I tried to move with a cool hand... It didn't go as I planned.
I'm full of rookie maneuvers... and gestures meant to be grand.
"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me. Now let's let the day go lazy."Reine noticed Adeline's departure, and whimsically decided to follow her into - well, look at that? - the kitchen.
She watched as the lunch meat was placed in front of her, and she looked at the meat, looked up at Adeline, looked back down at the meat, looked back up at Addy, and gave the girl a blatant "you-can't-be-serious" meow.
At the woman's words, she gave a soft sneeze, her head jerking with the movement.
Stepping over the untouched food, she went over to Adeline and purred loudly, rubbing herself up against the female's legs before drifting out of the kitchen and following the smell of steel towards Chris' room, hearing Adeline leave the kitchen as well.
She was just about to peek into the room through the nearly-closed door when he spoke, and she purred in amusement, slipping into the room.
"Do you really think it wise to invite an evil spirit so willingly into your private spaces?" She asked him in amusement as she hopped onto the bed beside him, padding over to put her forelegs on his lap and push herself upwards, rubbing the top of her head into the bottom of his jaw with a satisfied purr. "Well, isn't this perfect?" Giving the room a once-over with her keen feline eyes, she curled up into his lap, settling her jaw on his leg and tucking her feet beneath her, the purring ever present. "I get a human doll, a Sinner toy, and free food all in one. This is just too good of an opportunity to pass up." She twisted until she was on her back in his lap, and pawed at his jawbone playfully. "C'mon, little Sinner. I'm too cute to just ignore." "My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter. A more beautiful disaster..."

"Adeline already invited you into her home when she took you inside. This is just one part of it. Don't try and make me think I could've barred you from here." Not my house.
He sat up, making Reine either fall or jump off. "Too cute," he repeated. "Maybe. Better hope there aren't any male cats around here, you might get into some kitten troubles." He decided to abandon this topic.
"Why are you here anyway? You're supposed to be seducing some other mortal, aren't you? And Addy's not your type, so don't even think about it." He stood up and walked out onto the porch with a lighter and a cigarette in hand. Neither he nor Addy liked the smoke inside, though she was more strict about it since she didn't smoke.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me. Now let's let the day go lazy."Reine hissed as she tumbled off him, twisting to land on her feet as she snapped at him in irritation, sharp teeth gleaming.
Snorting lightly, she began to clean herself, licking the back of her paw and rubbing behind her ears.
"Only on weekends," she quipped in amusement, her tail curling. Then she paused in her ministrations and jumped off the bed, landing lightly on the carpet. "Well, think of it like this..." She padded onto the porch after him, jumping onto the wide brim of a stone lawn gnome's hat and settling there. "In a way, I'm actually protecting that little friend of yours." She snickered lightly. "She's clean, isn't she? A normal, 'innocent' little human. Optimistic, cute, cuddly. Like a fresh new doll." She gazed up at Chris smugly. "She's exactly the type of human that Corrupters look for. In fact, she's prime rib in the shop of fresh human flesh. Do you know how many Corrupters would fight to the death for the chance to stain her black?" She nonchalantly began to lick her paw. "But no Corrupter will come close once they sense a powerful demon such as I. As long as my scent's on your petty human playtoy, no demon is going to touch her." She purred in satisfaction. "So in being here, I'm protecting her in ways that you can't. You're welcome." "My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter. A more beautiful disaster..."

"Trading one demon for another. Still not going to let me sleep easy at night." The air outside was cool and the sky was clear, just beginning to lose that orange morning glow.
Lianne perched on the roof of a nearby PetsMart with one of her partners. Control had asked the two of them to supervise the ongoing contest, though she didn't think there would be too much trouble from any demon except one, a special case named Lucifa.
Right now, however, they were sitting on the store's sunroofed ceiling. Lianne was leaning nonchalantly against a decorated lightning rod, and the two were casually watching a small Corrupter, about the size of a chimpanzee, sit on his host's shoulder and whisper things into the human's ear.
She brushed her light brown hair out of the wind and tucked her wings in behind her. "We'll stay here for a while," she told her partner.
Inside, the phone rang. Adeline picked up on the third ring, listened for a moment, saying only a few words in reply to the speaker. She hung up the phone and called up to Chris on the balcony from her backyard. "Appointment's canceled, he says he can't make it."
"I'm sorry Addy," Chris called down, not yelling but not at speaking level either. "I know you were looking forward to seeing him after a few months."
"It's alright," she said, but in her voice lingered the obvious disappointment. Her expression brightened up for a moment. "How about we run by PetsMart? We can grab... Uh... We don't have a name for her yet, do we? Anyway, we can grab the cat some stuff to eat and play with."
"Alright." But he wasn't about to let the name thing go so easily. "We'll come up with a name in the car," he said, grinning diabolically. He put out his cigarette and trashed it in the wastebasket on the porch, then went inside to shrug on a shirt.
Adeline grabbed her keys from the counter and slipped into shoes, then met Chris on the way to the garage. "Where's the kitty?" she asked. "We might as well bring her so she can pick out what she wants."
"You're crazy. It's a cat."
Adeline smiled. She knew it was just a cat, but still, who said animals didn't have preferences?

