You'll have to meet all my friends, Mazamath, so they can be your friends too. I bet you'll like Tairoth! Adi practically skipped the rest of the way to the feeding tables to join the other two new blueriders. "Rene," she greeted her recently-made friend, "Congratulations! Isn't this cool? We both have blues!"
"We all have blues," she then amended as she offered Hers the meat he so craved. "You're Wykla, right?" Adine wasn't properly acquainted with the younger girl, but she tended to at least recognize most other weyrbrats.
Hello again Gemgareth, Kameth, Mazamath said to his fellow blues, sitting comfortably at his rider's feet while he ate.

Wykla shifted closer to Kameth and eyed the girl warily. She certainly didn't seem like a friendly short. Why'd you have to bring us over here? She really didn't need irritated girls on such a happy day. "Uh, thanks. I really didn't expect it."
She nodded to Kameth. You know I really didn't. While they had been talking, it seemed the green among the boys had made her pick. She blinked, then grinned. Pazz! Lucky him. I know Mine, that is why I had to Search for you. His attention turned to Gemgareth. If you do not complain so much, perhaps Your's wont be so grumpy. He nodded politely to Mazamath as he came over.
Wykla turned to the other girl. Hopefully she wouldn't be as prickly. "Yeah, congrats on your blues. Um, I don't think I know your name."

“Seriously,” Andeon murmured, grinning at the boy. He had seen him around, as one tended to do when participating in lessons and chores with the same group of people, but knew nothing of him. Not even his name. He was about to say something else when the Taiga looked at him, but the words escaped him as he put on a sheepish smile. “Niiiice dragon,” he said, holding up both hands. His voice was calm and composed, but judging from the way he stepped slightly behind Nayetuel, he was less that certain that the dragon was not going to eat him.
The Prairie green was looking at him a well, and for a brief moment Andeon was hopeful. Could that be her? His heart skipped a beat, but resumed it's loud, rhythmic thumping as the green passed him by and Impressed to another.
Only a few eggs left, and who knew how many of them might be duds? There was always the chance for an Atypical, but Andeon thought such a thing to be a fairly rare sort of honor. It was inviting disappointment to hope for that.

Good Job Pazzult. Shedrawn smiled, many of his fellow candidates were impressing, this was good, made for a strong, healthy Weyr and fewer dragons between which meant a healthier emotional atmosphere. People would be more apt to talk, he liked it when they talked. Just the green in the midst of the girls left unimpressed and out of her egg.

Mercy winced as the girl down the line got clawed by the big-winged blue, she was sure the little creature didn't really understand what it was doing, was just reacting as all young are prone to doing...but of course that wouldn't help the girl who was now bleeding on the sands, she stepped back a bit and glanced in the direction of the girl to see if she needed any help..but she couldn't tell from here..did she dare step out of line to see if she was alright?
Well...she couldn't just stand here and let someone bleed to death, even if her friends looked like they had things well in hand Mercy had helped the healer out at the Weyr so she figured that likely made her the best person actually standing there right now to make sure the girl wasn't seriously wounded. She quietly made her way in that direction rather hoping no one would yell at her for doing so.
"You have to put some pressure on it" She told the group of girls as she reached them and got a look at the wound, it didn't look to terribly bad, painful though and sure to leave a scar but that was a risk they all took now wasn't it? She made sure the girls were listening and putting pressure on it like she told them before glancing at the eggs and dragonets again.

Wow really? Anya thought to herself as the clumzy girl stepped on a blues wing and got clawed for her troubles. It was what she deserved for not paying better attention to what was going on around her she thought with a slight shake of her head.
In any case someone bleeding on the sands wasn't a new occurance and she brushed it out of her mind, watching as the two blues and a green impressed.

Ashmere remained in attention with her jaw squared she kept her eyes ahead and focused. She knew that many were going to walk away from the sands broken hearted, would she be one of them? She didn't want to think about it, not yet, today was a day of joy and not one for selfishness.
Sighing lightly, the young woman kept her emotions in check, for now. Later on she would sulk after the glow of new riders had worn off. She was a harper after all, whom was she to think that she could be anything more.

Tila couldn't help but laugh at loud at the 'look' the green Taiga egg gave Andeon. She was certain the dragon had not liked his actions and was giving him the 'i know where you sleep' look.. but she could be wrong. Then again she also would rather NOT having a dragon as a enemy.
Only a few eggs left, most of the dragons had already chosen theirs. Only one dragon was still searching.... the rest had chosen not to hatch yet. Would they need help hatching?

