And the seasons, they go round and round

"Little Miss?" one of the werewolves in the mansion called to Abby. He looked like a large pale rat with arms that belonged on Mr. Potato Head. His nose reminded Abby of the one on the blue demon from Hercules however.

"What do you want Trenton?" she asked him impatiently. She had not heard anything about the keepers in days and that was a bad thing. "Unless you have some news, please leave me alone."

"But I do have news," he watched her head perk up. "There is going to be a big attack here. Somehow they found out where this place is and are going to go after us. Every Werewolf specialist they have is going to be on this place. If we get ready we should have a pretty good chance."

"Trenton, can you get me my transmitter please?" she asked him. He was back in a few seconds with a device that was in a wooden box. Abby pulled it over her ear and set it up. Suddenly the sound of the fire crackling rushed into her ears. She heard Trenton's heavy breathing. He had run to get the device. "Thanks," she said hearing her voice for a time that she was sure she could count on her fingers. "Let's get started with fortification. I want to be able to have a finger dipped in everything that's going on or being done right now."

Felincia labeled the cages as she responded. "If an injected mouse bit you, would you turn into a mouse, do you mean? Fortunately, no. I only use the segments of werewolf DNA that allow clothing transformation and human speech in animal form. All other segments of DNA have been excluded."
Locking the mice into her cupboard, she unlocked her fifteen locks, pulled out her sixth binder, and wrote quickly about the day's events, ending with: "I think life is about to get very interesting."
"Would you be interested in coming over for dinner?" she asked Eve. "We haven't anything to do until the concoction takes effect on those mice, and Shaishuu's coming, and my parents are going to kill me otherwise because I haven't been home in days." She could see the excitement in Eve's face and wanted to provide some distraction while the experiment was taking place. Besides, it would be interesting to see what both her father and Eve had to say about the planned werewolf raid.

In truth that she learned,
or the times that he cried

[[The wolves know where the Keepers are so they can have someone on the lookout there. The Keepers are supposed to be a large organization so they can easily go in and pretend every once in a while so they can find out stuff]]

Evangeline thought for a moment. "I guess I could come along. Are we going now?" she asked as she pulled off the gloves and reached her pale hands down to her wheels and pushed with her palm. It was a movement that had become second nature with 'forward' just like picking up a foot would be.

Eva smiled at the thought of Felincia's normal personal life. "So your parents are going to be mad because your always here?" she asked. Her own parents had left her after the accident. She hoped Felincia's parent's were better than her's were.

Felincia opened the lab door so Eve could get out. "Yeah, Mom has this weird idea that we should be a normal family. Never mind the fact that I've invented several weapons and a DNA concoction, and that my mom slays vamps and my dad hunts werewolves. Yep, normal family, that's us."
As they were walking through the streets to Felincia's house, a cat screamed a battle cry and ran past them into an alley. A strange thing happened: Felincia's pupils changed to those of a cat, and her ears turned furry. Then she shook her head and things returned to normal. "Sorry," she said, continuing to walk. "I was trying to understand what was wrong with the cat, and I guess by activating the half of my cat-brain, I started activating a transformation." Suddenly she stopped. "If we're going to inject Keepers with animals, we'll have to set up classes to teach them how to use their new skills." She resumed walking. "I'll talk to Dad about it."

Evangeline nearly said, "At least you have a family," but stopped herself at the last second. She could not help but begrudge people sometimes. It was not anyone else's fault about her parents, but that did not make it suck any less.

"I wonder if you can make a partial transformation. Like only take the ears and eyes, but keep the rest of you human," Evangeline thought out loud as Felincia explained what had happened. It would be interesting to see if she could do it as a partial raven. The image of her with a beak entered her mind. That would look odd.

"What if you go back to the wolves and ask if they can partially transform? Because we're using their DNA as a base model, why not try and isolate that gen as well if they have it?" she said. It seemed like a great idea.

Felincia pondered at this for a moment. "Well, technically I did just partially transform just now, so I suppose it's possible. And due to the effects of the concoction I created, it's possible for parts of the brain to work simultaneously when urged to. The only problem is, it takes more energy to keep certain features going and others hidden, so it's just easier to be one or the other. But I'll find a way to ask about it when I'm with the werewolves. If I'm ever with them again. Ah, here we are." They finally arrived in time for a very angry Felincia's mom to open the door.

"Hello Mrs. Cain," Evangeline waved from her wheelchair with a smile. She rolled herself up the front walkway and then stopped short. There were stairs leading up to the front door. "It's been quite a while since I've seen you," she said conversationally while Felincia reached her. "Uh, how is this going to work?" she asked. She began to feel her cheeks row hot and knew they must be bright red. 'Don't know how much you need something until you don't have it to use anymore,' she thought to herself as Mr. Cain came up behind his wife.

