Tracks were never easy to follow, especially in autumn when the leaves fell across the pathways and masked old scents with their own. Yei had noticed that through the years, had become accustomed to it and had simply accepted that it was more appropriate to search for something you'd lost in the summer...

Even so, trudging northwards through the forest, she came to the edge of the forest and calmly drifted into the clearing. Her ears might've have been perked but lost in her own thoughts she was completely unaware of her surroundings and those who may have been within her direct proximity - that included the infamous Blais and the now flying wind that had taken to the air before she had arrived.

Where was everyone as of late?

...Was there something in the water that made them all pregnant and then sent them in to hiding?

Wheeling directly overhead, Crousader fought down the urge to bugle another challenge. The painted stallion looked formidible enough to give him pause, as did the presence of an unfamiliar mare.

Snorting in fustration, he decided to follow them, initially believing that they were traveling together.

Breathing deeply of the rich pine scent, Blais released the breath with a huff, turning to survey the clearing half-heartedly. Subconciously, he knew he was going the wrong way, but his mind refused to back down and turn back to the lowlands. What if I die up in these mountains? The treacherous inner voice of reason whispered. Closing his eyes, the brown and white stallion sighed, "Then I die up here, at least I won't be running from a little snow."

But that's not your goal...

"... No, but finding Flame is, and for all I know, he could be hiding up here."

The inner voice fell silent, and Blais reopened his eyes, finally noticing the other occupant of the clearing. She was fiery, as was Flame, but not even a fanatic like Blais would have ever thought her a stallion, even after the initial passing glance. Eyes narrowing to focus on her, he tilted his head to the side questioningly when she appeared not to be noticing anything around her. "My lady..?

Hm? Her concentration was shattered and with a disgruntled whicker she flicked her gaze towards the stallion questioningly. She had been completely unaware of him and now that he had interrupted her thoughts she was both a little annoyed that he had, and a little disturbed by how easily he had found it to go unnoticed - what if he had been a predator?

"Yes?" Shaking her head to shift the long forelock out of her eyes, she met his gaze and drew herself up to her full height, her thick winter coat protecting her against the rather chilling winds that presented themselves to her on the mountainsides, she truly was used to such things by now. In fact, she suspected that she emanated with so much heat that she probably could have kept others warm around her.

...She was a living, breathing, fire.

That might explain her coat colour at least.

"Can I help you?" She continued, still unaware of the wind above her head...

Under different circumstances, Blais would have just smiled at the mare and excused himself, But the fustration of being unable to find a brightly colored stallion amid the dismal white of winter was beginning to take it's toll on his mind.

"Probably not." He heard himself reply tartly, for which he winced and hastened to apologize.

"Err, my apologies."

The constant hovering was beginning to tell on his faltering strength, as were the occasional gusts that were slowly driving him closer and closer to the pair below.

For a while, he battled the wind steadily, his wings beating rythmically against the strong currents. At least, until the wracking cough shattered his body with spasms of pain. Faltering mid air, he fought desperately to regain the lost altitude, backwinging but a a scant 20 feet above the snow dusted meadow.

"I've had worse, I assure you." Yei offered a faint smile as the stalion begrudingly apologise and could only assume that once again, she had stumbled across a stallion who suffered from anti-social tendencies. She must have been a magnet for them, but having encountered so many she had developed quite a thick skin to their viper-like tongues.

"Apology accepted." She added, almost as an after thought. Infact, she was close to falling silent once more, so close to allowing her mind to wander again until it was interrupted by the sound above her head. Her ears swivelled and with a quirked brow she flicked her steel-grey eyes upwards to observe the individual that the sound belonged to.

...What she found was not what she was expecting.

"A wind...?" She grimaced, her eyes focusing on the figure who seemed to be struggling against what she deemed to be a reasonably light wind. A foal struggling she could understand, but a stallion was something she could not.

"A friend of yours?" She enquired, her question directed to Blais although her eyes remained fixed on the somewhat battered and wearied form above her head - if he landed on her, she was going to bite...

Perhaps the blessing of the situation was that Crousader fell unconscious the moment his wings crumpled and he plummeted the last remaining feet to the snowy field. Perhaps... it was also a blessing that fresh snow greeted his fall, and not the unforgiving wintery ground.

Blais had started to respond to her, apologizing again, but the rest of her statement (not to mention sudden arrival of a white and red figure) startled him, but did not freeze him.

"He's no friend of mine!" He said loudly, starting forward when he realized that the fall had not been an intentional one. In the calmness of his mind, he realized that the red he thought had been a color pattern was actually blood, fresh mingling with old all down the stallion's white coat.

