The firelizard chattered in agitation at the boy's poor reception of her, but at his dragon's soothing note she calmed back down considerably. With what almost seemed to be an indignant huff, Mossy parted ways with the boy's shoulder and fluttered lightly onto the small dragon's head instead. She gave a happy croon to the Blue, glad that he wasn't as rude as His was.

"He had left the Weyr?" S'ren replied back, careful to maintain a lower volume just as V'tur was. "What was he doing in Eron Hold exactly?" That was an odd set of circumstances indeed. He remembered Xan telling him before about the incident between the Brown and Blackriders, but he was unaware of what had continued on since then. Had he left the Weyr on business, or on his own?

V’al shuttered at the little green’s displeased chittering. “Gretcha – my mother – had a green like that.” He lowered his hand slowly, still grimacing at the little flit. “The thing was a scratching snit. I’ve no taste love for them myself.” His mother’s little green had been nasty as it had been fat and pampered. Had its scratches not been so fine and easily healed, there would have been several ugly scars on his arms to attest to its overzealous territorial habits. He glanced at the rider, struggling to remove himself from bitter memories to reengage the conversation. He failed sorely.

Lerath tilted his head so the green could perch on his long snout. There, he could close one eye and observe the delicate beauty without going cross-eyed. He snuffed as her tail tickled over his nose without knowing how absurd his curiosity made him look now. I will manage her if you ask my question, Mine, though you really must explain to me your fear of this little one to me later.

V’al shook his head, as if shaking the agitated etchings in his mind. “My Lerath is one for questions. I’ve lost my appetite for intrigue, but he wants to know if you or Yours saw the fight between Alumanth and the bronze.” It was an insensitive question, but V’al hardly seemed a sensitive sort of boy.

R'vik winced in sympathy. The closest he had to a similar experience was when he attempted to run through a brier bush to escape a hungry feline. It ended up working, though he kept finding thorns in his clothes for weeks after.

At V'al's question, R'vik shook his head slowly. "No," he answered, "Before... Before Alumath and that deadglow of a bronze and his rider, Xalth and I used to go for runs outside the Weyr." He paused, "Not Xalth -- Xalth would fly overhead, I would do the running. By the time it happened, we were called back and told to wait." He sighed. "You and Yours have my deepest sympathies. I can ask around if Lerath wants, but I can't guarantee that I'll find anything."

V’al’s mouth twitched oddly, though not in condemnation, and he glanced at the small blue dragon idly playing with the firelizard, communicating for a moment. “It’s alight,” he said, turning back with a grunt. “I saw enough of it to describe it to him. He was more interested in your reaction, which he’s satisfied with.” He surveyed the rider, either unaware or indifferent to the their rank difference and the social recklessness of so openly passing judgment on an older rider, guest of the weyr, and man standing on a delicate political web. “I suppose I’ll have to be as well. I heard you and your fellows are leaving soon.”

R'vik looked between the rider and his dragon in surprise. Did he just hear that right? His... dragon wanted to know of his reaction? The runner couldn't help but to chuckle. "The two of you will make a formidable pair one day."

He flashed the boy a look of puzzlement. He... didn't trust his dragon? V'al wasn't as naive as R'vik was certainly, if naive was the best way to describe it. The rider shrugged it off despite feeling Xalth's shared puzzlement. "Aye, in a couple of days. I rather enjoyed going for a couple runs around the Weyr, even if the temperature disagrees with me more often than not."

Kelvari's address to him was very polite and it pleased Cavenath greatly. Certainly, this newly bonded pair would be an excellent representation when they were older - they were already very good. And the whirlwind of questions that Sakath hurled at him just made him warble in amusement even as Kelvari was telling His to slow them down.

'We flew with the rest, no later. After Ianath and Pioth, we took the sky together. I don't know Dannath, but that is right. Some of us need longer for our muscles, flying can make you tired very quick at first. No firestone yet, just flying with Mine and going Between.' Cavenath didn't bother speaking about what Malvren was like, instead he gave Sakath several pictures of his home before informing him that no, he had not yet met any of the Benden dragons, but he wanted to.

Werywoman Erilyn excused herself and left S'raid standing with S'dekai and T'ron, both of whom would politely excuse themselves after a few moments. Once they had all separated, T'ron retreated to find Cavenath and his companions; though he did stop once or twice to seek out Inaari's eyes. He would speak with more people if he had the time, but first...Sakath and His. The tall silverrider strode up to Kelvari and Sakath with an open smile. "Hello, I'm T'ron, this behemoth's rider." He patted his dragon's shoulder and reached up to scritch at the lowered head's eye ridges. "Cav says that Yours is called Sakath."

'Sakath has lots of questions, but I told him he would be big and strong like me. The most important part. And Oiling, yes. But His is smart, so this will be no problem.' Puffed up like a prince or a peacock, he was absolutely certain that he knew this would be true. Because he said so.

Rown
"Ah...greetins ta ya as well, Brownrider. I'm Ofelia, an' this 'ere on the ground is mah Serinth, though I'm afraid she'd bein' a bit snippy right now so ya might not wanna step inta talkin' wit' 'er jus' yet."

