I'm a new member here. I am 23 and I am somewhat intrested in Buddhism.

I'm intrigued about trying to see the world as it really is instead of constantly being preoccupied with my own thoughts. As far as I can see, Buddhism is about being aware of what you are doing.... (maybe a little more) I'll be looking into this more, and will be eager to discuss these things later on... when I'm not preoccupied with going to class like I am now. smile

Funny things, these thoughts.

After I graduate from school I'm leaving America for a year for a foreign exchange. I'm fortunate enough to be going somewhere where Buddhism isn't looked upon as "Oh, they worship that fat guy, right?".
xd

I know that feeling.

"You worship that fat guy?"

--"The Buddha wasn't fat."

"But all those statues show him as being fat."

--"You mean the Chinese Buddhas? The one's that depict Hotei, the Bodhisattva of compassion, who was a real monk, who was really fat?"

"Yeah, that's the Buddha, right?"

--"Yes and no."

"So I'm right. Buddha=fat."

-- stare

Hi! My name is Robin and I am 20 years old. I live in Fremont, CA which is Northern California in the Bay Area. I was born into a Mormon family but have not considered myself a Mormon for at least 5-6 years. Right now I am just sort of exploring types of religions that appeal to me and trying to find out which one I fit into best. Ever since I stopped believing in a god that punished people for sinning and this devil who tortured you in hell I have felt so much more happy and free. I feel more connected with people around me now that I don't have to worry that I'm constantly dissapointing some god who will judge me later. I definitely believe in reincarnation, and I hope to learn much more about Buddhism from this guild! surprised smile

Greetings, I've been for awhile but my have yet to have time to introduce myself.

Name: Sassy
Age: 19
State/Country: California, USA
Following: Zen
Eyes: BlueGreen
Hair: Brunette
Fav. Color: Red
Fav. Food: Japanese Food
Fav. Scent: Avons Haiku Awakenings over Vanilla Body Oil

Asperations: I plan to teach english in Japan. I also have the crack-pot desire to be a Zen Nun in Korea for about a decade(if that's allowed o_O)

I have many interesting little likings such as Japanese Music and oddball knowledge on things such as Chinese foot binding. I've only recently full on said "I'm Buddhist" rather then my usual "I'm agnostic with Buddhist tendencies" after mulling over it for quite some time. I guess a big killer aspect of me is that I've never been so drawn to one religion/philosophy and never has one held so true to who I was to begin with without having to mold myself to some demanding pre-existing standards.

For Warmth

I hold my face in my two hands.
No, I am not crying.
I hold my face in my tow hands
to keep the loneliness warm---
two hands protectin,
two hands nourishing,
two hands preventing
my soul from leaving me
in anger.

Hello! My name's Dark, or, atleast that's what I use as myself...*didn't make any sense there* SORRY! OK. I became a buddist after being yelled at by a Cathlic Priest. sweatdrop I was 3 at the time, so it really broke all my respect for such people. As I got older I decided not to hold any more grudges against other religions! And I don't get upset when my friends try to convert me to Christianity as they get upset when I ask them questions. wink
gonk I keep talking too much!
I'm sorry!!! *bows repeatedly*

Hi, I am new. My name is Arlanet and I am 18. I really admire the few things I know about Buddhism, although I am still Christian. I am interested in learning more about Buddhism, so....hopefully I can learn here.

Hello, My real name is Amelia, and I'm 18. Since I was really young, my dad had been taking me to church and my mom would hold pagain rituals. Since then I have been thinking on what exactly do I believe?

My mom understood this and took me to a unitariun church school, where you are taught about religions and how they all work together. This was the first time I heard of the buddhist faith, but it wasn't until I was 16 that I really started to consider it. I have for a long time believed that we are all alive to learn, and to grow with that learning. Buddhism fit this perfectly.

after looking further into the religion, I decdied that I was indeed Buddhist. I don't see much of a change in how I acted then, then I do now, except that I have a goal in mind, enlightenment, and my lessons hold more apparent meaning.

Any way, I love the guild, this place is a great enviroment to learn in, I have already learned so much by simply browsing for a few minutes.

I also love the statement made by Akanishi Makoto (I read your name, I'm spacing it, I'm bad with names, I'm sooo sorry!)

"We're all in this together. Enjoy."

That made me feel so warm inside, thank you.

My name is Lauren, I am 17 and live in England.
I have been interested in Buddhism since I was 15. It became more serious for me last year after reading a lot and hearing from other people's experiences.
Since then I have been a different person after realising things about the world. Buddhism has restored my focus somewhat, and I continue to build it through meditation every day.
