didn't sit well with the monster.
"Any of you think the other cars got attacked too?" he asked, gaze fixed on the warped metal.

Nefertari looked to the boil who had asked the question. She looked to the dents, wondering the same thing. Perhaps the creature had managed to get into the other cars. Her natural instinct as a guardian animal began to kick in but she had to fight it. After all they weren't allowed to leave the car.
"Maybe, but we can't leave to find out," she grinned a bit, "Though I wouldn't mind a good tussle right now."
The ghoul flexed her claws a bit. Her grin had revealed her sharp feline fangs. Her body, as much of it wasn't covered, showed her to be a well built a muscular ghoul. She was no push over. It was so hard for her sometimes. She was a guardian animal, meant to protect. But she was also a warrior with a love of battle. Normally she kept that energy for the Roughby field but times like these made her fight instinct hard to manage. Her tail began to swish a bit more, twitching with restlessness. Damn being part cat, it was easy to read her sometimes. Damn tail.
