“Captain, eh? I could get used to that.” He said with a laugh, even though the title fit him as well as a child’s sweater would. Then he shook his head. “I don’t come over here very often, but I think I can get us where we’re trying to go.” Glancing down at their hands, he smirked and pulled the cloak from his shoulders. The rowing had warmed him plenty. Clasping it back around Tessa’s neck, fingertips brushing against her skin, he lifted their manacled hands together to rest them on her shoulder so that the cloak covered both.

“Onward then.” He said, looking straight forward without bothering to hide the lingering smile. “So, even if we find the guy, how’re we gonna get outta, you know, these?” He asked, tapping his finger against the chain. He felt the key still tucked back in his cheek. It couldn’t actually be for these cuffs, could it? That’d just be… too much to be a coincidence. Too nervous to try it, but too nervous to simply toss the key to the side.

Tessa couldn't believe he was giving the cloak back. She was even more surprised when he not only clasped it around her neck, but placed their hands, together, on her shoulder. Her skin still tingled from where his fingerstips brushed against her.

The cattaur smiled from ear to ear, and followed his lead. "Who knows? Maybe we'll be chained together forever." She laughed, and shook her head. "Nah. I figure there has to be some fool somewhere that can break them. I mean, it's not like we have a key, right?"

Her skin was cool from exposure on the open sea, but soon enough the cloak's cover warmed both her shoulder and his hand. Her skin was surprisingly smooth... Shouldn't an assassin be rough and, well, not so nice to stroke his fingers against? Somehow, he managed to keep from doing just that.

Her comments brought a nervous laugh up and he quickly shook his head. "You're right. There must be someone around to break these. Even you assassins must have a back-up plan." Not responding to the key question, he perked up as the town came into view. Taur were scurrying everywhere, whether getting ready to go home or to go out for late nights; everyone had somewhere to be. "Looks like we're just in time to follow the tavern crowd." He said with a chuckle.

Quintessa smiled evilly, batting her warm eyes up at Gabriel. "We always have backup plans, but I don't suppose you would be to keen on what I had in mind." It wouldn't be the first time cutting off his arm became an option, but it didn't appeal to her as much now as it had earlier. She could think so many other things to do with it that didn't involve rotting in the street. Deliciously, naughty things.

She leaned in closer to him to avoid being mobbed by the crowd, loosely tangling her fingers with his before squeezing.

Eyes flicking down to meet hers, he searched a moment before frowning and shaking his head. "No, I probably wouldn't." He agreed, turning forward again and focusing on getting through the crowd instead of what those backup plans might be.

Clenching his jaw at how rediculously nice it felt with her hunkered against his side, even if it was just to avoid being bullied by the crowd, he managed to swim through the cozy population with relative ease, used to such situations. He squeezed her fingers in return before realizing what he was doing. Really, he didn't notice he'd done it at all. "Looks like this is it." He said with a light smirk, stopping in front of a two story building with one taur already passed out on the porch and a sign in the shape of a large mug, labeling it as the best tavern in town. He snorted in amusement at the claim.

And hunker she did. Tessa wasn't used to walking so noticably through crowds, and it made her extremely uncomfortable. What if they recognized her face? Was the target in the crowd? Did he see the way her eyes softened when he squeezed back?

"How charming." Tessa sighed dramatically, leaning against Gabriel with a hand against her chest. "It's like I've come home!" She laughed. "How much do you want to bet their ale tastes like piss?" The assasin teased while sidestepping a pair of singing drunks on her way in.

He nodded slowly, craning his neck to look into the open doors from which loud music and louder conversation blasted. Perking his ears, he threw his head back and laughed, forced to cut it short in order to not swallow the key. "No bet at all unless I can pick the same answer you're thinking."

Making it onto the porch, he wrinkled his nose at the smell of someone's stomach contents spilled nearby. "Damn. This ain't any place to bring a lady." He grumbled. Even he had standards. But from the sound of the crowd they had just walked through, this really was the best place in town. He glanced at Tessa again and grinned playfully. "I think we should avoid the caviar here." Then he led the way inside.

"You're right. Good thing I'm not a lady, right?" Tessa bumped her hip into his, grinning the whole way. Still, when her cloak came off one shoulder, and some of the wolves caught a look at her, she felt like all female. Not a lady, but this was a start.

Once inside, Tessa caught a whiff of man smell, vomit, and piss. Home sweet home! She broke through the crowd to the bar, flagging down the bartender. "Got any rooms?"

The older wolftaur, a stalky male with a pronounced gut, nodded. " 'Fraid all's we gots is one left, miss."

"That'll do." She slapped a bag of coin onto the sticky bar. "That should be enough to cover the room, a few rounds, and something warm to eat, would you say?"

After a quick look inside, the man nodded and disappeared, presumably to get her something to eat. If she didn't get something in her stomach soon, she'd be having cervitaur soup.

"Yeah. Good thing." He teased, carefully pushing a half-asleep foxtaur out of his path. He looked around the space while Quintessa worked with the bartender, glancing at the coin bag with a frown. Well, he didn't have anything on him. What he'd left home with had been left behind at the ball court with his buds. It was probably spent by now, too.

For better or worse, he didn't recognize any of the patrons. Considering how much of the tavern's food was on the floor, he wasn't sure he wanted to try eating it himself. But, despite the sour sight and smell of the place, he was still starving. "Think he'll be offended if I ask to make sure the plates are clean?" He was only half joking.