Almost as suddenly as she's been surrounded before, there were two riders and two sets of brown dragons now gathering around Ofelia and her new lifemate. It wasn't such a bad thing, she adored the color brown and naturally that meant she liked brown dragons, though there was something snickering in the back of her mind about the fact that these were browns. . . and she had a crimson. did that mean one day that either of these dragons would fly Serinth? Ofelia already. . . knew S'ren, so say the least, but this man who just approached was a complete stranger with a large dragon. A bit unnerving, but what could she do about it other than simply smile and take in his greeting?

. . . .I will take your word for now, but just remember that she's mine and will one day fly in the skies with me. You'll do well to follow behind us, because I'm going to be amazing. You'll see. Ofie will be amazing with me at her side.

It was amusing to see how quickly Serinth had decided her course of life with Ofelia at her side, but likely she was just trying to talk big in front of two huge dragons. Her rider stood nearby and listened to every word with a mild smirk on her face, though that expression quickly faded the moment a young woman came walking over. . .with a massively large crimson dragon. Serinth's interests instantly turned away towards the one of her own color, a monolith in her own right, and Ofelia was glad to see another female rider.

Greetings to you too then, Moriath. I'm Serinth, and that is Ofie. She doesn't like to be called Mine at all, so I'm going to call her Ofie. I wish she wouldn't be so picky this early in, but. . .what do you mean by circumstances? I know we're here for something tragic, Ofie had said and felt that much, but I get the feelings from her that she doesn't...care as much as everyone else. I do not understand, please explain.

It was Ofelia's turn to bow in response to the greeting, but shards if the Tanner had any manners at all that were proper for a rider or a Weyr. Instead of bow she merely bobbed her head and extended out her hand, a familiar doofy smile gracing her lips as she gave her own greetings.

"The name's Ofelia, but most jus' call me Ofie. Mah little one there is called Serinth, no nickname for 'er. It's really nice ta be meetin' another female rider, expescially one who's on a Crimson - seein' as the only other rider of my level is a man. Kinda hard ta get a feel on what it's like to be a female Crimsonrider from someone like 'em, yeah?"

Nobody had told her? Well that was senseless, crimsons might be physically weak at birth but their minds were strong; the young one did not need to be sheltered from the truth... Although, from what she said, perhaps her rider just didn't see that it was important. "We are here to mourn the death of crimson Alumanth and Hers," Moriath said with a soft rumble. "She was killed by a Benden bronze even as she guarded you and your siblings within your eggs. We from Malvren have joined you today to show our respect for a great dragon; not many of our color successfully clutch, the fact she did and that she was lost in such a way is worth marking." That was the thing about being a clutching crimson; you couldn't control how well you did... Of course she was sure that if she chose that way she would produce many fine eggs - her size should ensure a good long flight for one - and yet... It wouldn't happen every time. She might have a clutch a turn if she was very lucky indeed... It would be a fine clutch every time, she would have many strong daughters, and some good atypical sons too along with whatever blues hatched out and... It was a lot to think about. She didn't know what to do. She hoped Hers wasn't too keenly aware of her indecision.

"Ofelia, Serinth," Kleos offered a slight smile, "I must confess I'm glad to meet another young crimson rider as well. It seems like just yesterday that I was in your position, I can scarce believe how much Moriath has grown." Far from the weak little thing who had hardly been able to stagger off the sands, her bondmate had grown to match the size of an average brown, and with just about as much bulk to her as well. "As to what it's been like," the blonde went on, "it's been very hard work, I must admit. Worth it of course, but that doesn't change how exhausting these last few months have been... And of course, we shall be expected to decide which path we shall walk before long. I'm not sure that Moriath has any idea what she wants to be yet." She knew what she wanted, but it wasn't her body; it had to be Moriath's choice... She hoped she was keeping her longing to be a fighter from her lifemate, she didn't want to influence her... Well she did want to, but she knew she shouldn't and so she was trying not to. She had to do what was right for Hers, not for herself.

He’s not drooling over her death. Lerath said singularly to His and with a snuff and gentle toss of his head, sent the flitt aloft.

If all the Benden riders had been so reserved in their opinions against alternates, your mother would still be alive. This man’s voice is only one among many. Influential, as a rider, but hardly indicative of the whole. Presuming he’s perfectly truthful, it still leaves the other riders and healers unaccounted for. V’al mind crafted harsh, blunt words, but thankfully the bond with his dragon did the better part of communicating. He wasn’t one to speak of love, nor was he prone to coddling, but Lerath never doubted his faith. At Val’s best, when the two were alone, he could express relief that he didn’t have to mold himself into shapes of common affection that seemed to gall him, that a simple pat or word of praise now and then or wordless flood of affection made his adoration expressible.

Even now, as Lerath huffed the lizard away, V’al laid a hand across the back of the dragon’s head in gentle approval. Formidable? That was one way to put it. “We both enjoy seeing things through to the finish.

“You’ve runner blood, hmm?” he prompted, guessing from the man’s second referral to running and his lanky body. “I’m Hold born, myself. Makes Weyrs feel strange.

