Cat ate in silence for a few minutes, just enjoying the taste of the food and the feeling of safety. Something was nagging at her, though, and now that food was no longer her first priority, it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. "So..." she began carefully, "What happened in the Exhibit..." She didn't take it any further than that, and she kept her eyes on her plate, both things stemming from a conscious effort to give him time to gather his thoughts on the subject. It seemed like it would be fairly obvious what she was talking about.

Reaper paused in the middle of taking one last drink from his glass when she spoke. He swallowed slowly and carefully sat his glass down with visible discomfort, his heart speeding up in his chest once again. Oh...here we go. He had a feeling he knew just what part she was wanting to talk about. But...he wasn't sure how he was going to be able to explain it. That he just blacked out...he always snapped when he lost control. He didn't even know why he had gone after her. "...yeah." he said quietly, nervously.

She finally looked at him, her green eyes intent and her expression serious. "I didn't know that could happen," she told him frankly, "Which makes sense, since Xion implied that you'd made a concerted effort to keep me in the dark about it. That's kind of a problem, seeing as he can apparently sick you on me anytime he wants." She set her fork down, balancing it on the edge of her plate. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Reaper shifted in his seat and avoided her gaze for a moment. "Because..." he started quietly. "...of what I was doing the last time I was...in that kind of state." He turned his eyes back to hers, and his fingers nervously flipped his fork around in his hand. "Before, I'd managed to get angry enough that I just...lost it. I blacked out. When I do that, I attack anything. I know I was attacking heroes...some of them I'm sure you're friends with...but I couldn't help myself. You didn't seem to know that it was me before. So...I tried to keep it that way. I didn't want you to...I mean...if you knew, I didn't think you would..." he said, then got rather quiet and looked away from her again. How did he explain this? That he thought that she'd finally look at him the way almost everyone else did? That he was afraid she was just going to...stop talking to him? He was afraid he was going to loose one of the few people even close to being considered a friend because of something he had done.

She regarded him in silence for a moment, her eyes unreadable. He was talking about... that... thing. In the alley, with Logan and the two versions of her Spider. She'd wondered what it was... and that had been right after Reaper had left with Rapture, who was apparently that scientist from the Exhibit. He must have figured it out and lost it. "...I'm your friend," she said carefully, "If you want to be mine, you need to keep me apprised of situations that could potentially effect my safety." She paused. He hadn't attacked her at all until Xion had pointed him at her like a gun. Was that normal? Whatever. "I need to be able to protect myself if this is going to work. Okay?"

Reaper turned his gaze back up at Felicia. He looked at her silently for a beat, then nodded his head slowly. "Alright." he replied quietly. If she was willing to continue being friends with him, then...he was willing to tell her whatever she wanted to know.

She nodded, then breathed out slowly, trying to decide how to phrase her question. "I..." She shook her head quickly, then started again, less hesitantly. "You weren't paying attention to me at all, so I was just helping out whenever that... guy... knocked you into a wall, or something. Giving you time to get back on your feet." She paused, trying to remember exactly what had happened. "Then... Well... I pissed off the lady in charge--" Here she grinned briefly at the memory. "--And she told Xion to have you focus on me." She met his eyes. "And you did. Completely. ...Does that happen a lot?"

Reaper shifted in his seat. "The guy that's like X? No...no, he...I don't even think X has done anything like that to me before. I remember him...zappping me like X did. Then...I just seen Rapture. Then I blacked out. I don't remember seeing you at all until you spoke. But I did see...." he said, then pause a moment. "...I thought I was chasing someone else."

She blinked. "You did?" She frowned. "Oh. I guess that makes sense. You'd probably be pretty open to suggestion in a state like that." A shudder ran through her body, despite her efforts to suppress it. "I don't think I've ever been that frightened in my life."

Reaper shifted uncomfortably in his seat and looked down at the plate in front of him. Guilt was starting to eat away at his chest. It was clear that it was the other being that had made him come after her. But...it was still him. And he had no problem chasing after her. "I'm sorry..." he said quietly. "I have...very little control of myself when I black out. I don't...I don't want to hurt you."

Cat smiled a very little bit. "I know that you don't. You didn't. When it came down to it, you stopped." She had the sudden, mad urge to lean across the table and touch the side of his face. He just looked so sad, so... vulnerable. And if he was being honest, just the fact that he had stopped was... Heart hammering in her chest, she made a point of busying herself with her side salad instead.

Reaper just sat and stared at his plate in awkward silence. He...he did stop himself, didn't he? Guess that did say something. He hadn't stopped for the heroes when they stopped their attack. And with Felicia...he'd seen Kelsey. He thought he was chasing her. But the voice didn't match up. That was the only reason he stopped. He realized that it was Cat. To think he'd come so close to....

"Thank you, again," she said suddenly, reflexively. Her eyes stayed on her plate. "For getting me out of there so quickly. I'm not sure what they would have..." She wouldn't let herself think about that. "Thank you.

Reaper looked back up at her finally, then gave her a small smile. "You're welcome. I know what they...I didn't want to leave you there very long at all." he replied, then paused a moment. Which...now that he was thinking about it, he'd have to ask for his powers back before they left. What was taking Edel so long anyway? She wasn't doing what he thought she was...was she?

Cat remembered what little Rapture had actually been able to say, and her eyes turned flinty. "I hope your mother takes her time," she said in a low, hard voice. "They deserve it."