The silence was deafening, she wasn't a great fan of oxymorons but as silence fell across her immediate vicinity she felt an overwhelming pressure as though the air around her had compressed upon her shoulders. All the hatred and distaste towards those of the wind crept through her and for a while, she simply stared at the comatose figure, the tingling sensation in her back ever present.

Be careful what you wish for...

The feelings stayed for very little time and as the smell of blood reached her nostrils she gave a slight sniff and shook her head. Yes, winds had caused her a great deal of pain, had rejected her and made her feel worthless but she had never been one to turn her back on anyone when they needed it, that was dishonourable.

Uncertainly, the mare crept forward, her hooves dragging ever so slightly against the powdered snow until she was last at his side. Already his coat was matted and it occured to her that he had been injured for quite sometime, the wounds had simply never closed, as though he'd never given them a chance.

"He needs help, warmth." Her voice was steady, her tone matter-of-fact as she flicked her gaze towards Blais and briefly examined his coat. Granted, it was not as thick as hers was but maybe it would do, if he lay beside him then it would extend some of the heat...Share some of the warmth while she got help - even if they weren't in the most practical of locations to get help.

"Lie beside him." She ordered, "Please..." She added, fully aware that asking a male to lie beside another was uncomfortable but she wasn't ready to touch an adult wind yet, not unless it was really, desperately required.

Blais had himself been in need once or twice, and was not the type to turn his back on another. Not to mention fate had a way of returning the favor, and he was in need of many favors from the hands of the gods.

So without pause, he followed the red mare's directions. She was far wiser then he, and he hoped she had a plan. The white figure was barely breathing, and what little breath he did draw was ragged and weak, as if his lungs were closing.

Belatedly, he realized that one of the stallion's massive white wings was spread out at an unnatural angle, broken perhaps. Gently, he nosed the appendage into a more appropriate position before settling down next to the prone form.

While not completely conscious, Crousader had awakened enough to feel the full effect of his injuries, and the strange warmth pressing against his side. Weakly, he tried to move his one good wing to cover that other side of his body.

Well...as arrogant an air as he may have had, this stallion appeared to have some form of intelligence. For that reason, he gained her respect and with a small nod she offered a smile of approval and turned her attention to the situation at hand - a situation which required her to push aside her dislike of the individual in need.

Releasing a sigh, she eventually turned her back to the pair and closed her eyes, choosing instead to listen to the delicate whispers of the wind against the tips of her ears. Any indication, any sign...She didn't ask for much, she never had from the spirits but they had their way of showing her the right path when she required it, especially when it was for such selfless reasons.

Guide me?

Allowing the mountain breezes to caress her she lifted her head in an attempt to catch any scent. She was not going to admit it at present, but she had lost her sense of direction a while back and attempting to find a recognisable location when most were hidden below the snow caused difficulty, she could only rely on her nose and instincts during the darker seasons.

And so she waited, and waited for what seemed like an hour until at last the winds shifted very slightly and she caught a taste of the familiar pine trees in the forests that lurked on the lower regions of the slopes, where -

"Tai." Her eyes snapped open as she turned her head in the direction that the scent had come from and carefully (yet swiftly) picked her way across the snowy slopes. They lived along the trails, her brother, Gully and his grumpy adoptive father...if anything, if she could locate them then perhaps they could help as Achak was simply too far away.

"Tai!" She cried as she broke in to a canter, stumbling every now and again as her hooves became lodged within the powdered and sometimes unsettled snow, "Tai!" She whinnied again, hoping that perhaps the winds might carry her voice to the edge of the forest trails at least...

"Tai, my love, have you any idea why we are going this far up the slope?"

The voice was muffled by many layers of furs and a hood, but the burnished gold stallion heard his adoptive mother none-the-less. And though he knew she would not uderstand him. He replied. "Not at all."

Beneath the slim native woman, Flame snorted at Tai. Long ago he had stopped actually responding to humans. Despite this particular humans' affinity with soquili, he found the pursuit hopeless. Tai only frowned at his mentor and snorted in response, much to Celei's amusement.

For as long as she could remember she had wished she could understand the majestic creatures that had allowed her to care for them. She knew they spoke to each other, and through the nuances of body language, felt she could almost understand them. Take now for instance, Tai was obviously miffed at Flame, probably because of the younger stallion's whickered response to her question.

Whatever it was, she bit down the last of her chuckles and settled into silence. Before they had left the teepee, she had given each animal (and there were four of them, including the two familiars Gully and Edelsteine) and good wiff of the evergreen broom they were searching for. Now, as they approached the distant peaks, she wanted them to help her locate the illusive plant.

Tai, however, had stopped, ears pricked forward alertly when he detected a familiar voice on the wind. After a moment, his eyes widened and he whinnied back. "YEI!"