"A good trait to have," R'vik replied, "When the skies are clear, we Blueriders often don't have any pressing duties -- finishing what you're given quickly often allows you to pursue other tasks. For dragons, it's usually hunting, sunning, or chasing greens. For us riders..." He shrugged. "Unless otherwise told, we're usually free to pursue what tasks we please. Some riders at Benden also brew spirits or go hunting, for instance."

At the question, he nodded and grinned. "Aye, runner blood through and through. It takes some time getting used to it, but Weyrs aren't all that bad."

Relys chuckles. "I'm sure she'll just get more helpful as she grows. Good luck with her. I'd like to see her again when she's all grown." He nods, rather sheepishly. "Yeah, it is kinda hard to attend hatchings in the middle of the day. At least for me."

He strolls along after the green dragon and her rider. "So what exactly is she after?" Not having anything better to do then follow; having this 'in' with the riders directly could prove a boon to the traders. Not that he'd really know since trading wasn't really up his alley.

F'ren shrugged again, "i'm sure you'll see more of her as she gets bigger, i swear she does every day" he said, grimmacin at the almost constant oiling she needed at least twice a day, at least that's what she insisted on anyway, as soon as they woke, and before they slept.

As he and Relys made their way through the mourners to the tables where the butcher was standing he heard Relys' comment "she's after some raw meat, she doesn't much like the cooked meat, but she likes it fresh too" he said. Toulonth made it to the tables and she creeled at the butcher, her eyes whirling slightly red with her hunger. Mine, hurry tell the man that i want him to cut some meat for me, i want it really fresh, pleeease! F'ren explained to the man, as well as Relys what it was she wanted exactly, which she duly recieved.

Relys chuckled softly. "They do seem to grow oftly fast." Thinks back to Relysk's growing years with a faint smile on his lips. Luckily there hadn't been endless oiling for him, just countless sleepless nights following a young Relysk around so he didn't get into trouble. "We'll if she's ever up late evening, early night you're more than welcome to stop by my wagon. I'm sure Relysk would be curious to see her." He knew F'ren hadn't exactly enjoyed his nights spent around the wher, but maybe to show off his beauty he'd come by.

He smothed a laugh, amused by the green, when F'ren explains what she wants. "I can't blame her for wanting fresh." Relys stood easily by, watching the little green eat her fill.

Despite the hard reservation of the new bluerider, he was still a boy, and his mouth twitched in echo of a smile. The tension around his eyes eased as well. “I think my new training is going to keep me busy for a while yet, but I was a leatherworking apprentice before I was Searched. I’d like to keep up with that, as much as I can anyway. Suppose it could work” He made a nod to the older man’s lean form. “You still look a runner.”

"Leatherworking? That's a good craft," R'vik replied, indicating his outfit. "You'll be able to select the leather for your riding gear when you have enough marks for it. I think you'll also have a leg-up over your fellow weyrmates when it comes to maintaining your riding gear."

At the compliment, the former runner grinned. "Thank you. I still wear my messenger belt and do my morning runs," he glanced down at himself and chuckled. "Being able to fit into my clothes isn't bad either, I suppose."

V’al made a thoughtful noise. He considered using his crafting to make extra marks on the side, selling it to other riders, but he didn’t say so for fear of sounding foolish. He’d see in time.

He nodded in agreement about staying trim as well. Not that a dragon couldn’t bear the extra weight, but he doubted any beast would let his rider’s gut go without mention. “I’m sure you’ll want to return to the northern climate. Speaking of which, do you know if those healers found out what they were after?”

"Thanks! So far, it is really nice here. And it was very scary because we had to practice every day since we heard about.. Well, you know. And we had only just started flying! Thank you Optheli, N'ymi for having us." Ralae paused and looked over as her dragon bugled to the little ones. She laughed. "Zabreth has been bugging me to get some of the red flowers. I already got the sands. I also needs stone. My dragon is crazy, always making piles of stuff and trying to be artistic." The young girl shook her head and laughed. "But she is mine. I bet you guys understand that already, don't you?"

Zabreth looked down on hers and the others. They were supposed to be sad but she couldn't remember why and if Her Girl wasn't sad than she wouldn't worry about it. She had lovely things to make dragon shapes with when she got home! Nice to see you Dynith and Daroth. Your riders seem nice. Ralae is very nice. I like her a lot.
~~~~~~~~~
N'ymi held back as both girls spoke rapidly with each other and around her. She managed to catch everything they said but she hoped that they would slow down a little. Finally, she managed to get a word in. "Yeah. Didja 'ave ta deal wi' tha' Healer too? Nasty sort ain't he? An' when we're old'r I bet Abigail wunt min' us visitin'."
She looked and smiled as Daroth dropped the roll in front of the tiny green. How cute he was to look after his clutch sister.
Daorth hadn't really thought about what it was. All he knew was that the girl had given it to him so it must be good. Sitting there, he watched her bugle and looked up to see the big green. I think. It is food? I don't know. The other girl gave it to me so it must be okay.