I tried to move with a cool hand... It didn't go as I planned.
I'm full of rookie maneuvers... and gestures meant to be grand.
"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me. Now let's let the day go lazy."Reine rolled her eyes.
"You should," she replied, flicking an ear as she gave him a sharp look. "I'm not the type to stab others in the back."
Then the conversation with Adeline unfolded, and Reine's ears flicked back in forth in interest as she watched Chris leave the room. After a moment, she followed.
Oh, a name. Hmm. Reine wondered what Chris would come up with. Probably something stupid that was meant to annoy her.
Even if it did, Reine wouldn't let on that she didn't like it. In fact, out of stubbornness, she would probably claim to love it.
Please, please let the female have a good imagination.
Trailing into the garage after them, she sat in front of Adeline and meowed pointedly, raising a foreleg to paw at Adeline's leg for attention.
----
Asmodeus didn't answer Lianne, his attention not even on the Corrupter, but instead on the city they watched over. His arms were crossed, his wings wrapped around him as they gleamed with a curious moistness beneath the morning sun.
His mind was with his other partners, the ones he actually cared about. He didn't see why Control thought it necessary to add a fourth to the already-perfect team, and a female at that. Sure, she was a pretty good fighter, but Icarus could pound her into the ground. When he got off his lazy a** and actually tried.
He was never interested in what his partners did, really. As long as they did exactly what they were told at all times, and were there when they found Crows, Icarus didn't really give a ********.
And thus, neither did Asmodeus. He wondered if Lianne realized she was talking to herself. "My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter. A more beautiful disaster..."

Adeline smiled and scooped her up, then sat in the driver's seat with Reine on her lap. "Here, you take her for a minute. I don't want her running under the brakes or anything."
Chris looked at Reine for a moment, then got out of the car. He returned a moment later with his leather coat, which he laid out on his lap before taking Reine. He grinned in reply to Addy's rolling eyes.
"You never know. She could be afraid of cars." Or she could use those kitty-claws with a vengeance. Had to be prepared for things like this.
"I wonder if she likes seafood better? She doesn't like turkey, apparently." Adeline had taken the uneaten turkey meat and tossed it outside for some other woodland creature. He didn't answer though, so she changed tactics.
"Think of any good names for her? Be nice."
"Uh..." Chris thought, his gaze on the world past the glass of his window. He exhaled. "Acantha?" It meant thorn.
Adeline wrinkled her nose. "She's a cat, not a Greek. Pick something serious! Like... Razi?"
Chris raised his eyebrows. "Razi? Be serious!"
Adeline thought again. "How about Djinn? She seems the fiery type." She said it in play, but she didn't know just how close to the mark that hit.
"I say Mince."
"Why not Djinn?" The discussion went on for a full five minutes before Addy glanced down from her driving to look at Reine. "Which one? Mince or Djinn?" She parked in a spot close to the nearly empty PetsMart and pulled the keys out of the ignition.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me. Now let's let the day go lazy."Reine would've scowled if she could. Djinn? Seriously? She wasn't a genie, or a demon quite fond of bending the laws of physics. Was the girl retarded? Besides, it sounded like a boy's name.
She shook her head- as if fighting off an itch or a sneeze. She had liked Razi and Acantha better- she had always been a fan of the Greek culture.
Wow, Adeline was stupider than Chris when it came to names. How surprising. Then again, go figure.
Then her fur stood on end as the energy of the car died, and she had to fight down a hiss, her claws digging into the jacket Chris had so wisely brought.
She recognized those two forms on the roof. Well, at least one of them. Who was the girl?
Leaping off Chris' lap, she ducked into the footwell of the backseat, curling up in a corner and making sure her energy was masked. The cat-form helped create a barrier - if she had been in a demonic form it would've made it easier to spot her - because of the earthly DNA she had to involk to change into the feline. She wasn't completely Lucifa the demon, she was also Reine the stray cat, the two mixing together and the energies pooling, diluting each other.
Growling softly beneath her breath, she pressed low to the floor, the fur on her spine rising. Not them. Not here. Not now. "My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter. A more beautiful disaster..."

