Feeling that wave of silence come over her always made him uneasy. The number of thoughts that could be going through her head, any being the result of a ticking time bomb. It was the thought of an argument that always made him uneasy, and even now he just rolled over onto his stomach on crossed his arms in front of him, resting his strong jaw on his forearms, staring straight ahead at the door.
It wasn't until she spoke that he picked his head up and rested it on his bicep closest to her, in order to actually see her. She mentioned food and he felt like he was ready to gag again at the thought. "You go ahead..I don't think I could stomach it" he replied. Then she mentioned sleep. Oh how he was so far from sleep at this point. The buzz raged through his body, and even if he were to consider sleep, it wouldn't be in the under suit and certainly without a shower

Turning her gaze back to the ceiling as she pondered (much to his dismay it seemed) she couldn't help but linger her thoughts away from the important task at hand of finding something to do. Eyes closing half lidded, her mind lingered to earlier.....those two moments which seemed to throw everything out of perspective.
No longer had he become the one she was better off forgetting, the one she'd tried to move on from.....it was just astonishing how quickly he had wormed back into that original place and further. Dammit Dutch... Again, she was self guessing herself, her actions, even her words. Nariko was sure to remind herself to curse her father for his jinxing words, although from his experience and credit he probably saw it coming.
Folding her arm behind her head for an uplifted support, she wondered....if it was really worth prying into. More or less she figured that it might just be pandora's box she was opening and would backfire in her face. There was just something about that kiss in the meadow though that she couldn't place....a spark of something that continued to linger in her heart. Nariko was positive she could otherwise convince herself it was just hormones, a longing of his dead wife....or other such notions of not getting any....but if there was even a glimmer of hope otherwise; she was going to try it.
"Dutch...I....." Nariko started, but felt her own nervousness try and get the best of the situation which she wasn't going to allow. "What am I....to you? I would appreciate a straight answer, too." Lords knew she wouldn't handle beating around the bush any more than it seemed they'd been doing today.

The silence seemed to prevail far to long in his mind. He would occasionally glance over with his eyes to see if she had even moved, usually finding she hadn't. It bothered him that she was so insisting on finding them something to do...what was wrong with just laying there?
However, he couldn't possibly be prepared for the next and seemingly only question that arose. He looked over to her seeing if she was serious, and soon finding by her second statement that she was, he just looked up at the ceiling and stared at it. Dumbfounded beyond his reckoning.
"Umm............" it was the only thing he could utter. He wasn't at all sure and even if he thought about it, he was sure to never find a good answer. "weelllllllll............" he uttered again stupidly. It made him sound like he had a thought, but was embarrassed to say it. Only part of that was true...but he had no thoughts what so ever.
"I....don't know"

Catching one of his astounded glances her way, she wondered what the big deal was....wasn't it either a yes or no kind of statement? Once more she began to over think, over analyze the situation till it became an unpleasant one; feeling that gut feeling she had back at the cliff side weeks ago. No....she didn't want to do this again; it just had to be one of those prior reasons for his actions. It just had to.
Shifting till she was standing once more, she took a silent deep breath; Calm yourself, Nariko. Her mind had in fact drawn the conclusion to just how he unintentionally made it sound. Of course, he must not have wanted to speak for fears she'd kick him out at rejection. Unaware that there really was little running through his mind, she stepped around his bed and paused a moment at the door.
"Well, then....feel free to use the shower; I'm going to go make something." Perhaps slicing ingredients for food would calm this turmoil and give her something to focus on other than the only other inhabitant in the house; and then began down the hall to the kitchen.

completely mystified by her reaction to his unsureness, he felt a scowl form over his brow. "WAITT!! I didn't even.." too late...she had left the room. What the f**k was her problem now he thought to himself, left sitting on the bed with a confused but angry look.
He cursed silently to himself as he stood, with some difficulty and decided a shower was not a bad idea. If anything it would have made her sudden assumption of matters less aggravating.

