I definitely want to get involved in this, and I'll probably do some of the previous meditations throughout this week.
This is quite a nice idea smile

If it is ok I would like to suggest a new meditation exercise. It is very simple. All it requires is a candle and something to sit on while you are on the floor. All you do is sit on the floor with a lit candle in front of you. Concentrate on the flame and remain as still as you can.
Would anyone be interested in doing this?

I would definitely be interested, however, I can't really use candles, as I live in a dorm situation. I don't want to be one to stop it though, if it works for everyone else.

Not being able to light candles was one of the many things I hated about living in a dorm. xp

Some questions!
1) What is the ambient light we will be working with? Daytime, nighttime, lights on or off?
2) What of possible damage to retinas?

Maybe don't look directly at the flame. Look just above it or let your eyes unfocus so you're not concentrating too much on the very bright flame. Another option is to use an adjustable oil lamp and keep the flame low and dim. Though if it's too dim you'll have to futz around with it and ruin the mood, and you'd need to have some ventilation.

The oil lamp sounds like an interesting idea. I think I actually have one in my house somewhere. I think I will just try a candle first. If that fails I will try the lamp. 3nodding

I don't know if anyone's still doing this since it's been a few months since anyone's posted, but maybe this will help re-motivate people and the making of this thread. Meditating has always been rather difficult for me and I typically don't have the time to practice, but I've seen a few ideas that I'd defiantly like to try and hopefully enables me to find a mediation that works for me. So I'd really like to see some more ideas.
But to maybe move the thread a little I'll throw an idea that came to me tonight.
Recently I've been feeling bogged down with anxieties, personal conflicts, and etc. And to top it off my boyfriend's friend who I'm not entirely comfortable with was staying the night because of some personal drama. So his presence made me feel even more unsettled, making me regret staying at my boyfriend's house. So to kind of get away, I took a shower. Now for me, showers always help me clear my head and even lift my spirits, if only slightly. Although I wanted more than that tonight and since the shower would be my only alone time and the effect it already has on me I decided to take full advantage of it. Now this might not be a full on type of meditation, maybe more semi-meditation, or a possible pre-meditation act to get you in the right mindset. Depending on the circumstances of one's life and schedule or the person, but this is what it is essentially: As you wash your body, scrub not only the dirt and grim but also all anxieties, fears, doubts and negative energies/thoughts you have. As you wash off, watch the soap run down your body and visualize all those negative thoughts wash down your body and into the drain as well. Close your eyes and feel the warm water on your skin, feel your muscles relax. Take a few deep breathes ((you can sit down on the tub floor or a shower chair if your more comfortable this way)) and center and ground yourself. Focus on the what feels like the center of yourself, feel the energy inside your core. Focus on this as long as needed or desired. When content, take a few more deep breathes and slowly move outwards again and open your eyes. Finish your shower and exit.
I felt immensely better afterwards. I felt calm and at peace, I was able to look at my troubles with much less anxiety then before. I was content with my boyfriend's friend's presence and the rest of my night was rather pleasant. However I'll be honest I've only done this once, so it might have been a fluke, or if showers don't have much effect on you in general it might not have the same effect as it did me. ^^;; But this is something I plan on doing more of in the future.

Hey, remember when this was a thing?
And then we all like never did any of the meditations because we are all really slack
Well, since I have made a personal commitment to meditate pretty much every day (admittedly I am only like 3 days into it so it's possible I could just flake entirely BUT I am TRYING SO.) I figured I'd resurrect this.
So, here is the deal. The new deal.
Every week, at some point.... when I remember.... I'll post a prompt of some kind. Maybe an image, a word, a poem, a chant or mantra, music, a youtube video, an object. I'll try to keep them vague rather than religion-specific, but I might throw in a few theistic ones to mix things up.
The challenge is to take the prompt, adapt or change it however you like (or not at all), and report back on how your meditation went. You don't have to go into detail, just tell us what you ended up doing with the prompt and whether it was a successful or interesting meditation for you. If it was boring or distracting or difficult, say that too.
Just trying to get a bit more "community" going on here biggrin
So! Before I throw something out into the ether, does anyone.... y'know, actually want to join in? Have any thoughts? etc?

I DO!!! I've been thinking about starting like meditation time over at Zane's. He said that he used to do it a lot but since we've been hanging out more he's been slacking with it. And yesterday would have been the perfect time for me to try while I was over there. Nothing was really going on on Gaia. I didn't really have the motivation to work on crafts like my original plan was. And I was alone in the basement for nearly the whole time (wanted to try the first couple times over there alone to get comfortable). Plus he already gave me the go ahead for if I wanna use his candles or incense. I just have to do a bit of cleaning first before I use them. It looks like my craft stuff exploded all over his room cat_sweatdrop