Adeline watched the cat. "I don't think she liked either of them..."
Chris watched the skies though. Let Addy believe she was a cat for now, perhaps Chris would still have time to get Reine out of her life. He opened the door and shrugged on his jacket, the tugged on Reine and put her into his inside jacket pocket. He ignored any protests by Reine and closed the car door with the window slightly down.
"Hey Addy, I just remembered. I forgot my wallet at home, could you go get it? I'll get Reine the stuff she needs while you're gone. I promise." The tone of his voice left no room for question, somehow.
"Yeah, sure..." she said, voice trailing off in bewilderment. It was one of those times where Chris had that faraway look, where it was time for him to go. Or, in this case, her. She started the engine and drove out of there, slowly, watching him in her mirrors stand in the parking lot.
Chris stood for only a moment supposedly waving to the out-of-sight car before he walked into the store; a K-Mart across the street. "I thought you were supposed to protect her!" he hissed. "Who are those demons?"
Lianne squinted down at Chris as he walked briskly into the K-Mart. There was a lumpy package in his pocket, but other than that, nothing looked too suspicious. She could feel some kind of energy radiating from him, almost the sensation of feeling static electricity pulling them in his direction. The wind picked up and brought his scent to the two on the roof. There were three or four scents mingled together. One was of human, perhaps the driver. Another of steel. And still one or two others... Lianne closed her eyes and concentrated, then opened them once she found the scent. She trained her eyes on his back as he disappeared into the store. "A Sinner." What was a sinner doing in a little town here?
She grabbed the ledge of the building and catapulted herself over the edge, then ran down the blocked walls of the PetsMart towards the K-Mart, wondering what the Sinner was up to. It was pure curiosity, that may kill a cat.
((Whoa. Totally did NOT mean to make that reference. But it was cool when it happened XD
And... I don't care how many dork-points I just got razz ))

((NO. Just haven't been on. >.>))
Reine let out a soft hiss as she was swept up into Chris' jacket, and held on tightly to the leather.
"Yes, against lower-level demons," she replied, speaking softly. "These are Controllers."
Asmodeus' attention was also caught, and he stepped up to the edge of the roof, looking down with eyes changing color to the darkness of Chris' jacket.
"A Sinner, yes," he breathed, eyes cold and emotionless. "And we know what kind of demons THOSE attract." His lips pursed, and he turned away from Chris. "We must inform Icarus."

((Are you okay...?))
But it was too late already. The somewhat impulsive Lianne was halfway across the parking lot before Asmodeus ever turned to speak to her.
Chris ducked into the K-Mart, cursing his ill-luck. There were two that he could see, but if they were all under some demi-god, a group, there were undoubtedly more. "How strong are they?" he demanded. "And can I cover myself to where they won't sense me?" As a Sinner, he was aware that demons sought him out somehow. They must either smell him or sense some kind of aura that emanated from Sinners especially.
He went down the aisles, heading towards the back of the building where, hopefully, he could escape through a back exit.
A man covered in a white dress shirt, loose tie and dark dress pants walked up to Chris from an aisle. "May I help you?" The name-tag said "Tim Burke" but he didn't look like a Tim to Chris.
"We're good, thanks," Chris answered. The employee looked after him curiously, wondering who the other person was that made Chris a "we."