Either luckily, or unfortunately, the house wasn't soundproof in addition to the open door allowing his voice to carry down the hallway before she got far at all. Pausing in her step she felt that sickening gut feeling increase in the pit of her stomach once more as she glanced from the bedroom door to the kitchen door infront of her. He didn't seem very happy about her making a quick escape by the tone of his voice.
The kitchen was so horribly, horribly tempting to just brush it off....but then why did she feel so guilty about even thinking it?
"I'm so going to regret this..." She spoke under her breath and turned around, walking back to the bedroom as she noted he was standing as she stopped infront of the door.
"Didn't even....what?" She recalled the last thing she heard, her voice rather polite for the way she could have said it with the hurt reliving in her emotions from prior. "Its okay if you don't know, Dutch....I guess I was just hoping for something a little more...conclusive in either direction." Rubbing her head lightly, she wasn't sure what more she could say on the matter before she was getting into personal feelings; a fact of which she really wasn't going to indulge for no good reason.

After he stood he walked over to the bathroom across the hall, surprised to find Nariko had turned and come back to hear what he had to say....maybe things were looking up after all.
"Well that's the thing Nariko...I don't know..And I don't know if I will." he remarked with a serious look on his face. He secretly wished he could think this all over in the shower, but somehow he had a feeling that wasn't the answer she was looking for, or she would turn on her heels without much of a word.
"Look...I don't even know where we would stand even if that kiss didn't happen or we didn't save each other's asses on that beach...why do you think I've been wandering for so long? I just have no answers" Probably the longest thing he had ever said in his life, he still felt saying it would either clear his conscious or at least give her an understanding...if he was lucky...he'd hit 2 birds with one stone

It was hard to keep her expression unchanging, not to crack and let things which should remain inside out as much as they fought to be heard. A small part knew what was coming, the same side which often jumped to conclusions far too quickly; yet it was a quick mind which got her this far and she wasn't about to start ignoring it now.
"I wasn't under the impression you were wandering to find answers.....I was expecting never to see you again until the beach." Nariko answered plainly, but truthfully. Her conclusion of rejection had weighed heavily on her heart until once again she found herself with Dutch thrust back into her life just like it was the first; and the many other times she was damn sure she never wanted to see him again. Yet that was then, and now....she wanted more than anything to get out of this area of grey; yet it was looking like that was all he was capable of.
"Look....I don't want to ruin this truce by any kind of rudeness; so don't take this as such. I'm not sure what kind of customs you have in your...time, or dimension or wherever you came from and the women there.....yet here, when you show that kind of affections....it gives...false senses of things..." Closing her eyes a moment she fought with herself to continue, no matter how embarrassing the truth was for her. "Because some of us aren't strong enough just to write off things like that; as much as I appreciate the notion behind it..."

He leaned against the doorway of the bathroom and let his leg take a rest from supporting his weight while Nariko gave her response. "Nor was I...but had I come up with an answer..then I might have sought you out" he replied. It was the truth. If he did in fact had feelings for this woman, he was likely to have turned the entire island upside down to find her. Now he wasn't probably ever going to say that to her face, but it was how he worked.
"I know...but that's how relationships work Nariko...regardless of what century" he responded with a seriousness in his tone. If he could just take that shower and maybe have more time to think, then things would be made clear...maybe

Might? Oh how reassuring. Nariko knew she was better off staying at the Spartan compound, yet she supposed if she was to leave with something it was the knowledge behind it. Besides, her mother was always strict with the philosophy that nothing is completely worthless since one can gain knowledge from any situation good or bad. Nodding her head slowly since her words began to fail her for the moment, losing herself in her thoughts.
"No wonder I hate relationships..." She muttered before she could really think of what she was saying, before putting on a semi convincing smile. The vixen could tell that he was wanting to bathe since he wasn't leaving the bathroom doorway; and she knew she didn't want to keep him any longer than she had. "I'm going to...go eat. Everything you'll need is under the sink." Motioning with her thumb behind her to the kitchen that she was heading that way, with a turn of her body she headed down the hall and vanished behind the wall.
Once in the kitchen she wasn't sure what she wanted, heading to the fridge to stand in the doorway and hum for a few moments while deciding what she wanted. Anything to keep her mind off her thoughts till bedtime at least.