So they were with her! Her eyes widened as she heard the muffled response and with a whicker she stumbled forward once more, literally tearing her hooves away from the powdered snow as she entered the sheltered canopies of the tall, pine forest. Even now, she was overwhelmed by the heat emanating from the trees that had been gifted with the ability to combat the plummeting temperatures in the darkening seasons.

"Tai!" She whickered again, pausing briefly to stomp the snow off her hooves and legs so that she was reasonably presentable before continuing on. She had a rough idea of where he was, the breeze had provided her with a vague idea of which direction to head in and it wasn't long before she skidded rather unceremoniously onto the track ahead of them, slipping and sliding as the snow from her hooves dampened the mud beneath her feet.

"Ack -" Well, it wasn't the most glamourous of entrances but who would care? Not even she seemed remotely bothered as she fought to regain her footing and ended up with her legs splayed out and a somewhat startled and childish expression on her face.

"Come, now." Yei didn't even bother to right herself as she fixed her gaze on Tai, her eyes still somewhat wild and almost feverish in an attempt to at least emphasize how much she needed his help, "No time to 'splain, big problems - you come now...k?" She chirped and before he had time to respond, she was already turning herself round (slowly at that) to face the way she'd come.

Taken aback by his sister's appearence and almost panicked state, Tai took a moment to glance at Flame, but the stallion of fire had already launched into a full gallop after the red mare, Celei's robes whipping over his haunches like a brown flame.

So without another thought, he took off after them, aware of Gully and Edel padding after him.

The warmth at his side shifted, removed itself for a moment, only to return and press something cold but succulent to his muzzle. Somewhere he recognized the offering as a bite of snow covered grass shoots, and he accepted it hazily, wondering how he could have let this mess happen.

Good! They hadn't required any explanation like those of the Clearing would have needed and with a whiney Yei opened up, allowing herself to break into a gallop that was more like 'bouncing' up the slopes. These bounces became even more accented as her hooves impacted with the snow as she tried to keep up her pace and her balance agsint something that reminded her of quick-sand.

"This way!" She chirped, choosing to ignore her mane as it now flopped untidely over her head and neck. If anything, when she returned home later Achak would tend to it but for now... Gritting her teeth she steeled forward and pushed her way through the snow until she caught sight of the painted stallion once more and the fallen wind.

"Over here." A few more bounces and she slowed to a walk, approaching the pair of stallions at a more reasonable pace. Now that the two-legger was here, she had no reason to rush, it seemed her job was done for the time being and so she simply kept her distance...
PostPosted: Sun Nov 12, 2006 8:48 pm

Struggling to keep up with his added burden, Flame gathered himself to "bounce' along like Yei was, discovering the quick-sand like feel of snow beneath his hooves. Irritated, he quickened his pace.

Upon reaching the clearing, he slid to a stop at the edge, and almost reared back when Celei scurried off and ran to the two stallions. Within moments Tai joined him, and after Celei ahd removed one of her robes to cover the white stallion, (and otherwise showed all the signs of a two-legger performing healing feats no soquili but a unicorn could) bith Tai and Flame converged on Yei.

"What happened!"

Blais's eyes had narrowed to mere slits when the other soquili and the two-legger had appeared, and he focused exculsively on the bright chestnut stallion with eyes that reminded him of his own.

Part of him wanted to charge forward and demand the strangers name, but pride and honor would not allow that just yet. He still had the white stallions body propped against his, and a native woman who seemed hellbent on saving the winged stallion.

Hands, they caressed and spread soothing salves into his battered flesh. The warmth remained constant and strong, but he could sense fustration building in the one who offered his body.

Suddenly those same hands went to his head, tilted his chin up to pry his mouth open. Weakly he fought those hands, but they were persistent, and he almost bit them to stay the threat he was sure they represented.

"Stop.. no more chains...no more bindings." He muttered, turning his head away.

She didn't appreciate how they both enquired after the events that had transgressed before their arrival. It wasn't because she had anything against her brother but the manner in which he approached almost made it seem as though it was her fault that the wind soquili was battered and bruised, as though she could be so cruel as to harm a creature regardless of her upbringing!

...She could just have been paranoid though.

"I don't know." She replied honestly, her ears swivelling round briefly as she caught the faint murmurs of the wind soquili, "He just...fell." She finished, shaking her head and furrowing a brow as he spoke of chains. Was he one of those foreign soquili, the ones with metal in their mouths?

Releasing a soft sigh she canted her head to the side and gave another of her soft whickers, almost as though debating on whether or not she should nudge him to reassure he was safe.

But he was a wind! Why should she bother?

"Will he be alright?"