Asmodeus hissed beneath his breath.
"No! Fool!"
He shook his head.
"Whatever," he breathed, his wings unfurling. "Let the amateur make her own self the first wave. Icarus is top priority."
His wings flapping, he lifted from the earth and sailed upwards before soaring off.
"Very strong," Reine replied. "And I can mask your scent. Just give me a minute." She hissed silently at the employee. "Damn humans interfering! Idiots!"
She shook her head.
"You know, on second thought, hiding you is a bad idea," she told Chris. "The Controllers already know you're here. If you suddenly vanish they're going to KNOW a demon is with you. Right now they're not sure. They don't want a Sinner, they want a demon. Just act normal." She snarled beneath her breath. "If they come around I'll deal with them." ((I saw. Yay! biggrin ))
The employee looked away from the retreating Chris and smiled wryly. Instinct was never wrong, and it wasn't wrong this time.
Chris didn't speak back, feeling the demon draw closer. Instead, he browsed down the aisles, looking for anything to hold his attention. At first, he just read the brand names, getting distracted by the odd, and sometimes, unappealing names. He looked at ineffective candles, wishing he knew how to alter his smell without setting himself on fire. Candles sucked at scents anyway.
Above the aisles were labels describing its merchandise. Chris turned down one with "Hair/Body Products" and looked uninterestedly at various shampoos and deodorants. There were, of course, more women's items than anything else. He was at a loss for what to do, so he tried to lay low for now.
Lianne stalked through the aisles, climbing up on shelves to see the rest of the store better. There weren't many people there in the early noon, but there was someone who held Lianne's interest. She crawled over the shelves, closer to the Sinner. Technically, she was supposed to worry about rogue demons, but she had never seen a Sinner up close and personal before. Let alone talk with one.
She hung down from a light fixture just above Chris, letting her hair fall below her, wings half open. "I've never seen a Sinner before," she hissed, looking down at the man in the leather jacket.
He looked up, hearing something squeak above him. He saw the demon and looked down. He felt moisture bead along his hairline. Play it natural. Get some information in the bargain. "And I've never seen Vanity's demons either. But I have no wish to consult with one of them either."
Lianne laughed despite her annoyance. Arrogant fool. "I'm not of Vanity's numbers," she growled impatiently. "And you would do better than to insult a Controller of my authority."
Chris looked up, feigning surprise. "Controller? I've never heard of you. Are you a form of Corrupter?"
The Controller swung down from the light fixture, landing gracefully on her leather soles. "Ignorant human. Controllers catch rogue demons. We're the strongest creatures you'll ever live to see. Feeling honored yet?"
"Feeling bored, to be honest." He left the aisle and wandered over to where the books were and picked up a magazine. Lianne followed, annoyed.
"Perhaps I should give you something to respect then," she threatened, stepping forward. She froze, eyes widening. She sniffed the air, once. Her eyes narrowed into slits. "You--"
Whatever she was going to say next was lost as she crumpled to the ground, head smashed like a melon underneath a solid-looking gray mallet attached to the end of a wooden pole. The wielder put it in the back of his pants then grabbed Chris's elbow and pulled him towards the back of the store.
"We got twenty seconds," he said, mostly dragging a stunned Chris out the door.
Looking back, Chris watched as Lianne stood back up, moving her hands to the back of her crushed skull and fixing her bone fragments like puzzle pieces she couldn't see. He didn't know what was going on, didn't know who this guy was, everything that had just happened went by in a blur. "And the s**t hits the fan. Wonderful." They needed to get out of there before more Controllers showed up.
Lianne flew after them, enraged. "You have a demon! Who is she?!" She landed in front of them, bringing them to a dead halt.
((Roundabout way of getting there... *talking to self*))

I tried to move with a cool hand... It didn't go as I planned.
I'm full of rookie maneuvers... and gestures meant to be grand.
"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me. Now let's let the day go lazy."Reine was hiding in Chris' jacket, barely daring to breathe as he conversed with the Controller, and she gave him mental props for the incredibly steady voice.
After all, he wasn't what that new Controller wanted. Reine had never heard this Controller's voice before. A female. A stubborn one. Headstrong. Cocksure. Except she was a woman. Why did the male-trio feel the need to introduce a new member? Distracted for a moment, she pondered this as she rested, snug in Chris' inside pocket. From what she had heard, the A-class team of Controllers were as perfect as they could get- aside from the S-class team. Was one of the others sick? Dying? Dead? But she would've heard about it by now. Unless it happened incredibly recently- like the day before. But not even Control would've been able to find a suitable replacement so soon. No, nothing had happened to the other three. They were still there. Alive and well.
Reine knew them very well. She had fought one, Icarus, before Control had picked him up. The other two she had watched only from a distance, after Icarus had been made captain of the A-class team.
They, of course, knew her even better, having read the reports Control was able to give them. They no doubt hated her- loathed her for killing so many of their kin.
Che. Their fault for siding with Control in the first place. They knew the risks when they joined, the buffoons.
Then she was drawn back into the present by the sound of skull cracking into pieces. Blinking, she peeked her head out just as Chris was tugged outside to the empty back lot behind the store.
Her nose didn't lie.
Another Sinner!
She growled beneath her breath and ducked back beneath Chris' jacket as Lianne stopped them short.
Not even two of them stand a chance against a Controller! They're still human after all, Sinner or not!
She shifted just a little bit.
Gotta get this away from them!
No, she didn't care about the two Sinners. Well, she liked Chris as a play toy, and she liked his female friend like she would a doll. A fresh, innocent doll.
Besides, free food. You couldn't beat that, man.
Shifting, she ordered her cat body to shrink down into that of a dwarf kitten, able to hide better beneath the massive leather jacket as her scent became barely noticeable.
Crawling out of the pocket, she used her tiny claws to catch the inner fibers of the jacket, and crawled around to the back of the jacket before releasing her hold, falling down to the ground behind Chris and remaining unseen due to one of his legs.
"That isn't the question you should be asking."
The real question is how long you think you can stay alive!
Then she squeezed between them and dashed cutely over to Lianne, leaping up into the air and changing midair into her massive blue tiger form, jaw open with fangs flashing and claws extended.
"PEEKABOO!"
Roaring, she slammed headlong into Lianne.
