I found a fantastic airship city design that might spark your imagination( not saying you needed it, I just really wanted to share it) It's by Marcin Jakubowski, and he has a whole slue of steam and diesel designs. Here is the link http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vv5SDGCiuso/SjTsMmDK8eI/AAAAAAAACR8/0-RKr9xeRJE/s1600-h/city_in_the_clouds_l.jpg

Definitely an airship! Can't have any adventures in a floating city now can we? xd I'd rather soar through the skies and feel the wind gently caressing my cheeks as the ship glides smoothly through the clouds... >w<

we could take a hint form China Mieville's "Armada" and put that in the sky. instead of just one big ship or city, but an endliss series of conjoined ships and platforms assembled over the corse of a millenia or two. this would give way to everybody's and anybody's idea as to what an airship should look like- they're all there. one big hub in the sky. all the gunships on the furtherest corners fortifying the walls, the large passanger ships in the center and converted factory ships inbetween.

Definatly city, somehow the image of a really large ship that could support probably thousands doesn't seem logical. I know a land mass can be magically held up etc.
City sounds better though.

I can't say I've ever read whichever of Miéville's works includes such a thing; but I've already supposed such settlements (on a, I assume, much smaller scale ~ i.e. villages) exist in the world of the Anachronism. Not that a giant one wouldn't be awesome.

I took a floating city for the vote, though there should be an airship involved somehow, maybe a large Air flagship that can also be used in RP. granted I've yet to actually check out the RP threads.

I'm on the Floating City side, for the Anachronism itself. There's no reason why it couldn't have a flagship, though, as Gaen suggests.