A small twitch of her lips was the only indication that Faehari was glad that the Alpine egg had hatched and the dragonet Impressed, as had its brothers. That aside, the actual Impressions themselves had not been that impressive; rather boring, actually.
The emergence of two Greens got her attention. She liked Greens as a matter of pride: Greens were girl dragons. Although she had no qualms with male Greenriders, she always thought it made more sense when a Green chose a girl. After all, girls should stick together. If for no other reason then that, Faehari followed the Taiga dragonet’s movements more closely then her sister’s, barely clapping when the other Impressed.

Jarest gaze flicked anxiously between the bleeding girl and then back to Tila, he hoped so much for her, she would surely find hers wouldn't she? Wouldn't she?
He knew not everyone could impress right away though, he'd been so lucky. His hand ran over the little green's head and he fed her another piece and gave a sheepish grin to Wykla wondering if she remembered talking to him at all. We can not make them be paired mine, there will be other things we can solve though, we are sure of it.

"I think she took offense," Nayetuel commented quietly, shifting in place anxiously and trying to keep an eye both on the redhead 'hiding' behind him and the dragonet still on the Sands. The possibly-offended dragonet that he might possibly be blocking from the source of her irritation. "But it looks like she's too busy finding Hers to offer chastisement- lucky you." The Green had turned her attention back to the girls, fortunately, and Nayetuel relaxed just a little.
Of course, there were fewer and fewer eggs left, and the Green that had been investigating the boys had found Hers, so he didn't completely relax. He was too on edge, too painfully hopeful, for that.

The Taiga green finally found hers and stopped some several paces away, head lifted up and eyes whirling a mixture of orange and blue as she bugled and called to Hers. Tilamine! Why are you standing with the rest of these pansies? Your Halrith knows there is work to be done! She huffed and without waiting on the girl, started towards the feeding tables, the lure of hunger finally too much to ignore now that she'd Impressed. While the green was off Impressing, Eirlyn hefted her egg-breaking shovel and stepped forward, glancing first at Feynath and then Ianath. A short exchange between the two golds and the Senior gold moved out onto the Sands, positioning herself between Eirlyn and Ianath. This was something reserved for the Weyrwoman alone but breaking eggs of another's clutch sometimes caused emotions to run too high - thus the direct and unmistakable presence of Feynath. She'd been doing this for long enough to recognize when the whacking needed to begin. Those two eggs - no three, she remembered - had wiggled and moved but hadn't broken. It was worrisome, though, that of a clutch of ten there'd only been one brown and three atypicals... had the curse of the Northern Weyrs finally found a hold in Malvren? The thought was chilling as she tromped on over to the eggs and looked up at the Candidates, the shovel slung over a shoulder. "Alright! Candidates, form up and move up! You know the drill!" She waited the moment for them to reorganize themselves then swung and hit the first of the eggs with a good thwap. Something inside yelped and she shook her head as she more gingerly poked at the cracked shell of the doppleganger Desert egg. A little leg poked out, dark from the goo, and then a head and the egg broken properly with a little helpful tap. The crimson tossed its head gave the Weyrwoman an indigant look before turning its head to look the Candidates over and started, with bugles of need, to toddle towards the girls. It really seemed as though this clutch loved it girls. It was nice to see, for a change, Eirlyn figured, amused as she hefted the shovel and padded towards the Deep Ocean egg next, waiting for the Impression to be made if it was to be made.

After ensuring that the clawed up girl would be fine - someone had finally offered up a bit of cloth to bind it Mercy had turned her full attention back to the hatching - just in time to hear the thud of shovel hitting egg and see a pretty little crimson toddling towards them.
It was the little buried egg that she had hatched from and mercy breathed a small sigh of relief..obviously being buried hadn't done her any terrible damage..at least it didn't look like it had!

Ashmere felt physically drained as she watched yet another pair off and with only three eggs remaining, the thin girl was beginning to wan in hope. She knew that it had been a joke when they told her that they wished for her to stand for this clutch. Who was she to think she even had a shot, she was too old to start having such lavish dreams of being a dragon rider of pern.
No. She would not stand again, not after this. It hurt far too badly.

"I'm Adi," she answered, "It's nice to meet you! And Yours, of course. They're all so lovely." The girl giggled. "Three handsome boys for three pretty girls!" Alright, so Rene wasn't pretty by most standards, but that wasn't the sort of thing Adi dwelled on. Every girl was pretty, in one way or another.
Yes, we all chose Ours well, Mazamath agreed. Hopefully the three girls would get along. He knew that would make Adi very happy.
--
Now this...this was the most fascinating part of the hatching by far. Allia did as instructed, forming up with the rest of the girls to watch the Weyrwoman break the shells of the three remaining eggs. The first she cracked revealed itself to be a crimson, who didn't seem terribly thrilled about Eirlyn's methods. Ooh. What would the others be?