Felincia's mom's face softened and she gestured for her dad to help. She threw a quick, meaningful glance at Felincia, who got the distinct impression that she was only delaying the lecture planned out for her by bringing a guest home.
Together, Felincia's parents lifted the wheelchair – with Eve in it – and carried her upstairs. Felincia was reminded at how capable her parents were, and how surprised all the Keepers were when she herself turned out to be such a weakling. To shake off the feelings of disappointment, she reminded herself about the ideas she was having for weapons she wanted to invent after she was done with this genetic experiment.
Dad was very excited to speak with Eve, since they had seen each other a few times over the years as senior Keepers. By the time Mom had served the spaghetti, they were both deep in conversation about the actions of the Keeper heads. Shaishuu, from her seat next to Felincia, looked slightly lost. She had been brought here by a Keeper scout so that Mom could set up her room, and besides saying what color she would rather her beadspread be - "Any, Mrs. Cain ma'am," - she hadn't said a word since she came through the door.
Felincia took a bite of spaghetti, spluttered because it was too hot, took a sip of milk, and addressed the senior Keepers. "Have you heard about this raid they're supposed to be planning on the werewolves?"

[[Summoning Tome. My very first collectible ^_^]]

Evangeline Did not like needing to be carried. Another reason to hate the chair. She did however, enjoy spaghetti quite a bit. She continued to talk about some of the Keeper heads. Some had recently made a bone-headed move with spreading forces too thin and possibly allowing te raid by the werewolves to happen.

"I can't wait to hear what happens. If our latest experiment is ready, we can get work to the base much quicker," Eva replied hoping that by the time it happened she would be able to go and see what was happening for herself.

Shaishuu really had no part in this conversation, she knew, so she just listened as the Cains and Evangeline spoke.
Mr. Cain looked enthusiastic. "It'll be a major triumph for the Keepers if we succeed, but we'll have to be careful. It'll be our hunters against the entire pack, and in their home territory too. Unless we can attack at a time where their forces are split, we'll be outnumbered and inexperienced. Very disadvantaged."
"But you'll have weapons," Mrs. Cain said.
Mr. Cain nodded. "Aye, many of them made by our lovely daughter herself." (Felincia blushed.) "But few of our hunters have used such weapons before, and we're still learning the best methods of usage. They'll help even out the odds, but all it takes is a few actions of stupidity to let the whole thing fail."
"And even with these... modified hunters?" Mrs. Cain asked cooly. Shaishuu realized she was talking about Felincia and herself, and anyone else to be injected with the animal DNA concoctions.
Mr. Cain put his head to one side in thought. "Any who agree to be injected will need training in how to use these new powers before they can be an advantage to us."

"Well, our newest experiment should come into play shortly as well. It will make communications easier and should help with the fight too if we use a different kind than what we are right now," Evangeline was partially thinking out loud. She twirled her fork in the spaghetti and took another bite. She realized as she looked at Felincia's parents they had not heard about this latest experiment."We are using birds right now," she explained.

Mom nodded understandingly. "I see. How'd she talk you into this?"
"Mother!" Felincia cried indignantly.
Meanwhile, she was considering the points Eve had brought up. Flying would increase communications, especially after she had shown the werewolf leader that they carried pagers during the raid. They would be sure to destroy those so the Keepers couldn't use them. But it's hard to destroy a bird you don't see as dangerous. Still, they'd need to set up classes for beasts and birds. She should probably come up with a snazzy code name for those injected Keepers, too. Flighties and Jaws? Nah, that sounded too much like a Hawkman comic book.

Shaishuu spoke up as dessert, mint ice cream, was served. "Hold on, we've been talking about werewolves this entire time. What could the animal-Keepers do about vampires?"
It was a reasonable question. Shaishuu had taken classes in vampire slaying when she was alive - uh, the alive she was before she died and came back - oh, forget it. She had taken vampire slaying lessons. And now, she was a half-panther, and wanted to know how that could be used in her own field.

Evangeline looked over at Shaishuu. It was the first time the girl had spoken all through the meal. "Well, werewolves kill vampires. You'd be similar and have a similar disposition at this point, so you can fight Vampires the same way, with better weapons of course, that a werewolf could," Evangeline answered. Now that she thought about it, if they used wolf DNA, they could make their own werewolves.

Thoughts were racing through Felincia's head. Animals of various forms were sprouting before her eyes. Lions, eagles, dolphins, lizards - she could test them all! Most of them would have to be used on Department 0 first, though, and she hoped to God that none came back to life. Shaishuu, sweet as she was, was unsettling enough.
They finally ran out of things to eat and say, and they were preparing to help Eve down the stairs so she could get home. Suddenly, Dad came running from the upstairs computer lab with a look of concern. "Email from Keepers. They want Felincia to apply as a werewolf spy, and they want to send her on the mansion again tomorrow."
"Spy forms can't get through that fast!" Felincia gasped. "There's years of training before you're approved!"
"I think being a cat sped things up a bit," Mom said cooly.
"But I can't!" Felincia cried. "We were planning on putting the raven concoction into use immediately! Eve and I can't wait a whole day!"
"When the Keepers tell you to do something -"
"Mother," Felincia said dangerously, "I'm fully aware that I have vowed to obey the Keepers. I'm also aware that I was to serve them as best suits my abilities." It was probably a good thing that she didn't realize how much her voice sounded like her mother's.
"Eve, let's go to the lab," she said. "We can test the mice-ravens, and find some excuse to stall this spying thing."