He sighed as he silence again overtook the conversation. Her thinking is quite dangerous..I wish I knew what she was wondering about he thought as a frown formed on his face while he words suddenly popped up. He wasn't quite expecting that reaction, and further still the smile that followed.
As she turned and informed him that she was off to eat, and telling him where everything was. he leaned out a bit to see her disappear into the kitchen, trying to hid thoughts of the cute butt. He shook them away and quickly slipped into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him and carefully starting to peel off the uncomfortable under suit.
The moment he turned on the shower and stepped in, after adjusting the temperature to the water. He sighed again and began washing his fur and hair to the best of his ability.

Entering the kitchen was a godsend, finding some stability as she leaned against the counter with a long, drawn out sigh. With her eyes lingering out the window at the world slowly slipping into later afternoon, her ears folded back against her skull as her mind continued to wander into dangerous territory. It was a rather picturesque scene, it wouldn't surprise her if there would be many couples out on such a nice eve. Tilting her head ever so lightly, she wondered what it would be like to go on one of those walks...hold hands and talk about....
What did one talk about like that? Nariko made a sour face as she realized how awkward that would be, especially with a certain thick headed ODST currently in the shower....naked.....sudsy....
"Oh god!" Nariko flushed in horror, quickly sitting up and shoving her head into the fridge to occupy herself with the idea and notion of food. "Yes! Food....pasta....something...!" Anything but that prior steamy imagery.
Finally she settled on a salad, pulling out the ingredients needed to make it just the way she liked it and set to work. Still feeling the heat slowly dispersing from her cheeks as she forced her mind to think of tactics and reflection of their run in with the monster from the beach.

The dirt, grim, and sweat that had caked over his pale fur was soon being washed away, and already he felt a small pang of relief, but that may have been from the fact he wasn't in that tight suit for the time. While his hands scrubbed dangerous grounds, he wondered if he would have to go back into said under suit when he was finished with his shower. Were he on a ship, he wouldn't at all give it a second thought and happily parade around naked in the locker room until he dawned some camo pants and a relaxing white tank top...however this wasn't the ship, and he didn't have any of those items. He only had that suit.
He was about to let out a sigh as he heard a very loud exclamation in the kitchen. Having no clue as to what that comment was directed towards, he stumbled out of the shower and grabbed a towel, soon wrapping it around his waist. Despite his leg injury, he still ripped open the bathroom door, and tore down the hallway, sliding into the kitchen while clutching at the ends of the towel. "What!" he exclaimed in concern and seriousness...he was half expecting an Elite to have jumped through the window, but all he saw was Nariko

Spacing out was working well for the vixen, her paws gliding along with her chopping as she almost didn't need to pay attention....almost. Looking down every once and a while as she deposited her sliced ingredients into the large bowl (because hey, she was a larger vixen no denying) she moved on effortlessly to the next.
However, a brow raised a few moments after that space adventure which seemed like a long stretch in time but in reality was just a minute after she made that yell that the door cracked open down the hall. Was something coming? Heavy footsteps racing down the hallway had her heart pounding as she held the knife at ready......well, that was until none other than a sopping wet and pretty much naked Dutch skidded into the kitchen.
It took a moment or two of a silent and dumbfounded stare at the male to realize that 1) There wasn't any attacker, 2) He must have been thinking the same thing from the mirrored expression on his face, and 3)........he was just wearing a towel.
And not a very big one at that.
"W.....Whu....." The vixen stammered, as the blood and heat rose to her head as her eyes went as wide as saucers. My god he's ripped.... She thought before the horror of before sunk in and she let out a yelp and ducked behind the island from view. "DUTCH, WHAT THE HELL!" She yelled, covering her nose as she could have sworn she was getting a nosebleed. "PUT SOME CLOTHES ON BEFORE PARADING AROUND!"

He about flung himself to the floor as he saw she had a knife in tow, but soon she realized what he was wearing and dived behind the counter....then it occured to him to what he was wearing as well, and his face turned scarlet red and his tail instinctively slinked to his front side.
"What where you 'Oh my god'ing about?!" he said as he picked himself up hiding his lower half behind the counter and reaching for the towel that had fallen off from his dive. What a mess he was in now