Quintessa leaned back to call him on his pansiness when she saw a pile of...something on the floor. She pulled back with disgust. "As good as that sounds, I'd rather not be thrown out on my a**. Especially after I gave him the last of my gold."

If they didn't come across this guy sometime soon, she'd have to get crafty.

" 'ere ya go. " The bartender slid two bowls of slop infront of them, as well as two large mugs of brew. " Y'ere rooms the last on the left."

Quintessa leaned forward, curling her lip in a snarl at the bowl. She poked at a bouncing wad of something with her claw. If it tasted as bad as it smelled, starving wouldn't be so bad.

Seeing the look on Quintessa’s face, Gabriel needed surprisingly little effort to keep himself from looking to see what had caused such an expression. What did take effort was to keep from gagging at the sight of the stew placed before them. Were they really going to eat this? “I’m not nearly drunk enough to try that.” He growled under his breath. His eyes rose to peek into the kitchen, hoping to get a look at what could possibly be in their bowls when he saw a few grungy packs hanging on the wall. Cheap ones, but hey, their resources were limited. “Oy! Barkeep! Did she give you enough to get one of those bags, too?”

The heavy wolftaur turned with a curious air. Peeking into the bag of coins he’d been given, his gaze narrowed in thought.

Perking his ears, knowing the manager was planning on saying no in an attempt to wring more profit, Gabriel went on impulse and took a bite of the stew to put himself in good favor. ....His body immediately stiffened, and his jaw was so tense that one might think he was chewing glass. Even his eyes watered lightly. After nearly a half minute of a staring contest, he finally swallowed the lump in his mouth, and prayed that he would still be able to taste anything after that. Again, his willpower was on the line to keep his stomach from rebelling against the mystery food.

That seemed to please the wolftaur though. Smirking as though they had just shared a private joke, he pulled a pack down and tossed it at the fox before continuing his rounds.

Nearly tipping over from the impact of the pack, clutching it to his belly, he sighed and took a careful swallow of the ale; which, really, wasn’t the worst he’d ever had. “I’ll go out and hunt for something with you on my back if I have to.” He groaned to Quintessa, relieved that the key had stayed in place during that torture. “Just. Don’t. Eat that.” Getting his breath back, he picked up the mug of ale and stared at it, one corner of his mouth lifting in amusement. “This stuff is so thick though, it might fill you without needing food.”

Quintessa slapped her hand down on the table, feeling a rage at just the thought of the bartender turning him down until she saw Gabriel's face. She leaned across the table, craning her neck to get a better look at his face. "Holy s**t....Gabriel? You okay?" Her jaw hung down to the floor. Was he...was he dying?!

Quintessa quickly placed her hands on his shoulders to keep him upright in the chair. Shock displayed itself on her face, and slowly, she nodded. "Ya, sure." On a whim, she took a swig of the ale, not bothering to lighten the amount she usually drank. On her own, she could down an entire pint in one go, but as soon as that acid hit her tongue she felt herself gag. Quintessa slammed the glass down onto the bar with one hand over her mouth. It took a bit of careful breathing just for her to be able to swallow. "Go. Just, get the hell out of here."

Giving his head a rough shake to clear it, he felt a smug little smirk attempt to play along his lips. She'd been concerned about him~ Keeping down his urge to point it out, he nodded and pushed away from the counter. "Come on. We'll do your searching for info thing after I vomit." He murmured, squeezing her shoulder as he tugged her away from the bar. He swore he could hear the bartender laughing at them from the back kitchen.

Outside, he took a deep breath and shook his head again. "That was unfortunate." He grumbled, taking a deep breath of air. "I've officially lost my appetite." He glanced at her, lifting his free hand to adjust her cloak, the manacles having been revealed a little as they had escaped. "Where to now?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2011 7:57 pm

Slipping her arm around his waist, she bade goodbye to her coin, as well as her warm bath. It may have been infested with roaches, but it still would have been warm. Outside, all she could do was huddle against him. The cold early morning air was starting to get to her. "Unfortunate indeed." She yawned, pressing her breasts up against his arm. "Did you mean what you said, about hunting?"

Quintessa looked up at him warily, doing little to hide her hope. "If you're not, then I'm going to start stripping because as it stands, I'm hungry enough to eat you." She looked up at him seriously. "And not in the good way."

When she moved her arm to take off her cloak, the cold manacle scraped against her collar bone and she jerked her arm away with a hiss. "Damn it all! I'm tired of hiding like a slave!" Quintessa slung her arm in a fit, baring her fangs, ready to chew the damn thing off.

He sighed and shrugged, also thinking about the used coin. "We can go back in to sleep for a while, if you've still got the key, since you did pay for it, but I want something to eat that isn't going to burn through my stomach first. ..Of course I meant it! Unless you think anything here is worth stealing." He held up one hand innocently. "Only in serious circumstances like this do I even entertain the idea of stealing."

Perking his ears as she reacted to the chains, he used his free hand to explore the pockets of the pack he'd just gotten, checking for holes. It seemed like a decent material, would hold up for a while. While she was grumping, he slipped the strap over his head to cross his chest, spitting the key out finally and tucking it deep into one of the pockets. "You want everyone else asking us why were walking around chained together like criminals? Or, slaves, as you put it?" He asked in a low tone, rolling his eyes. "Come on, assassin, quit your bitchin'. We'll get out of these eventually."
